[Q] Droid4 under Reogers not working, Droid3 does - Motorola Droid 4

I have Droids 3 and 4, both rooted and with up to date stock rom.
Droid3 works okay with Rogers, it connects, 3G icon appeaars and i can work.
Droid4 doesnt, it shows H/3G icon but it doesnt brows for example
I have same APN settings on both, and I'm pretty sure D4 sim has data allowed (on both SIMS Rogers profile shows data addon enabled).
Is it something i must do to make D4 work on Rogers??

Does 2G work on Telus with Milestone?

I'm currently using CM 6.1.2 on my Milestone.
If I switch to 2G mode in the mobile network settings, I have no connection.
If I use the Toggle 2G app, it doesn't seem to really do anything. If I set 2G to use one of the options that don't disconnect me (WCDMA, CDMA or GSM 2g/3g) it still shows 3G in the status bar so I'm not sure what the point is in using the Toggle 2G app.
Wondering the same thing myself...
Does anyone knows the answer?

I am not certain about this (i use rogers), but i believe that telus has no 2G (edge) network. They built a 3G only network just in time for the olympics to replace their cdma network:
So the toggler probably cant find a valid connection and retries 3G.
Manual mode cant find a network at all.
On rogers, i can fallback to 2g. This is normal according to what i think i know.

thanks for the info.
That's what I thought so have given up on the idea of getting 2g to work
I guess when it comes to 3g and saving battery life, juice defender will have to do as it can turn off data when the screen is off but still have the phone working.
Well, I think I made some progress with this.
On my phone, I was also loosing the connection when switching from 3G to 2G but it's working now. I can get calls, it's only the data aver 2G that doesn't work now.
I have the Cronos rom on my phone, I can tell you what I did if you're interested.
Yes please do.
If it works on cm6 then at least I can also save juice by not using juice defender... oh the irony... lol
edit: hey look at all them Canadian flags, eh?!

Took me a lot of time to find the right switches combination.
Anyway, I have Toggle 2G auto managing the 2G/3G and for the bottom 2 options:
2G network: WCDMA preferred (3G/2G)
3G network: GSM auto (PRL)(2G/3G)
If I check under Setting/About/Phone/Status, I see written mobile network type UMTS.
Hmm... I had those 2 settings reversed when using toggly2g
I will try that.
Right now, my mobile network type shows up as HSPA.
Your post prompted me to find the difference and came up with these 2 useful pages just before my head exploded.

Not sure but I don't think so. You can turn off the data but have the phone connected to the 3G network, right?
I think you could get data over 2G but it's just very slow, right?
With Telus I don't think they allow data over 2G.
zeppelinrox, I wonder why yours shows like this, what do you have active under those settings?
What ROMs are you guys using?

When I'm on 2G it shows as UMTS
With 3G (mobile data enabled) I see it alternating from 3G/UMTS to H/HSPA.
I'm on CM6.
My phone always shows HSPA except if I set it to use 2G then it shows GPRS - which is when I have no data and no phone signal.
I did use the Telus baseband file in AOR though... I wonder how it will behave if I use the Canada baseband....
Also, here's a neat trick....
dial *#*#4636#*#*
A Testing App will show up....
Select Phone Information and then goto the bottom.
You can set your preferred Network type.
Ok so that listbox shows all the different options.
The only options that will save are:
GSM only (2g - I get nothing - shows as GPRS)
WCDMA only (3g - shows as HSPA)
GSM auto (PRL) - (3g - shows as HSPA as well)
All the other options either are not selectable or just revert back to GSM auto (as is the case with WCDMA preferred)
I just did a few speed tests and I seem to get faster speeds with GSM auto than I do with WCDMA only
Gonna try that Canada baseband now....
Edit: Same thing. Except the speed test is slower for both WCDMA and GSM autio so best off using the Telus baseband.
The dial trick doesn't work. I dial the sequence as a phone number, right?
It disappears then nothing changes.
ah.. yeah sometimes it takes 2 or 3 tries...
do you use adw launcher?
If so, you can actually create a shortcut for it... I figured it out today.
1 Press and hold on homescreen and select Custom shortcut
2 Press "Pick your activity"
3 Select the second item on the list ie. Activities (with the ADW icon)
4 Wait for all stuff to load, scroll down to Settings, and press the arrow next to it to see the long list of activites that Settings.apk can do.
5 Scroll down near the end of the list, you will see Testing(.TestingSettings)
6. Select that and press OK on the next window.
I also made one for Battery History, which is actually part of the Testing app but is usually only accessible through Spare Parts.
I still can't get the trick to work... doesn't do anything on my phone
Right now I'm on the 2501 rom (latest 2.2.1 from Motorola) and I can say it's the best I've tested so far!
Outstanding battery life!
I found another way to run Testing App.
With Google gesture search you can set it to launch Settings actions
Let it scan and then write "testing" on the screen
Edit: oh crap I mistyped the code.
Its *#*#4636#*#*
I had 4536 before so I fixed it

Well, after doing some more tests and trying different apps (2G/3G switchers) I can say those apps work only if your cell phone company has both 2G/3G network.
In Montreal, only Rogers has both.
Easy to test (btw: I'm using the FroyoMOD rom): go in "Settings" -> "Wireless & Networks" -> "Mobile Network Settings" and check "Use only 2G networks".
See if your cell phone company is listed when you do a search under "Network Operators". If it's not, don't bother using a 2G/3G switcher.
When doing this, in Montreal I see only Rogers listed. If I uncheck "Use only 2G networks" I see all 3 of them: Bell, Telus and Rogers.
Hope this helps!

Droid 4 On Rogers Wireless (Canada) - Incoming "Pay Phone" caller ID Solution

Droid 4 On Rogers Wireless (Canada) - Incoming "Pay Phone" caller ID Solution
I recently got my XT894, Droid 4 in the mail, and hooked it up to Rogers Wireless in Canada.
When I was receiving phone calls, the built in dialer would tell me that "Pay Phone" is calling, the solution to contact the Rogers Customer Care, and have them remove the "Name Display" option.
Rogers has 2 services for call display:
Name Display (which does a phonebook lookup from Roger's Side)
Call Display (the number of the dialer who is trying to dial you)
Most motorola radios don't actually support these 2 features together, so Blur reads it as "Pay Phone". After contacting Customer Service, have them remove ONLY "Name Display". I restarted my phone then everything started working properly again.
I hope this helps someone!
First off, I wanted to say that I'm on the leak 6.16.206
I also got mobile hotspot working on Rogers (this solution may apply to other rooted users running on different providers).
I added the APN settings as defined originally here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20366961&postcount=2
Name: Rogers Tethering
APN: isp.apn
MCC: 302
MNC: 720
APN type: dun
otherwise, any other fields are showing as <not set> OR None
When I tried to add dun to the apn type, the moto UI told me only providers could add DUN types, so I went into SQLite Editor -> Phone/Messaging Storage -> telephony.db -> carriers -> Located the last APN which I added manually, scrolled over to "type" then long pressed that field, chose "edit field" and added dun. Once completed, I restarted my phone. I now have the stock mobile hotspot app working (I had to also disable the entitlement check earlier) on Rogers!

I can confirm that the Droid 4 works on Rogers. Took a week of fiddling, but it works.
Received the Droid 4 with 2.3.4 installed. Did the over-the-air updates to 4.0.4. Rooted it, installed SafeStrap 3, and installed Olegfusion's CM10/JB ROM (4.1.2), and was off to the races. Shows "E", "3G", and "H" when accessing the Internet.
have you ever try with stock kernel?
I wonder not to update to CM10 right now. I have a problem, it seems to connect, 3G/H letter, bu no tranmition. I have an old jaj, Droid3 working perfectly with same APN records.
Any thing that could help me??

LTE on this phone is not compatible with the Rogers network. If you want a Rogers LTE phone, pickup the Motorola RAZR HD. The phone will operate on 3G or 3.5G, although we in Canada consider HSPA+ to be "4G".
LTE can give you rates of up to 100mbps usually gives you about 25-30mbps
HSPA+ can give you rates up to 12-15mbps I usually get 4-5mbps
I hope that helps!
how hard is it to get Droid 4 to work with Canada (Rogers)?
Do u have to have unlock it and then update to ICS, and then you're all set?

The phone comes unlocked, you just have to load up ICS and throw on the Rogers APN (rogers-core-appl1.apn) and you're good. If you want to do some of the advanced features like setting up wireless tethering and stuff along those lines, you'll need root. I created a full Rogers how-to on droidforums.net, you can view it here :

Have you tried another SIM card in your phone? Sounds like you have something wired. I would also check to make sure you are in global mode on the phone.

eBay, yes.I got mine as "bad ESN" from a liquidator, it was quite a good deal. Obviously, by now you can find clean ESN versions for below $250.
Anyways, I am on Koodo/Telus. Under Mobile Networks Settings / Network Mode set GSM/UMTS and Select Network must be UTMS only, the default finds GSM which is weird because Telus AFAIK does not even have a GSM network! It has CDMA, HSPA+, LTE even iDEN but not GSM. Before I forced UMTS, phone calls worked more or less but mobile data rarely. Since I forced UMTS I get mobile data everywhere, inside buildings, all that -- I had lots of reception problems with Wind Mobile, Telus is infinitely better.

[SOLVED] DROID 4 Canada SMS/voice only, no data on Rogers/Fido - help!
SOLVED! see below.
Droid 4 from Ebay, $135 or something + shipping. Replacing my string of bad luck with i927's from smartphone_wholesale (aka Cell Phone Forever) on ebay (tho the 1st one they sent was great til i lost it).
SMS/Voice is fine but cannot do any cell data on it. Following all settings on fido's site for APNs the fido-core-appl1.apn doesnt work. Had to manually put it in (APN list was blank). Tried my wife's Roger's sim, it populated the APN list itself (4 of them, all combos of internet w or w/o MMS, and rogers +/- 'internet' in the name). None of them work either (they match what's in the fora here and on the rogers site, rogers-core-appl1.apn etc).
Im a bit of a newb: is my phone not unlocked properly or something? What gives? Radio is set to global or GSM/UMTS (CDMA doenst work of course). What's the solution here?
System version: 98.72.18.XT894.Verizon.en.US

yes mobile data is on (and roaming set to yes but phone states it's not roaming now)
every time i've added apn's and saved i've rebooted (and rebooted twice with wife's SIM in too, in case settings had to go sim -> phone + reboot, etc). No luck any way ive tried.
Thanks for help.
[UPDATE]
belay that request cadet!
Ok I just removed the wife's sim and put mine in, rebooted, and this sim (fido) doesnt populate the APN list. I was in the middle of inputting settings for it, hadn't finished and a buncha text+ came in and wifi is off (I saw I was on Edge, big blue E on status bar). Then before I could even react I had hit save, and data turned off.
Yep, removing "internet" from the APN 'type' works fine. Leave it blank.
W t f. Maybe someone can explain that shiz to me.

EV-DO within non-VZW network

Does anyone know how to make it work?
1. Flashed PRL and have voice and data over 1xRTT work as properly as it possible. Still have some problems with losing network, but guess it comes from my efforts to make EV-DO working.
2. Wrote NV item 8035 as it recommended.
3. Wrote operator values through DFS CDMA Tool
Got 3G working, but lost it and fell back to state 1. upon reboot. Sometimes 3G icon appears, but returns to 1x, when it comes to data transmission.

I have exactly the same with my Moto DROID 2.
There is the script forcing EV-DO authorization by Verizon specific way. If we could find it and remove, 3G will be stable.

I'm currently using a Droid 3 (from Verizon, XT862) in Australia.
I'm assuming it is already GSM unlocked, as I just put my SIM card into it and was able to make and receive phone calls and SMSs.
However, I am unable to get any sort of mobile data connection (besides WIFI).

Gsm data is controlled via the apns under mobile networks. Ensure you are in gsm/umts mode and verify the correct apn is selected for your carrier. If there are no apns, hit menu > add apn and supply proper settings, they are either preloaded on the sim or listed on the carrier site. A quick google will also provide the correct info.
Also under data management, ensure data is enabled over mobile network. ##program ONLY changes cdma programming.
I've checked those and.the proper APNs are there. Also in UMTS mode.

There should be absolutely no problem with GSM/UMTS data connection and MMS with unlocked xt862, just enter apn manually and go.
My personal butthurt is EV-DO with non-Verizon CDMA networks as it's really the issue even if you try to hack as the phones with the same Qualcomm chipsets like Droid 2 Global.
I've became real expert in flashing CDMA settings and real guru in tweaking props and rils. But it doesn't help.
I say no Moto and no Android anymore. I'm going to buy WP8 handset as soon as it become available with CDMA. F**k Moto and Google, long live Microsoft which never disappointed me with WM handsets.

[Q] Help! Can't get cell signal on rooted Republic Wireless Moto X running 4.4.2

I have a rooted XT1049 Moto X on republic wireless that is running 4.4.2. I've recently installed xposed and gravity box. Gravity box installed some extra quick change toggles to the notification tray and one of them is the 2G/3G network mode toggle. I touched that and ever since I have zero cell signal. Is there any way I can fix what touching that toggle screwed up? If I long press the network mode toggle it takes me to a mobile network settings page where everything is greyed out and the preferred network type says "Change the network operating mode" under it and network operators says "Choose a network operator" under it, but since they are greyed out I can't change them. I've tried to update the PRL and update the profile, neither helped. I'm wondering if that toggle might have switched the radio over to GSM mode? Let me know if I need to supply any other information that would help get this resolved. Any help would be appreciated, Thank you.
I did this once. I can't remember exactly what corrected it, but I think I just made sure the toggle was set back to 2G/3G and rebooted.

You might try using an app like Activity Launcher:
- Select All activities

You might try using an app like Activity Launcher:
- Select All activities
- Scroll down and tap the listing for Settings which will expand and show sub-listings.
- Scroll down and tap the sub-listing for Phone Info under Settings which will run the com.android.settings.RadioInfo activity
- Set preferred network type: CDMA auto (PRL)

Every time I set it to CDMA auto (PRL) it changes back to WCDMA preferred, is there something else I have to change at the same time to get it to stick?

I'm not sure. Simply selecting the different options there seems to apply immediately on my device.
How did you root your phone?

I used the towel pie root method. I just have an empty triangle where the cell signal bars usually are.

I'm not very familiar with Towel Pie root. Are you able to edit the settings.db directly? You could try an app like SQLite Master or SQLite Editor to set the value of preferred_network_mode in the global table of the settings.db database (/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db):
0 = WCDMA preferred
1 = GSM only
2 = WCDMA only
3 = GSM auto (PRL)
4 = CDMA auto (PRL)
5 = CDMA only (PRL)
6 = EvDo only
7 = GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)
8 = LTE/CDMA auto (PRL)
9 = LTE/GSM auto (PRL)
10 = LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)
11 = LTE only
12 = Unknown
Are you using it on RW or gsm?

You performed my sim-unlock, right? Did you flash the nv-ruim-only file? If so, that locks the device to GSM. Flash the "revert" file....
The SIM-Unlock is NOT for people wanting to use CDMA....

No I didn't use the sim-unlock, I'm just using it on RW. This all started when I used the 2g/3g toggle that got installed with Gravity Box.

Ok, I understand.
A similar issue happened to me -- it has something to do with RW's proprietary ROM. The only solution for me was to flash the entire stock 4.4.2 RW SBF.
You might have success just using mfastboot to flash system.img - should solve your issues.

Thank you, I'll try to find a guide to help me do just that. Thanks again.
