I keep my N7000 docked in a desktop cradle during the day and would like to keep the display on, but can't find any setting to do this.
On my HTC Desire Z I fixed this with an app called Screen On from pinapps.com, but having installed this ('Enable ScreenOn' and 'On Charge' ticked) the screen still switches off after a period of inactivity.
Sorry - this must have been discussed before, but I wasn't able to find anything.

Ever since i had my t-Mobile varioIII the backlight light never goes completely off. It will go to the lowest dim setting from bright but not off. I've tried using Phonealarm and use the setting 0% but this does not help. Going directly to backlight in settings and using the slider all the way left just makes the screen backlight go dim too, not off. Does this happen on all Kaisers?
While I'm here, I have in settings>today>items a 'program' called
[email protected] listed along with the usual Date, owner info, etc but if i tick it on nothing appears on the today screen. Any body know what this is for?
same problem with backlight! (mda vario3)
my htc kaiser does that when charging and I have not got the registry keys to change it
Apologies for asking something you guys most probably already checked:
Go Start->Settings->System->Power. Then select the Advanced tab and see if "Turn off device if not used for" is checked and what amount of time has been set for this.
It's normal, Kaisers screen is not transreflective so if the backlight is off there will be no display (unlike the previous 8525/Hermes which had a transreflective screen that could be seen with the backlite off) so they keep it always on when the phone is on. If you are connected to a charger, you can set the phone to turn itself off after a set time, but that's all you can do.
On my TyTN II the setting I showed above works fine. It switches off the screen after the set period.
Yes, the display goes off because the phone is now in off/standby. If you were connected to active sync, it would just dim but stay on.
...and that's because the setting Start->Settings->System->Power->Advanced->On external power. This is by default unchecked.
The problem is how to get the screen to go off and save battery, but remain connected e.g. to WiFi for those of us who receive VoIP calls.
My rooted nook screen keeps turning off while charging, and I can't find the setting to disable it. I have it configured so wi-fi turns on and off with the screen, and sometimes I'd like wifi on in the background to download or do other things. The only way I can do that now is to remember to keep touching the screen every few minutes.
Any help?
I use a widget from the market called Screen ON widget. Just have to tap it to keep screen on. Works great.

There's an app called 'Setting Profiles' which works well for this situation. The free version allows just one rule which should be fine if this is all you need it for.
Thanks for the response guys. I actually do use Setting profiles, which is what I use to turn the wifi on and off with the screen. I just haven't figured out how to configure it to keep the screen on.
I searched for 'Screen on widget', but I got 3000 hits, and couldn't find it.
I love my desire HD but one thing i'm having problems with is this so i'm wondering if anyone knows of a app that would solve the problem.
If I put my Desire HD into the brodit active car charger for streaming audio to my bluetooth car stero. after a while the screen will shut down so I can access menu's etc without pressing the top button again.
Now I know I can set the power settings to not turn off screen if on charge but it will still dim it.
What I need to know is that does anyone know of any app that you can specify that if
X app is running and is on charge then keep screen on at full brightness
A bit like if you were running something like copilot then it doesn't turn off the screen
you could try using something like "settings profile", which has abilities to create different profiles and activate them based on a set of rules.
This gives you some serious configuration options including screen timeout, set to never, seeing if that works for me.
If you want some really deep system config then you could always give "tasker" a go.
Also forget to mention, settings profile can do some really cool stuff with rules, for example I have one rule which says,
If phone is on charge and can see wireless SSID X then change profile to Bed, where screen rotation is locked. As the SSID is my home router and the charger is next to my bed.
I then have another rule which turns off all notifications except my alarm after 11 oclock on a weekday.
And i only scratch the surface of it.
KeepScreen app. It allows u to decide which app u want to keep the screen on
I used a app call screen on.
I use widgetsoid. With this kind of tools you can toggle your GPS, WIFI, plane mode, brightness... and set your screen to be always on.
For me ScreenModeWidget
KeepScreen here
Screebl is pretty good uses the G-sensor and you can set ranges of activation
Another good choice could be Total Screen Control, give it a try.
Cheers
Tasker would make sense here. Incredibly powerful tool to automate basically any task you can think of.

Widgetsoid, silly name but seriously the best set of toggle/power/control widgets I've ever used. So customisable, even the free version. Highly reccomended. For Widgetsoid you'd choose either the widget for keep screen always on or the other widget for keep screen on when charger connected. Widgetsoid is highly reccomended. For example create a widget for Wi-Fi, APN(data), Bluetooth and GPS. Toggle these off when you aren't using your phone such as overnight and save heaps of power.
I don't get it...why not use the setting in usb debugging?
Hi all,
I've had a search around but couldn't find this particular issue discussed.
I have a N1 running CM7. When the phone is plugged in (either on my desk, or in the car) the screen will auto dim to a very low level after approx. 20 seconds after last touch.
This happens if the brightness is set to auto or a manual level. I've gone through all the settings I can find but couldn't find anything regarding this. I have got developer > stay awake enabled, which I guess stops the screen from actually sleeping, but it still goes dim.
The CM7 auto dim settings are disabled.
Any advice folks? I want the screen to not auto-dim after 20 seconds. Out of interest, the 'Car Widget Pro' widget seems to be able to force the brightness if you choose something other than 'auto' in the widget settings. So perhaps I am missing something somewhere else?
It's a real PITA when trying to navigate in the car with google maps as whenever I touch the screen to get the brightness back it disables gps tracking and I have to re-hit the icon, which is distracting whilst driving..
Here's hoping..
Hey, I'm only posting because I had a very similar issue. What I did was go into display settings (while connected via USB) and changed the timeout to one minute (or whatever you want). For me, when I went to change the timeout, no item was selected by default. This happened to me after I installed WidgetLocker for some reason. I doubt I will help but I had a very similar issue...

I have tried using tasker / locale / smart connect and i cannot find any setting / configuration where the screen does not sleep if it is in the dock?
Smart Connect can do things when docked, but changing the screen timeout time is not one of them.
Local and tasker can change the screen timeout time however they cannot get notified of the event of being put in the dock
Look in setting development, near enable adb look for keep screen on when charging
Edit: stay awake
