SO I dropped the NC and the glass broke. Still works, but glass shattered. I found one thread that showed a link to eBay for about $90 for an entire LCD. Does anyone know if one can replace just the glass and save a BUNCH of $$ Times is tough....I searched here, the web, and other nook spots but did not find that answer.
I miss my Nook, reading/surfing on the Atrix just isn't the same...and right after I went to CM7 on the EMM and got everything the way I wanted...
Thanks,
Rog
No, screens are made as a complete component.
Hey everyone,
New here and hoped to get some help right off the bat.
A company i957 (Tab 8.9) was dropped prior to a case being applied and broke the glass on the screen. The LCD is fine but the glass needs replacing. I have already purchased the glass and have the Tab apart. My question is in regards to the fusing process. Is the screen just glued to the LCD surround? Whats the best way to remove it? Simply pry? My biggest worry is it cracks more when a small amount of prying occurs. At this point I don't are about the glass as its toast anyway, just worried about the LCD.
Any help would be hugely appreciated!
I'm not sure if anyone has even done a teardown

I have a similar issue with LCD working but glass cracked. According to this site, it's completely fused together.
http://www.techrepublic.com/photos/cracking-open-the-samsung-galaxy-tab-89/6327263?seq=25
I'm still looking for a pre-fused assembly for my SGH-I957. If you have ever tinkered with replacing the touch for an crapple thingy (iphone/ipod touch), it's completely the same issue. The digitizer and lcd are one with some type of adhesive. However for the crapple thingy, u were able to get the complete assembly, just the glass or just the lcd. If you used glass and lcd non fused, the touch would work but was not very responsive quite a bit. I tried several clear adhesives (very messy) but could not locate the correct one. a few possible ones worked but had a yellowish hue after a while or bubbles in it.
I'm at the point to where ima sell my cracked SGH-I957 and use what little change i get from it towards a replacement one. I hope this was of some help to you.

If you wanted to try and separate the adhesive from them, you can try this: (I am not responsible for any damage caused by this. Procees at own risk ans this will likely damage the LCD)
Take a clothes iron and set it to the lowest temp possible. Place the iron over the glass+lcd fused assembly for 5-10min (what this will do is simulate the heat as if you left the tablet in the car in the heat) it will make the adhesive loose or tacky to where you can attempt to pry the lcd away. Be careful as the lcd is very fragile and will crack very easily.
I DON'T RECOMMEND doing this unless you just want to try it. I did with crapple stuff and only cause 2 dead pixels on the screen. Then went and played with several adhesives. Went through several touch and lcd but I had a set dollar amount I was wiling to blow on that experiment. End result was pony up and buy prefused assembly. Once did that, returned crapple back to lil sis who then sold her crapple device. YA! for her.

So it responds as if the adhesive was fused/stuck in between the lcd and digitizer? Is there any lag or lack of response with the multi-touch? If it works great, I'll order me a digitizer off ebay or amazon and give a stab at it.
Thanks for the info in your post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1894620
Works and feels just like the original. Only without a set of ruddy great scratches from my keys.
Basically the digitizer is held on with strong double sided tape. Its that simple. There are videos on YouTube for the original Galaxy Tab, and the same principle applies.

Thanks! Good to know it wont be like the crapple thing I mentioned above. Just ordered me a digitizer off ebay.
You're welcome. Set yourself an hour to do the changeout, and find somewhere clean & well lit. Good luck!

Well, i ended up getting the touch/digitizer only. Search "Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 P7300 P7310 P7320 Touch Screen Glass Digitizer" and pick your seller. I will note that since I had the at&t version marked by the logo on top right corner., The replacement was OEM so no at&t logo which was fine and it fitted perfectly. You may also find some on amazon and other various part sites.
If you are looking for the LCD screen, search LCD Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 on ebay and sort highest 1st to quickly locate the actual LCD screens. Hope this helps
My Atrix HD was broken after I dropped unexpectedly it from the table Luckily, only its LCD screen was broken so I'm finding place to buy the replacement part. Anyone know where can I bought it with trusted seller and not really expensive
Thanks in advance!
Can't really replace just the screen it's glued to the lcd very good.

There are screens on Ebay for sale, so if there aren't any other options just use your best judgement.
I just replaced mine. I recommend you buy the entire digitizer and not just the glass. It is almost impossible to separate them.

This is the digitizer I used to fix my Dad's Atrix HD. He hasn't had any problems with it, though it's only been installed for about three weeks now.
Same as above, only it comes with an LCD screen too.

I bought from ebay bro. Mine LCD was broken but the glass is fine so only replace the LCD. You can try to find on ebay, there're a lot of seller
However, it's best if you could find an orginal LCD from an AHD since the replacement quality cannot equal the original (about the color, maybe it doesnt have colorboost)

I'll 2nd that. My replacement AHD obviously had a non-stock digitizer and I don't like it. Scratches easy and the sensor part is see thru. The one I posted above is of a higher quality than what my seller used to fix my replacement AHD. I'm probably gonna order a new motherboard-lcd sticky tape and swap screens with my fried board AHD.

My digitizer (glass I suppose) is broken. So it looks like I can get away with exchanging glass only without changing the LCD. I am ordering from the guy you suggested.

Worse thing is that I bought Atrix HD, made a Atrix Maxx HD out of it....found it slow so bought Nexus 4. But that bugger has very little battery life so I reverted back to Atrix Maxx HD. And above all, CarbonRom (@CarbonDev @arrrghhh) made it awesome. It rucking broke after I made a clean install.
Here is how it looks like....

The front bezel comes of the screen quite easily the digitiser and lcd are fused together I just bought one of eBay added it to the front bezel and it works as a screen it's just the digitiser that doesn't seem to work I get no response when I tap it in any way not sure why it isn't working.

That's what I was thinking asked the seller to tell me if they tested it before shipping as their listing says they did. Just wondering if their was anything else I could try to check what the issue is, I have done the whole reseating the cable and zip ties under the digitiser connector as mentioned on a post here not sure it is though lost the link to it.
Hi all,
I recently fell whilst holding my brand new N6 and cracked the screen pretty bad. The digitiser and LCD appear to work OK, so I'm taking the plunge and will try and replace the glass myself.
I've replaced the display module (glass, LCD and digitiser) for a number of family/friend's phones and feel comfortable about working with the small electronics. I've been reading and watching countless tutorials on the removal of the glass from the rest of the display assembly but and yet to find any information specifically about doing this on the N6. Specifically, I'm worried about how the speakers will affect the glass removal process.
If anyone has any N6 specific info, it would be most appreciated. I'm waiting for the replacement glass to arrive, I'll update this thread with how i get on!

Did you try replacing just the glass or the whole display module? What went wrong? I'm also about to replace the display module on the N7 2012, the glass is cracked and half the digitiser doesn't work.

with the iphone it was both the LCD and Digitizer I was replacing and they came together as one................same with the N7, both together, trying to install/remove these separately is suicide unless you have the right tools etc........
Have you bought the LCD/Digitizer toggether inside the silver bezel, I didn't, and I should have.........
basically there was a small cable on the back of the LCD/Digitizer that was present on the old damaged module, but not on the new one I had bought, I tried removing form the old and into the new, plugged in the normal power and screen cables, but then nothing, didn't work, my frustration also resulted in a small crack to the new screen.............
it possible but you need to have patience and the tools, which it sound like you do.......but its much easier already inside the silver bezel...........
the screen was glued into the bezel and removing this was murder, managed it, but had to pick out all the smashed glass bit by bit........
don't let me put you off though, you sound more competent than me........

I haven't bought the replacement display module yet for the Nexus 7. Thanks for the info, think i'll try and get one with a bezel to be on the safe side.
its definitely the way to go as you will just be popping off the back cover, releasing the ribbon cables, removing some screws, peeling back some adhesive tape and that's you.........
and any dings to the bezel will dissapear too............
Removing the LCD ribbon cable on N6 is PITA I don't want to even think how to plug in the new one. The digitizer is easy since there is lock on it but the LCD just plugs in with lots of friction.
Any tips?

Unless you have the right equipment and lots of time buy the whole assembly.
You can watch videos on youtube how complicated is to separate the glass from LCD
£122 repair cost in UK.
Update
I'm experiencing the same problem. I've replaced the digitizers/screens on all versions of the iPhone and also on the Samsung Galaxy S4. I successfully replaced only the glass on some Samsung devices too. I'm wondering if I'll be able to do this with the Nexus 6 if I just buy the $10 replacement glass.
Thanks. Hope to hear your results soon.
EDIT: I've scoured YouTube in search of videos showing how to replace the GLASS ONLY, but I can only find videos showing how to replace the entire digitizer. So I'm desperate for any information on this. Haha.

I was reading ifixit's how to guide. They state that the digitizer is fused to the glass. Possibly that's why everyone stops at this step.....

Can I ask where this is from? I've cracked the glass, screen works fine.
yes the glass repair is possible i am uploading photos of the process i did. i do work for a cell phone repair company and this has been a very common repair. Nexus 6 glass only repair with the use of OCA (optical clear adhesive) and bonded together with an ridge to ridge lamintator and and mini autoclave.
It turns out Motorola Official repair was £128 plus the postage to send them the phone in the first place.
I am unfortunately in the same boat. I sustained probably 15 scratches that my fingernail could get stuck on them all. My phone scraped along an artificial hardwood floor when a dog stepped on it facedown and slid. So I bought some cerium oxide in an attempt to sand down and buff away the scratches. I was not successful, and it looks like I added some more scratches. I'm going to put up with them until I get more, then replace the screen & digitizer probably while also adding a screen protector. I hate the feel of screen protectors though

Impressive. What's your process for separating the cracked glass from the digitizer?
Although I'm sure the OP was asking for a way that doesn't require thousands of dollars worth of specialized equipment.
Has the OP given up on this project? I cracked my glass the other day however the digitizer still works just fine. I wanted to know if there was a do it yourself way to change the crystal without having to purchase a digitizer/crystal combo?
Thanks
