Restore Nandroid ICS Backup Over CM10 JB Rom? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just want to know if it is safe to do this, or if there is a different procedure I need to follow .... ?
EDIT: It looks like I need to flash my previous (safe) ICS kernel first, then install the Nandroid backup? I thought the backup would contain the kernel .... ?

Backup does contain the kernel...but it isn't flashing from it. Best to restore a backup from safe kernel used to make it to ensure no issues arise

PS...all cm10 kernels by entropy are safe
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2

So I assume I would flash the safe ICS kernel, then restore the backup WITHOUT rebooting in between, correct?

You must reboot to recovery after flashing safe ICS kernel or you are still on the old recovery...
It is not a requirement to flash the original nandroid recovery to restore but it a cleaner way to prevent issues

Just a side note if I wasn't clear... you CAN safely restore from the cm10 recovery...it is just cleaner the way we have discussed to make sure no issues arise later on
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2

I know this is a dumb question, but how do I reboot to recovery after flashing the safe ICS kernel without booting into the CM10 rom which will of course not work with the ICS kernel?

Volume-up home and power
Hold it before boot until it boots to recovery
That is the same as boot to recovery from cm10 power menu

Everything work OK?

Everything went great, smooth as can be. So glad I did the Nandroid backup!
I'm going to stick with ICS for now. Since I have your attention--any ICS roms you might recommend? Speed speed and more speed is what I'm looking for ...

I personally like stock LRT (open Germany) with speedmod...
Most important thing for me is battery life...with speedmod I get great battery life and performance... Hydracore is probably better performance wise but the battery life is just too low for my liking...
I also use kimifender's 15 toggles mod which makes it look like CM interface...
I also love paranoid android...it is really peppy...and customizable...but the battery life just doesn't work for me anymore...

[Q] XXLRQ wipe// EMMC bug (HELP NEEDED)

Greetings Folks,
I have recently update to XXLRQ with my Samsung Galaxy Note N7000. I read on a previous threat that the EMMC BUG was fixed with that release. I Root my galaxy note and wipe data (BIG MISTAKE, DON'T DO IT).
Now I'm brick, The phone gets stuck on "Samsung Galaxy note N7000" Logo and does not move from there.
I have access to Download Mode and Recovery mode. I found a previous thread about it, but it's not very user friendly, I was wondering if you happen to have a friendly way (dumb prove) to get out of EMMC brick. I don't know DOS.
Any other user with the same problem?
I have tried flashing Gingerbread Stock Rom no go. Stuck in Factory ims something
I have tried flashing ICS Stock Rom no go Stuck in Factory ims something
I've tried restoring my emergency back up done with (CMW) it got stuck.
I've tried flashing other GB roms with Abyss Kernel no go
I will appreciate it any assistance provided. I will donate to the developer who prointed to the right direction.
Thanks in advance for any assitance provided.
If you wipe XXLRQ too. Please post your case here, hopefully we may get assistance form a Senior Member

[Q] How to flash from completely stock, non-rooted ICS?

Please forgive me if this question is one which has been asked a lot; I've searched around but I'm finding a lot of conflicting information.
Exactly how do you safely flash from stock ICS (4.0.0.4; unrooted) to a new rom (for example, I'm looking at going to a CM10 rom)?
Some guides seem to say:
1) Flash a safe kernel using ODIN (I was looking at Hydrocore)
2) Flash back to a pre-rooted gingerbread rom using ODIN (e.g http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025)
3) Flash the rom you're interested in using ODIN
Or perhaps I only need to do steps 1 & 3?
Thanks!
You need to do the 1st and 3rd steps.

[Q] need help going back to stock ICS from miui rom

hi all!
i flashed miui rom on my note and think that it is too fancy for my simple taste. so i wish to go back to stock ics rom. i am thinking to:
1. reboot to recovery
2. wipe data/factory reset
3. wipe dalvik cache
4. restore backup
is this the correct procedure? or would i have to flash the LRT rom again and root and everything? sorry i have to ask because i think for someone not as tech-savvy as most people here, it is better to be safe than sorry. thank you for any help.
PS also anyone know of any mod to join unlimited number of contacts? i can't seem to find anything. found something but then the link it led to was already dead.

If you have a backup of the stock rom you like to go back to I would recommend flashing Abyss4.2 kernel first which over a long time has been considered as safe with wipes and stable with install/restore (except for some backups made with cwm 6+).
After install of Abyss4.2 and rebooted recovery: perform a full wipe and restore your backup.
If you want a clean stock rom instead you can download one and install with Odin =)

Just ref lash your ROM from a safe kernel (ie, Hydra core or philz) and do a factory reset while still on a safe kernel
It isn't worth the time troubleshooting for you.

If you want to install a safe kernel now like philz you can just try factory reset from recovery before flashing anything and see if it helps...

[Q] P920 Kernels on P925

I've even flashed P920 roms using KDZs and my cellphone signal is non-working :/
I've tried, using the wk bootloader and CMW recoveries from the AIO tool 1.2....
pacman rom - wont even install
baked blackbean - gets stucked in "fastboot 0.5"
Go to the O3D section and download all in one tool 1.2. Make sure you have wk parks bootloaders installed (its option 8) after that you should be able to flash Iodaks kernel, Pesach85's kernel , or Samnos Kernel. O3D and Thrill are exact same phones so anything in O3D development will work on your phone. I have flashed all three of these kernels and know they work on stock builds. JUST DO NOT FLASH THESE KERNELS ON TOP OF YOUR STOCK BOOTLOADERS OR YOU WILL ENCOUNTER A KERNEL PANIC SECURITY ERROR AND PHONE WILL NOT BOOT, NOT EVEN TO RECOVERY.
OsHackings all in one Tool 1.2: http://d-h.st/Ud4
Pesach85's ICS 1.1.8.5 Kernel (V28b V30a version ( it'll work on any V30a,b,c) https://www.dropbox.com/s/3i75x10y8qttv4g/PH85 KERNEL ICS-1.zip

And his revert V28b stock kernel to get ics stock kernel back http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1802661&d=1363204421
Also here's wkparks bootloaders in a flashable zip file.

Hope this helps. I flashed almost every ROM from that development section and I've never had any problems, just don't flash anything for SU760, it won't work right. And also if you use the all in one tool 1.2 to flash a recovery, make sure you flash a gingerbread recovery. Our official ICS releases are flashed on Gingerbread partition. The ICS recoveries in that tool are for Romney based on the SU 760 port and do not read our internal sd card correctly. I personally use option 6 TWRP 2.3. Good luck

Try looking up LGExtract tool and find the LG760 KDZ extract tool. Place the tool in the same folder as your KDZ and it will extract the .bin and .fls files automatically. then flash them with LG flash tool. May be a base and issue, plus make sure you are flashing a Gingerbread recovery with 1.2 tool (use TWRP 2.3 or a NON touch CWM) and wipe both cache and Dalvik Cache, data factory reset and format system or pacman and baked blackbean or any CM10.1 based Rom won't flash right.

Thanks. I actually got bored and just flashed iodaks kernel. Figured if anything went back could just hook up to lg flash to. It worked like a champ of course. I know this question is subjective. But I'm still curious which kernel you (and anyone else) has preferred mostly. Thanks again for the awesome response.

No problem. I'm experimenting around with them. To be quite honest my favorite would be Iodaks kernel, with Pesachs governors, and Samnos OC settings lol! I guess until then I'm stuck flashing back and forth until I find a setting I'm actually content with. I suck at understanding kernels though...I've been trying for days to hit close to 10000 on benchmark but I just can't get this phone above 8700 or 8800 consistantly. I did hit 8900 the other night though lol. Anyways I do think Iodaks is the safest and mist stable kernel, but I never play safe with this phone lol. Samnos seems a lio buggy at the start...no vibration and some other issues but they seem to iron out after a while. Pesachs is somewhere right in between but I have been having some issues with init'd scripts not working and bugging up on me. Bit then again I really am just experimenting a lot so it may just be me lol.
