Hi Everyone
I humbly approach you today with a HTC One issue, that needs solving as I have no phone as a result.
So to put it simply I Unlocked and Rooted my device through this guide .
/watch?v=kJYAS2KN17Y
Following that I proceeded to gain S-OFF, or at least I believe I did. Checked the Bootloader after and it said S-ON :S Through this guide.
/watch?v=NeFwsqU4YL4
All seemed well up to this point, so then I followed to this guide to install 4.4 KitKat on my HTC One (I am based in the UK, and the network my phone runs in is O2).
/watch?v=AySbx90YB-s
However as it turns out, my phone will now turn on, I will reach the default Android Language Selection menu, and my phone reboots automatically before I can even press anything. I have tried to re-install the "bigxie_Reset_M7_3.62.401.1.zip" several times, and nothing has come from it.
So I attempted to restore my stock HTC rom, using the "RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.7_Radio_A4.13.3231.27_10.31.11131.05_release_310878_signed.exe" and it fails every time, and it also detects no image when I run it, it simply shows what image it will install.
Additionally I tried all possible USB ports on my computer to check for a faulty USB port with RUU, I have tried to push "Guru_Reset_M7_3.62.401.1.zip" through CMD (I am running windows of course) and naturally it hasn't worked (the push). Having not made a Backup because I blindly followed the tutorials, I have nothing to go back to.
I think the problem is that S-ON is enabled and I can't seem to find how to solve it, or enable S-OFF using the AIO Toolkit and pushing Revone. Anything that could help me get my phone working, and hopefully with stock Android will be greatly valued. Thank you for taking the time to read this .

I am not so good at android but.......a way to S-OFF HTC One would be using this video - /watch?v=MCMJkVbIiIg
It basically uses rumrunner to do so and for me it worked flawlessly
Hope you can fix your One soon.

Thank you for replying guys!
I actually managed to fix it by pushing TWRP instead of CWR and then installed Android_Revolution_HD-One_31.6.zip got my OS back and now trying to enable S-OFF.

Gratioz!!!!! Good luck for getting S-OFF.
I used rummrunner to get S-off. Works like a charm. Takes a bit of time to do it though, don't close it whilst it's doing it's thing!

Im some what of a newb here but I follow directions well. So I attempted to root my CDMA Hero after the 2.1 upgrade. I followed all the steps but when it says go to the tray bar and you will see superuser permissions I never do! its really aggravating because i have tried over 10 times by now. please help
Are you looking in the Notification Bar on top (you pull this down to open it) or the Application Tray from the bottom (press the button with a triangle inside the circle)? The Superuser Permissions app should be in the Application Tray.

Which upgrade?
If you ran the most recent RUU from the sprint site, it is already patched against root. You have to run the older version.
Go to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
Scroll down to Regaw's second post and click on the link that says, "My Personal One I used for testing"
Run THAT Ruu.......THEN proceed to root via his instructions at the beginning of the post.
Good Luck.
P.S. Your software number must be 2.27.651.5
If it has a .6 at the end, you can't root
it is actually in with the other apps the ^ button
thanks!
Thanks alot! I now own a perfectly rooted HTC Hero!

If you downloaded the Sprint Update OTA after upgrading to 2.1 you will need to run the original 2.1 RUU then root.
switched
I switched the 2.1 software to the one that ends in .5 instead of .6
I had the same issue then realized that it was due to me being on the newer 2.1 and I cannot seem to get the phone to flash to the older one. I keep getting connection errors!!!
I heard a lot of it was due to windows 7 but people posted about the new htc sync that is windows 7 compatible is suppose to work. I have that yet i still get connection errors, and unfortunately i don't have any computer with an older os on it!

Alright, I was able to solve my problem!
If you are getting a connection error just after phone reboots and attempts to go into boot loader try this:
1. Turn off phone
2. Boot into boot load by holding "Volume Down" and "Middle Scroller" and then push and hold down "Power/End Call" - you will be in boatloader when you see three skateboarding "dudes"
3. Push "Volume Up" to enter fastboot (usb) - you will see the top item on the menu say fastboot if you ARE NOT in it already
4. leave phone on and in bootloader and then start the RUU update and all should work!
This is what worked for me with my issue, hopefully it will help someone out - i know i was getting stressed out about it.
And sorry for posting in this thread for my issue.
i have tryd two different ways to do this from the unlockr way to the unrevoked way. no luck yet. i am a newbie but i am technically savvy. i build computers as a hobby and this is killing me.
the unrevoked way i am getting stopped by the fact i have RUU .6 i have tryd to downgrade to .5 with no luck, usb error 170. yes i have proper drivers installed and my device is findable everywhere it needs to be on my pc..device manager recognizes the htc drivers. i am running win7 x64
i really want to flash this phone so it can be usable performance wise...i am forking out a small fortune to buy the evo4 because this phone is so laggy...please sumone help...

i even tryd the older flashrec way last nite and it wont work either...when i click the back up button it says it cant find....and yes i follow everyone of the tutorials to the letter...i just come to a point in all of them where my phone doesnt take the next step...
another way i have tryd
it never gets to this step either...just kinda stalls out and doesnt ever produce this:
$ /data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh
[+] Using newer pope_inode_info layout
Opening: /proc/857/fd/3
SUCCESS: Enjoy the shell.

You can't root this version 2.27.651.6, which you said you have, you must have version 2.27.651.5 to root, so download that build, and reload it first, then you can root easily.

Run RUU let the 171 error appear. LEAVE THE PHONE AT THE HTC SCREEN!
Exit the RUU
Run the RUU again while the phone is still at the HTC screen.
It will run the second time.
Ty. I will try that tonite when I get Home. If it works then that info would be a good sticky for others. Will post back with results. Ty again
Yeah, I also have the same problem when trying to RUU, hopefully if I get to try this tonight it'll work.

out of curiosity would doing this (running the ruu twice) work with the 1.29 or 1.56 ruu?
I have a similar problem with trying to downgrade 2.27.651.6 to 2.27.651.5. I've tried running the RUU (which takes a LONG time to load, by the way) but it sits at the "Verifying information on you Android phone. Please wait" message for 5-10 minutes then says it can't connect to my phone.
I have Sprint's CDMA HTC Hero with Android 2.1. Every guide I've found about downgrading makes absolutely NO mention of how your phone needs to be setup when you connect it to the PC.
I've tried it in "Charge Battery Only," and "HTC Sync" modes.
I've tried it with and without "USB Debugging" enabled.
Same results. Anyone??

i have the same problem. HELP??
I have a sprint htc hero with build 1.56.651.2
I want to root it for the ultimate goal of using it as a wireless wifi access point. I have read alot about the different versions but don't see much about my build. Is it possible to root this version easily and where exactly are these steps? Sorry to be a noob!! I have JB itouches and phones so I should be ok with this. Any help Thanks!
It looks like I am running an "old" version (1.56...) If I root it what will the new build be that I have?
RUU error 171
I am having the same problem trying to downgrade 2.27.651.6 to 2.27.651.5 I ran RUU and got the error 171 then tried runing it again while in the htc screen as sugested and still got the same result I am getting quite frustrated with this. I have also tried to download differnt ruu's from differnt sources they also dont work. Please help
To all of you need some help with getting the ruu to run try this.
1. Make sure you download all the necessary items found here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
2. Check out the step by step rooting video on Youtube found here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAKrIZzXIyA
I used the video rather than try to read all the steps because I felt it was much easier to see everything and takes about 10 mins.
Then make sure that leave your phone on the charging option not "Use as Disk Drive" etc.
I've been rooted for a while but I just rooted my gf's Hero last night and was getting the same errors with her phone that you guys are mentioning so I reinstalled the Htc Sync program and after no luck finally realized I forgot to turn usb debugging on. This is key. MAKE SURE YOU ENABLE USB DEBUGGING. That seemed to solve the error message for me.
im still getting the error 171 saying that my phone is not connected is there some prep work that i need to do besides charge only and usb debugging
i read you cant do it if your running a windows 7 pc

So xda, here's the situation.
I'm on stock 2.1 update 1, build number 2.27.651.6. I know you can't root that, which is why I downloaded the RUU that installs 2.27.651.5 back on my phone. Right now, I have a MacBook Pro running Windows 7 under BootCamp. Whenever I run the RUU, plug my phone in, and start it up, it just hangs on that "Verifying information on your Android phone, please wait..." gray box screen the entire time, I see no progress. I just wiped my phone completely hoping it will show up as a new device now, and I also removed all the device drivers installed. I'm about to try the RUU and plugging in the phone fresh one last time, but I need your take on what the problem is. The phone is showing up fine under devices.
Basically, when running this RUU, I have the phone on charge only, on, screen timeout off, and just sitting there plugged in. Once I get this RUU to run and install the new firmware, I'm golden. I just need someone to identify the problem of why it's not getting past the verifying info on my android phone.
Help would be EXTREMELY appreciated, to the point where I'd be willing to pay something like $5 via PayPal for your time if you solve the issue.
Thanks XDA, I'm fully confident if somebody here wants to do this they could solve it in a matter of minutes, and hopefully someone will be as kind to help me out here.
You might try booting into fastboot and trying to run the RUU.
Fastboot: while holding the volume up button press the power button.
Okay, I did that, it says FASTBOOT USB in a red box, do I just leave it now and run the RUU? Or do I need to select any options?
Can you 'adb devices' on the Win7 machine?
if you can, just let it set there - mine took at least 15 minutes to verify or error.
If it errors don'u unplug or mess with the phone, let it sit there. Then restart the RUU and it should work the second time.
I can in fact abd on here, the process works up to the point where I need superuser and it doesn't appear as it's .6 build. I'm going to try running it in FASTBOOT and see what goes on, I just wish something on the phone changed so I knew it was working.
Trashing the RUU, redownloading, and fastboot all solved the problem. Now, it's currently running the RUU. In a second when the RUU finishes I will post the results and retry the adb process, and let you all know. For now, what's the best official 2.1 ROM? I know Regaw has one, and I'm also wondering how his toolbox works.
Alright here's the deal, it's been stuck in the RUU on "Rebooting Android Phone" for more than 10 minutes now, however the bar is still animated and its still working. It just won't reboot for whatever reason. On the phone is htc with a full green bar underneath.

Worked on my new Hero just fine. You can root it,then unroot it if you need to have any warrenty work done on it.You do have to do all the back ups you normally do if you switch to another rom though.
I'm not running any custom roms yet cause I haven't decided on which one to use,but my Sprint CDMA hero rooted easily with this method. Now if the developers will just come out with a 1 click method of installing one of their customs roms.....One can only wish

Yup, one click root works perfect on .6 builds.... done 2 myself
Thanks "Mac11700" It works
Hi All,
Need help. I installed the ICS ROM upgrade using the RUU from HTC dev on my wife's Incredible S and while the install process seemed to go well, when the phone booted up, the touchscreen and screen buttons were completely unresponsive (not laggy, it is completely frozen).
I have tried a factory reset from the hboot menu. The result is the same; the phone gets to the android home screen and connects to the cell network, but no touch screen or screen buttons working.
To make matters worse, it no longer connects to the PC via USB. The PC sees a device; calls it an "Android 1.0", but I can't interact with it. I have tried to force update the correct drivers, but no luck. HTC sync says there is no device connected; have uninstalled and reinstalled it several times. Have also tried a second computer.
I also tried to reinstall the ICS ROM from an SD card using fastboot with the PG32IMG.zip file. Again the install process seemed to go smoothly, but at the end no touchscreen.
I was going to try the stock gingerbread ROM using the SD card fastboot, but from what I've read, going backwards is not an option.
Both the cell provider (Virgin Canada) and HTC customer support were not able to help. The phone is past warranty and they want us to send it in for repairs.
Device is currently showing:
Locked
vivo pvt ship s-on rl
Hboot-2.03.0000
Radio-3831.19.00.19_M
emmc-boot
I've done a bunch of searching, but haven't been able to find anything quite like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You won't be able to run GB ruu without hboot downgrade, but that will require bootloader unlocking via htcdev site.

Yes, but the problem in doing that is that I cannot get a useful connection to the PC. The bootloader unlocking method on the htcdev site seems to require a PC connection.
Try uninstalling HTC Sync and installing drivers provided on revolutionary installation instructions page.
With no connection to pc you will find it very difficult, if not impossible to rectify. is it a problem with your phone micro USB or your pc USB. I faced the same issue and found it was my micro connection (which also led to charging issues) got it replaced at phone repair shop cost me $80 au. Now everything works great.

You might have more luck with the Canadian variant. Run the ruu utility until it gets to the first screen, the phone doesn't need to be connected at this point. Open start menu on pc and type %temp% in the run/search bar. A temp window should appear. In this window search for rom.zip and copy the file to your desktop.
Rename rom.zip to PG32IMG.zip, place it on the root of your sdcard somehow (another phone or sdcard reader) insert back in phone and start phone into hboot (power + vol down) phone will scan and find the file and prompt install, accept and wait. After installation check your touchscreen and let us know how it went.
if this doesn't fix it, I think you might be looking at a hardware fault.
facing similar issue, just want to ask anyone having issue with ICS/JB, no matter what rom i flash, its still nt smooth
Hi All,
I begin by apologizing for being a novice, however I am posting here as a last resort as I have failed to understand what I am doing wrong so far.
I live in Hong Kong and own a M7_UL Sense HTC One (not GPe) running HBOOT 1.54. After reaching home from the store, I promptly unlocked and installed TWRP on it. I also very successfully flashed Bigxie odexed 4.3 (JWR66V) on it and then OTA-updated it to JWR66Y.H1. Just for kicks I also successfully flashed faux123's awesome kernel (runs a whole day without charging this kernel, I swear). I was a happy chappy, seriously, until 4.4 came along and my gf got a N5 and I needed 4.4.
Obviously first step is to S-Off. I know. Else, it wont work right. I tried, like an idiot I tried the 4.4 OTA - ha ha. I actually got a strange blue screen after reboot - took me a while to realize that it didnt work.
So after moderate to heavy reading, I learned that Revone only works on HBOOT 1.44
I cant find my phone (M7_UL) on the Moonshine downloads page - not sure what Asia WWE stands for
And my only other choice was Rumrunner
This ended in stupendous problems:
1. For the love of God, I cannot find the "Uncheck Fastboot" option anywhere. "Settings > Battery" - yeah I dont have it. Attached a screenshot.
2. Soju goes into ........dot dot dot dot....and says cannot find device - which is funny cos C:\> adb fastboot shows my device very well, thank you. Attached a "fastboot getvar all"
I checked the internet connection, disabled antivirus, disabled windows firewall - even tried on my laptop which has no antivirus on it. I read that sometimes it just works. So I mus have tried almost 20 times now - but no luck.
So I gave up. I just wanna know 2 things:
1. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong - and is there anything else I can try?
2. Is it possible in the future that someone will come out with a pure 4.4 odexed ROM that does not need S-Off? Or thats technically impossible due to HTC's hardware restrictions?
Thank you anyway, for reading this far.
Reinstall sense based rooted rom, and try S-Off again. If you have a nandroid backup of your original firmware, that will even be better. Remember to accept any onscreen messages, i generally set timeout to 10 mins.

Thank you and sheer coincidence that you should suggest this. Today I flashed ARHD with Sense 5.5 and tried again (I dont need timeout, I have disabled lock screen completely). I dont see any onscreen messages at all. No luck at all.
I believe the problem might be the "Uncheck Fastboot" option that is not present on my phone. I have no idea why.
It is available under Settings - Power
