[Q] Advice needed on what my "brick" error is - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All
Like any noob, i've really enjoyed following the tutorials and vids on this site, and reading up on all the awesome advice.
I have spent many days reading, and researching but i need help to determine just exactly what is wrong
my "experience" in flashing is limited, but will try and explain as best as i can
i had Gb,then flashed King Driod (abyss kernel)
then i Flashed Chracks xxlrk DBT v.14 (a very very awesome ROM)
i then decided to flash Parandriod (paranoid_note_v01.zip - to check out the Hybrid feature)
i knew i had to first downgrade back to GB,i tried to flash back to Abyss, but everytime when flashing the Kernel,CWM would just reboot
i would do wipes(dalvik, factory etc) each time (side info)
i would then put it in download mode, flash Chainfire XXoxa_CWM5 via Odin
And my phone would boot normal again
I then tried flashing the abys kernel via CWM (.zip file) and immediately flashed paranoid_note_v01.zip)
now my phone
-does not power on
-no visible signs of life
-button start-up doesnt work
-no detection on pc
(also..my phone was fully charged when i started this process)
So my question is this..i know i messed up somewhere, and went wrong
but exactly is wrong with my phone?
or what could is possibly be, all the solutions i've seen so far (other than jtag, unbrickable mod, riff box) seems like i have "missed" the boat

test:
remove the battery for a few seconds and reinsert

So you are not even able to enter download or recovery mod
Then you can take it to samsung service center, tell them you got an ota, tried to update it and then it got dead. There is no way they could know the actual reason of the brick until you say what happend and i guess they might do it under warranty

claim warranty if you have, else.. try a jig, or JTAG, or an expensive motherboard replacement

Hey, i made a BIG MISTAKE...
I flashed a stock kernel on a custom ROM (with sgs kernel flasher) but forgot to UNCHECK the reboot button.
now my sgs got stuck at boot.
3button combo won't work and kies isn't installed on this PC..
PLEASE HELP WITHIN 1-2 HOURS!
the only thing what works is the 2e recovery (auto boot into when it got stuck at sgs logo twice)
Have you tried pulling out the battery and then putting it back in, and then trying to get into recovery?
pull the battery out and insert then try to go download mode again if it doesn't work you have to use JIG for enter to download mode.

Maybe you should:
1) use a less useless thread subject, a sensible subjects gets you help faster
2) avoid caps and demanding a 1-2 hour solution (unprofessional)
3) respect what's said in the capital letter line in your own signature
4) don't panic! Since recovery mode is still working you should be able to save your phone.
If nothing works, a Jig might help you (see #3 in this posting). If even that doesn't help, you can still send it in for repair after all.
5) general hint: get 3 button combo mode working first before flashing, it's said all over the forums. As a noob, I respected that, got myself a JIG prior and was able to save my phone after a soft brick.

i know, but the problem is it's not actually my phone... it's a friends phone
and he wants it back in 2 hours
i told him now he should go to get it into repair and if it costs something i have to pay...
or should i try hamsterbread? it has a ROM and a Kernel in one update.zip?
so how do i get back to stock 2.1 ROM + stock Kernel then?
I am not very familiar with recovery mode (never had to use it to save my phone so far), but afaik you can still flash that way somehow.
Anyways: take your time to not make additional mistakes, if you can save the phone your friend will surely stay your friend, and try what people suggested or will suggest here (change subject title to gain more help faster).
As said, you can still send it in for repair after all but why not try something first with recovery mode? There's not much to lose now anyway.
Do not panic, take a deep breath, ignore the clock! Your friend would be more pissed if you had to send it in (which can take weeks or months)! I wouldn't see why you want to do that as long as either download or recovery mode is still operational. So go change the subject, remove the 1-2 hour demand sentence and I'm sure you will get help!
Btw a jig is some USB dongle or cable you can plug into the phone to activate download mode. Costs just a few euro. Available on ebay as well as self made: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551
So can you get into download mode?
Preferably, you need a 3 file 2.1 stock firmware you can flash with Odin3 using a 512 pit and re-partition.
I have a 3 file stock 2.1 firmware for Australia if you want it. It will at least get you stable, then you can flash anything you want after that.

Just try this before you panic.
Pull the battery. Hold the power button for 10 seconds. Put the battery back in.
Hold the download mode sequence until it forces itself into download mode. Sometimes it can take a minute. Just keep holding it.

Order a jig from Ebay and try to get it express posted. Will be alot quicker than a repair center. Then you have one in case you get into trouble again.

[Q] Phone, Exclamation Triangle, PC - No Download mode

I'm really sorry, I searched for solutions but didnt found one that fits my problem.
I'm a total newbie and ****ed up my phone in many ways. I started trying to install something it wasnt suposed to work on my phone (rom destinated to 9000 and stuff). I have a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000b (sold to latin amarica) and came from factory with android 2.2.
I'm now stuck with the black screen of death, no matter what I do I get this screen. It hapened after I tryied to install unsucessfully the original rom of the phone and odin presented me with an error.
Before I try any further I'd like your advices as how to procede regarding my 9000b. Pulling the battery out, putting it in again and holding either vol down or both volumes and either pluging the phone on usb or pressing power allways gives me the same result, the screen with phone exclamation triangle and pc.
So, before I buy a jig cable on ebay that will probably take 3 weeks to get here (Brasil) is there anything else I can try?
Please help me, I'm desperate and I dont want to take it to assistence, it would cost me much money and ruin all my courage in trying to use Roms.
Thanks alot and sorry for the bad english.
so did you have the 3 button combination before this happened ??
have you tried to charge the phone whilst powered off, then when the phone gets hot, try download mode then ? sometimes this works, as heat can help download mode work.
another thing that has worked for SOME people, is leaving the battery out for 10mins, doing the 3 button combo, and whilst holding the 3 buttons, insert the battery.
you could try these and see what happens,
And 3 weeks delivery for the JIG is a long time, couldnt you make one in less that 3 weeks.
If you can't get into download mode, you are screwed until you get your hands on a jig, simple as that. Just wait. Patience is a virtue.
Thanks in advance for the quick reply guys, I ordered the jig, estimated 20 days, usualy it takes the same amount from the central postal ofice to my home since they allways restrict packages from hong kong. I'm considering making one but I'm a total denial in eletronics.
I was able to get to download mode before this problem yes. I would just hold down vol and center key and then power. Now even when I plug it in to charge I get the screen with the exclamation.
Any more sugestions?
no other suggestions other than whats listed above
looks like you will have to wait for the JIG to arrive.
Loner-phone here you come lol
Then I have a couple of questions.
1) Since I plut it in directly on the power and still recive the same screen is the phone still charging? Or once the battery is over I'm ****ed up twice?
2) Is there any chance that the jig wont work or I in some way ****ed up my I-9000b permanently?
3) After I make/get a jig how should I procede? I heard about one-click odin, but apears that its for another model of phone, and since I got on all this trouble exactly for trying to do things to my phone that were suposed to be only for another model, I'm kind of lost.
Inputs?
Thank you all for already awnsering my questions.
1) the system is corrupted so the charging indicator will be too - thus leading to Phone ! PC image - this is the only image the phone can now produce
2) The 'JIG' has a 100% success rate - providing that the motherboard is not fried - which it isnt as it still shows an image
3) the jig is just a modified USB, just plug it into the phone whilst powered off and download mode will appear, and then you just attach your genuine USB cable and flash stock ROM thru ODIN.
azzledazzle Thank you very much for your patience, but since I`m a total newbie to all this, some of your awnsers I didnt understood fully, do you care explain me better?
Regarding question 1) The power indicator is corrupted, ok. But this means if my battery die out of usage it wont charge again or just that the indicator wont show that is charging but the battery actualy is charging?
and for question 3) Is ther any tutorial directed to I-9000 on how to use odin to flash a stock ROM ? like baby steps? After all that I'm even afraid to turn the phone on, so I would like to know exactly what to do. I`m cosindering asking someone with technical skills to help me on a home made jig.
oh im sorry, i get carried away sometimes.
1) i assume the battery will be charging yes. only the phone will not be able to show this due to the corruption.
2) when you have made / bought a JIG (link below) you ideally want to flash a Stock ROM, you can get this from samfirmware (link below) and also on this site is a tutorial on how to use ODIN, its fairly easy if you just read the instructions provided.
JIG: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551&page=3
Firmwares : www.samfirmware.com
ODIN download and guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846913
Its a miracle, somehow I managed to get into download mode. But I'm still a bit insecure
Here is the deal, I dowloaded a .tar file that alledgedly from my carrier and for my country. The tar is named JPA_JP3_JPA.
Inside the file there are cache.rfs factoryfs.rfs modem.bin param.lfs zimage
But what should I put where on ODIN if I only have PIT PDA PHONE and CSC?
And how can I discover if I should use pit 512 or 803?
Should I consider a master clear setting?
the file you downloaded is a full firmware compressed into 1 .tar file.
so in odin load the .tar file into PDA section and THATS IT !!
DO NOT USE PIT WITH THIS FILE.
press start and enjoy
PS do a factory reset after the flash

Hello all!
I've got my hands on a GT-I9000 today.
It's got 2.3.3 Android on it.
Wanting to install CM7, I was first of all trying to root it.
I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.8, thus I downloaded heimdall-frontend and the "Hardcore's SpeedMod kernel with ClockworkMod Recovery".
When I put my phone into DL Mode and connect it to my Mac, I can't write the image to it.
Heimdall is failing with "Failed to receive device info response!"
What do you ppl suggest me to do now?
Thanks,
F.

Indeed I now managed to get Windows XP PC.
one trouble still remains: after rooting the device remains in an infinite reboot loop!!!
It only stops when WiFi is disabled.
Any help bout this?
Or at least any means to get back to a factory ROM?
I got 2.3.3 before flashing...
Thanks!
Try to flash the nightly again, should solve the bootloop-issue.
Or you can wipe cache/dalvik cache, this helped me too.

Phone doesn't boot anymore

My phone doesn't boot anymore, and when I try to turn it on nothing happens, I've tried to put it in download mode but that doesn't seem to work for me either. My phone is Samsung Galaxy Ace 2.3.5 and it's running stock firmware. Phone is succesfully rooted for one month, yesterday I put the file for a custom firmware on the sd card, but when I tried to reboot in CWM 5 the screen didn't show up anymore. One thing you should know is that i've been outside (it's freezing) but at the phone shop they said it couldn't be a prob. in the battery.
Is there a possibility for me to turn on the screen again or, with odin, flash the original software to make it work again.
I'm a bit of a noob in flashing and that kind of stuff.

Yes, I did. So this caused the bricking of my phone? So i'll just have to bring it to a samsung service point and hope the warranty is still valid.

have you try to reflash it via odin?
Nothing will work.....
You have to go to service center (if you have warranty)
Give them any excuse (did a factory reset and then phone didn't start )
They will never notice that your phone was rooted
They will change the motherboard and give you back
Next time think before you do something....
k - going 2 service center because its just 6 months past phone - with that excuse lets see what happens.
Hello. I am having this problem too, but pressing Vol Up + HOME + Power On, ODIn detects the phone, but when I start the process it stay in "<1> setup connection..."

yes it does enter what i presume to be download mode (up to continue, down to restart)
Boot into download mode and flash a stock rom via Odin then start over your not bricked don't worry
After you do the stock ROM via Odin and let it settle, you can try the ICS repack again. Someone here can help you, but theres already good threads out there for step by step.
One thing I can say since you asked what not to do again is use PC Odin instead of Mobile Odin. Yes, you will get a triangle but you can use triangle away to get rid of it, if you wish. I personally sport the triangle on my phone
Yeah, your phone is not bricked, no worries.
Here's a thread that will help you, make sure to get correct files and flash to stock using PC Odin:

Try long pressing power button and rebooting, if not downloading mode is your way, (do you have ICS rom zip into SD Card?), you will need it to flash it, goes to development threads and you can find it, you can choose one of them, actually I´m on Criskelo V2 LPC6 its good for dayly use its full working, when you got it press at same time Vol +/power button/home and enter in Clockwork mode goes to install zip from sd card, choose from sd card and ICS zip, back to menu wipe data, wipe cache, goes to advanced and wipe dalvick cache, reboot system now and follow steps introducing gmail account and its all enjoy yor NOTE with ICS.

Bricked Note

I have been searching for a solution, but haven't found any..
I flashed to kingdroid rom a while ago from stock GB with abyss kernel. Everything went fine, and later wanted to try a new rom.
So I wiped the data and factory reset in CWM and tried to restore the old stock GB. I don't know if anything went wrong in that process, but now I can't even turn on the phone? I can't boot up CWM either?

Can you enter download mode??If so flash any GB rom.If the flash is getting stuck at factoryfs or somewhere for long than 15 mins..you have superbricked your phone by doing a wipe.Only way is to replace the mobo or trying this
yeah go on download mode. Use odin pc. It will raise the counter, but its much better than a brick note.. Hehe
Download mode is volume down, home key and turn on key right?
Doesnt work.. how long is I supposed to hold it in?
And what is a MOBO?
Easy ... Don't Panic

The First Thing you did was right, since you did the wipe using the AbyssKernel kernel, witch was safe and away from the HardBrick Thing around the Stock ICS Kernel.
But what you did wrong, is that you did wipe and restore using the Kernel inside the rom you used, wich of course was in cause !!!! so Here is what you will do, just Follow the Steps in My following Post, and you are done

Glad to hear kimifender!
Sorry for not being that bright in all this.. But how can I do all the instructions when I can't turn the phone on? I can't find the sdcards on my computer either when i connect the phone to the computer
Sounds like you have a big paperweight. You need to somehow get it to a Samsung repair center to get the motherboard replaced. There's a thread in the General section that MIGHT help revive it, but no guarantees.
Always make sure you read, read, read before you flash anything. Like other people said, the restore is what bricked it.

Maybe im just not turning it on the right way?

If you're pushing the power button, you are turning it on. If you are holding down volume up/down + power + home button you are trying to put it in download/recovery.
Sorry, but it sounds like it is a paperweight/brick.

Check battery. make sure it still has power. Pull out and leave out 5 minutes and replace it back as well.
Then turn it on and try to enter download mode (Home volume-down and power) and connect it to PC odin (even in case the screen does not turn on) and see the yellow box is there. If there is, you can flash kernel that has CWM as well, and there is hope to revive it.
If you cannot get odin to see it, then SS service is the only way.

Well Of course, If your phone is not ON, it won't show any usb storage on the PC.
Don't Give up Yet !!!
Are you sure your phone has enough battery charge,
Not Sure? well Do this :
- Keep your phone under AC Battery Charger (no USB charging) for at least 45 min.
- Take Off the Battery for at least 10s seconde,
put it back, Then try to to enter to download mode directly : Vol down + Power + Home Button at the same time untill you see the Yellow Dowload Logo, Don't Try to turn your phone on by Pressing the power Button as Normally, It Simply won't turn on !!
Keep taking the Battery Off and Back untill it works, believe me this happened before.
How much would it cost to get it fixed?
How much would a new motherboard cost?

Try My Post First untill it works, Believe it or not !!!!!
I really doubt that will work if he has a superbrick. If it does it would be amazing.
But how can i flash, when I can't even turn on the phone?

Try what I told you in Post N°12,
If you get the chance to get into the download mode : then Follow My Post N°5.
You Have to Make sure your phone is really Dead, or just need a push to wake up again.
I swear this happened to me before, and believe me I'm no noob.
Just Try First. If it doesn't work, then Buy another one ;;;;
how i fixed it
Iám new as a member here but not new on reading here on this forum.
Want to post fast how i brickt my phone with ics and kernel problems and wipe going wrong.
Cwm still working but nothing is going anymore.
In cwm flash a franco kernel (i used Franco kernel 10 because had it on my sd card) then reboot into recovery and flash the Abys kernel.
Reboot into recovery and install your rom or restore an backup you made.
I hope sthis works for all.
