Helping a soldier - Motorola Droid Bionic

I have a droid bionic. I am in the army and i am in afghanistan. I have a stock bionic and i have the recent ICS update from verizon (no root). I have tried to do the unclock thing and it will not work i can not write the new code to my device and when i push read the box with the code is red. I dont know what the problem is. I get an error from radio 256 on radiocomm. My device shows that it is connected with a green dot. Will the unlock allow me to use my phone on the MTN carrier in afghanistan, and what am i doing wrong that i cant write the code to my device?

I take it you are trying to unlock the phone to use on the local Afghanistan wireless carrier? You might read the using Bionic on T-Mobile threads for tips on the process even though it is a different carrier. I don't know if you need to be rooted, but I'm sure you would need a sim from MTN and proper codes for their service.

thank you for the reply but i have read the tmobile forum and that is where i got all my information. What codes do i need and where do i need to put them.

I think you have to get the codes from MTN and you will need a SIM card from MTN. You use the dialer and enter *#*#4643#*#* to get to the Phone Info area which is where the code from MTN is entered. You'll need to know if MTN is GSM or CDMA, etc. At least I think that is the process. I haven't tried any of this. You may need to be rooted, which doesn't hurt your phone in any way. You can search for 'bionic motofail ics' or 'bionic razr edge' for easy rooting methods.

Here is a link to another thread that contains some good info.
http://androidforums.com/motorola-d...an-do-cmda-4lte-gsm-hspa-image-intensive.html

Ok the problem is that when I go to radiocomm and i push read on my device the box with the numbers will be red so it will not allow me to write the new codes for the gsm unlock. I have the sim and when i push the *#*# menu the right numbers will pop up in the smsc field. It just does not allow me to edit the field in radiocomm to change the first numbers to what i need to. Any suggestions

I am rooted and if I go to that screen, I can change the numbers. Rooting may allow you to change the numbers. You may want to pm one of the authors of the Bionic on Tmobile or Bionic on Pageplus for more specific instructions. I've never tried to get on another carrier. I'm surprised no one with experience has chimed in on this topic. Good luck.

I got my G1 now what?

Hello peeps, i finally received my G1 today... Happy!
Two things i would like to know i do have a t-mobile sim here but i dont get t-mobile service in Australia so i will need to unlock it.
What would be the best way of going about this... could you point me in the best direction for the cheapest and safest Australian Unlock codes , other thing is somewhere i read its possible to skip the gmail bit and activate it later also someone said to me it was possible to start the wireless connection to enter those gmail details so i dont need a sim with data....
So main question is with a t-mobile sim here is it possible to access the phone without having it unlocked and without t-mobile service?
The other thing is i have heard going around is that dev images have unlock strings would this allow me to use a Australian sim to enter the details at the start without having to pay for unlock??
Call t-mobile to get the phone unlocked, they are quite relaxed with the unlock codes, secongany dev based rom something like cyan' s rom will allow you to skip the g-mail reg when you boot up and connect via wi-fi, even hero roms have that option
I tried messaging t-mobile but they said i needed proof of perches because i don't have a t-mobile account

Unlocking Droid 3

Hi, I saw lot people asking about "How to unlock Droid3", So first of all there is no tool which can unlock the droid 3 for now.
Well I purchased two Droid 3 handset from Ebay U.S both are locked to Verizon. I bring back the handset to India. The way which I know and found on this forum is first you need unlock code from Verizon or in my case I also purchased the codes from ebay U.S at $3.55 single code (you can negotiated with seller if have need two codes).
In order to enter the code just switch ON the phone and it ask for enter the PIN. You will see successful text if the code is correct otherwise unsuccessful text. Then restart the device and you will not see that PIN enter menu again. (Please don't enter the code more than 2 times, ask the seller again if the code is not working, Sometimes they provide two codes).
Afterwards Just flash the XT883 ROM (which is Chinese ROM). Then you are good to go both GSM and CDMA work networks great. Here is one of thread on XT883. One more thing if only want to use CDMA sim then you don't need unlock code, the code only for GSM, just flash XT883 ROM and use your CDMA sim card.
Well I don't know this thread is helpful or relevant, If not Mods can delete this thread.
You're on GSM900/800, UMTS2100, right? Was the Chinese ROM necessary for functionality? Why do you think Maverick and Steeldroid aren't using it as a base?
In GSM 1800/900 and CDMA/EVDO Rev A 800/1900 or (CDMA2000 1X & 1xEV-DO Rev. A). Well it's bug free I think.

Koodo phone won't be used on Rogers network.

I was planning on giving my uncle my ace and unfortunately when I put his sim in and try to connect to Rogers APN it says I'm unable to register on to the network. I put my sim in from my One V and it worked on that phone. I'm assuming it's carrier locked, how exactly can it be fixed if at all. Thanks.

the phone is locked. you need to get an unlock code. look on ebay or your local craigslist. you should be able to get it done for under $20

I've heard that cellunlocker.net works. It costs some money, but from what I've heard, it sounds pretty good!
Why I thought this wasn't the case is that my phone never asks for a code to be unlocked like these sites say, so I'm a little confused as to whether my phone is locked or unlocked.

There's probably a hidden menu that you have to access. I think if you get your code, specific for your device, they should give you clear instructions on how to get there... But they probably won't do it until you pay for it . I'll try and search around and see what I can find.

Alrighty! Here is the thread that you might be looking for. It's a bunch of hidden menus, and one of them might be the one you are looking for....

I think u should edit ur apn configuration and use rogers setting.. may be u can find the rogers setting in their web..
You didn't specify which ROM the Ace was running. If its a stock Samsung ROM, I'd expect it to ask for a code, but with CM7 or 9, it won't since those build lack some libraries to perform the actual unlock.
To get your code look into the bml5 method.

Cannot manually provision phone

Hello,
I have been trying to activate my new phone on ring plus. It is an LG LS991. I am on the ZV6 firmware. I have done a device swap and have been in contact with Ringplus. They said that everything that is OK on their end and my phone will not provision. I tried to enter ##MSL# and nothing happens. I do not see an edit menu. I am entering my actual MSL code just to clarify that. Is there a way to get a hidden menu on the G4 that will allow me to edit the MDN & MIN numbers?
Thanks!!!
Try ##873283#
Thanks did not work for me though. Would restoring a .tot and maybe reset it if its a software glitch?
##data#
Cannot really access anything from that menu, I am just returning the phone today because something is wrong with it.
LG g4 works on SIm card So u cannot provsion it mannualy
U need a Sprint Blank simcard to acitvate it
did you happen to modify your carrier folder from the sim unlock mod? Changing the permission of node.db and node.db-journal to all read write execute fixed the provision issue for me.

Any head way on this? How can you access the service menu to edit the MDN and MSID?
Thanks
I'm having the same problem. Can't get this G4 to work on old Sprint SERO - ESN is right but I can't update MIN or MDN any way I try. Anyone figure this out and could help?
thanks

Yeah, I had tried that. But it doesn't seem that any of the information will save properly; after a reboot, it still does not give me the right MDN. That is with or without the sim card. With the sim card ii, it gives me the last four of the cards ICCID as the phone number with 000-000-XXXX. Not sure if G4 just will not work b/c I don't have a SIM programmed (it is just an unused sprint sim)? But my sero plan is 3g only, really don't need the lte stuff or sim at all. Without sim card I just get MDN and phone number as 'unknown'.
I think this is probably easier with boost or another carrier; curious if ANYONE has ever activated a g4 on SERO basic?

is sero a gsm carrier or cdma
Its CDMA. Its true sprint, its just an old employee plan. I never added in the LTE/4G service.

CDMA Workshop alternatives and can I get data on other carriers?

So, I've recently rooted and unlocked my device and I wanted to know if I can bring it to another carrier and still get data.? I'm using the LS991 Sprint version. I also wanted to know if there are any good CDMA Workshop alternatives; it's really expensive and I'm only gonna be using on a few devices.
Dfs
So you rooted (doesn't really matter with respect to carrier support) and you unlocked it (that's what matters with respect to carrier support) - so you put in a SIM card for the carrier you want, set the APN data (use Shortcut Master if needed, there's a version specifically modded for the LS991 directly available in my post HERE - might be a good idea to read that post as well since that's what I did myself.
Worse comes to worse if you have no luck because you unlocked your LS991, consider installing the global LS991 ROM (whether it's Lollipop ZV6 or Marshmallow ZV9 or ZVA - if you install ZVB you can never go back to anything prior so be aware of that) which will work much better for other carriers than using the unlock mod so many of us have done in the past.
Hindsight being what it is, if I knew about the global ROM when I got this G4 recently I wouldn't have mucked around with all the unlocking crap and the carrier partition at all for any reason because just installing the global ROM (or modifying build.prop to allow for global unlocked operation) is way more useful and less damaging to the phone. Modifying the build.prop isn't necessarily a cakewalk but, since someone else has already done it for others and posted the global ROM(s) for Lollipop and Marshmallow (as .img files you flash using the Send_Command.exe/dd method) it's really not a big thing anymore.
If you muck up flashing an .img file you can typically just use LGUP and a TOT file to get things working again so it's relatively safe overall, but if you muck up the unlock and trash the carrier partition content the phone will end up being pretty much useless unless you have that information safely backed up someplace (I'd say multiple backups in multiple locations, to be honest).
Anyway, if you truly want the phone to be capable of working on other carriers, my suggestion is go for the global ROM but that's just my own personal opinion on the matter. I'm using tabp0le's MellowMallow ZVB global ROM on my LS991 and T-Mobile LTE works just fine for me, for the record. It did take a little work - I wrote about how I got the full phone/data working in that post with Shortcut Master - but it does work.
Thanks for the help!
One last question, how did you get other carriers to let you activate the phone? Everytime I try they ask me imei then tell me my phone won't work on their network.
Well I've had service with T-Mobile in the past (not currently but will again soon), I have a bunch of T-Mobile microSIM cards because whenever they put the SIM card activation kits on sale for $.99 or sometimes even free (rare but it happens) I usually grab 3 at a time so I have 'em around for testing purposes. T-Mobile doesn't require me to provide any info to them, and even if I go to their website right now and input my IMEI number it'll say it's not recognized, etc but it's not relevant: it works, and that's what matters.
Most carriers don't actually require you to provide the IMEI for any reason as long as you can get one of their microSIM cards (or nanoSIM with adapter) and then get service without having to contact them. T-Mobile is somewhat unique in that process I suppose. With this SIM card I have (it's never been activated) I can go to their website and sign up for service right now and it'll be active in 10 minutes or less, sometimes when I've activated service (it's prepaid so I don't necessarily keep it month to month, sometimes I choose some other service for testing) it's done before I even sign out of their website, like 30 seconds or less and wham, the phone beeps telling me service is working.
So, the advice is: get a SIM card for the phone from the carrier you're interested in and go from there, not sure what else to suggest honestly.

You good sir are a god among men, phone and data are working like a charm. Now I can tell sprint to go **** themselves!
glad it worked for you. MY experiences with ls991, i am using it nvmode. zv6 rooted works for me with cdma data. but data doesnt work with zv9 or zva. global rom doesnt work unless, I edit build.prop target carrier to SPR . it is open to use it as global mode. I am using it in cdma nv mode.. not with any sim..

Ruim is basically used when it comes to cdma sim card.
"Removable User Identity Module (R-UIM) is a card developed for cdmaOne/CDMA2000 ("CDMA") handsets that extends the GSM SIM card to CDMA phones and networks. To work in CDMA networks, the R-UIM contains an early version of the CSIM application."
Your is at&t 4g gsm card. [emoji4]
Check your build.prop and search for
ro.build.target_operator: OPEN
Most probably for global mode open works
For making it work on cdma nv, i have set it to SPR
You can tweak with it by changing to options, it will also change signal bar and 4g symbol like at&t
These will show a Standered international 4G data icon for 3G/HSPA+ and LTE for LTE.
ro.build.target_county: CA
ro.build.target_operator: TLS
These will show a standered international 3G data Icon for 3G/HSPA+ and 4G for LTE (Messes up settings menu pretty bad)
ro.build.target_county: SK
ro.build.target_operator: SKT
If you want the AT&T 4G and 4G LTE Icons.
ro.build.target_county: US
ro.build.target_operator: ATT

My fav cdma tools are qpst, cdma workshop, dfs, revskill and bit advance is qxdm All are freely available. I cant say which one is best hahah. Trust me for me, all of them worked at some instance when i was stuck. Revskill is great with htc finding spc. Though i used dfs mostly.
