Hi guys. I have gotten the Kindle Fire HD emulator and it works. I just need to know how to change the serial number for the device (that I am emulating). Do you know how you would be able to do this?
Thanks so much!
I still have my serial number from my defective kindle fire.
I would like to use it in a emulator. I miss my tablet

I realize it is perhaps a strange question, but since the Nook Color doesn't work in Landscape mode and the Kindle software does- AND the Nook for Android software I installed on my cell phone also does, I would like to be able to swap the "broken" original Nook Color version and use Nook for Android.
I have tried a few things to make this work to no avail.
I recently appended ".bak" to all the applications with "BN" in the name in /system/app and restarted on the off chance that one of them was preventing it from working but no such luck.
I expect that if/when custom roms are available this issue will go away, but in the meantime has anyone else tried this or found a way to successfully get the nook ereader software to use landscape mode?
I installed it from the android market on my NC but it doesn't start regardless of orientation. No FC, just won't start.
Yep. Same here. Nook for Android won't start on the NC.
...Kindle for Android does. I believe this is called irony.
yeah kind of lame that it won't start. I'm curious as to wether it provides a better experience than the built in stuff. Ya never know.

Kindle for Android does? Hah! Any word on how it runs. Having one device with access to Nook AND Kindle content would be fantastic.
Kindle runs pretty well, really.
I like that it, unlike the stock Nook ereader software, will do landscape mode.
One bad thing that was pointed out to me is that the scroll bar to rapidly change pages is virtually impossible to use.
Hi there!
I have a simple question: How can I rename my kindle(the "My Kindle" in the upper left side of the screen)?
The problem is that my kindle is blacklisted and cannot be registered with a amazon account. That is not a problem for me, because I do not wish to buy any amazon content.
P.S.: I have a rooted KFHD and a fair experience with android&linux
So more than 50 views and no answer...this must be a tough one

i've already looked into build.prop but it was a no go. the link you provided is good but, like I said in the original post, my kindle is blacklisted and cannot be registered to my amazon account. thanks for the tip anyway. got others?
Sorry.. I'm not familiar with the circumstances of a blacklisted device. Short of a factory reset or using the Kindle Fire First Aide to reset the device to the initial setup where you create an account and enter your name, I have no other advice.
Good Luck!
You know, you could always install Omega Statusbar which would change the look thus removing your name. (Visually, at least)
it seems omega statusbar doesn't display my notifications. thanks anyway
Use jelly bean status bar it hides the name
sent from my unrooted kindle fire hd
it's the same as omega status bar
Hello, I dont know if this is the correct forum, but here goes nothing. I have a book that is ONLY available in an Android Kindle. Amazon will not let me download this on any other platform, even Kindle Touch.
So, I basically need to move a book that, I purchased, from my android phone to my PC/Kindle Touch. I have found the kindle "files" in my android folder location but those are not in Kindle format or any ebook format. So wondering how can I extract the ebook files?
thanks.
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for more relevant answers.

I'm not to good with tech I'm getting better as I have started working with Linux computers including raspberry pi.
Is there any way to root the Amazon Kindle 5.4.0.0?. I don't care if it's temp root I just need a way to disable many of Amazon's features. I'm not interested in getting new ROMS or installing another OS.
Any one have ideas?

I've been searching like crazy the last week to try & Root this device. Everything I've seemed to find for 5th Gen version is for earlier OS (5.0.1 - 5.1.1)(I have latest OS 5.4.0.1) . I've read in multiple places that reverting back to the earlier OS have completely bricked there 5th Gen. I don't want a brick. I want a better 5th Gen.
Also I've seen different ways to Root for 8HD & 10HD. I even tried one but it wouldn't allow me to press the recover tab at the bottom. It allowed me to cancel it & that was the most of it. All for nothing. This process which I thought would be for the most part easy has become aggravating & extremely frustrating! I don't want to be like everyone else "PLEASE HELP ME", but I understand now how they've come to that conclusion!

At present there is NO root solution (or bootloader exploit) for this device running FireOS 5.3.2.1 and above. Reread that last sentence. Good, now we're done with that.
You can roll back to FireOS 5.4.0.0 and do some modest debloating if that suites your fancy. The Google Play Store can be easily installed on any current build of FireOS v5 giving access to a broad array of apps that may not be well represented in Amazon's store. You can also install an alternate launcher (eg: Nova) with some caveats which will give a different look to the home page/app drawer plus limited gesture support. Beyond that you have an.Amazon tablet running a highly customized version of Android 5.1. Get use to it.

Thanks for your feedback. I tried adding playstore once. Didn't work. I'll try again. By any chance do you have the links to roll back the O.S.? Alternate launcher? Etc... I have tried searching, but seems almost everything I find is for earlier O.S. or for 8HD, 10HD. Would instructions for those work for this one?
I've searched and can't seem to find anything but maybe I'm just not searching for the right thing or using the wrong search terms.
I'm curious if anyone has been able to modify a Fire TV OS to work on a Pi 2b?
I have a rpi2b just collecting dust. I honestly quite like the FireOS setup and I have Amazon Prime so it would be ideal for me to have the ability to use my Pi to access Amazon/FireTV content.
If no mods have been made, is there any options for accessing Amazon content from, for instance installing Amazon Apps on top of a compatible Android TV build or something?
Idk if anyone else has any interest in this or has tried or if it's even possible. From my Fire Stick it seems that Amazon keeps track of device serial numbers so maybe this isn't even possible, so just thought I'd ask.
