[Q] GT-N7000 Soft-Bricked/Hard-Bricked - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everyone,
Today I occurred to a problem with my Galaxy Note.
Last night I was running "MKalter Jelly Bean ROM Based on XXLS2" which I was having some ROM issues, at the same time I rooted my phone. After a while using my phone I decided to reboot my phone. When I rebooted my phone the boot logo "Samsung Galaxy GT-N7000" only appeared and then my screen went black...
I decided to leave my phone charge for a while , but when I came back and restarted my phone, I still had the same problem I got back up to the boot logo and then the screen would just go black. I'm not sure if I hard bricked my phone or soft bricked my phone. I can still access CWRM and my computer can still detect my phone (my computer installed the drivers) but I just cannot get into my phone its just a black screen when i reboot it.
So I was wondering if this is a serious problem :/ (If you need more details please ask me)
If there is any fix for this, I would like to go back to a stock GB rom from Samsung. I read some threads but didn't really have what I was looking for so I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have PC Odin and PC Odin can detect my phone. I was wondering what should I do to get my phone back to a stock rom. Should I use PC Odin and download an official ROM from a thread and flash it from PC Odin ?
Thanks to anyone who could help me. All help is greatly appreciated:fingers-crossed:
I'm new to the XDA community, so anyone trying to offer help please keep it noob friendly.

if you want to go back to the GB rom,
download the rom from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
put the phone in download mode and connect to pc
select the rom in PDA tab... nothing else to be changed.
click on start.
once the flash is successful, boot into recovery and do a wipe data factory reset. boot normally.

Will these affect anything ? Will I occur to any problems when flashing this rom since my phone has a problem starting up ?

I don't think so. But you will. loose all you apps and data. The odin is a safe method to flash so just try and let us know.

That's fine I just want to go back to an ICS rom. The thread you linked me has ICS ROMs does it matter which one I pick ? Do I need to go back to a GB ROM then upgrade to ICS or can I just flash an ICS ROM on PC Odin.

ics stock kernel is unsafe for factory reset and you will need to do a wipe or else the phone will be stuck in a boot loop. If you want to flash ics the after flashing, you need to install a safe kernel first like philz and them do a wipe. that's safe. doing wipe on stock is kernel may brick your phone.
I would say ics is little easier as once you install philz kernel you will automatically gain root as well. so you don't need to go about rooting the phone again
---------- Post added at 07:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:29 PM ----------
steps for ICS
download an ics rom.. preferable 4.0.4
downnload the kernel that corresponds to your rom from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
put the kernel in external SD
the flash it using PC odin as said in the steps above.
once flash is successful, boot into recovery and choose install zip from SD
choose the kernel you downloaded.
again once successful, boot into recovery and you should see CWM v6.0.1.4-Philz.
If you see this go ahead and do a wipe data factory reset, wipe cache, advanced > wipe dalvik.
reboot now.
wait for a few minutes for the phone to boot up.

looks like a missed cache cleaning.
Since you can access CWRM, can you do a cache and dalvik wipe ? and try to reboot again ?
If not working, you can try to reinstall the rom again (wipe cache/dalvik and install the rom using cwrm).
If that doesn't work -> factory reset wipe cache and dalvik and install a safe ics rom (i suggest rocketrom )
Else if you can't install anything using cwrm, use odin for the gingerbread rom linked above.

Should I download both of these ? Sorry I'm just trying to take this step by step not to mess anything up.
The thing is my computer can detect my phone but I cannot access the SD Card or the Internal space in my phone (it doesn't show up on "My Computer"). So to install this Kernal could I flash it using PC Odin ? I'm a bit confused on the steps.

for flashing using odin: use the tar file
for flashing from recovery: use the zip
but flahsing from odin will leave a yellow triangle and increase the counter on your phone.
cant you remove the SD card and place the kernel there ? using card reader / another phone / camera ?
---------- Post added at 07:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:51 PM ----------
OR
try booting into recovery mode, and then go to mounts & storage > mount USB > this should give you access.. make sure you place the kernel in external SD only.

I have a Dell Streak I'll add the Kernal in its SD Card then add it to my note and Flash it from CWRM

try the 2nd method first.
when you flash the stock rom, you won't have Cwm.. you have to flash the kernel in Stock recovery

Do I flash the ROM I downloaded on PC ODIN first ? What do you mean flash the kernal in stock recovery ? If that is what you are asking after flashing the ROM what do i do ? What will happen ?

if your going back to stock rom follow this video tutorial this will help you out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCXfmTj8nLU

1. connect phone to pc. boot into cwm and > mounts and storage > mount usb. check if the storage shows up on the pc.
if yes then place the kernel in external SD
2. now flash the rom using PC odin. > this will remove the CWM and place the stock android recovery back .
once the flash is successful, boot into recovery (android recovery 3e) > choose install from external storage> point to the kernel and install... then boot into recovery again and now you will have CWM again.

[Q] rooted Gt7000 that I pressed update firmware,now not working . . please help

Hello All
I have a GT 7000 with stock 4.1.2 on it and it is only rooted.
It told me it had downloaded firmware update which i pressed install ( not knowing I shouldn't have because of my note being rooted) , and in doing so it is now just showing the little android dude with the blue thing in his tummy going round
Pressing volume up, home, power button won't do anything.
I can only get it into odin mode ( volume down, home, power button )
I am a complete noob and not sure what to do to get my note to work.
A friend said I need to flash a new rom via odin and I cant find a clear guide on how to do that.
For I can't afford to brick my note.
Please help
Kindest regards
pipsqueak 22 ooox
You have to have the samsung drivers installed for odin to work.
To get a stock rom google for sammobile. There are all official formwares (You will have to register).
After that extract that file, run odin and select the pda file (extracted md5 file).
Flash it. After reboot go to stock cwm and wipe data.
You should be fixed now.
Sent from note, a phone like never before
Odin is the way to go and the only way. Use this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191 it will show how to flash Philz kernel on your phone and then you will have cwm. After that you will have to get a cwm flashable Rom out of the android dev section and put on your sd card, usb mass storage my work in philz kernel if so just put Rom on card and flash through cwm. Then phone will work or find a guide on pc Odin for flashing stock n7000 roms they are out there
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
This just happened to me!!
Thanks jakuburban for your advice.
Though i didn't need to "After reboot go to stock cwm and wipe data." or maybe i do.
I just let it finish booting etc and everything was working fine, everything intact and okey dokey.
Can anyone say why this happened and what to do about updates in the future please?
Thanks again guys.
Yeah, you sometimes don't need to wipe data. I told You to do this to be 100% sure it will work.
For the future, You can't use official update if You have root (normally it should give You information that You can't update the os because "Your device has been modified"), as You don't have original cwm and it won't boot into cwm to update Your os.
Sent from note, a phone like never before
Okey dokey.
Thanks again for the info.

Hi Guys,
Thanks heaps for your advice
I did what you said jakuburban but odin would get through seemmed like it was almost there then hung/froze

Not sure what to do?
Is this where I have to flash a hole new Rom?
Im not sure how to do this as I was looking at putting cyanogenMod rom on but I was reading some where not all rom's come in .tar forms
and I downloaded the latest stable rom from cyanogenMod but it is a . zip
so im not sure what to do there?
Thanks heaps

Hanging at that place means there is some problem with the connection between note and pc. Make sure you have all the drivers installed and use original USB cable and main USB ports.
zip file roms need to be installed using clockwork mod recovery.

[Q] Is the phone bricked or what?

Hello readers,
MY girlfriend decided that she wanted a costum ROM on her n7000. So she looked up how to do it on YouTube...
What she Tried to do was flash a kernel in stock recovery. She was on a ICS stock ROM, not rooted. And what she got was a phone that only went into download mode. When i turned it on it was stuck in the samsung screen. booting intoo recovery dint respond. Then she came to me. So i read on the xda forums that this might result in a bricked phone.
When i got it i tried tot flash speedmod 3k v13 kernel. Via PC Odin. It all completed normaly but the reboot (I know Odin a bit since i flash roms since the Sgs1 and now i still have an Sgs3.)
The problem we have now is that the cwmr v5.8.1.8 doesnt see the external SD. so i cant flash a rom of the sd. But now i am not shure if this is the emmc brick or my recovery doesnt support flashing from external SD cards. The SD card is good, tested it.
So if anyone knows what the best step from here is, please share it. I'm thinking about scanning For Bicked blocks. But i have never gone so far in computing. So im a bit scared of it.. XD Might reflash the kernel or update cwmr.
Download a stock Rom and try to install it with PC Odin.
If it stops with an error at factoryfs.img it is bricked.
If it succeeds you have a solid base for installing a Custom Rom (even if it is for your girl I wouldn't use a "costum" Rom).

I would first go to PhilZ thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31911620
Look for a kernel for ICS, any of the version 3.99 should do. Choose the tar file to flash it via odin. After that try go into recovery again to see if it works.

Oke, so i un-installed kies, and un-installed the phone drives from my pc, then installed the drivers from the ''stock rom n7000'' post. i flashed the kernel again using odin for pc, gues what, it worked!
The booted up normaly and it also uses philz touch recovery normaly.
I installed the App root checker, and i have root acces.
Now i can just flash towards anything i want right? becuase i am now on a safe kernel?
Thanks alot for your help!
Good to know you can get back to safety. Yes. Just nees to read and follow rom installation guide carefully from respective rom that you want.

Update Supersu binary via cwm, phone stuck at samsung logo

Please help me out guys.. Yesterday i installed Xperiacle's awesome N8XT ROM and while i updated all google apps i also Super Su app.. When i opened the Super Su app it asked me to updated Binaries and gave me 2 options, one via NORMAL method and other being via CWM or TWRP.. Since i have CWM i chose that and phone got restarted and its stuck in samsung logo ever since!..
I tried taking out the battery for a few mins that doesnt help..
I tried Pressing VOL UP + HOME + POWER but the its doesnt get into recovery!
Right now i am downloading Stock Rom and thinking of flashing it via ODIN.. Is that the only solution?..
Is there any other solution apart from this?..
Thanks in advance
P.S:- I didnt check into Developer options so i dont know whether USB Debugging was checked or not!!.. I suppose this may be a cause to this problem??..
If you can't get into recovery mode then better flash the rom using Odin.
@ Nokia Thanks for your reply
Currenly my mobile has Philz kernel but i doubt it it is in usable mode since i cant even get into it..
1) So do i have to flash philz kernel once again using odin before flashing stock Rom or after flashing stock Rom?..
2) Odin can only be used to flash Stock Roms rite?.. Custom Roms Can't be flashed using Odin right?..

1. Yes you have to flash philz kernel to get custom cwm recovery after flashing stock rom, you can also flash the .zip file of the philz kernel in stock rom.
2. Custom roms can easily be installed via philz recovery.

dont know what that is.. but look at the last line. Hes having problems.. you go the long and better way.
Well, i have downloaded the Stock rom and the Odin is stuck in the following message

Its been a while and i dont see a msg after setupconnection!.. Previously i tried using Odin vV3.09 and i received a FAIL msg but Dr.ketan in his guide uses Odin V 1.85.. So right now using 1.85 and stuck at setupconnection!.. Wonder whether the version of Odin will make any difference?!..
Would this normally take this much time to flash a stock rom via Odin?.. Thanks for your help..
No.. it should not make any difference.. Make sure all the kies processes are terminated and run odin as admin.. then use the main USB port. And yeah... reboot phone into download mode and retry,
Awesome! I did a quick research in Dr.ketan's thread and found this post " http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41136158&postcount=6055 ".. You also gave me the same Advice .. So i disconnected and did as you guys suggested and now voila! Odin finished flashing the Firmware but i am facing a " Bootloop! "..
I also found out that this kernel " http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252977 " is great for touchwiz based roms and gives great battery life!.. So is it ok now to flash the kernel without minding the " Bootloop "??..
UPDATE:- Fixed the bootloop by going into recovery and Factory reset & wipe cache.. Now it works!
For boot loop you need to boot into recovery and wipe data. Yes that kernel is good.. but you can also try this

Hi,

1. downloaded the .zip version of philz and tried to flash it using stock recovery "Update from external storage". When it was updating suddenly phone was getting turned off. Tried two to three times.
2. Also tried the ODIN v1.85 and v3+. downloaded the tar.md5 file matching to n7000, and when tried to flash it using ODIN two times it got struck at "SetupConnection: and 2 to 3 times it got failed. saying

wanted to install the lollipop or kitkat.
Please guide me how to install philz or cmw recovery.
What am I doing wrong, why the philz is not getting flash using ODIN or stock recovery.
I have also tried the "flashify" app. and when flashing philz recovery its saying "Partition flashed successfully" but when going to recovery mode there I find stock recovery. Nothing is working.
you need to flash a custom kernel which includes the recovery. as far as i know it is not possible to flash recovery only with keeping stock kernel. philz provided several kernels for N7000 with appropriate recovery for many different android versions.

Get a philz kernel that matches your ROM build number. In your case its ddlsc. If you don't find that xxlta will also do.
I understand that need to download the kernal. just to confirm is it "Signed" .zip file of philz?
Last time I was rooted with the philz signed .zip file. Root was successfull but recovery was still stock. and when I flash the recovery using CWM App. my phone bricked. it was struck at samsung logo. Some how I flashed the stock rom and my note got a life.
Now this time I am scared to do the same. But still will give a try.
Right now my phone is rooted with supersu. To flash the philz kernal with recovery, Do i have to unroot first and then flash? Or I can flash without unrooting?
Thanks for suppoting. XDA is the good place for anyking of troublesooting and memebers here are best in supporting.
Can you please provide the url from where to download the philz kernal.
You can use the zip or tar file. Zip is preferred. You don't need to unroot.
Thanks you so much. was able to successful install the philz recovery
My phone is bricked due to my friend mistake. As per your suggestion I have downloaded the philz kernel. flashed it and philz recovery was installed. I was so happy, My friend asked to see the phone and I gave him. In my phone the "ClockWorkMod app" was installed from google play. My friend asked me whether he can backup the data or not. I said ok do it. He open the "ClockWorkMode app" and went to backup and clicked on it. it asked for the name of the backup. He have given the name and clicked on the ok button. Suddently phone got turned off and was struck at "Galaxy Note GT N7000" boot screen. I tried to do the power off using power button but again it was getting turned on automatically and getting struck at boot screen. Taken the battery out.
tried to go into recovery mode but was not able to go there. Only download mode is working. I flash the "Philz recovery" using ODIN.
and when reboot the phone got struck at same boot screen with an additional yellow triangle.
Can it be re-cover or it is hard brick? Please suggest something. I have downloaded the stock DDLC tar file from sammobile site. Do I need the partition .pit file? I tried to find out the partition .pit file for 16gb version but all links are broken.
Help me please.

Ouch, try reflashing everything according to the previous instructions again. Remember to clear cache and do a factory reset after that, the Rom Manager aka ClockWorkMode app is kinda useless..
Back to life,
After bricking my phone I was in so much stress. Was thinking all the possible way like re-partition csc etc... then suddenly thought why not flashing the stock rom which is downloaded. Puts the phone in download mode. open the ODIN 1.85 connected the phone with pc and selected the stock DDLSC tar md5 file, taken a deep breath and remembered all the gods and clicked on the start button.
flashing started within 10 min it finished and phone re-booted. back to stock rom without loosing any kind of data. To my surprise all the app which was moved to external card was automatically detected and checked the sd phone memory and all my personal file and data with contacts and messages was available. Once again many many thanks to XDA and all of you.
Again rooted the phone with Philz kernel. LOL.
Can you please help me. How to do nandroid backup and whether it can be flash by ODIN or not.
Make a nandroid backup by booting into recovery and choosing backup. Or use an app like zipinstaller.
No odin cannot flash a nandroid backup. It has to be restored using recovery only.

Cannot Factory Reset Through CWM

Can anyone help me with my problem? :crying:
Galaxy S3 Mini(GT-I8190), rooted, and no custom ROM(Stock ROM Installed). I cannot go to my homescreen so yeah.. :crying:
I'm using CWM recovery v6.0.2.7, when i will do "wipe data/factory reset" and press yes the phone will restart immediately and nothing happens it didn't reformat my phone either like nothing happens. I stuck at boot loop with "galaxy s3 mini logo" and keep restarting it self, while turning on the LED light(menu and back) below blinks 3 times i don't know what does it means. I reinstalled stock firmware from sammobile like few months i did when trying to fix in boot loop but now it won't work, while installing stock firmware via ODIN, i notice something that there is a red colored message below "custom binary download" the message is "movi_write card_status:2 ...", btw my binary counts is 15 does it matter with this red thing message?, my "Current Binary" and "System Status" are in "Custom" but my firmware last time is Stock Firmware.
I tried installing new Recovery mode with TWRP via ODIN and it says PASS and restarts my phone and i take off the battery and goes to recovery mode and it appears that it doesn't take me to TWRP, it is like that the TWRP that i flashed via ODIN didn't install to my phone and CWM is still running in my recovery, i feel like CWM won't let me to factory/reset my phone so i changed to TWRP but it won't let me.
Please help me guys :crying:
Oh sh*t the exact same happened with me! Try looking for a param.tar file for your device?

Just that I had Maclaw's CM11 installed on my phone. I had the movi card status thing as well so maybe it could mean that the NAND (internal storage device) is corrupted or messed up? Yeah try looking for a param.tar file for a GT-I8190, because there's different variants for the S3 mini like GT-I8190N which is NFC, GT-I8190L which is the Latin version and stuff like that. Also flash the correct type of ROM as well. Good luck with everything.

oh hey thanks for replying to me , i already use the PARAM_I8190 after flashing the stock rom but it still stuck at bootloop. O hey i found the red message "movi_write card_status:2 ... start:blk: ..." while flashing the stock rom, i downloaded 2 or 3 more stock roms but still the same with the same thing red message and stuck at boot loop.
I can access to download mode and recovery mode but when i do factory reset/data in recovery mode it will restart the phone immediately but after that restart my old files in my phone are still there it likes nothing happens when i want to format my phone.
I don't think anything can help, so copy everything from your internal storage to your computer and return the phone to your seller maybe?

I hope so but i can't for now, ill just leave this thing alone and wait for more people to help me with this problem.
Maybe wipe via Odin?
There's a file WIPE_I8190.tar.md5, which should also deletes the files. Try to use it through Odin! Just be sure to have all important data saved on your PC
I'm sorry but I can't upload the file for you, because I'm still a new user at xda But you'll find it I downloaded it just a few days ago
If this doesn't work experiment around with the Param-File, the Recovery-File etc.
I had problems with my S3Mini, too, got it so much destroyed that I just was able to access Downloadmode, not even the Recovery and got it full back to life There are always ways

how o.o? I dont have SDCARD, if i have one i don't have sdcard adapter to put the twrp file.
I already tried everything using these files, WIPE_I8190, PARAM_I8190, Stock Firmware, and PIT FILE through odin. I'm getting this red message "movi_write card_status:2 (...) start: ... blk: ..." while performing all files through odin and says PASS, except for PARAM_I8190 there is no red message. I cannot fix anymore by my own, if anyone knows how to fix it please tell me

You don't even need any custom recovery to do Wipe Data/Factory Reset (that's mean /data and /cache partition will be formatted), you can do this by stock recovery.
Put phone in Download Mode and flash original firmware for your device in Odin.
Than go to stock recovery and Wipe Data.
And post here log from Odin after flashing soft.
Or from custom recovery, if working, you can flash script which will unmount /data, /cache, /system, /sdcard and do format all these partitions.

When i do "Wipe Data/Factory Reset", formating the /data through CWM recovery(v6.0.2.7), accessing the download folder(internal sdcard) and "wipe dalvik cache" my phone restarts immediately. Still not booting to homepage. The stock firmware were i installed is the same firmware that i used in my current phone. I tried to used other custom ROM is it called CM 11 and 12 by maclaw, but it still the same it won't boot to homepage and the red message is still there while installing the firmware. I just tried this I8190XXANI4_I8190OXXANI1_VDR stock firmware earlier still nothing
Have you trying format /system, /cache, /data to f2fs? On TWRP should be that option. And then install CM11.
But this really looks like device storage is broken (mmcblk0), if is, than the last option can be to have good quality external sdcard(mmcblk1) and making some new partitions (/modemfs, /efs, /system, /data, /cache). Than you know, this is only my thinking, but maybe this is a option to skip even broken eMMC...using external SD card like inbuilded eMMC memory.

If this mmcblk1 extSDCard will work, can i root my phone again and install custom ROM's? Where to get this mmcblk1 extSDCard thing?
I'm gonna send my phone to samsung this Tuesday to fix my phone worth of $30 to fix this thing i hope so.... i don't want to tell them to me that they need to replace my eMMC that cost a lot of money.
mmcblk0 - this is whole memory of your device parted to partitions (/system, /efs, /modemfs, /kernel, /internal_sd etc.)
mmcblk1 - this is removable sdcard, has normally only one partition (mmcblk1p1) which is storage for your music, pictures, videos etc.
My idea is to partition mmcblk1 to more part (almost same like mmcblk0), edit kernel to mount new partitions as /system, /data, /cache and boot up ROM from here.
