[EDIT] DICE player now works
[EDIT] MX Player now works
FYI...
Currently MX Player installs but says unsupported Android version and exits.
Dice Player won't install.
This may be important to you if you have movies with SRT subtitles as the stock movie player does not support them.
... Or for playing other various codecs.
I'm sure the two players mentioned above will work soon though.

Moboplayer works. I installed it after I uninstalled Dice Player to see of a reinstall would help. It didn't help because Dice Player won't install.
BSPlayer working fine for me.
Congratulations. Welcome to the world of Day 1 upgrade problems.
Next time, click cancel, wait a week, and most of the most common apps will have been updated....
Mobo works for me both before and after the 4.2 update.
Update diceplayer to 2.0.17
Android 4.2 is supported now.
I found VPlayer works as well under 4.2.

/\ /\ /\ /\ /\ THIS.
VLC works perfectly
DicePlayer just got a 4.2 update. Downloading now.
Dice is updated now. I prefer MX so I use Dice only until the update comes for MX.

while i love CM7 it's a pain that i can't use mkv files like i could when i had samsung based rom.
is there anyway to solve it?
or do i have to use some other player do watch mkv files with subs
Try rockplayer. Its in the market the free vs comes with ads but work flalessly
Using rockplayer is what is recommended on CM7 FAQ but I never got mkv to work with the player either. I tried hardware render but it crashes out the phone and software render lags. This happened on any version of CM7 from last Feb. to testing out build 22 - 26.

Just tried MX Player on my new Xoom 2, because VPlayer wasn't working, and I find it great so far. Have you tried it?
vplayer and daroon player are the best for streaming but dice is best for local hd content

MX is the best non-proprietary video player I've used . I wish Google incorporated all of the standard video codecs and made a solid video app. One of the few things I miss from Touchwiz is that the stock video player could play any file without having to re-encode. Also, the video never stuttered or pixelated. MX is the closest thing I've come to the stock Samsung app.
For some reason, the HTC One seems to have poor video codec support. My Galaxy Nexus seems to be able to play 1080p mkv smoothly while on the HTC One it doesn't seem to play at all. MX Player and mono player play them but not smoothly. Anyone got recommendations?
List of Players:
Dice Player - Crashes
MX Player - Laggy
Mobo Player - Laggy
V Player - Laggy
BS Player - Smooth
Have you tried BS player?

Nice find, never heard of that one but its playing things smoothly. Any others you recommend? (not to be picky but don't really like the interface )
You could try XBMC or VLC. Both players are in beta and I have not tried them recently. XBMC was working pretty well when I last tried it on my tablet. They had just gotten the hardware acceleration working properly.
MX Player, the best one hands down

VLC seems to be improving, with HD decoding turned on the largest nightly seems to work pretty well. Thanks again

Same problem here, both bsplayer and mx player will sometime hang midway and the phone restart.
However running it using movie app work flawlessly, well as far as movies app go, there's no subtitle which a problem while watching anime.

I'm on .211 but the issue is there
I'm on 284 still no fix.
I notice it happens only with mkv. and both bs and mx player will freeze at the same place. So I assume if there's some error in the video, unlike other phone the XSP will freezes and die instead of skipping few frames.

Hi:
Just an FYI, whether you get 4.3 on the original Nexus 7 or on the new one, most video players won't work--Dice Player, VLC, MX etc. don't work. Fortunately, Vplayer, free, does. The only one for the time being.

It does work with some, 720p mkv won't work though. I got the 7/26 nightly version of vlc and it works great though. Check it out

I have BS working for now, not a patch on MX Player in my opinion. Waiting for the update.
This is probably MX Player's biggest problem. The developer for it is extremely slow to respond. Considering the money has had made off the app, you'd think he'd be a bit quicker about it.

Well if you want to support the best there is always vlc, and the latest nightly will play 720p mkv just fine.

+1 - this nightly of VLC is the only app I can find following updating to Jellybean 4.3 that will play 720p MKVs with AC3 audio as smooth as MX Player does on 4.2.2.
getting error code when trying to install it
Which VLC nightly should be used on N7 v4.3? They list V6Arm with FPU, V6ARM no FPU, and V7ARM.
I used the v7 (VLC-debug-20130726-1426.apk specifically) which works fine.

Thank you. That is the one for the V7-ARM. I'll give it a try. [Edit: duh, you said it was for V7, I'll have to check my reading comprehension]

What is your error? Also did you uninstall the other version from the market first, I could see how that would interfere with installing.

Well I just googled that error, as you should as well, there is tons of documentation on it. Sign out of play, clear some caches and you should be back in business.

IIRC the latest BS player .162(?) had a problem playing videos for me- it would load up but just flash back to the video selection page. however when i went back a version .161(?), all was fine
odd.
Archos working now with the latest update
