To buy or not to buy... - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok...
I will be really brief with this one. I have a RaZr right now. It lags, stutters and sputters even on a dual core. I am somewhere tired of this laggy OS, but hey...it gives me **cough*free*cough** good apps and they run really smooth to be very honestly. A friend has Xperia S and the games lag like hell. You may be thinking why all this in a WP8 thread?
Now comes the real question... Should I jump boat and go for the HTC 8X. I am an ex-owner of a HTC HD7. The OS was just plain beautiful. But, the catch was apps. And now the situation is even worse. MS has secured the OS so well, you can't side load apps hence, we end up paying for every app. I know this is a moral argument, but let's not get into it as of now.
I am perplexed as to what should be my next smartphone.
The NeXus 4 is around 25K in the grey market, that's 10K lesser than the 8X. If only it ended at the device being more expensive. Then we have to buy all the apps, all the high end games and all...
Not sure what to do.
All the good, high end apps with a stuttering OS on one side and the super smooth OS with tons of apps to be officially bought on the other. Should I jump the boat and get the 8X? Or stick to an OS that has jet-packs but is still limping...

Considering exactly the same thing... I really like the Lumia 920, I'm not sure its the apps thats holding me back as there's only so many angry brids you can ping, fruit you can slice and paper you can flick in a bin before it gets pretty dull... the thing holding me back is how locked down is it... I went for Android as I didnt want to buy into the Apple eco system... but I have a feeeling win8 will be similar?

exactly. Thanks for bringing that up. It is an extremely locked down system. Heck even is my Windows 8 Enterprise N edition. I can ONLY install apps on the market place. So, in a way, MS decides what I want/need and what I don't.

I take it that's like windows RT? the reason why you can only install from the Marketplace is because that's the only ones it supports by way of design of the OS. If it was an 86 bit OS I believe it would be a different story.

Question From Iphone 4 User

Hello all, Im currently using an Iphone 4, its a great phone, dont get me wrong, but I hate the way apple have such tight control over it. Im looking at buying an HTC HD7, but haven't used the phone yet. Im just really looking advice from anyone who has used at lenght, or has an Iphone 4, and is moving to Windows Phone 7.
Cheers
Having just moved over from an iPhone 4, I'm in a pretty good position to give you some info.
1. Phone itself is great (I found the iPhone4's screen beautiful, but way too small to be practical for my needs)
2. The WP7 interface is MUCH better than the grid on iOS4, especially the LIVE tiles.
3. WP7 is still pretty locked down, but I can see that changing. If you're on a none jailbroken iP4, there's not much difference.
4. App amount seems to be growing by the day, but as this is a fresh OS there's nothing on it yet compared to the IP4. However, the apps that are on WP7 are awesome. The Facebook app is the best Facebook app on any phone I've used.
5. The execution and intergration of facebook, LIVE, Messenger etc is VERY well done on this phone. If you are a social person, you'll love it.
6. There are some limitations, some of which are annoying and will take some adapting.
Overall, I think the OS-side of things is superior to an untouched iP4's iOS4. It does need work, but the foundations are solid. Apps will come (Especially with the Dev budget MS has thrown at the WP7 platform)
As with all early adapters, you'll experience some frustrating times and a lack of features, so it depends what you're after really.
Thanks for the super fast reply. What are the limitations you talk about? I find the Iphone a Cr&p phone, but pretty good for internet surfing, that is what I do mostly, with a little bit of angry birds thrown in for good measure. The only other program use a lot is Nike plus for tracking runs, but I suppose it didnt take long for Android to have something similar, so I imagine Windows phone 7 will have a similar app soon.

My surfing experience so far has been good. Again, there's no flash or silverlight yet and a lack of HTML 5. However, Adobe have confirmed Flash is coming for WP7, we just need an official statement from MS now....I'm predicting it will be in the Jan 2011 update along with Copy & paste.
Like I say, the apps are popping up fairly quickly to say the least. If you like the occassional game, the HD7 screen real-estate is a big plus there. The quality of the games on WP7 looks very promising indeed (In my opinion, better than iP4 games, and this is Dev's first releases!)
Rovio will no doubt release Angry birds on the platform as well.
As for the tracker, I haven't seen one in the marketplace as of yet, but that's because I've been messing around too much with the Xbox LIVE games
Microsoft don't seem to be as controlling as Apple and so within a few updates you should be more free than if you were using an iPhone.
The fact that HTC & Samsung are making the phones is always a plus as then you have a choice instead of having to pick from one phone.
Defo think im going to give the HTC HD7 a go. Worst case scenario I buy a Ipod touch to use the stuff I was used to. I always adapt early, just sometimes I get frustrated with slow progress. Hope the microsoft app store doesnt go like the palm pre did thought.
How is the screen in comparison ? I am hoping its better than the Evos. I know it won't be as nice as the Vibrants just dont want the washed look.

How MS is going to allow flash when they moved away from ActiveX, and I haven't heard they would want to introduce it - it is by far the easiest transport to deliver spyware, malware and viruses to your device.

has any of you gone from an iphone 4 to HD7?

Ok guys i have an iphone 4 and i'm thinking of getting a HD7 have any of you done that and regretted it? or thought is was the best move ever? i'm on the verge of making the move but obviously it is alot of money if it isn't right...My girlfriend has just got one and i like it..but obviously it isn't mine!!!...
The apps on itunes are just plain overcrowed now and apps is no biggy for me any more...as i have an ipad if need be and obviously windows 7 has MS games which some are good.
what do you think?

No, it's a guide to help you help you migrate. Should you decide that's what you want to do.
yes and i appericiate that thanks...i just wondered if anyone has made the move...i'm stuck whether to keep the phone or not..
Nearly there...
I'm a iPhone 4 32Gb owner since June launch day with a HTC HD7 on it's way to me in the next few days or week (all depending on USPS First Class International Mail!). Once I get it, I will upgrade it with a SanDisk 32GB Class 2 with help with another thread here.
I'm looking forward to the HTC HD7 and I know deep down there will be some things that will niggle me about WP7... however, I just want to have decent notification which WP7 has! Jailbreaking the iPhone has been easy (but the present jailbreak is 'teathered'- urgh!).
I've been using 'Notify Pro' which has been a pain on the iPhone. To be honest, I thought why am I wasting my time with this buggy third party app from Cydia to get something which should be standard in the first place. I'm also impressed how it has so far integrated FaceBook in WP7, but Twitter needs some tweaking I hear.
I most probably miss the 'iPod ecosystem' (docks and car ICE) but hoping the WP7 UI will wow me and the screen size does look great for browsing the Internet and watching media (Use to have a HTC HD2 and loved the screen but not the constant rebooting!).
I'm planning to keep the iPhone 4 and HD7 for a few months... perhaps, Microsoft's upgrade in January might swing it for me finally!

I have had both
they are both excellent
the HD7 has a superior user interface, in that you can switch between a tiled status screen and a list of icons. Its also slicker and cooler (whatever that means )
the larger screen is great. the web browser is slightly slower but it can render some things the iphone browser can't, e.g. go to unlocking.com and try the drop-downs on the iphone ..... I will also be able to do flash at some point, something apple has vowed not to do
its drawbacks are that the app storee has some fun stuff but its small compared to apple. The biggest thing about the WM7 user interface, the active tiles, need to be expanded more. i would like something "HTC sense" like. Obviously we are also waiting for cut & paste in the Jan firmware release.
There is apossibility of expanding the HD7's memory manually as well, as its actually an embedded MicroSD card which many folk have already taken out and replaced with a 32gb one.
thanks alexander for your insight..its just i have had an iphone since 3g, 3gs, 4 and suddenly i thought i need a change i also have had hd2 which i loved..but because of the bugs it had to go..i also have 32gb iphone 4 but one thing is bothering me is "you don't know what you have got until it has gone" i think i will have another go tonight

it depends on the person. the iphone is more compact and more beautiful (although the HT7 is also very nice).
you first need to decide whether you are comfortable with the size of the device.
also, have you purchased many iphone apps ? you might have "buyer remorse" letting these go
i personally continue to use both. I get bored of the iphone very quickly, then the HD7 is more fun. But then I miss my apps so go back to the iphone for a bit ....
If you have no app investment then definitely try out the HD7
Hello,
I have both and to be honest, I don't know which one to advice..... ;-))
Both are great in differents ways, iPhone is iPhone and I have had one since the first model. I have had plenty of Windows mobile device about 15, I guess.
Now, WP7 looks great, integration with Facebook and of course Xbox live...this is THE point.
I love having my Xbox live account with me all the time, having success on my phone when away from home....
On an other side, I'm so used to my iPhone, I have plenty of softwares I know and I like very much....
So, I decieded to keep both for the moment with 2 SIM cards, like this I have the best from both....
To be honest I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab as well and it's so great....
So the best, if you have enought money, is to have one of each... ;-))
Regards,
I went from iPhone 3G S to the HTC HD7 (T-Mobile branded). There's not much I'm missing. Maybe tethering but I'm sure that will soon be fixed. I like not having to convert anymore of my music. I can load the CD and burn it to hard drive and I can play it straight away on the phone. I don't have to convert it to Apple format to make it portable. I like that I can swap the battery too. Couldn't do that with iPhone. There's a few other nuances but that will happen with anything new. That's only one perspective though. Keep watching for the suggestions and feedback.
I have both the iPhone 4 (haven't sold yet) and the HD7 (just got).
I feel like the operating system on the HD7 is so much better than iOS, but that is going to be personal preference, varying with what people want to do, how techy they are, etc.
As far as the actual phones go, I love the HD7. It's not a retina display, but the size is fantastic and colors vibrant.
Honestly, the only things I miss from my iPhone are jailbreak apps. The new windows OS has already been hacked, so it's only a matter of time until I have them again

windows phone 7 my feeling

I have had my LG quantum for about two months now and couldn't be happier. I had an iPhone 4 and had gotten in a car accident and every call I mad to my insurance..... Disconnected I had to use someone BlackBerry who was also on att in order to get the proper assitence. So I sold my iPhone and got a Samsung galaxy s device.... It go so boring switching roms and the atrocious line up of apps in the app store got extremely annoying I couldn't any apps that were even near iPhone quality with being an app that I already owned on the iPhone and being that angry birds was their best game.... Waist of my time and by the way the phone I had was the Samsung captivate.
so windows phone 7 came out and I was like why not. I've tried everything else and was barley satisfied so I got the LG Quantum and boy am I pleased. Yea no copy and paste but the OS is amazingly smooth unlike my captivate and the games are what I look for fun and graphically acceptable. Not stupid jokes I wish the twitter app was better but the xbl integration is a work of art. I think I purchased like 12 games and for the most part I am happy.the OS will continue to develop and improve just like everything else. I remember in 08 when I had my g1 or was it 09.... Anyway I read in an article that the os would die because not enough devices or devs.... Well look at Android now. WP 7 is similar just needs a little support and it will blow up because its an amazing os and I'm using my quantum right now to right this. Smooth and quick. So yea I didn.t know where to write this so I did it here thanks for letting me vent

to me it sounds like ur 1 phone os far from realising theres nothing that would satisfy ur bi**y attitude and the problem is in you , so ur just trying to hold on a lame os which isnt good even by your own judgement(notice the "will"-s , a sign of wishful thinking) your hoping it gets magically perfect a day which isnt gonna happen , and ull utimately be faced by your sad self with your unreasonable standards
No no no u missed the point of my post. Do u own a WP 7? Being that I owned all three phones I can state I like the feel and potential of this OS no Microsoft didn't send me just tired of writers hating on the os but fact of the matter is that its a brand new os let it grow. I read its a dead OS today... How cause its in competition.. Well when Android came out it had to compete with IOS and windows mobile. It did fine so will this u tell me what's wrong with the os

go figure, someone posts something positive about wp7, and the android fanbois come running. I think they search the forum with terms like wp7 and focus.
I love my hd7, facebook integration means I actually check on my friends and family and seismic is a great twitter app. Sounds like IE is getting its own update very soon separate from wp7 updates (according to one of the MS engineers, he said to look for it in between the update coming and mango), and after mango, what will be missing? The only stuff I find annoying is that 3rd party apps can't run in the background yet, so opening links in twitter apps, takes you out of the app and sometimes you lose your place in the timeline.
The multimedia experience on this device has been so much better than winmo or android.

Wp7's UI is different, but I don't think it's beautiful. Besides, Wp7 has been out for a short time, so it has many shortcomings
I have tested it on my Leo for a couple of days and despite it´s nice I decided to go back to WM/Non NAND Android combo which is the best for me.

C'mon man how is it an iPhone wanna be? U sound stupid so any smartphone that takes a simplistic user friendly approach is a smartphone wanna be? Ur an idiot
I am a neutral person.
So before anyone shoots childish insults at me, I don't give a damn about them
In my honest opinion I have had and handled all three of the mobile OS and I believe each has their advantages and disadvantages, as all things in life nothing is perfect.
iOS: Alittle too closed off for my tastes. I enjoy a few of the apps on there but for everyone who says that the Android market has stupid apps...guess what??? SO DOES APPLE! I have seen soo many stupid ass repetitive zombie apps on there I was sick. On top of that it doesn't allow SD support, which is also a personal problem, I don't like that you have to rely on Apple's App store to download and control your apps. Aside from that it is a nice OS if you jailbreak it and mod it yourself.
Windows Mobile: Well, this was my first mobile OS honestly. I enjoyed the ROM support on it but when it came to the app department you needed to have a freaking treasure hunt just to find a decent game haha You could also have a decent amount of customization because you can change the registry and such and whatnot, but it was a lot easier to screw up and have problems with the OS.
Android: I have been using this OS ever since I got my HD2 haha I agree with the retarded apps in the market but it's easy to pick out the good ones from the retarded ones, in my opinion. When it comes to apps as well you can easily download and install an .apk from online or store it on your sd card instead of having to rely on the market to dominate your every move. I also think Android is the best one for customization, with iOS you can't even change your keyboard, you always get the same dull crap, wm is a little better but you can't really adjust your home without adding more programs on top of programs, using more memory than you really should just for one thing. Plus...flash, enough said.
Windows Phone 7: I have seen, touched, played with and borrowed a WP7, I do not like it. I didn't have it in my possession for an entirely large amount of time so I can't say much about it. Yes the WP7 is new and developing still but so was Android, and honestly even when Android matured what happened to it overall? Speed? A little bit of change in the look of it? I do not see too much noticeable change coming from it in the long run, just a few tweaks here or there. Some people call them Iphone wannabes...so do I. I believe that Jobs and Gates wanted to compete to see whose phone can be the most restrictive and simplistic. And again with iPhone as well, with simplicity comes beauty, yes it looks nice, but you can't really do sh*t to it besides adding live tiles...which isn't all that impressive. I believe that the WP7 is basically a Microsoft version of iOS. PLUS! You can't even put a freaking SD card into the phone without taking it apart and having it formatted to your device and losing all of your data on there.
Hate it or love it that is my opinion on these different OSs.

Coming from a WM6 / 6.5 background - at first I found WM7 frustrating. (I've only had the phone a few days).
Initially the whole idea of having ALL contacts in one place completely freaked me out. Then I realised the O/S is sensible enough to only offer phone contacts when messaging / calling. Luckily most of my FB 'friends' haven't added phone contact details - but when they do, I'll be back to being slightly screwed on that front. Having de-duped and linked accounts, things don't seem so bad ... but I still think having overall groupings for contacts would help me in the long run. (I haven't seen what's due in any updates, so it's something that may be coming).
Asides from the Zune-like interface, the one thing that is frustrating me most is the lack of RDP software. I used that a lot on my XDA zest.
Oh, and not supporting custom ring-tones out of the box is annoying too. Like with any MS O/S, you just have to get used to it....
So far though I'm thinking it's working faster / better for me than 6.5 was with few issues, so I'm fairly happy about it.

Never heard of Meego? And you're calling yourself a geek/nerd. GTFO!
i think LG Meego handset will come first before this Nokia N9.
But seriously i m amazed by this Design, first time By Nokia.
As we all know How much hype created during N8 this seems far more better than N8
this will decrease Nokia's Falling reputation.
Best of Luck Nokia.

Meego is an Open Source Project and some developer has already
ported Meego on Nexus One and other devices with snapdragon processor similar to Nexus one .
Its a dead horse, but nokia tries to ride it...
I have to admit that it looks pretty good, too bad it comes out so late.

Agree, but Android won't happen. WP7 on the other hand would be better than MeeGo - much better.

Yeah, WP7 is good. I might even buy a Nokia WP7 when it comes out, just for the lolz...
The problem with Nokia is that it's too stubborn and old fashioned. Good they signed a contract with Microsoft though, at least they have one REAL OS on their smartphones.

The "REAL OS" part made my day.
TBH, it's a breath of fresh air. Kinda love the pentaband 3G radio in the phone.
For the apps. Now where's that alien Dalvik thing.

Methinks that I might consider it if it comes in silver, and Android. It's MeeGo, how hard would it be to flash a new ROM?
I guess it'll be pretty easy. But time will tell!

I completely agree. That was my first thought when watching this video. If it doesn't have an ample amount of apps available to users, it'll go no where even if it is a fantastic phone.
MeeGo doesn't really matter. When the phone comes out, the main question will be "When will somebody put CyanogenMod 7 on it?" Notice I didn't use "how" or even "why". It's a when. And WHEN that floodgate opens... we just might have a bonafide camera phone.

I had a Nokia N900 for a while. Good phone, really good developer community. It's just a shame that they've stuck so firmly to their own OSs for so long. If they're going to go WP7 that's a step in the right direction but android would win them a lot of good favour.

IMO it's much easier to write apps for MeeGo than Android. MeeGo uses the cross-platform (read: porting of desktop KDE apps to the mobile has already started) Qt Framework, which has a really nice API (Qt Mobility espacially for smartphones). It's really a joy to use this toolkit. All your developed applications can run on your desktop OS (Linux, Windows, Mac OS) and on your phones and tablets (Android, MeeGo, iOS port is currently developed..).
I'd love to see a port of this OS to some (more) Android phones. I tried to run it under my Desire HD, but I can't get the software rendering to work.
now i think i got the reason to purchase this phone

HTC ONE - Lag/Stutter fix?

Hi,
I've had some really bad experience with the HTC One and Android overall in the last few years.
Starting with the Samsung Galaxy S, then going through the HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S3, and now HTC One, I've got one thing that really annoys me. The stutter/lag in every single third party apps. I tried doing many things, like enabling 'force gpu rendering', and changing roms, but I could never get rid of that 'lag'. Many people don't see it as a problem, but it is really annoying for me as an iPhone user, where my 4S is extremely fluid and stutter free compared to the One. Now, some people have told me that going from an iPhone to Android will mean that things like this will be apparent for me instantly, and they will annoy me. But I can't believe that this is the case with all Android phones, I mean after all they all cost just as much as iPhone does, so they should work just as well?
I really like android as an operating system, iOS is too closed. So I'd rather not go back to the iPhone for that, but the lag and bad animations bother me so much that I am actually considering returning the One.
So my question is - is there anything I can do to get rid of the stutter/lag ?

Yes Android Does have bug and lag but its getting a lot better compare to 2.0 2.1 2.2 2.3 4.0 4.1 4.2 each update has improved whole OS bit better, but still needs more time to mature but same time İOS or Windows Phone is very limited so i assume more thing to do means more codes and more codes mean more fault. İ have HTC One and İphone 5 but HTC One feels faster than İphone 5 in my eyes but another fact is Android needs more power so maybe next chipsets like S800 or Tegra 4 may make transaction more smoother. Android is not best idea on budget smartphone cos as i said needs more power.
There are a lot of rumours that Android Key Lime Pime will be more smoother and less power hungry need to wait and see but enjoy whole experience of android its free and open its getting better every day
sorry for bad spell etc
As a past user of an iPhone 4s and current user of a HTC one, lag is way more prevalent in the 4s.Examples 1.Open the app store. 2. Switch between apps a couple times. 3. Swipe to the search screen. The one never lags for me. Ever. I'm a pretty intensive user with lots of apps running at once. Not to mention the speed at which the one works compared to the iPhone. It still has awesome animations but does them faster. Seriously you must have some rogue app going crazy in the background or something.

I have the same feeling.
I've owned over 10 android devices and an iPhone 4 and 5, and when I'm on an iPhone I hate that I'm not able to do anything... and while when I'm on an Android phone I LOATHE the constant stutter/lag/inconcistancy.
You can't have your cake and eat it too... I guess.
EDIT: To answer your quesion: no, you can't.
EDIT2: just thought of WebOS, smooth, whith it's modding repositories *starts wheeping*

You need to give some examples of apps, situations which lag or stutter for me Android is pretty fluid (with the exeption of chrome)

hold an iPhone and an android phone side by side, the difference will be noticeble to everyone.
I think the OP is referring to apps that haven't yet been optimized for the 1920x1080 screen of the One and the S4. Animations such as those in Words with Friends look jerky in comparison with the iOS counterpart. It may be something you'll need to learn to live with. With Android phones of all different sizes out there, you're never going to get 100% app compatibility.

Like I said I can' t see any stutter or lag, not in the default apps or sense at least
Well that is what my iFriends say - it stutters!!!!1 How can you not see that???? And yes, sometimes I do see it, and it is annoying.
Some of us are more sensitive, some don't even notice. Most of the time I think it is because of loading content while scrolling. If you open a web page, or any internet dependent app, it will pull new content when you scroll to the end, an then inevitably some time is spent on arranging layout, loading jpegs and so on. iOS does it in advance, and is even making some kind of thumbnails all over system to smooth that out.
Could be wrong, but that is my conclusion so far.

like I said you need to give some specific examples of lag or stutter because I can't see it, not in sense nor in the stock apps. I can see lag and stutter for example in chrome (and new opera) but stock (and opera classic) are smooth, app drawer buttery smooth, settings buttery smooth, whatsapp smooth, blinkfeed smooth
Well I don't know now, really. Trying to forget about it, but name of this thread reminded me again
As I said - internet apps, not in system. Facebook, Engadget, Instagram, Cracked app... almost all third party web apps, not really important ones. It is app design flaw of some kind, you cant see that in system or system apps which are better made. On the bright side, this effect was horrible on LG O2x, which could just confirm my theory - One can load and arrange on-the-fly required data quicker.
It's not hard to understand that this effect is really not what anyone who bought the best Android device at the moment wants to see, no matter who's fault it is. Maybe that is the price we pay for system openness, and if that is the case - not a problem at all.

oh I don' t use any of those apps, mostly the stock ones and google apps and these are all buttery smooth (with the exception of chrome and sometime the play store).
I think these laggy apps all use webkit to draw their UI, webkit will lag the UI when loading, even on a powerful desktop. One of the chrome devs congrateluted opera, when the switched to webkit how fluid they had made opera when presto was still loading, something which they hadn't figured out to do yet
what version of android do you have? i noticed stuttering in third party apps on 4.1.2, but was fixed in 4.2.2
i use tubemate, and it was unusable on 4.1.2, now it works perfectly

I'm currently on stock 4.1.2 from HTC, the European version for the HTC_001. I've also tried the Android Revolution HD 4.2.2, but the problem still persisted. It was better, but still not 'buttery smooth'.
As to when it happens - Sense is largely ok, when swiping through the screens you can't really see any lag. Unless going between the app launcher and the blinkfeed.
But it's mostly other apps, such as even the stock web browser, thet just stutter and lag when on some simple webpages, such as google, full amazon website, my banks, lloyds tsb, and pretty much every single web page is just slow and stutters when scrolling. Not to mention XDA-Developers, because this website is just on another level of stutter. lol
I've tried firefox, chrome, stock browser, and all of them have the same problem.
There are also apps, facebook, even the keyboard lags!
Now, I don't know about you, but I think it's the resolution that causes the problem. I'd rather have lower resolution with say, 300 ppi, which is not really noticeably worse than that of the One, and at the same time have an OS that does not suffer from these problems.
Because in all honesty, the ONE is actually more stuttery than SGS 1 was.. Now, that just can't be right!
I'm still hoping that somebody will come up with something that can fix it.
Because I'm really sensitive about this stuff myself, and love the idea of android at the same time. Not to mention the hardware of ONE.
But when using the phone, it immediately feels cheap and badly made when simple things like that occur on a phone costing as much as a 15 year old car!
So I think it'll be back to the iPhone for now. My contract on it ends in a year, so let's hope Google does some magic with Android, and maybe forces manufacturers to release properly optimized software. But I fear that's just wishful thinking.

You have an interesting way of exaggerating prices. I bought mine from Hong Kong, so maybe mine cost as much as a 14 year old car. Or perhaps a 15 year old car in good condition? Or maybe just within the range of usual Flagship phone prices?
If you're getting stuttering with certain apps, don't use them. Poorly made apps usually have alternatives.
So far, the only big app I'm getting stuttering with is the Chrome/Chrome Beta app. It would be nice if it wasn't there but, thanks to features like data compression saving me roughly 50% on data use, I can look past it. I also get it with the facebook app, but that is such a **** app.
There are probably some other apps I get it with but, to be completely honest, lag and stuttering hasn't been noticeable in my daily use. This phone is fast as hell... Faster even than a 15 year old car. What a deal!

haha!
What I was trying to say, that these phones cost extremely high amounts of money, and yet don't work properly.
I mean, having used Lumia 520 a few weeks ago for a few days, I can safely say that I would recommend that over the One, simply on the 'niceness of use'. And that phone costs £100 in the UK.. One costs over £450 at the cheapest.
As to the apps - I get that, but if you read my post, you'd know that I mentioned all of the popular apps, I try to stay away from the lesser known developers, as they tend not to do so much testing on their apps, and thus providing a terrible experience most of the time (not so much on iOS, as Apple does a lot of testing before they put the app up on the market, something that would be nice to have on android too).

some sites lag in some browsers some sites in all, some sites even lag on my powerful core i5 laptop running windows 8, sometimes it' s bug in the browser, sometimes a bug in the website. I'll bet you you will come across laggy sites on the iphone too. XDA is buttery smooth for me though (at least the forum, which I always watch in compact view and I hated the contextual search so I disabled that in forum preferences)
Honestly I've used android from the start back when the g1 was released. Going from that to the g2 now the HTC one. Even on my g2 on some Roms I barley had lag issues now on the one I don't see any stutter or lag or slow downs.. But I guess that's just me.

I guess we can both be happy that are devices aren't as bad as the OP
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
I don't think it's a problem with my particular device though.
I've watched many reviews online, and the very same things that happened on my device were happening on those being reviewed.
Things like:
When browsing google images, you open one image and then swipe to look at the next one, htc one starts to render an animation and then 1/4th of the way just stutters to the picture. On the iPhone it's just a nice, fluid animation.
Another, the original keyboard is rather bad, you press a key, and the pop up with letter comes on, you depress the key and the preview is still there for at least half a second.
Also, a more general one - when you install something from the play store and try to browse for another app on it at the same time - it stutters beyond belief.
And sense one - where are the animations when closing an app/window? I feel like using windows Vista on a 2005 pc with 1gb ram..
It's very small things, but they do not happen on the iPhone, and I just feel like the experience is more pleasurable and consistent on iOS. Not to mention WP, which is even faster than iOS in my opinion.
The iPhone and WP may not be faster hardware wise, or performance wise even, but the animation, and transitions between doing things are just incredibly badly implemented on Android.
I'd rather see it being done like on the iPhone - when the phone is installing or doing something in the background, that action stops when you try and use the phone. That way, it may perform worse, and install the app slower, but the experience is really good, and no stutter occurs. Whereas android sort of tries to do everything at the same time.
But again, that may be just me being very bothered about things like this, most people don't see it as a problem, but it annoys the hell out of me, hence this thread. I was hoping that there is some tweak for the One that makes the experience more pleasurable whilst maybe decreasing the performance a little.
