CyanogenMod MMS app (updated 12-JAN-2013) - Motorola Atrix HD

This is taken from the latest CM10 Nightly builds. Its 4.1 MMS app with built in quick reply and / or popup screen on features, plus an extra emoji support built in.
My changes:
Changed launcher icon in MIP map and res/xhdmi. Also signed with test keys so it will now install on any system with jelly bean, rooted or not.
Instructions: Download and install apk like any other app.
Optionally can place in /system/app and fix permissions to 644 (rw/r/r) and reboot, if you want it to be system app.

Does it do group messaging like the stock motorola app? The Cyanogen texting has always sucked in that regard.

I'm not sure I never do group texting...
Edit: just tried and yes it does do group messaging. Now does it do it as well as stock one? I'm not sure.

Well I'm trying to figure out why, but it seems to be a known issue with the cm MMS app on jellybean... I'll be messing with it some more asap.

I've updated the MMS app with a new mms.xml ... I found that if you only freeze the stock text messaging app rather than deleting it MMS will work straight away. I highly recommend doing this.

Had it installed just to test and give feedback. I love it man thanks for the upload!

I didn't freeze the original at all. First MMS I received, the app said it failed and FCed. After opening it up again I haven't had any problems.
Just received some pics so I can confirm you do not need to remove or freeze the stock app.

OK good

OK so I used root explorer to move the apk to system/app/ , renamed it to messaging.apk, named the stock apk to original messaging.apk, changed permissions to rw,r,r, and rebooted. Now I get a fc when opening messaging. Where did I go wrong?

anyway to port the cm10.1 MMS app? Not sure if it has 4.2 api requirements, but it has the quick reply, and group messaging (native to 4.2). Not sure if it has been merged yet, but there will be a "mark read" button also:
https://plus.google.com/u/0/117962666888533781522/posts/FxvYwe32qEb

After changing the modified apk to MMS.apk it works fine. Sorry for the delay in replying, I had posted a reply but it never went through.

attached is the most recent nightly (10-DEC-2012) cm10.1 Android 4.2 MMS. I froze the default messaging app, moved this over to system/apps, 0644'd it and rebooted. It works... except group messaging (which converts the message to MMS) crashes the app and im not receiving any picture messages. Can you try to do your edits to see if you can get group messaging to work?

For those having issues with brainmasters ROM, I wonder if it's because it a MIUI ROM? Not ASOP...
I can't download it for some reason, so I can't test it. I doubt that it installs witht the Google Music App either, so I don't know that I can fix that....
We appreciate your effort. Might be time to try new ROM.

Sounds good, I've been poking around in Conversations.apk(textmessaging)from RAZR and it seems to me that some of the differences in the look of the app are due to system framework not just the app itself. Specifically the backgrounds as i couldn't find them within the app. I am by no means an expert tho so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah. there are some messaging references in the blur-res.apk. can you tell me what the differences are between the Droid 3 and razr messaging apps? Then ill know what to look for. Thanks

well i've only seen the RAZR's text app in a conversation and the big thing seems to be the background. On the DROID3 the background is a light gray and the RAZR has a dark maybe black background.

Here it is, only for odexed systems (Ill put a deodexed one together later). If you still have the original motorola latinIME.apk, you don't need to replace the latinIME.odex, only the .apk. this isnt a flashable zip so just extract it and move the .apk to /system/app/ and overwrite the old latinIME.apk.
Make sure you have correct permissions
Update: Uploaded deodexed version. I havent tested it so let me know if it works.
Update 2: Deodexed version works

[APP][MOD][ICS] SMS App Holo Style

Holo Style MOD for Stock SMS App
Hey guys I've created a Holo themed SMS app from our stock SMS app. I found many SMS apps that were inverted but the problem with most of them was that they had removed important features like 'Soft Keyboard Style' and similar important features which is what led me to make this. This is my first MOD and my first contribution to the android world and XDA. It has all the features of stock nothing has been removed and it's themed to look like the Holo interface. Hope you guys like it. If you find any bugs then please let me know I'll try to fix them as soon as possible. Enjoy!

Full timestamps means date and everything. Sent time stamps show when the text message was sent, as there may be a delay when it was sent and when it's received.
If you and Difusal don't mind, maybe you can PM him on how he got the Sent timestamps feature?

I've heard a lot of good things about the AOSP SMS app. It definitely works on the XZ?

OK. I've installed the .zip but and the SMS App is working perfectly but I can't get MMS to work. It just stays on Sending...
Any ideas?
Also, the instructions in the link posted says to disable KeyguardWidget.apk. I cant't find it, though. I have disabled Conversations.apk.
Is that what you did?
If not, what app did you disable?

settings > apps > all apps (scroll all the way to the right) > messaging (scroll down till you find it)
You might have to set the correct apn settings for mms to work. I dont know did it wipe that when you flashed it.
I downloaded new APN settings using the option in the Settings menu.
Disabling conversations.apk just stopped SMS from working as swell, so I've re-enabled that.
I also tried to disable Messaging before but the "disable" option is greyed out. Can I just rename the .apk in the /system/app folder?
ALso, when I get an SMS, two copies come in at the same time?

You are gettting two copies because you still the the sony messaging app running, so you need to first disable that.
the Sony Messaging's disabled button shouldnt be greyed out. If you flashed the above zip correctly there should be any problems.
maybe flash it again and try to disable it.
if it doesnt work then use titanium backup and freeze it.
Thanks for the reply. I just deleted the MMS.apk from the system/app folder and rebooted the phone. This sorted out both the double texts and MMS problem.
I had been using Textra and then Contacts+ but didn't realise the Honami SMS app was quite neat and tidy, so I'll use that from now on. I just need to figure out how to get the app to switch the screen on and show a popup when I receive an SMS now.
Thanks again for you help.
The only thing i did was to flash the zip and then reboot, disable original sms app in settings / applications. Then it worked

it wiped all my previous messages from the sony msg app, so i restored them through some app from play store. It restored all of it, but when i launch the google msg app, it freezes most of the time, as in the entire phone freezes.
So i guess its either start fresh or not. >.>
