Yeah I noticed that, hmmmm.
It's tempting even though I have a Note 10.14 already... :victory:
This is such a great tablet I can't imagine this new one, with that screen and size specs.

I think this is the first post in this forum.
Definitely would like at least 32 GB. Leaning more towards the 8.4". We have a 10" tablet, and it is just too big to use one handed. And by use, I mean hold.
The weight of both tablet is relatively low. The AMOLED screen makes for a thin tablet. The ahead-of-its-time GT-P6800 7.7 tablet is amazingly thin and solid. It's still a good tablet for media playing and web surfing.
I just pre ordered the 10.5 32gb version from Best buy, I wonder how they pulled the exclusive with the 32gb. I'm in the process of putting some sample files on a flash drive to test on one of the display models. Best buy also has the bronze and white book covers for 39.99 rather than 69.99. Glad I decided to wait for the release and didn't open my Note Pro, it's already on it's way back to Samsung.
Edit: So I went and tested two video files at the local Best Buy, Pacific Rim 1080p 12gb mkv high encoding 19 quality and Timescapes mp4 2560x1440. The picture on this tablet is amazing especially the nature scenes in the Timescapes file. The stock player was able to player both files with no skips or jitters.
I pre ordered the 8.4 from Future Shop (Canada). I am keeping my Note Pro 12.2 as my home unit, the 8.4 as my traveler (Read in bed) and Nexus 5 as my phone. I have no problems with a 16 gig unit. I used the savings and bought a 64 gig microsd. After being burned by Samsung in the past ie.. software updates and coming from a Nexus background I was hesitant to purchase the 12.2 but I have to admit that it has been a nice experience. The first tablet I haven't bothered to root. I think the 8.4 will be even better. Of course I will be keeping my eyes on this year's Google IO conference just in case they mythical Google 8 is announced. I just need to find a case and glass screen protector.
I am really tempted by this new tab
Especially since I sold my Nexus 7 2013 FHD, I really would like to replace that with the new 8.4 Tab S. I miss reading books and browsing the web on my couch or bed. I don't really care for the aesthetics mainly due to the placement of the buttons, it's just weird having the phone layout of buttons on a huge tablet, I prefer to have them on the sides of the device. Not a deal breaker though. I'm just torn on whether to buy this 8.4 through amazon as I have a gift card there for 300 bucks or save a little more and wait for the new Nexus 8 or Nexus 10 if they ever announce them. I have a galaxy note 3 and being a phablet I thought it would be sufficient enough in size to not miss my nexus 7 but I was wrong. The one thing I hate about Samsung is the bloatware and difficulty in rooting the device due to knox and voiding the warranty. I'd prefer to wait for a tablet using either the tegra 4 K1(32 bit) chip or the tegra k1 (64 bit) chip because the games on it would be fabulous, but like I said I am just itching to replace my tablet I dearly miss and this samsung galaxy tab S looks very promising...Woe me
for some reason the smartwatches here in bahrain and saudi are more expensive than in the US but the phones and phablets are cheaper, wonder which range this tab s prices will be here
I preordered this online on bestbuy (in canada) because when I went to do it in stores their system didn't let them help me. is this normal? anyway if you preorder from bestbuy canada they give you the folio case for free as well I believe and theres a lexar 64gb thats on sale for 70 bucks off until the 19th...
Noticed BestBuy, Futureshop, Staples in Canada all bumped their dates back to July 4th right away. Was saying June 26 for the first day or two. Amazon still says June 26.
I wonder if it will get bumped again. I've had horrible experience ordering online from bestbuy and futureshop. I'd try staples next if they had the free cover offer too.
I ordered the 10.5 white from Samsung store for $499, including Samsung's book cover case worth $69.99 as a gift... They promised 1 July delivery.

What color folio case did you select?
On both bestbuy.ca and futureshop.ca, only 3 colors (brown, blue, and white) are available for free.
When I add the charcoal black one to my cart, it shows up as full price.
I was going to go into the store to ask for the black one, but your posts makes it sound like they won't be able to do much.

I started my tablet buying addiction with Chinese tablets - lol. I have owned a number of Chinese tablets , TV sticks and TV boxes. My advice is to save yourself a lot of grief and buy a name brand tablet from a recognized retailer. There are a number of issues to consider. 1) The RK3288 looks like a good chip but Rockchip is notorious for producing buggy versions of Android. I know I currently own two Rockchip devices and if it wasn't for a dedicated user base debugging and producing custom ROM's, the devices would be useless. 2) If your tablet has a hardware defect you would have to ship it all the way back to China - usually at your own expense. It could take months to get it sorted out. 3) Chinese manufacturers tend not to support devices once they are originally released and since these Chinese tablets don't usually appear on XDA you are left on your own. 4) Many Chinese Companies quickly disappear for no notice. 5) You'll be kicking yourself for not spending that extra money for that great Tab S display.
If you do by Chinese then Geekbuying is a reliable place. They have always been good to me.
Hope this help,
D

I just bought a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition. It's really nice and I actually like the S-Pen more than I thought I would... however, I'm thinking of returning it to get a Tab S instead.
From what I see, the specs are really close between the two tablets. Main differences appear to be the AMOLED screen and slightly thinner/lighter Tab S ... but then I lose the S-Pen. Both AMOLED and scLCD screens seem to perform nicely, so that's a matter of preference I guess. I have a Galaxy S5 and the scLCD on the Note side-by-side to my S5 AMOLED screen looks pretty close.
Thoughts? Do you think the Tab S will be that much better than something like the Note 2014?
Thanks
I so did not "need" a $500 tablet. I have a desktop computer, an ultra book with pen capability and a Note 3. My access to all the Internet has to offer was not limited. And yet I walked into BestBuy of my own free will and handed them a pile of hard earned cash for this tablet. Why?
1) Tech lust. It was shiny and new and oh that screen. Face it, that screen isn't fighting fair.
2) I like viewing the Web in portrait. Why? I guess because I always had this fantasy of a future where I could sit and read an electronic newspaper. In portrait the Web feels like that. None of my other tech allowed me to do that like this 10.5 does.
3) Unboxing. Silly but I love the experience of Unboxing a new tech toy. I can see why people actually post videos of this on YouTube even though everyone knows how the story ends.
4) For me, this tablet is pure toy. I suppose I could do work on it but I doubt I will. I wanted a consumption device. I wanted eye candy. I wanted Netflix and YouTube in HD+.
5) I can sit back on my sofa with my cup of coffee and read on it like a book. Again the portrait thing.
6) I wanted clean clear deep black fonts with no fuzzies. I HATE fuzzy fonts. I guess because it blows my fantasies of the electronic newspaper.
5 years ago I almost died of cancer. As I lay in my hospital bed after hearing the bad news one of the things I thought of was how disappointed I was that I would not live to see the technology I had always imagined. Dumb right? Here I lay dying and I'm worried about never owning a Tab S. Lol, I'm ridiculous.
My next tech fantasy? Perfect robot girlfriend of course, but I think that one will take a while
So, is your new Tab S (boring name for the fulfillment of a long term dream) a toy or a tool or both?
I hear you, exactly same here. I just bought brand new 17" gaming laptop for over 2k, I have Note 3, I have iPad air, 2 weeks ago i bought Note Pro 12.2 just because it was on sale at Costco, but I had to have the new 8.4 S Watching ESPN games on this amoled screen is unbelievable... definitely a toy for me.

Wow - you guys definitely got it it bad...lol
I browse the web and read in portrait mode always, even the 8.4" suffices nicely. Videos always in landscape and I'm liking this tablet for that as well.
Unboxing doesn't do anything for me to tell the truth, but a nice new shiny device with these specs and performance does and with the BB discounted deal it was a no brainer for me personally.
A definite toy for me personally as well by the way.

Great question for a thread!
My answer: YES! (Because I'm THAT guy! )
I live out of a suitcase for days at a time, and having all my books and magazines, as well as a whole bunch of TV, movies and games all in one little slab really keeps me sane and grounded.
I carry a GS5, which is great for getting updates on things, but when I want to get serious about really enjoying what I'm reading or watching, there's no substitute for a nice tablet!
Oh, and I'm REALLY glad you beat the Big 'C'!!!
OP.. First of all glad to hear your alive and hopefully we'll after the scare 5 years ago. As I was reading your list before the cancer part I was going to say I wish I had the finances to buy this tablet as a toy. But reading that part I am glad you are enjoying this tablet on the couch with a cup of coffee.
I'm as tech crazy as you all. I am known at my local bestbuy as the rental guy. In the last 4 months I have 'rented' note 10.1 , tab pro 8.4, tab pro 10.1, note pro 12.2 iPad Air. I have not kept any of them. Have to love elite and their 45 day return policy.
I have not purchased the new tab s because I'm holding out for a new nexus refresh. The news today if the leaked 8.9 specs are epic while I think false considering the 5gb of ram. I'm typing on my iPad 3 which I still works and have a note 3.
I am now going to find a 2nd job to keep up with you all. .
Here's how bad it is. I actually find myself disappointed once I've caught up on all my emails, Web pages and blogs. I start looking for new apps to install or delete or maybe just start a silly thread like this one just to have SOMETHING to do on my shiny new toy.
Oh well, hey its fun. No more no less. I have to be responsible all day. I can fart around and waste a little time with my tablet if I want to.
I was just tired of carrying my heavy laptop to bed when I really wanted to relax and watch all my media content...with this thing its a no brainer and I do like that you can read in portrait mode. I'll be doing alot of that tonight
I'm sitting here with a dying RAZR M, dead GNex, old Nexus 7, and a Chromebook running elementary OS... I wish I could splurge!

I wish I had the balls to purchase, open, play, return. I would definitely get banned from Bestbuy.
I was curious on how many devices I have purchased so I made a list. It was actually shocking.
1) Kinpad - Chinese
2) Viewsonic
3) Wopad - Chinese
4) Asus TF100
5) Sansung 7Plus
6) Asus TF700
7) Nexus 7
8) Nexus 7 (2013)
9) HTC Sensation
10) HTC One X
11) Nexus 5
12) Samsung Note Pro 12.2
13) Samsung Tab S 8.4
14) Apple iPad 2
15) Minix x5
16) Minix x7
17) Generic TV stick 1
18) Generic TV stick 2
19) Generic TV stick 3
20) Roku
21) Asus TF200
Future
22) Samsung Note 4
23) RK3288 TV Box
24) Moto 360
All that over 3 years. But as my girlfriend says .... it keeps me out of the bars.......lol
But I think my last round of purchases (12.2 , Tab S and Note 4) should hold me for a while. I think the hardware and the OS has actually caught up with expectation. I can focus less on tweaking and just using the damn stuff.

I didn't know such a thing existed. Good to know,
A toy that will get a lot of use. I travel every week, flying mostly. I will use this tab for watching movies, e-books, and web browsing via gogo in-flight internet (I will find out ne week when I try and log in, hopefully it will recognize my device and give me my 1 year free subscription!) when on the road. This is my first 10+" tab. I came from using my Nexus 7 (2013) when traveling, but when I saw the screen and specs of this thing, I felt I needed to treat myself!
I have an addiction. I have the Tablet S 10.5 and 8.4. I just gave my Tab Pro 8.4 to the wife, and I still have the Note 10.1 2014 and Note Pro 12.2. Probably going to be returning the two Notes.
I think I need an intervention.

Well. They better not drop the microsd and relovable battery or else the sales will drop anyways!
Samsung is believed to be bringing the launch date of the Galaxy Note 5 forward by a few weeks in order to beat Apple to the punch. The Wall Street Journal believes that the Korean company will announce its phablet gigantophone in August and get it into stores ahead of the iPhone 6S. It's a break from tradition, since Samsung normally refreshes the Note line at IFA in the first week of September. Last year, however, the iPhone 6 arrived around the same time and, presumably, stole enough thunder to prompt the change.
The move would give the company something to shout about after seeing its smartphone sales slip between April and June. It's believed that Samsung misread demand for the Galaxy S6 Edge which was significantly more popular than it had anticipated. By bringing the launch of the Galaxy Note 5 forward by a few weeks, the device could be in stores by September and/or encourage fair-weather users to wait a few more days when it comes to upgrade time.

Yeah 6 inch plus screens are the way to a universal sales surge. Why people fought each other to buy the z ultra and the nexus 6.
Now that specs are confirmed, is anyone actually interested in the note 5? I have a note 4 and am so dissapointed in where they took the note line.
They started off the keynote saying "after listening to customers/fans of the phone we came up with....." Yea what note fan said I dont want an SD card slot and I want a smaller/non replaceable battery. Or I am willing to give up all this to save .0001mm in thickness.
I heard LG is making a note, can anyone confirm?
This phrase with "... listening to the customers ..." keeps ringing in my head. I have a SG Note Edge and I will never trade my Edge for a Note 5. Except the new design, the N5 is far below my Edge. I think that they made a big mistake releasing the Note Edge before the N5. But is too late to fix that now.
I wouldn't buy the Galaxy Note 5 since I can get the similar specs (S6) for cheaper. I barely use the S Pen anyways.
I think for note 4 users like myself see it as the same screen probably same camera with new software . Smaller battery ,no ir blaster,no sd card you know its bad when they remove the note 4 from carrier websites. Sprint don't even have it there. What person would buy the note 5 over the note 4. Note series was always about being a game changer and bring something new to the table. All they did was copy apple design bad move i pray it flop so they release the version we all want.
Rocking a Note 4 currently. The more powerful CPU/GPU, RAM etc would be nice. Seeing my Note 4 stutter with certain graphically rich apps (mainly high end games) is something I hate seeing. I know better optimization by dev would help but with Android having hundreds of devices I'm not going to hold my breath on that. Even with the Note series being a popular device. Pushing a 2K display I want the most powerful GPU I can get.
The tradeoffs for me is the smaller non removable battery. The convenience the IR blaster offers will be missed but it's not a deal breaker. Same with the SD card.
Buying a Note every year looks to be ending for me though. I will miss the best multitasking the Note series offers but unless Sammy drops the price a whole lot I'm not getting one. Too many cons. Seems Sammy wanted to go after all the people who wasn't buying one and TOOK FOR GRANTED the people who did purchase it. The people who made it the success it was.
I could be wrong, but I believe this device is not going to sell well. The lackluster sales of the GS6 will be followed by lackluster sales of the Note series.
I agree about the sales comment. I have never read so many negative reviews / seen so many disappointed Comments on a device. I think that if this was priced at $450 we would all be going crazy for it. But at $900 when you can get the g4 for $450... it's out of alignment.

Love both Edge 6 & Note 5.
Vote for Note 5
1. 2.
I'm coming from a Nexus 4, so this Note will be a huge upgrade for me.
Since I'm coming from a phone with no external memory card slot and a non replaceable battery I won't miss either
I really wanted the new Moto X but since it doesn't support T-Mobile wifi calling I'll be going with the Note 5 when it's released. I did think about getting the Note 4, but with the free year subscription to Netflix on T-Mobile It's only an extra 50 dollars then the Note 4, so I figured why bother getting a year old phone?
I have realized that i can perfectly ditch the note functionality.
i barely use the stylus.
so this galaxy note 5 flop is easier to survive than it seems...
and the new phone will be less heavy.
anyway, starting from now on i stop recommending samsung products to others.
I got the note 5 since it first came out it is almost 2 years now
I am so amazed with the new OP5 specially the performance
what do you think should I upgrade to it or should I wait one more year till the s9 or the htc 12 ?
I was thinking the same but my note still out performs most.
I just replaced the battery and soon screen and charge port... Will be a new phone.
They made this model note a classic in my opinion

I wont be much help..well I just bought the Note 5... awesome price....new and was made Feb 2017. Unless you NEED SD slot..... you take your phone in TONS of rain or love to swim with it lol. Price was not a problem.. but still... I watched ALL the reviews... videos. And WOW it keeps up with the S8. Now.. games wise.. S8 gets what 170k and the Note gets 90k. I never play games on it.. so. And LOVE the have to have the PEN. Not a curve screen fan.

I hate seeing awesome devices get old and go by the wayside. When the Note 5 & S6 Edge Plus were released they were Flagship worthy devices with great hardware. They still perform quite well to this day. The hardware has begun getting a little long in the tooth and the biggest problem for me is the Dev support. There are only a few devs left who are actively developing for these devices and unfortunately, in my opinion, they will all move on to newer devices. I am still learning and crafting my development skills and I am nowhere near ready to release a ROM or Kernel.
If you are using the Note 5 for a daily driver and are not heavy into Root/Custom Roms/Custom Kernels etc. then I'd say the Note 5 is still a quality choice. With that being said, if you want active dev support for your flashaholic needs you may want to move on to the One+5. It's an excellent device. I have first hand knowledge as my wife carries a One+5 as her daily driver.
Also, the HTC U11 looks like a solid choice if you don't want to wait and see what the HTC U12 looks like. The S9 is still a little far out as well. I am an Edge Plus user now and I enjoy this device. I needed a quick replacement for my broken Nexus 6P that suffered a tragic fall from 9 feet in the air. I was able to score my Edge+ new in the box for $100 from a local dealer.
Good luck with your choice. Let us know which one you pick.
