[Q] .thumbnails folder in DCIM - LG Optimus 4X HD

The thumbnails folder under DCIM consumes a lot of memory, why is it so big? Also is there a way from preventing it to be generated? Thanks.

3.99GB WTF have you got on your phone? I don't believe you can stop it generating thumbnails - I wouldn't want to as it would mean that ... you would have no thumbnails in any of your apps where you want to see what your graphics are etc.
Mine is 224MB and I have a LOT of pictures/photos on my 4X, so I really don't know how yours has got so big. Simply delete all the files in there and let it self-populate again. If it gets that big then check the files out, see how many there are and why so big - your stats there indicate the the average file is 40MB in size - which is quite clearly NOT a thumbnail.

Yeah, actually the "actual" thumbnail is small in size, but there are two files that made it reach up 4GB... I already deleted it though. I don't know if I can reproduce that again. We'll see...
Edit:
Ok it actually generated again. This time it's smaller and it's only one file. This is what's inside the .thumbnails folder
Edit2:
This time it appeared again.. The two files...

I also have this big files:

And i 6gb in .thumbnails -_____-
Any idea to move it to external sd?

It seems to regenerate even after being deleted...

You guys are using something that I don't? My DCIM folder is empty... I use Internet, games, GPS... From where are those thumbnail coming?

As stated above, the folder is normally hidden. This is done by making the first character of the name a '.' (fullstop) as Linux uses for hidden files. You need to be running a file explorer such as Solid Explorer or ES which allows you to make 'hidden' files visible.

And how do you think I check that?
Edited:
You're right @SimonTS, last time I flash I didn't tick the "hidden files" on the explorer...
Now I can see the folder, the biggest have 26.96MB (.thumbdata3-xxxxxxxx) the other (.thumbdata3-yyyyyyyyyyyy) have only 374KB.
Hummmm... don't like that...

Problem now is how do we get rid of it...
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app

To get rid of it is easy, just delete it. But when we open any media folder, the system creates it again. It's like a ghost for the thumbnails, I guess...

[SOLVED] Reduced quality of transferred images!

After I transferred some .jpg files from my PC to my X8 I noticed a HUGE reduction of their quality. For example, gradients! In my pc they look OK, but after transferring them to my phone, there was very noticeable gradient banding. They were horrible in so many ways. Every gradient looked like crap!
Has anyone else noticed this? Any fix?

are you using android gallery? if yes, you will see that huge reduction of quality, specially the background gradients because that gallery downsizes them.
try another gallery app, in SE 2.1 Album gallery that problem does not exist
So if I use a file manager, that won't happen? Let me check...
Edit: I must still open them with the gallery app. Is there any equivalent app on the market?

My question is, now that we have root access, how to modify the SO?...
I tried to delete some files with "Root Explorer" but the files permissions didn't allowed me...

1. Also freeze on screen phone.
2. Get DroidWall from play store (free) and block Gallery on both wifi and 3g
3. Get any cpu control app like SetCpu and set screen off to interactive 51-450 and rest everything to ondemand at 51-1200
You should see good improvement in battery. At least i did.

A small idea that i'd like to see come to life

I just had a thought...it would be cool to be able to title your screens. A screen could become one big folder of apps as such.
I think it would be handy then to use the notification center to select different titles (screens).
Another idea is to use notification center to quickly access a certain folder quickly.
Not sure if these are good or bad ideas or even if they have been made. Let me know what you think...

Are you talking about titling your home screens? Maybe you could create a custom text widget and have it take up 1x4 spacing? :good:

You might take a look at this project: github.com/hanwen/go-mtpfs it's a command line tool to mount MTP devices.
It is developed for Linux, but I have confirmed it worked well on OS X too, you need to osxfuse, Go compiler and libusb in your system to get it work, all of them can be installed through Homebrew, so there is nothing complicated at all.

[Q] What Happened to the small app Notes?

I don't have the small app "notes", which was the most useful small app on my Xperia ZR. Anybody have it? I can't find it in the Play store.
Nope, I just looked for it. Not in the phone and not in Google play
Sent from my D5803 using XDA Free mobile app
What you can do alternatively is use Google Keep and create a small app from one of its widgets. It would work with other third party notes apps as well I guess.
Although it seems like it will switch to the full app as soon as you try to edit or add a note.
I miss this app too... Anyone can port it for Z3C please?

Well if you can find a notes app that has a widget in which you can type directly, then that would work well as a small app.
