install clockworkmod and directly install any custom rom it may help you to get direct root without backing up apps

Hi this happens when you try to apply update or custom rom which is actually not supported for your phone.. Same error shown when you try to flash your cell with custom rom which is actually not for your cell.
You can find compatible roms for your cell and then then update one of them via your recovery manager that will help you for sure ...
Assuming you have installed a custom recovery via odin ... instructions can be found in this thread by Android-United
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1635108
I believe you need to click on install from sd card and not apply update :highfive:

I was using MIUI NX A2SD version 1.8.5
Wanted to try the New version MIUI NX 1.9.x
So i Formated the SD using the "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition" as 1gb EXT3 and Rest as FAT
Now i wen i reboot my mobile it doesnt BOOT IN.
It doesnt even boot into the recovery in theOOTLOADER .
Please help.
I DONT THINK I HAVE THE CLOCKWORK or AMON installed ... wat to do ?
If you have unlocked bootloader - just install the recovery through fastboot and reinstall any ROM you want.
If you don't have unlocked bootloader - you can either unlock it, or try to restore your Nexus using PASSIMG method and then root it without unlocking. If PASSIMG won't work - then you'll have to unlock the bootloader.
All the relevant guides are in the Wiki. Link in my signature.
I will try the PASSIMG method ...
I have flashed my mobile many times with many OS till now BLINDLY.
I always had either CLOCKWORK or AMON recovery installed. But after ther recent MIUI install i didnt install any RECOVERY.
So i am not able to get the RECOVERY options.
Recovery isn't connected to ROM in any way, and if you had the recovery installed before installing the ROM - you still have it. Boot to bootloader, choose "Recovery", press power button to select.
Download FRG83 ROM from here. FRG33 ROM from here can also be used, but might result in "Main version is older" error.
Rename the downloaded ZIP file to PASSIMG.ZIP.
Transfer the provided PASSIMG.ZIP file to the root of your SD card.
Power down your phone.
Hold down the Volume Down button as you power your phone back on.
A screen should appear showing your phone’s system searching for various files. This will take up to 2 minutes.
The phone will ask you if you want to start the update. Press the Volume Up button to start the update.
If you followed these steps correctly - congratulations, you are now on stock Froyo ROM.

ANy ways thank you very much for directing me UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER.

As soon as I unlocked the Bootloader i was able to boot the mobile.

Now i put a new MIUI rom ZIP file on SD and try to enter the RECOVERY menu but i cant.

Make sure that there isn't a zip contained within a zip.
Anyway, the easiest way to get recovery back on your phone if you are back up and running with MIUI would be to install ROM Manager from the market and using it to flash your recovery.
Ok now the problm seems to be with SD card.
Now that i have booted into MIUI, i see that it is not detecting the SD card.
Installed Rom manager from market. It wants SD card to be accessed.
The SD card is working fine n my system. I might have formated it the wrong formats or something with the tool "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition"
Please let me know the exact format parameters.
I am formating as FAT32 - LOGICAL and another ext3 - LOGICAL

I would just recommend partitioning the card through recovery. Recovery will partition it the way it needs to be done. Just back up anything that is currently on the card.
You can't "click Recovery".
When you're in bootloader menu, you need to select the RECOVERY option using VOLUME UP/DOWN buttons, and press POWER button to select the option. If you can't - it means you're not doing it correctly.
The Wiki has section "Recovery", look at it and if you happen to have no recovery - flash a new one using the guide for unlocked bootloader there.
Hi,
Well i was trying to rooting up my phone for trying out Cynogenmod 9 (ICS 4.0) .....
The files i transferred to the sd card :
1.) recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace-fix
2.) upd_1
As instructed on tutorial guide... first i installed clockwork 5.... its done without any errors.... after that i tried "upd_1", which aborted installation with some "(status 7)" error..... after that i rebooted cell and gone for factory reset..... after that my ace got stucked up on boot loop screen.... cant go any furthur..... same step repeats many many times..... but no result......
I tried 2 guides....
1.) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145
2.) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552695
I'll appreciate any help regarding my boot loop problem.....
Thanks & Regards
Status 7 error relates to errors in updater script,it should not have been ignored like that.Furthermore,upd_1.zip is a root package for GB roms, not ICS roms,so wrong bin file there. Can you get to download mode? Or,atleast recovery?
Same problem
Hi I have the same problem just keeps cycling through the Samsung boot screen on a loop. I can get into Download mode and also I can boot into recovery. I downloaded a stock rom S5830XWKPN_S5830SWKP6_S5830XEUKP1_HOME Then I used odin 4.38 and clicked on OPS and used cooper_v1.0.ops and then clicked on one package and clicked on the zip of the stock rom I downloaded. Everything seemed to go well, but then the phone got stuck on this loop of the Samsung boot screen. I hope that you can help please.
Best regards Wez

hmmm I think he's still in GB. I think he means he's trying to prepare his ace to flash ICS rom cause obviously you can't flash ICS with stock recovery.
as for the op... try using stock recovery and flash upd_1? thats what I did.

Boot into recovery and wipe data.
Make a wipe in standart or full wipe in custom and flash again with odin! It will surely help

Is the phone bricked? I have tried using packages from Odin and One Click Unbrik but they both fail, I can get into download mode, but I cannot get into recovery mode. It just says ARM9 or something whenever I try. Is there a solution yet?
i fixed my phone i kept on having boot loops after falshing single packing so i turned the phone off then hold power and home till you come to recovery option wipe cache and i think its factory reset or full wipe so do both wipes then reboot phone WALA my phone was working hope this helps and dont forget to tick thanks button :good:
boot loop with other issues too...
hi there guys. I'm new to this forum and also to flashing...
but anyways I had a good look before flashing my phone but still messed it up...silly me
I tried rooting my phone via SD card(first clockwork mod ace 4 followed by clockwork mod 5 as said in tutorial) then upd_1 and then cm9. But after installing clockwork mod ace 4 I get :" E: failed to mount/ system (invalid argument)" same happens when trying to wipe cache partition/ data/ factory reset.
I can get into android system recovery no problems and also into odin download mode (where it gives you the warning and prompts you to press volume up if you still want to continue. It is also stuck on the samsung screen if I don't press anything.
But when trying to connect the phone to odin in order to rectify what I've done (with the one package methode, either gingerbread or cmw9) odin won't detect my phone. I used several different cables, original samsung cables, changed usb ports (directly off the motherboard) but to no avail.
heimdall will recognise the phone as far as I can see (when you click on detect device it says: "device detected") but I cannot find the right files I need to use for heimdall. I would very much appreciate any help and advice. Please point me in the right direction, show me where to download the correct files and which ones and please bear in mind I'm a noob. put it as plain as bread for me please :good:
just flash clockworkmod 5 and format system and data...
do a complete wipe ...clear cache,, wipe dalvik
then mount system and data and install any of ur modded stock or cm7... enjoy
---------- Post added at 08:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:47 PM ----------
many roms are pre rooted plus u dont need rooot access to flash rom
to flash CustomROM u dont need to root first our ace simply flash CWM 5 and put your CustomROM flashable .zip to your sdcard and then fullwipe (data, cache, advantage) and done.....
most of CustomROM now can directly flash from previous or Other CustomROM without flash to StockROM first..

It changes everything. 5830 is completely different from 5830i (they only share the name). Roms and mods for 5830 might brick your phone, so be careful.

Hi all,
I want to install CWM on my rooted SGS however there appears to be on CF Kernel that matches my JVN Kernel so using the CF method is not an option from what I have read.
So I installed ROM Manager and tried to install it that way but I now get signature verification errors when I go into Recovery.
Next I downloaded the recovery image from the CWM website but I cannot seem to find any information on installing it onto a SGS.
If anyone could offer any suggestions it would be appreciated.
TIA
Greg
Edit: Firmware is 2.3.3
Why dont you just flash JVU then Root it
Comes with CWM ....
As I am guessing you want CWM to flash a rom yes?
If so most Roms require ...from my knowledge a clean install of JVU with ODIN before flashing a New Rom

Download this "update.zip". Place it in your SD card. Power off and boot into recovery with the 3 button combination (press power, volume up and home button till you see the boot logo) and select "apply sdcard: update.zip". DO NOT DELETE THIS FROM SD. You should have CWM installed now. Let me know if you have any problem.
You need to root your phone first with update.zip for i9000, download the latest CWM.zip, put it in the storage. Then go to recovery and install the CWM.zip Goodluck flashing!

Can you use any version of JVU? eg: Europe, Asia, Australia. Or, should you only use one for your region, in my case Australia.
I have an Australian verion of JW6 (2.3.6), would that be acceptable?

Thanks for the UPDATE.ZIP, I note it is just a renamed CWM. I did not know you could just rename them and then install them. Thanks.
So, my plan at this stage is to update to 2.3.6 (JW6) and then install CWM via UPDATE.ZIP. Should this work?
TIA
Greg
Yeah you can upgrade first. Flash a firmware or upgrade OTA. You should root your phone first before flashing a custom recovery such as CWM.

Hello,
i am new to the forum and i registered in it in order to have a solution on my problem! I downloaded recenlty cyanogenmod for my mobile for your site http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085347
Before i had android 2.3.3 in my phone! The problem is when i flash the rom i get this error: E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip (Status 0)
I have searched the forum for previous similar threads and i followed many of them! However because i am not very expert in these kind of things i was confused in many points of them (for example one which explaned the root of the problem something has to do with the binary update and a script)..And i was not given detailed commands on solving the problem I formatted my sd card (after taking a backup on my pc) and only transfered after, the update for cyanogen mod 10.1 and the one for the google apps but the same problem occured. I desperately need your help because i cant practically use my mobile and i need it...
So please tell me what should i do.
Thank you in advance! Sorry for my bad english
(i also have rooted long time ago my phone)

i thins it is samsung recovery! the samsung logo in on the screen and up left:
RANDUMP Mode (ARM9mode)
If you want to flash custom ROMs, you must have custom recovery, like ClockWorkMod, RZ Recovery or TWRP.
You will need to flash it using Odin first, and then you can change recovery by just flashing packages. (You don't must change recovery after you flash from Odin.)

Hello,
I'm trying to root my S5830 but it's not working. I have had it rooted before because I installed Samsung's stock android version 2.3.6 (The phone originally came with 2.2.1 I think).
The exact stock firmware on the phone is GINGERBREAD.XWKTQ.
I tried applying the universal_gb_root_v25 file in recovery mode and it seems to be working. There's no errors or anything and it tells me the device has been rooted and to restart. However after restarting, the device does not appear to be rooted at all, RootValidate tells me root access is not available. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you!

Thanks, what custom recovery are you talking about? I just entered the default android recovery mode by pressing HOME and POWER buttons on startup. I tried the upd_1 file in recovery mode and it ran okay, but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem.

I talk about CWM /clockwork) 5.0.2.6
This fixed it for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1850070
So it seems the problem was there was not enough space left and I first had to run Delete_thinkdroid.zip to free up some space. After that I applied upd_1.zip and now the phone is rooted.
