I have a new vivid ( Canada bell) upgraded to ics, stock, not rooted
also unlocked
I am travelling and have a local SIM in the phone with mobile data turned off . This problem is with the cell network not data or WiFi
the local network (hsdpa) is spotty in the mountains
the phone sometimes loses signal and doesn't recover even when my girlfriend's iPhone has full bars
I have to go to airplane mode and back to recover
I had a Samsung galaxy gio before with similar issues on gingerbread
is this a general android problem?

Hi,
I have flashed via Odin all the previous and the most recent stock firmwares of galaxy s(international version GT-I9000).I have even upgraded my galaxy s running android 2.1 to 2.2 officially via kies.
But the phone is stuck with one problem in all the cases.
The auto mode doesn't select the 3G/HSPA and instead selects EGDE/GPRS(both networks have good reception). To get 3G/HSPA I have to switch to WCDMA only mode first and then revert back to GSM/WCDMA auto mode. That's the only way to get to 3G/HSDPA signal.
I am using BSNL 3G connection.
I have seen a few topics which relate closely to this case but none of them have been solved. Please help.
You must be patient, because sometime need more time for selecting 3G/HSPA in automode...Time to time more than 1-2 minute. I think it is network related, because provider sometime make service on Base Stations on the network...
Regards
I am on jvk and its working fine on airtel
Sent from my GT-I9000 on JVK

Hi miro666,
Currently my SGS is running official Froyo(2.2) and it has the correct modem and CSC.The APN and all other user setting are correct.I have waited for it to switch to auto mode for more than 5-10 minutes and only by manual intervention it immediately switches to 3G/HSPA.Prior to flashing it worked flawlessly and would automatically make a switch but not now, after I have flashed it with all the android versions.
I switched the SIM to my LG Optimus P500 to check whether it is an issue with service provider or not but LOL...it's working absolutely fine on Optimus.
I guess something is wrong with my Galaxy S.
Backup data and factory reset is always the first step .
jje
I have already done factory data reset a couple of times. Also I have entirely flashed different android version but the problem still continues to irritate me.
While tinkering with the phone ,I learned one more way to switch to 3G signal data i.e. toggling the flight mode.Once switching back to signal data after flight mode, the phone automatically connects to 3G/HSPA signalling 3G/H in the notification bar.
I am clueless as what could be the reason?
Hi
I have a strange problem with my Incredible S, seems impossible to browse or make any data connection using EDGE. One of the arrows near E symbol (upload) activated regularly when needed by data connection but the other one (download) is always gray inactive. The browser remains stalled for some time but at the end the standard "no internet connection" page appear. In some cases the connection, after the stall period, switch automatically to GPRS which function normally. The phone operates perfectly on 3G as on GPRS but never on EDGE. I tried from hard reset to the latest firmware update but the situation remains the same. After my last update using "RUU_Vivo_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.30.405.1_Radio_20.2808.30.085AU_3805.06.03.03_M_release_199308_sign ed" I actually have radio 20.2808.30.085AU_3805.06.03.03_M.
I'm unable to change my situation and haven't found anyone else with the same problem (someone is having problems with EDGE but only on roaming, but I have problems on my home network??).
1) which country and carrier you are using your Incredible s?
2) which model you have? s710e or S710a?

s710e.
Country: Albania
Carrier: Vodafone - 3G ok, GRPS ok, EDGE no.
Carrier: Albanian Mobile Comunications - GPRS ok, EDGE no.
Carrier: Eagle Mobile - GPRS ok, EDGE no.
I tried all these operator using approprite SIM cards.
Also tried a SIM card of Vodafone UK, but the result is the same.
I actually didn't think it was possible to use internet when you signal is EDGE.
Data up arrow and no down arrow, along with stalled internet happens at least 50% of the time on gprs and edge for me whenever the signal is less than 4 bars, but no problem on 3g or WiFi. I have heard other people report the same issue. I have been through all radios, but none of them fix this issue. I'm with UK Vodafone.

yes, I have been in such situations before, but at the end the connection was made. with incredible s there is no edge connection. I have tested with my other phone (HTC sensation) on the same table, on the same time, activating only gprs/edge without success on Inc s, but normally on sensation.
no way ...!!!
Hi,
I never test with 3G SM before with my phone.
I have changed my Vodafone plan to 3G and started using it.The SIM is working fine with 3G in my old mobile (Sony Ercsson).
When I put the SIM i my HTC it is not detecting 3G Network. If I choose GSM/WCDMA it is selecting the 2G Network and for WCDMA Only option
it is not showing any network.
Please note I am having the HTC mobile fro HTC Hongkong and now using the same in India.
Operator: Vodafone
Activity Performed:
Restart the phone and put off the battery multiple time
Factory Reset
Use another 3G SIM which is also workng in my old phone
Toggling between flight mode and WCDMA.
Results:
Just received the 3G network twice and it was sustained for 20 minutes and so.
Please note I am having good 3G Coverage in my locality and with my old phoe it always come full signal.
It happens some time
I have to disable / enable 3G to make it works.

thought it was due to the kitkat rom .....
Even I am facing the Same issue!!!
Not able to connect 3g and h... Please provide any solution for this!!!
I have an unlocked At&T Samsung Note 3 (N900A), that is currently having problems with strong connections to T-mobile networks.
It does occasionally connect to the network but it has a constant drop off and unbelievable slowness when out calling. The averages 2 bars out of the 5, and the system barely even connects to data (but when it does it is 4G LTE, usually when standing still or near a cell tower)
I have set the APN according to t-mobile's instructions (for the N900T) support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-27711
I am currently limited to an original T-Mobile Prism (3G) at the moment, and I really want to start using this phone as my daily driver, but if I cannot have even working calls, whats the point.
Does anyone have any solution to increase the connection fidelity? I really want to start using this phone as my daily driver, but if I cannot have even working calls, whats the point.

Might be the network don't like the N900a as I'm on Metropcs with my N900a and signal is bad too. I have tried different APN settings with no luck. I have tried stock NC2 Rom and rooted and currently on [ROM]AryaMod V8.3 TW Lollipop For ATT [Port] and no better signal. I'm only quarter mile from cell tower.
Hi All,
Disclaimer: Newbie.
During December I updated my N920I via OTA. Since this update my phone constantly has network drop outs, no 3G or 4G. If I force 2G it will sometimes work albeit very slowly.
Steps taken:
Simcard Replacement
Factory Reset
Manual Flash (N920IDVU3BPL2) via Odin
Prior to this update the phone was working fine with build N920IDVU3BPJ3.
I downloaded the N920IDVU3BPJ3 Optus specific image from Sammobile and tried deploying it using Odin however I received the "SYSTEM REV CHECK FAIL DEVICE 1 BINARY 0" error. From what I have read it means that I have a locked bootloader?
I have been advised by Samsung that I am unable to downgrade? (I assume you can if you trip Knox)
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I haven't had a properly working phone since Boxing day
Thanks heaps
4g/LTE not working on N920I
Same here:
LTE was working fine on my N920I out of the box, but suddenly I observed that its only connecting 3G or 2G but not 4G. I thought that it may be custom rom issue.
I have installed Australia fimware through Samsung Kies. But it did not work.
Now I have manually installed Singapore firmware through ODIN
I have cleared internal storage and factory reset the phone
Upon forcing 4G only mode, the phone does not get signals and gets hot
I have tried inserting my sim to S7 and it quickly got connected to 4G, but 3G does not get connected to my phone
I have also contacted my carrier and they say everything is working fine
I have checked APN settings with carrier as well
I dont know what to do. Does this mean that my phone has some modem hardware issue which has broken modem due to overheat or bad code or something.

Not possible since the S7 worked! Sounds like you need a new SIM card that's all.. Or you can try changing the settings again by going to Settings>Mobile Network>Network Mode and see what it's on..

I have changed Network Mode to 2G only, 3G only, 3g/2G (auto connect), LTE/3G/2G (auto connect) modes one by one after your suggestion but phone is only working on 2G and 3G not LTE.
Earlier I was having N920IDVU2BPG3_N920IXSA2BPG3_N920IDVU2BPG3_HOME.tar firmware but now since I have installed the latest N920IDVU3BPL2_N920IXSA3BPL2_N920IDVU3BPL2_HOME.tar so now I cannot go back to N920IDVU2BPG3 anymore and I get error:
sw rev check fail device 3 binary 2 in odin.
Does this has anything to do with firmware or my Modem chip is faulty due to overheat or anything?

Hello,
same thing happened with my 9208 duos...
it happened some 3 weeks ago and only happened after my phone downloaded some updates..
carrier, sim all is good... issue is with phone software... and forcing it on lte only ends up having no signals..
Biggest prob is that it aint allowing to downgrade to another firmware with odin even...
ps. i dont think overheating of modem would restrict us to H & H+... if it was fried i guess there wont be any data at all...
if you are able to find a solution dont forget to let me know...
thanks

Hello, I''''ve a Galaxy Note5 N920I which wasn''''t bought from Saudi Arabia. My phone doesn''''t connect to 4G at all and at best even if it connects to 3G the connection is pretty much slow, even the Dial-Up calls are not stable and _quotlaggy_quot. I''''ve noticed that whenever I change the data connection to 4G network the device gets considerably hot at the power button side. All of this happened suddenly without any prompt about 3 days ago... I''''ve already tried changing the SIM card and testing it on other mobiles and the SIM worked just fine, also tried to change the APN and network settings but nothing worked. I am really concerned about the idea that the device might explode at any moment.
I have the same problem, my device N920I which I didn't buy from Saudi Arabia but I live there. Samsung S.A didn't help me out but rather than that they told me to contact with Samsung's branch in the country I bought the device from.
At the current situation, I have no choice other than waiting the device to explode maybe.
I regret that I didn't choose Apple's iPhone actually, as they would help me out without such irresponsibility.
Anyway, I am waiting for your assistance.
Any updates on this issue its getting worse day by day! Its summer here and i cant even touch my phone its becoming so hot.
