N900A having connection problems on T-mobile - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an unlocked At&T Samsung Note 3 (N900A), that is currently having problems with strong connections to T-mobile networks.
It does occasionally connect to the network but it has a constant drop off and unbelievable slowness when out calling. The averages 2 bars out of the 5, and the system barely even connects to data (but when it does it is 4G LTE, usually when standing still or near a cell tower)
I have set the APN according to t-mobile's instructions (for the N900T) support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-27711
I am currently limited to an original T-Mobile Prism (3G) at the moment, and I really want to start using this phone as my daily driver, but if I cannot have even working calls, whats the point.
Does anyone have any solution to increase the connection fidelity? I really want to start using this phone as my daily driver, but if I cannot have even working calls, whats the point.

Might be the network don't like the N900a as I'm on Metropcs with my N900a and signal is bad too. I have tried different APN settings with no luck. I have tried stock NC2 Rom and rooted and currently on [ROM]AryaMod V8.3 TW Lollipop For ATT [Port] and no better signal. I'm only quarter mile from cell tower.

[Q] Data on Rogers network

Edit: not sure if this is a switching problem or the way the phone is designed, but sort of figured it out...seems that the Exhibit 4G will auto fallback to UMTS when no HSDPA link is active. Just ran some speed tests and it did in fact hold HSDPA speeds, when done it fell back to UMTS. My GS3 doesn't do this...if I have 4G/ LTE available, it stays with it. Hence the confusion.
I recently purchased a new unlocked Exhibit 4G, have been testing the various roms here...many thanks to the devs...great work! Currently trying AOIP...nice!
My primary usage is on the TMO network, at my RV site on weekends. Unfortunately, 2G is the best I can get in my location, regardless of carrier.
I live in Canada the rest of the time, on Rogers with a GS3.
I was testing out the Exhibit 4G with my Rogers sim, LTE APN's were set up ok, voice & messaging are fine, but data is wonky...I will get the 'H' (aka 4G) icon for a few seconds at a time, but for some reason I keep falling back to 3G speeds. This cycle continues over and over. AFAIK, this phone should support Rogers HPSA+ frequencies (aside from their new 2600), shouldn't it?
So I'm wondering if this is due to an incompatibility with the phone on Rogers, or needing a different baseband, or could the phone's h/w be screwy? This has been happening with all roms I have tried (AOIP, Baked, Slim).
Appreciate any insight.

[Q] Verizon Network Extender Issues

Anyone else with a Nexus 6 on Verizon using a network extender? It works fine for voice. However, I cannot get a data connection through the extender. I assume its an APN issue. All other Verizon phones are getting data fine through the extender.
Ideas?
Thanks!
I don't think mine is connecting at all to the extender at work. There is no icon change.
It works for voice. I get the beeping before a call. But it is not utilizing the extender for data. Its killing me because I'm in a fringe area for coverage and its killing my battery.
I'm running cm12 and whenever I connect to a network extender I loose LTE after I connect back to the network directly. I have to backup, flash stock ROM, let the phone activate then restore my twrp backup. Major PITA...
Sorry for resurrecting this thread, but has anyone found any resolutions to this issue?
I'm right at the edge of 3 towers, without my extender, I can barely text... Don't get me started on MMS... I will often miss calls also.
According to the Network Signal Info app, I'm always connected to the extender, but I get very weak signal. I rarely get 3G, if I do, it's even more rare for me to get data despite it showing 3G.
Usually it's 1x that eventually connects where I get data.
Sure, I can use WiFi, but text and especially MMS are issues. Who knows if I'm missing calls also...
Hopefully the Verizon firmware/radio files will work better when Verizon eventually releases it?
Try setting your phone to 3g instead of lte. Should jump on the extender for data. On mine it won't switch automatically.

I did try that a few times, I haven't went too in depth with that. But if I recall correctly, changing that setting just left a "!" in the signal bars, no data. How's your signal strength on the extender?
It's half way up the triangle. Orange on the signal strength under battery. But it works.

That doesn't work for me. 3G is HSPA on the N6, not EvDo like the extender requires. My workaround is connecting at home via wifi, then switching data to 1X. That solves calling, data, and SMS/MMS issues.
From what I've read in other posts regarding Verizon extenders, they are only for basic text and calls, NOT Data. Call Verizon support to confirm if you want a definite answer though.

Not true. It does data fine at both 1x and EvDo 3g. As I said, problem is, the N6 doesn't appear to work with 3g EvDo data.

Correct. I've had my extender since 2011. Without data, MMS as well as certain other Verizon features would not function.
EV-DO working now!

I just flashed the Android 5.1 radio on my 5.0.2 ROM running Chroma.
I can confirm that EV-DO Rev. A works now on the Verizon Network Extender.
When I have the network mode set to Global or LTE it keeps falling off 3G. I've set the network mode to 3G and it has stuck for a solid 30 minutes now.
Hopefully the stock 5.1 ROM will fix the 3G issue in LTE or Global modes, so it doesn't try to connect to the weak outside signals. But at least we get EV-DO now instead of just 1x!

Bought my N6 from Motorola around February.
Dialing #48 tells me I'm under network extender coverage.

hmm, thanks, no 3G option in my preferred network types on the stock rom.
I wonder if the network extenders actually validate the IMEI and that's why its not working. It worked on my old XT926.
I also have been fighting with this since getting my Nexus 6 last week...they say dial *48 and it will tell you if you are under extender coverage...which I am, yet a tier 4 tech tries to call me and it goes direct to vm.
I have changed units...still same....frustrated as heck.
I'm confused. If you have a network extender, you have Wi-Fi within the same range as the network extender. Why would you want to use 3G for data instead of Wi-Fi? Even the slowest Wi-Fi would be better than 3G data.

2 questions (radio baseband and Wifi Calling)

I have installed the Android M radio (currently using) and i have used the 5.1.1 radio. I haven't noticed much of a difference.
In my apartment when i had a Samsung Galaxy Mega i527 I was able to get LTe in my apartment, but with the nexus 6 it jumps between H+ and 3G.
what would the best radio be for me to use? (or are none of the radios as strong as the Samsung Radio?)
other thing i want to know is about wifi calling.
when i am at home I do have WIFI (2.4ghz and 5ghz). on either network i dont really get Wifi Calling to work. it showed up once or twice but not all that much.. im not sure why.

For me, re the Samsung radios in general, they have always had the worst reception. I have the M2 radio, use AT&T and definitely have better reception than all of my prior Samsung phones. Not sure of a different radio would be better for you and your N6.
Best would be trial and error. What's best for me, may not be best for you.
I can't comment on wifi calling because you didn't list any other specs.
I will download the radios and see which one give me the best results. I'm in alittle dense area , but my galaxy mega would give me LTE at home but the nexus 6 isn't so idk..
as far as wifi calling goes.
here are the specs I can give.
Tmobile Network
Euphoria OS (I have seen it say "TMobile Wifi Calling" I the drop down nav barbefore. but its not consitant)
Settings > More > Wifi calling > turned on and set to 'Wifi preferred'. When at home connected to wifi, this setting should show T-Mobile WiFi Calling in the settings pulldown menu. If the setting is for Cellular preferred it will show that.
Also do a reboot after changing that stuff.

Radio/Baseband issue on ProjectFi

I've been a ProjectFi user for a few months now, and I love it. But I have one odd issue. I've updated to a Marshmallow ROM and installed the latest Radio as needed to properly activate Fi, and I get great signal of I'm in an area with LTE, but as soon as I'm in an area with no LTE I get no signal at all. No voice or data service, the phone just flat out says no service. Where on Lollipop, I had no problem picking up a 3G or 2G connection so I could at least make a phone call or send a text.
If I flash an older Lollipop Radio, my signal is restored, and I'll pickup 3G and 2G in areas where that's all there is (I'm in a very rural section of upstate NY).
I've tried flashing a couple of different Marshmallow based radios and sometimes one will work for a little bit, but then cut back to no service if there is no LTE.
Can someone shed some light on this issue? Why do the newer radios seem to pick up less coverage than the older ones?
I do get a better LTE signal with the newer radios, but it's not worth losing the rest of my coverage.

Have you tried a few dialer codes to see if they make a difference yet?

[Q] t-mobile note4 with att sim not working on att microcell

My ATT microcell does not work with my t-mobile note 4, using my ATT sim.
Looking for anyone else in the same boat as me.
I purchased the t-mobile note 4 a few days ago to get back into playing with ROMs.
I put my ATT sim from my Galaxy s5 into my t-mobile not 4.
It is not working properly on ATT microcell.
The behavior is, signal goes 5 bars for a few minutes, then no signal and have to reboot phone to get signal.
I will call ATT today about it.
I searched this forum, and only found this thread which I replied to.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-tmobile/help/lte-t-mobile-note-4-att-service-t3002126/page4
I finished a chat with AT&T live chat, and they just suggested to check APN settings which were already correct. I ask the ATT support person if they had any notes in their database about customers having problem on ATT microcell with other carrier's unlocked devices, but the support person said they could not find anything. So I guess I will wait and see if anyone replies to this thread, but I might have to just sell this t-mobile note 4 and get an AT&T device. But I will keep the thread open.
Just some more info.
I found that if I unplug my microcell, I still had a lot of problems connecting to my nearest tower ( very weak signal, 2 bars, which is normal for where I live. ).
But after 15 minutes or so, the note 4 totally disconnects.
Have to reboot to get it to re-connect.
I'm running 5.1.1 by the way.
What I then found is a bit interesting, if I turn off my WiFi, forcing the device to use it's 4G LTE connection, my signal strength goes up to about 3 bars, and no more disconnects!
