I have Nokia 920 and also a HTC 8x
I have just noticed on both devices that I can't post "status updates" on the Windows live account using the "ME Card". On the account list there are "Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn" only, windows Live accounts are missing.
Any one else ?
On my "old" wp7 I can do this..
Thanks

Probably something to do with the recent news that Microsoft are retiring MSN Messenger in favour of Skype - I would assume that related Live services will shortly follow.

Apparently, you are supposed to be able to add Yahoo contacts to Live Messenger and vice versa. However, Live Messenger won't accept Yahoo contacts. I'm using Windows Live in Dutty's 6.1 Hybrid, which I believe is the latest Windows Live version.
Has this functionality been added to Live Messenger for Mobile yet or is it coming in an update? Or am I doing something wrong?

Use a windows client to add a 'cross user', yahoo or WLM. Both need to be V8+ for adding each others users.
Devtone Hello!
Encountered the same problem. Can you describe in detail, with examples, the solution to this problem.
Thanks!
Has anyone gotten the premium services on the new myphone to work. i tried the ring function but, it seems to work cause my phone lights up to signal sumthin is about to come in but the phone never rings. it looks like you can only get a location at the exact moment with the premium service otherwise its the location where u last synced which seems useless
Guys please clearify this for me:
Is the content from MyPhone available to apply/download to any other, new device I sync with that?
Let's say I buy X2 and sync with MyPhone: will I be able to get all of my contacts calendar sms etc. from the cloud to a new device?!

Yes. That is how I have been using the program. You'd be able to have the exact same messages/contacts and such between both phones as you sync through the same account.

Ok so that makes sense......
I find that I can search in people for a person's first name or surname, but I cannot search, for example for a company. Does anyone have a way of doing this, or is this another shortcoming in Phone 7?

have you tried going into you contact and linking all the duplicates together. for instance if i have a contact in facebook AND my contacts, i have them linked together.
I've just gone through my contacts linking them and it sure as hell cleans them up.
I selected it so it only showed contacts from Facebook I have details for already on the phone too, then went and linked all of their accounts...
Have to say, very impressed with how it looks once you've done that. It will allow you to sync your LIVE contacts as well...
out of the box, it's messy but once it's configured it looks great.
What really annoys me is the fact it seems impossible to remove an email account with re-setting the phone, now that is a FAIL! - if anyone knows if it is possible, please do let me know!

hey xma1e
I've cleaned up the list, however, I still have people on the list I don't really want.
1 ) I have my sim card contacts which I have linked facebook and hotmail with (perfect)
2) I have contacts from my hotmail contacts list which I dont want to show
On point 2. how do I remove Hotmail contacts from the people hub....I just dont want people from my HOTMAIL contact list appear. If you owned a HD2 , you would have the option to sync or not sync hotmail contacts which was PERFECT ! , on the WP7 OS you have no option unless you know how to resolve it

I cant find a way to do this either. You have the option to disable contact syncing for gmail, but when you go into the email and accounts settings for windows live, it only gives you the option to disable the syncing of email. I dont want my contact list full of s*** from windows live.

As far as I know, you cannot do this. The way Windows Phone 7 handles contact management is different than Windows Mobile 6.x. Windows Mobile 6.x and Windows Live (Hotmail) are separate components, so you could choose to not sync certain information if you wanted to (or remove Windows Live completely even).
Because Windows Live (Hotmail) is so tightly integrated with Windows Phone 7, it assumes that whatever Windows Live account you chose to apply to your WP7 device is your main account for your information (e-mail, contacts, calendar, etc.). So of course, because it assumes this, it's only natural that you'd want to always see and sync your contact list from Hotmail.
The only way around this at the moment would be to delete your contacts entirely from your current Windows Live account, or to link your phone with a new, empty Windows Live account that doesn't have any contact information (this would allow you to maintain your other account separately).
HTC HD7 with WM7 - there is no provision to synchronise with microsoft outlook using Activesync or Windows Mobile Device Centre.
Alternate way of using Exchange Activesync does look complicated
Please address the issue
This has been Answered
There are some workarounds & a 3rd party app, the solutions have been posted and can be easily found with a simple search (here is a hint, CompanionLink for outlook, Windows Live Connector, Gmail Sync). This is a very hot issue and I suspect there will be more solutions forthcomming
Cheers

My Milage
I tried the Hotmail connector, I had some issues, it seemed to have problems dealing with more than 250 contacts. I am using the Demo version of CompanionLink and syncing to my gmail acct and that is working very nicely.
cheers

I followed method two from the two ways to sync and worked just fine. I kind of like getting away from Outlook anyway. Hotmail/Windows Live is great since it can used through any computer contected to the internet to update contacts, phone numbers, etc. But I could see if this is an issue if you primarily use Outlook.

The problem I have is my company isn't running Exchange so for me to get my calendar and contacts I need a way to sync with Outlook.
I've tried Hotmail Connector and it works well for a one time sync but if you have a lot of changes to your calendar I have to make the changes in Outlook and Hotmail.
I refuse to pay $40 for something that should work out of the box.

Unfortunately, both are cloud solutions, which are unacceptable to me for both security and privacy.
If the WM7 device were seen as an external storage device (apparently doable via the registry), does anyone know whether this could faciliate a direct USB sync with Outlook 2010 32-bit?
Both solutions are OK for a one off copy of Calender & Contacts but do not perform a true contniuous Sync with Outlook and do not handle TASKS

if you are not ready to play with the cloud, I don't think wp7 is for you. They seem very serious about making the cloud an integral part of the OS going forward.

no microsoft myphone. All syncing goes through your live email address (like hotmail). For me, I had all my contact info on gmail because of playing on android with my hd2.
1. Logged into hotmail
2. clicked on import contacts under the contacts view
3. Clicked on gmail and followed the instructions
Took about 10 minutes.
For outlook I'm pretty sure you can do something similar, though I think you might need outlook connector from the marketplace to bridge it over from outlook to hotmail. You will only have to do this once, but then I guess your outlook will not be a syncable acct on you phone.
Just looked on my hotmail and it says to export your outlook contacts to a file that you can then upload to hotmail.
I'm a Windows Mobile User for 2 years now (SE Xperia X1) and loved the way I can sync it with outlook.
I have all my contacts (approx 500) in outlook and also use the calendar (+5000 items)
I've spent some time in the past to get the info on my contacts straight and I'm very disappointed about the lack of synchronisation options between WP7 and outlook.
Why does everything needs to be cloud-based.
I don't sync every day, but neither use outlook on everyday basis.
I never experienced syncing problems on either calender/notes/contacts or mail.
I have read something about features that will be added in the near future into WP7 and hope that local outlook synchronisation is one of them.
Hi guys,
I`m new to WM7 and i`m trying t sync my contacts as well. I don`t use Outlook and idon`t have an account. Is there any other way to get my contacts on te phone?
Thanks
So the windows 7 software allows syncing to google calender, email and contacts?
I'm stunned that there is no native support for Outlook synchronization with Exchange - this is old school and what I consider a core component of any smartphone I purchase.
I've just bought a HD7 assuming it would have this functionality (why would I check for this on a Windows phone, next I'll need to check the thing makes calls), guess I'm going to have to sell it on.
There maybe Third party solutions but I can't imagine they're ever going to work as well as a direct sync with the Exchange server in my office, giving Contacts, Tasks, Calendar Items, etc.
Absolutely gutted.
B
Of course there's native support.
If you have an exchange server, you have ZERO to worry about.
The issue is people who use Outlook for Pop and Imap. Or people who just use it for tasks and contacts. Without a Hotmail Connector, there is no way to interface with Outlook like the old school Active Sync did.
Again though, If you have Exchange, it works exactly like it does on any other platform, if not better. The only thing lacking right now is Tasks.
Jimbonics,
I could kiss you. My wife wouldn't like it (and neither would you most likely, I'm stubbly)
I've been reading phone forums, reviews and specs for what seems like months trying to choose the right phone (offline voice command via bluetooth is essential for me but Android doesn't do it and other devices have flaky support) so I skim read this thread: my bad.
Thanks for making my day.

I don't believe you can remove them. All you can do is delete the contacts so they don't show up on the phone (if you only use the Gmail or Outlook contacts). Removing them from your Live contacts will also remove them from you messenger contacts, so keep that in mind.
I believe Ms has copied this from google . so the only option is I guess you delete them in your live account or delete the live account under setting which of course will affect your market accessibility.
or better still make a new live account with no contacts
um how did
you even get your windows live contacts on the phone? i synced my contacts to windows live from myphone winmo 6.5.x then got my hd7 signed in with my windows live no contacts appeared, then signed in with my gmail account and it pulled my contacts from my gmail.

Whatever Windows Live ID you enter as the first/primary one will automatically sync with your Contacts (store in your Hotmail/Contacts account) and Calendar (stored in your Windows Live Calendar) account. There is no choice, as this is how it works. The phone assumes the first Windows Live ID you enter is your primary means of communication, therefore will automatically sync all that information to your phone.
To remove those contacts from your phone, you would delete them from your Contacts and/or Hotmail account and it will reflect the changes across all of Windows Live. This includes Windows Live Messenger.

The Microsoft MyPhone contacts are not part of Windows Live and therefore will not sync with your Windows Phone 7 device since MyPhone is not available for the platform and incompatible.
If you log in with your windows live account, WP7 will automatically use those contacts. This is by default and not changable.
Yeah you can probably delete them...or create a bogus account that has no contacts, etc., but the premise is still the same....first WL account gets the calendar and contacts sync'd automatically
Here it is what you have to do when you want to receive your hotmail e-mails but not sync hotmail contacts, in otherword to Exclude windows live contacts....
SETTINGS > ADD AN ACCOUNT > OTHER ACCOUNT > Then just type your hotmail adress and the password.
That`s it, the HD7 is only syncing E-mail !!!! all hotmail (windows live) contacts are NOT synched !!!!!
DO NOT USE "WINDOWS LIVE" option !!!!! when adding a new e-mail !!!
