Very less friction and buttery smooth.

yeah for some reason cm10 isnt as smooth as it should be, especially after the 2nd-3rd nightly. its only buttery smooth with performance governor but its a total battery killer (runs always @ 1GHz). i also hope that something can b done about it..

Lets make a couple of things clear. LG has implemented governor support on the ICS (base for CM10) kernel. There no longer a choice only between on demand and conservative. All the governors included in CM10 do actually work and by changing them one can see obvious changes in performance. As far as smoothness is concerned: CM10 is undoubtedly smoother than GB/CM7/Hacked CM9-10. What bugs me and cannot really explain is that in some cases is not as perfectly smooth as it should be and as the 1st leaked ICS was for that matter. Im giving 2 concrete examples. If you use Apex launcher, long pressing on the home screen brings up the choice of adding shortcuts and widgets. If you choose widgets, u get the widget menu list. Scrolling on that list used to be perfectly smooth on the leaked ICS (and if not mistaken, in the first couple of nighties, 1030 and 1031). On current nightly it stutters a lot, even more than it used to on CM7. Another example is the Scrollable News Widget (an RSS text widget). It used to be perfectly smooth, whether scrolling fast or not, on the leaked ICS and while on cm10 scrolling stutters with lots of screen tearing. Even the contacts menu does slightly stutter when scrolling. I was under the impression that this was one of the issues that project butter was addressing by forcing vsync and tripple buffer. So i wonder, is project butter actually implemented on CM10 or not? I cannot possibly explain how (even the leaked) ICS can be smoother in these cases than CM10. One thing that i found (and mentioned above) is that when the governor is set to performance (always running @ 1 GHz) everything is as smooth as it can be. So, could that have to do with how the interactive governor (stock governor on CM10) is implemented on CM10? Id be really interested to hear from a knowledgable source on this issue.

hhm, am I only one who don't like ICS scrolling? It's really slow. In CM 10 one move and I am at end of file. In ICS I have to scroll 3 or 4 times to go to end of file.
Nova launcher prime works buttery smooth.

x2, yesterday I tried stock ICS and CM10 (current) and stock ICS is "heavy" as a truck, it is smooth but takes longer to go where you want to go, then I would say "slow" but not jaggy or teared, not slow bad but slow as intended
CM10 is another story, FAST as furious, clean, clear with 0 issues. I'm talking about the nov 11, 2012 nightly, if you used CM7 then is the same fast/smoothness, maybe a bit faster because of the improvements of ICS and JB in the android UI (notification and lock screen are ways faster in JB).

Guys, recently just flashed kingdroid a I'm in search of the best rom. I'm disappointed however because my note scored fairly low in antutu benchmark test. Any one knows what makes the phone faster and get higher scores in benchmarks? Thanks.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
Ehh....benchmarks vary so much. It all depends on what you are running (app-wise) and such. Anything can change a benchmark score.
Does the ROM "feel" smooth? Does it run good for you? This is what matters most, not benchmarks.
What really borders me about the note is the scrolling. There will always be aome scrolling lag. No doubt the phone is fast, but why the scrolling is laggy? Eg. Whatsapp scroll.

Theres really no best KERNEL or CUSTOM ROM unless you try them all and test it on your device, EACH device acts differently, for instance ICS Stunner may be really awesome on a majority of Galaxy Notes but on mine it struggles.
You can't go wrong by trying out all different ROMS and match the suited Kernel, I know its time consuming but it's worth it in the end as you'd know which ROM and Kernel suits your needs.

I am on Kingdroid and I flash Franco r5. When I used it with Franco updater, I can run the phone at 1600 MHz with v2.0. I am happy with the performance compare with other ICS rom I tried. However it is still not as fast in scrolling as my present sgs2 with Malice rom.
By saying the "best" rom and kernel means that the majority of the community is using and trust. And i had tried ALL the ics custom roms but still the lag is there. Im coming to know maybe there is no way to eliminate the lag. If someobe out there claim that they have no lag, pls share a video thanks.

Hi guys. I am currently using temasek's CM7 build 128, which I really enjoy. (awesome speed, awesome battery, looks cool)
However, I was wondering: is there an ICS rom good enough to use it daily? Even with the hardware acceleration -and other- bugs?
Every thread I search the information is messed up, it is impossible to know if the rom is useable or not. Although I really love testing new roms, I don't have all this time avaiable.
Any sugestions?

I tried NovaHD and it is really smooth, indeed.
However, apart from the bugs, I noticed 2 things that pissed me off:
1) the battery is warming up fast and stays hot for a long time. I reach 32~34 degrees within 15 minutes of moderate use. (I don't play games)
2) the multitasking feels quite heavy. I no longer can alternate between 3~4 apps instantly, as I could in CM7.
Is it normal from ICS, or will it be fixed when LG/Nvidia release the correct drivers?
thank you for your answers

@cool.guy,
if you haven't tried it yet, give tonyp's PARANOIDANDROID a try as well:

I either use it or Owain's Domination for my daily use and very happy with both.
Good luck!
Paranoidandroid is also good, like owain's.
However, as I said, nothing compares to cm7. The interface feels much more responsive and light. Running CM9 I can feel the phone using all of its resources and still can't get a decent multitasking.
One of the two senteces below is necessarily true:
1) ICS is too heavy for 512Mb phones; or
2) The lack of hardware acceleration drivers makes the ICS a heavy system.
Agreed?

Why do you believe that? ICS has proven to be a more hardware demander system than GB.
It happened with my old Milestone 1: great phone, but lacked on ram just like optimus. (Considering the launch time).
Result: I had to stay on CM6 if I wanted a decent multitasking. The milestone simply couldn't handle the GB, due to the 256mb ram. So I stayed on froyo and was happy that way.
It seems to be the same situation between GB and ICS.
Please tell me if I am wrong.
Hugs.

battery life for music
is the sound really better on cm?
(i mean compared to power amp in stock roms)
does it sound louder and have a richer bass?
Yup. I tried everything (CiCi, Mercurified, Zeus, Nova), tried to apply fixes to switch music with volume rockers (it's sth necessary for me - i failed ) and cm is the best in my opinion.

AFAIK does DVFS (feature of LG) already undervolt your CPU as far as possible, according to safe values of course. I think anything lower causes SoDs and other errors... You should take boype's kang, if you want to have CM7. I just made a test and got 1day 18 hours with normal use, so you can definitly get more out of it
Well I'm using boyope's cm7 and its sort of same as zeus v7 in battery life, just try boyope's then see for yourself since u want a cm rom

Hey happy users of the LG Optimus 4X HD, just want to share you this emulator which runs perfectly on our device.
I only tried two games but they are heavy and run pretty smoothly on our device.
I tried : - Dragonball Z Shin Budokai (absolutely fluid)
- PES 2013 (lags sometimes)
There are also a lot of settings so that you can customise your controls.
You can also save and load state easily.
The app is still in beta stage but is being update frequently, the global performance are improved and the list of compatibility gets longer and longer.
Just a little tip : In the settings, Buffered Rendering is ticked by default however if you want get the real and great graphics, untick Buffered Rendering.

Try different kernel and different combination of scheduler and governor. Every kernel have a "performance" governor.
Btw don't forget that the benchmark are not really representative of the true performance of a device.
It is always good to have some big numbers, but some benchmark apps can be hacked easily to show to incredible scores (and in particular Quadrant).
