All camera Apps show inverted image in KFHD. - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive rooted my KFHD, tried fxzoom camera and fastboot camera. But the image and UI on the camera application is inverted 180 degrees.
Any app that will work fine with the front camera?

https://developer.amazon.com/sdk/fire/best-practices.html#SettingOrientation
The default orientation for the Kindle Fire HD 7" is ROTATION_270 which is 180 degrees off from other Android tablets, including the non-HD Kindle Fires.
They goofed and put the camera upside down. When the Kindle Fire HD is upside down (camera at the bottom) the camera is right side up.
It is a source of untold grief for Kindle Fire HD Developers.

is there a solution to this issue yet?
MY KF HD 8.9 is currently running cm 10.1-20130405 - unofficial build. The camera orientation is still off 180 degrees. would be nice if we could get this issue resolved. as video chat is awkward, and the camera is nearly useless in this state. Other than that one issue, the device works flawlessly with CM 10.1

Found a bug to enable 1080p in mirroring mode (glitchy)

Hi all,
I could not sleep thinking of using chrooted linux on my 47" 1080p LCD, fine, but we a re limited to the hdmi mirroring, which is 800x480 stretched to fill the screen.
Thinking about the video player, which does proper 1080p output I tried to fool the system somehow with video playing and task switching, menus, back btn presses, and found something:
Using temasek´s kang + ironkrnl #251 32mb hack, qemu lcd density 210
You start playing a video, can be through native video player or mxplayer, HW or SW mode, then you press menu once or twice to show the options, the video freezes for a moment. then you press back twice rapdly, VOILA, you have a working gallery (works until you flip the phone to portrait, this resets the display to normally scaled screen) in 1080p in the lower half of the screen.
If you were using mxplayer, the top half of the screen will have the player controls as they were on the phones screen during video playback. everything is repeated side by side almos three times (I think it´s the difference in resolution being compensated in the framebuffer or some sort of scaling bug).
All in all, does someone have any idea on how to invoke a mirrorless 1080p picture on hdmi? (or mirrored and downscaled/croppped on the phones screen), apparently only gallery is capable of displaying in 1080, any other app works in the phones screen but the image keeps frozen on hdmi with sound ok.
Imagine chrooted linux in 1080 with BT mouse and KB!
Pictures attached:
edit: tried with 1202221503-ETaNa_48 kernel and could not reproduce it, later will try with etana 64 and other ironkrnl
What a great little bug. It would be nice to have it actually run at 1080p for the Android screen and things like the word processor. Would make using the phone as a mini computer so much better.
Great find dude...!!

Sould I post this at Development section? Can some mod move this thread to dev? I think it will be more useful there.

HDMI output not full screen

I just got the B&N HDMI out adapter for Nook HD+
I'm seeing the output on my panasonic plasma as just a little wider than 4x3.
It's also cropping off the top and bottom a bit.
My phone has HDMI out and it has settings to adjust the output to fit my plasma.
Does the Nook HD+ not do full screen or am I missing something?
I see no customization controls for the HDMI out.
Also if I play a movie, it too does not fit the screen fully on the tv.
Running verygreen CM 10.1 6/30 build on internal (not sdcard)
I can't do anything to change main screen for running apps, but for videos with mx player if I change setting to stretch (vertical) then change my plasma to stretch horizontal (horizontal fill) it looks proper and fills the screen,
though it does cut off just a little bit on the sides.
I guess that's how everybody uses it??
The few times I have used HDMI it has fit my screen. I have been thinking of trying to switch it to VGA to use an old monitor and was wondering if I would have issues like what you described.

thanks for replying.
so when you ran it, it filled your 16x9 flat screen fully edge to edge on all sides?
What build of CM are you running?
I'm thinking it might be something in the build of CM 10.1 I'm running.
You might be ok doing that (VGA) if you run the resolution changer app.
Yes it filled my flat screen edge to edge but I used Carbon and Stock never CM. That could be the difference.

I also use the TV settings to adjust the picture to fill the screen.

[Q] Screen Orientation in Landscape for Latest CM 11

Anyone else having issues with the way the screen rotates in the 12/20 build of CM 11 (cm-11-20131220-UNOFFICIAL-tate.zip ) I did not have an issue with the first beta build of 4.4 (cm-11-20131126-UNOFFICIAL-tate.zip ) The screen rotated correctly with the 11/26 version. Apps that default to landscape are upside down now in that version on the KF HD.

I found the following post from Hashcode dated 12/5 and maybe that is what has happened with the 12/20 build of CM 11:
"Next build will have some changes to the device.
In a discussion with @twa_priv we decided to stop fighting the rotation woes so that the camera is rotated up in default landscape. The setting to force the rotation this way is very buggy and just doesnt work well enough.
So instead, the new default landscape rotation will place the camera on the bottom edge of the device. While not optimal, it does fix rotation in every app / launcher that I've tested."

[Bug report] Front camera image messed when recording video

I'm using the latest Nightly of Omni Rom 4.4.2-20140312-i9300-NIGHTLY in my Galaxy S3 i9300.
When I switch to front camera and record a video, the image is all messed up (see attachment). Although, the recorded video is fine. This happens only when recording a video using the front camera.
Looks like the height and width dimensions are flipped relative to what they should be. Check your libcamera or equivalent.

Thanks for the answer. I was hoping this could reach the developers, since I'm no familiar with the code neither have an idea of how to do this.

[Q] Full HD Camera issue ARHD 83.1

Hello everyone.
Today i noticed a strange thing with the camera. When i record a video in Full HD there's a problem with the colors. It is like the color was detached from the object, i have a screenshot from a video of a circular object with many colorful circles on it and all of them are in the shades of grey and the colors are moved to the right so one half of the circles are on the right edge of the image and another half reemerges on the left side. Really not easy to describe, sorry. It doesn't happen when i lower the resolution to 720p. I'm thinking about going back to Viper 7.0.2, but i'm wondering if there's a way to fix this.

I have the same issue. It only occurs when recording in full HD. Any ideas?

I've found the solution in android development thread, use HDR instead of Auto in camera settings.
The issue has to do with the latest camera update for M7 model. The software doesn't seem to work nicely on M7, it affected all M7 including stock, non-root models. I tested both my M7 (rooted & custom kernel) with a completely stocked M7, they both showed weird colours on recorded videos.
So I uninstalled the update instead. Strangely after uninstalling it, Google Play no longer allow me to update it again.
