Android 4.2 for Nexus 7 is here!! - Nexus 7 General

Hey guys, not sure if already posted..
But looks like the official android 4.2 is out now for Nexus 7
From Android Headlines:
That’s right, today is becoming a very busy day indeed for those that are Nexus fans and owners. With the news that the Galaxy Nexus is getting its fresh helping of Android 4.2 we were all wondering when the Nexus 7 would be allowed to join the party after all, the N7 did get to the Jelly Bean party first now, didn’t they? There’s no telling just how long you’ll be waiting for the update but the word is that the JOP40C, the same build for the Galaxy Nexus, is now making its way to Nexus 7s all over the place.
As always, there is an alternative to updating your device if you have absolutely no patience and quite frankly, we don’t blame you one bit. If you want to know how to get 4.2 on your Nexus 7 then read on and download this zip file before you get started!
First of all download the zip file above, do NOT rename this file.
Reboot your Galaxy Nexus while holding the Volume Down button – this will take you to the fastboot menu
From there, hit start and then hit the Volume Up key to get to Recovery and hit the Power Button
If you’re stock – with no CWM – then you should see a red exclamation point, after this hit the Power Button and the Volume Up button
From here, select “apply update from adb”
Then go ahead and open up a command prompt – terminal in Linux and Mac OS X – navigate to the same directory as the downloaded zip and input this command: adb sideload 094f6629314a.signed-nakasi-JOP40C-from-JZO54K.094f6629.zip
Reboot and then you should be in Jelly Bean 4.2!
Of course, if you’re like a whole lot of other Nexus 7 owners out there and have gone a little rogue and installed a custom recovery and so on you can just simply copy it to your device and install it like you would any other zip!
Have fun and let us know how it goes in the comments!

Seriously? did you happen to check the thread below yours?

Also I see some copy & paste work in OP lol

Thank!

Worked for me, OTA Rootkeeper, flashed in CWM, adb in and removed recover-from-boot.p, OTA Rootkeeper restore.
It seems to be moving a little slow, I think it's updating media stuff or such, so if it takes a few minutes to settle in don't freak out. It took about 5 minutes for me and it's been fine since.
Probably have to reflash recovery, not sure. Either way, easy.
Few more notes.. Apps which had FORCED themselves "to sd" are probably uninstalled now, you'll need to reinstall 'em with TiBu or Market. I had 3 like this, all three were "gone". Just the app, the data is fine if you use TiBu.
Nova's dock isnt' working for me, it's a dead zone. Not sure what's going on there. Might be a bug in Nova now, never seen this before. EDIT: Check for a Beta update; fixed already
Someone on IRC said they saw files move around on their storage, but so far I haven't see any app issues, but any SD backups might back up everything again if it's moved. TiBu, etc, are all happy, so..
DO NOT ADD A USER. It has made my Nexus 7 slow as hell. If I find a way to fix it I'll post.

When can someone post a video of 4.2 on the N7

Hey guys my N7 is completely stock is there anyway I can put 4.2 on my N7 or do I have to wait until it is pushed out ota and if I have to wait does anyone know how long it might be THANKS AND GOD BLESS YOU

I installed the leaked copy of the 4.2 keyboard a while back. Today, the 4.2 update I'm trying to manually install in recovery is failing. I assume the two are linked. Is there a way to nuke the 4.2 keyboard instance off the tablet so I can properly install the 4.2 update? Or is this grounds for backing up my data and flashing a full 4.1.2 and then upgrading to 4.2?

You can install the old 4.1.2 keyboard and reupdate again. OR you can reinstall the entire OS to 4.1.2, then upgrade to 4.2 again

And I don't know if it's related or not, but Nova keeps screwing up my widgets. They're gone, disconnected, or duplicated.. I had 5 of the same widget in places where other widgets had been.....

CWM zip install keeps failing for me, just saying aborted. I've removed some of the system apps I didn't need, but edited the updater.sh script to also remove checking for system apps. Any way I can find where the failure is?

I was on stock 4.1.2 and just flashed via CWM and it worked flawlessly.
Also, I don't seem to have any speed issues with 2 users. The switch screen takes a few seconds but it works like a charm, now my wife can have her area and i can have mine (yay)

[Q] LG/VZW Update (8/4/11) for Revo

Ok, I downloaded the VZW/LG update on 8/4/11, but once downloaded it reboots into recovery.. I have Clockworkmod Recovery installed. I don't know where the downloaded file is to install it. I assume if I had stock recovery that it would have automatically installed. Can anyone help?
After reboot from CWM, the update screen comes up and says Update Failed or Incomplete.
Also just a note, the update isn't Gingerbread, it is bug fixes and a couple system app updates.
http://support.vzw.com/pdf/system_update/revolution.pdf
I downloaded the update... There is an options page where you can choose to defer or deny the update. I clicked deny.

I just deferred until 2099.
Sent from my Cubed VS910 4G.
What is the update? It kept resetting my wife's Revolution and waking us up, it hasn't hit my Revolution yet though.
It wouldn't b gingerbread, would it?
Thanks!
Nevermind, I now see the answer in another thread

Anyone wondering about the OTA please read this!
If you have CWM installed, you won't be able to take the OTA.
For now, I'd suggest staying away from it until I get a chance to look it over first.
Also, if you're running my decrapified ROM, installing the OTA would bootloop your device since decrapified is deodexed and the OTA would be odexed.
In the next day or so (whenever I get access to the OTA zip file), I'll disassemble it and see what changes it contains (like if it has a new recovery, or new kernel, or changes the board configuration) I'll post back here to let y'all know.
UPDATE
It appears that the update is safe to install for those running the revo stock (not decrapified) ROM.
It makes changes to quite a lot-- new boot.img, new LTE RIL, new CDMA RIL, new LTE baseband ROM, changes to the recovery system to bring it in line with normal Android (still not very 'normal', but normal as in "now contains an installrecovery.sh that android can use"), and a bunch of new ODEX files.
Let me stress this and make it perfectly clear: this update will NOT work if you're running decrapified ROM.
In the next day or so, I'll make an updated decrapified ROM (see? I was waiting for a good reason to make an update ) that will include the OTA in it.
Until then, relax and keep hitting that "ignore" button
Hey, what does the new boot animation look like? The only other thing that interests me, is the keyboard pop up in messenging. I hate that.

It bothers me too! I will look into if the new Mms.apk will work with decrap 1.1, if it does I will put it in my theme page.
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA Premium App
There are several things that I do not like about the Decrapified ROM
1. The 3 buttons on the bottom (Phone / App Drawer / Browser) sometimes vanish. Only way to fix it is to reboot
2. When you dock the phone into the car mount, the Navigation doesn't do anything. It would be nice to launch your own GPS app or the Google Navigation app. There are other activities that do nothing.
Everything is is great. Love the Google Integration and Love the missing Verizon Crapware on it (VZ Navigator, VZ Music, etc)
If ur using adw go into adw theme settings and reapply your them and the bottom buttons will deappear

Just flash it via revotoolkit...
The baseband image doesn't appear to change much at all, it's only a minor change it appears...
Mine wouldn't take any deferral time greater than 24 hours....and out of the blue it started about 10 hours after I deferred for 24....
Mine rebooted to Clockwork, I selected reboot, it came back up, displayed a page noting the failure, and everything appears to be working fine -- 30 minutes and counting. We'll see if it tries again...

Yeah, I PM'd you on that.. revo tool kit not working, download file only 36k, even attempted to download the .tar (via Windows7) described in the output in the program and the countdown just keeps looping. There may be something wrong with the files or the file host...
disregard.. just attempted download in Dolphin Browser on my phone and it is downloading the 6.73mb file recovery-stock.tar from 199.167.134.110/private/iomonster/files/revo-cwm/recovery-stock.tar.gz
So i should be able to follow same instructions I used to manually install cwm to install this, correct? Or I could just wait for the new decrap ROM, but I am very impatient.. lol
I am giving up!!!!!
ok.. getting really mad now. I successfully and manually flashed the stock recovery image and verified that with revo toolkit. So applied the update and it boots into stock recovery but not even half way through the arrow becomes an " ! " and reboots and says update failed or incomplete. So now I will put back CWM and wait for the next version of decrap.

I'm running Decrap1.1 and couldn't stop the attempted upgrade, since mine wouldn't respond to any attempts to defer. So, I went poking around under the hood. Just on a hunch, I used Titatium Backup to freeze a program called Verizon Package Installer, thinking that might interupt any attempt to actually update. The update loader ran and failed, gave me a warning, and I haven't seen it again since. I also am having ZERO problems with the phone. It's like it went away and isn't coming back.
Do you think my package loader freeze might do that?

Bionic ICS Leak v 6.7.2233 (Android 4.0.4) [download link]

This is a leak for the 6.7.2233 update (Android 4.0.4) for the Bionic.
You must be on stock .905 to use this.
You must flash from STOCK RECOVERY.
Use of Safestrap is NOT recommended.
You may need to FXZ to .902, take the OTA update to .905 and then flash from STOCK RECOVERY.

installed ICS
Installed 6.7.2233 and it was pretty flawless. I flashed back to .902 and did an OTA update to .905. I haven't rooted yet but I hear there is a way to do it.
Couple of things I noticed
On stock launcher, when plugging in webtop it doesn't work. I got ADW and it works fine now.
Bluetooth seems to work better, wifi is WAY faster (I know this by doing speed tests a lot before and after). I can't speak for 4G yet but will report back when I know for sure how it's doing.
CPU is now running at 1200MHz vice 1000 and it doesn't seem that it auto adjusts to lower speeds like previous versions did so we will see how battery life does. Battery life seems fine so far though.
Any pics or video? Please post!
can someone please tell me how to update to this ? i have already unrooted with voodoo and when i go into recovery to install update it tells me it cant verify signature. i am on 905

In those pas 2 weeks, whenever I hit a 4g zone, no data at all. Today I drove through different zones and was switching between the 2 without issue! Hopefully this update will help solve problems some of us have been having with a data connection.

It's surprisingly easy, but I can understand the daunting task if you've never done any playing with the guts
Download the link at the front page to your computer.
Connect your phone to your computer and click on the "Mass Storage" Setting when the USB options come up.
Copy the downloaded .zip file to your external SD card. Don't worry about unzipping it or anything.
Once it's down, turn your phone off, then turn the phone back on while holding both the up and down arrows. This will boot your phone into what's called "Stock Recovery". To navigate Stock, you click down to move through the options, then up to select a choice.
Click down once (iirc) until your highlight Recovery, then click up to select
This will place you in Recovery mode, if there is nothing on your phone but an icon of android and an exclamation point, hold both of the volume buttons again.
From here, you will use the volume buttons to navigate, and the power button to select items.
Go to, Install update from external storage.
Highlight the .zip file you put there earlier
Wait 5-10 minutes.
Enjoy your ice creamy goodness 2-3 weeks before everyone else. Once you start it up it will "optimize the apps" for a bit, this is natural ICS behavior.
Now that you've flashed your own rom in custom mode, you can start looking at rooting and flashing custom roms. Personally I'd hold out until the developers have time to parse out ICS and update their roms. I believe even the current unofficial "ICS" roms are based on Gingerbread kernels that has been heavily modified.
Here you go folks. I put it up on my server which is much faster.
http://playeraffinity.com/files/Blur_Version.5.9.905.XT875.Verizon.en.US.zip
I was going to put it on a download page and all that jazz, but I know you all want to get right to downloading it so all i ask is if you have any free time, check out the site my server is for, Player Affinity. There's a lot of interesting articles on there and you might find something worth sharing.
Once ICS is official on the bionic, I'll get cracking at an Affinity ROM for it.

Yesterday i did same thing, only i found some different thread. It must be somewhere on nexus 4 forum. I was on PA 3+ and it worked very well. Only remember what you need to go to recovery and clear catch before booting, because in my case i couldn't boot until i wiped catch. And to enter recovery mode. You need to go enter fastboot, when choose recovery, and when you will see "dead android" you need to hold power button and then press (only one time, not hold) volume up and then you will see menu you can release power button. No need to press vol up and vol down. Just vol up, and press it only one time. Yesterday my mistake was then i always was holding power+vol up and phone was always turning off. Maybe this info will help for someone.

It is under step 4.
Is there also a way to just unroot without deleting all data?
All I did was replace the customrecovery.img and installing supersu. Cant I just delete that?
I have a battery problem and I need to send the phone back, but Im afraid they will drop warranty because of me rooting it (only to try to calibrate battery -,- )
And what about 4.3 ?
If you reflash your android device to 4.2.2, will it ask to install the update (4.3?)
So, did anyone tried it? does it works? my friend asks me to unroot his nexus, and i want to be sure, that i'll not kill his device

Tried, and so far it seems like I've bricked mine. When I'm supposed to see a dead Android, I have an exclamation mark instead of the "open stomach Android".
Does this work for returning to stock 4.3?
I created this account just to thank you!
It works wonders! save my life cause my nexus 4 was doomed when I installed Cynogenmod with the Cynogenmod Installer.
My wifi not working. Phone not responding when I receive a call and many more problems! Thanks to your guide I'm able to restore it perfectly.
One small problem when I using this guide is one of the steps require us to type in "4.2UnrootNexus4.zip" (actually just type "4.2UnrootNexus4)

[Q] Anyone succesfully reverted back to 4.2.2?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2644083
according to that, you can revert to stock. im assuming 4.2.2? i want to go back to use the app that gives you recovery. (which is not yet available for kitkat) to use cm11

Remember to do a full wipe, because the applications from 4.4.2 to 4.2.2 they will not be worked and the phone will have a bootloop
Will this work if I'm on stock 4.4.2 and want to downgrade to 4.2.2?
Forgot to add I'm not rooted sorry

Damn I wanted to try the MIUI Rom but don't want the hassle. I'm guess this is the only way?
I don't think he has a d959 version of the miui yet. They are so close to getting cm11 ready for a beta. Radio is now working just gotta get the kernel to run stable. But as fast as they are coming along I wouldn't be surprised if its ready by the weekend.

Gerett needs the 4.2 files and MIUI should work for the d959. I'm following the two Rom threads by the min. lol

That's my fault. He asked for them a couple weeks ago and I got sidetracked with my son and work has been hell. But thanks for reminding me. I just sent him what he needed.
Tested the first d959 miui. No go as of right now. Boots but no screen. Just black screen. Still a little more work but I'm sure soon.
haven't had MIUI on any phone since I had my Note 2, and kinda miss it!
Gerret had a sweet miui rom on that phone, so I know how great it would be if it works out the Flex..
I was having the same issue and i read a post in another forum here on xda (can't remember which one or i would link you to it) that used QPST force the phone into download mode. I also was unable to get it into download mode using adb. At any rate, it was fairly simple to do and i have done it multiple times since then. Just Google a working download of QPST, install it, and then follow the instructions below.
1) make sure that you're port settings I the hidden menu on your phone are set too diag mode. Data can be enabled for them as well, but diag is a must.
2) set the dmapp usage setting to ON in the hidden menu as well. The hidden menu is accessed by dialing 3845#*XXX# in the dialer where XXX is replaced by the three digits of your model number e.g. for a T-Mobile G Flex (D959) it would be 3845#*959#.
3) connect the phone to the computer you installed QPST on and wait for the proper drives to install.
4) open QPST configuration and click "add new port". Select the lg diagnostics port and then click the start services menu tab.
5) start the Software Download service and then make sure that you're phone was properly recognized by the service.
6) click the multi-image tab and set your window to look as the photo below.
7) once the window looks like the photo, click the start button and then hit the abort button as soon as possible so as to not actually do anything other than just reset the phone.
8) if all goes as it's supposed to, your phone should have been reset into download mode. I hope this helped.

Got to be one of the slowest downloads for such a small file in the history of man.
Painful to say the least.
For me, almost half a gig is something other than small.

And you're complaining in the OP's thread, why? Blame Dev-Host not them. Lol.
Not complaining, just stating a fact.

With all do respect to opinions I would greatly appreciate if this thread is used for and remains a hub for questions and support. With that being said I have taken the liberty of uploading the file into XDA's server for downloading. Thanks for do us a easy way to update to v4.4.4 with stock rom! :good:
Just want to thank the op for making it so easy
It's a good idea but a little long winded when you can just flash a rooted stock ROM.zip via recovery.

Yes, it is not a requirement to be running 4.4.3. Let me know if you have any difficulties.
Out of Memory
I'm getting "error: out of memory" shortly after the update starts. It sends and writes the bootloader then reboots into the bootloader and gives me the error. What am I doing wrong?

A couple troubleshooting methods to help with your issue. First try booting into the recovery and wiping cache. Also try using a different USB cable as well as a different port. If this does not resolve your issue please contact me and I will find a resolution.

Thank you for bringing the issue to my attention, and no problem I'm glad I was able to help.
I also don't want to offend the developer as he did spend a lot of time on this. I do respect him, but I wanted to share my opinion. The last couple of OTA's I just downloaded the update straight from the OTA thread to my phone, I then flashed them in TWRP. I didn't loose TWRP and it even gives an option to install SuperSU binaries if it doesn't see them.
However, I do want to stay on topic. I'm curious, for people who use xposed, would this tool allow an update without needing to uninstall modules? I'm just trying to see the differences between your method and flashing an OTA. Also, would people with custom kernels be able to update as well? If they can, then this would prove useful for those with custom kernels.
Again, I don't mean to offend the OP. I'm just curious about the differences/benefits.

Oh ok. That would make sense why the file is so big. So then, isn't this basically deleting the -w from the batch file and flashing normally? Well and retaining root.
