It certainly should work.
The connections are a little confusing. The male micro-USB coming off the top suggests that you need to connect it to your nook, which would make the whole thing a little unweildy. Also, how is it charged? From a PC? From a AC/USB adapter?

I actually have one. It works with my EVO, but not the Nook Color. You can look at the reviews for the item and see others have similiar issues with other micro USB devices. I think I'm going to order a M/F micro usb extension cable from ebay....hopefully it helps this work with my NC.

Are you sure its not charging? The output of the device is 800mA, and the output of the stock charger is 2000mA. So although it may be charging slowly, the nook would not report it as charging. Would you be able to plug it in and leave it for a while and see if the battery% increases?
I'm positive it's not charging. The micro USB seems to be slightly different than "standard" and thus, doesn't fit all the way into the port on the NC. I can try one more time when I get home today, but I don't think it'll go.
I wish this wasn't the case and I've tried it a handful of times when I first bought it. I've only been using it on my phone lately...
Ah ok - if you get the cable and it works let us know It is a good price even with the cable (about $20 total with battery shipping and free shipping for cable), and if that works it would be pretty sweet!

I'll keep you posted. I had been debating whether or not to buy the cable, but for $5 and I can extend the use of my charger, I finally figured it'd be worth it....that and the fact that I want to help people out here so no one buys the charger itself thinking it'll work.
I ordered that cable yesterday, so when I get it (from China) I'll let you know whether it works or not.

Ok. I got that battery from Monoprice, and it charges my nook without any hassle.
Just need to be a little bit precise on plugging it into the micro USB female on the nook.

Does it work with your android phone? A lot of after market chargers makes the touch screen unusable while charging. Does it work both while plugged into the wall and using the internal battery?

I bought an Energizer XP2000 for about $35 at an OfficeMax (they're widely available). 2000 mAh capacity, weighs about 2oz, comes with its own cord with six different ends for different devices. I plugged it into my fully-charged Nook at 10,000 ft out of Seattle, watched non-stop video at 70% brightness in Airplane Mode for nearly five hours to Baltimore and still had 58% battery left on my Nook (the Energizer was discharged). Other chargers in the line go up to an insane XP1800 that'll power a LAPTOP for six hours!
The sweet spot for me is probably the XP8000. It's max output is 3500mA vs. 500mA for the XP2000, it's the size of two iPod Classics stacked on one another but weighs a little less and it should keep me going for a looong trip. It's $100 so its not an impulse buy (at least for me) but seems like an essential tool for the long distance traveler.

I use this with my nook. I can't answer any questions related to workability with Android phones. That's not this forum.
While using this device to charge my nook, my nook is completely usable. It will charge my nook when the device is plugged into the wall. It will also charge my nook when it's not plugged into the wall (it is a battery, after all). In either situation, my nook is completely usable when connected to this.
I use this battery with my proprietary nook charging cable.

Thanks for this report. My nook goes crazy when I use the same aftermarket charger that makes my phone unusable while charging. It acts as if someone is hitting the screen randomly very quickly. If you're not having issue with the nook on this charger, I'm confident it won't have issues with my phone either. I will order 1 and find out for sure.

Wonderful report. I'm in the market for an external battery. A couple of questions if I may.
So one of the 6 tips works with an NC? I thought the NC's cord and tip were special to enable the quick charging. Do the Energizer products support this technology?
At dealextreme there is also 3000 battery. Why not using that?

The micro USB tip that comes with the Energizer works fine with the Nook. I don't know about "fast charge" vs. "slow charge" and all that but it definitely works. One SUBSTANTIAL advantage of the XP2000 over the larger capacity models (of the Energizer line) is that you can use any USB-to-mini USB cable, including the one that comes with it, and plug it into either a USB power plug adapter or a USB port on a computer to charge it. The XP4000, XP8000 and XP18000 all require their own power adapter. It's included in the purchase of course but I don't like carrying around another cord. Not a deal-breaker, just a factor.

Well, I said I'd update once I recieved my extension cable, so here it is...
I finally received my extension cable and it allows me to use my Monoprice charger with my Nook, so that's great. In the end, it wasn't needed. I ended up RMA'ing my charger back to Monoprice because the thing had a dull buzz when not being used and a high pitch noise when either charging a device or being charged. I'm happy to report that the new charger works with or without the extension cable on my Nook Color and on my EVO 4G. In the end though, I like the extension cable because it gives me more flexibility when using the charger.

Got it. The slow vs fast charge would be a good thing to know. Can you time a charge with the Energizer unit and one with the stock NC charger? If it can fast charge, the Energizer would make a great addition to the NC.

I'm looking for a heavy-duty longer, preferably rightangle cable to charge my N7. The short one works well, but longer ones I have are not heavy enough and take forever to charge the N7.

Have you tried getting a USB extension cable instead? I bought some from fry's a while back and it works to charge my Galaxy Tab 7 Plus, which also needs more than 1A. Some cables I bought from Amazon did not work, though.. so it's a hit and miss.
I bought a couple of 2m generic Chinese cables with a right angled micro usb plug off eBay a while ago, they work fine. They are not heavy duty but are cheap to buy.
careful with usb extensions. my 10ft tripp lite does not work at all to charge my N7.

the official dock does accept some cases.
I've had it working with the official flip cover, and with the official protective cover +.
I had seen this exact dock from a different seller on ebay a couple of days ago. I was about to buy it, but then I noticed that it said in the fine print that the mhl and otg connections can't be used at the same time. I'll see if I can find the link again. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I assume that the oem dock can do both simultaneously?

I got one from Amazon for 2t bucks. Compared it to a real one . It's got all most the same circuitry.
The chips that process the otg and charge curent signal are a lot different. But mine works it will charge while I runmy powered usb hub with my external harddrive. In the one I have you only get one otg option at a time. Like you can do one sd card or one usb thing or the hdmi out but not all at the same time so your going to need a usb hub thats got it's own power supply.
And like all Chinese knock offs you never know witch of there military owned slave labour operated plants actually built it . so there's a good chance you wind up with a better one.or one that isn't as good. Or maybe even one that doesn't work at all. They're all in the same case so its hit or miss.
My cheap knock off doc failed as off last night its no longer recognized as a doc. It shows up only the hdmi and charger.you can always charge and use hdmi out. But otg mod reverse the usb port so you can't charge.
Someone know a gadget that allows both usages? HDMI + USB at same time?

Newegg is carrying these now under the brand name "Baaqii".
It's $34 ($28 when on sale) but it also states, way down at the bottom, cannot do both OTG functions at same time.

I'm thinking That to get otg charging theres got to be a switch in the software someplace that lets you turn offotg mod and turn in back on really fast. Like pules on off on off on off constantly in the kernel. But I'm also thinking that there might not be a switch like that in our phones.
I'm thinking that the chips in a smart doc probably do that. So that leaves us not much choice. We either got to buy a doc. Find that switch or

I found a port of the famous faux kernel. I tried it with the 5 dollar add on app. It had no effect on otg charging a note 2.
I'm thinking the best cheap solution is one of the inductive charger sets. Or possibly putting a 555 timing circuit into a usd cable.
But a $35 1 amp wireless universal charge plat and coil would probably be the easiest way to go.

I also have a bunch of random chargers/cords (some in better repair than others). Does anyone know a relatively cheap plug/cable to buy?
I'd like to just buy 5 or 6 of them to have and just have a standard one in the house, since I have 3 Nexus 7 tablets, 3 phones and various other things that charge with Micro USB.

It'll charge two devices at about 1.6A or so, one at around 1A, the rest around 800mA, not sure about total real-world current if you're charging a bunch of devices at once.
But for me, it's perfect. I'm usually just topping off my G2 and Nexus 7 as I go to bed, and have other cords dangling out for my kids Nook Color, wifes Nook Touch, etc etc.

Nah don't worry about the crapple part of it, every port on it will charge at the "rated" speed with a normal USB cable on an Android device. In reality, it's about 80% rated from what I've seen, so like the 2.1 I've seen 1.7 out of, but that's not bad. I've charged my OG Note, LG G2, Nexus 7 2012 etc, all charge fine. Not as fast as their stock chargers, but the G2 charges at 1.5-1.7A so it's more than fast enough.
No special cable needed, you don't need a "charging" cable for sure. But there's a whole thread about the best cables to use for the G2. It's very picky about voltage sag, and cheap or very long cables it will drop down to a slower charge regardless of how much power the charger can provide. You might look at that thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2460881) if you're having specific issues or want to pick up a specific cable.
I haven't had any cable problems myself, except for connectors being too loose or too tight (G2 connector is weird).
BTW, I've been watching the last few days, and this charger does output higher output, it's just the G2 is kind of weird.. It'll ramp up and down what current it'd drawing, or something.. Like 1800 one second, then 1000, then 1200, then 1600, etc.. I realize that the reading has whatever the device is using removed from it (2000 in, 200 used = 1800 reading) but the G2 uses like 20mA idle, so..
Anyway.. I've seen as high as 1960mA according to Android Tuner.
I just bought a Belkin from Wal-Mart for $20 and its output is 2.1 amps my phone charges fast!

My original usb cable has lost its performance to charge my galaxy note.
Its current just 400mA (galaxy note normally need around 1800) . So it'll takes more time to charge.
As my experience with samsung device.
Samsung usb cable is easly lost its performance to charge.
I've tried :
blackberry gemini usb cable (400mA)
Galaxy tab usb cable (1100-1600mA)
So I'm planing to replace my usb cable with sony xperia z usb cable. (I don't know the current yet)
Anyone ever tried this usb cable?
Or do you have alternative suggestion?

I was getting about 500ma with my original usb cable. It was chaging very slow (about 6-8 hours to 5-100%). Used to be 2 hours to full charge when i got the smartphone.
I had a spare original motorola usb cable in my house and tested it.
It immediately give me 1800ma.
Too bad motorolla dealer is not avaiable on my city.

Yea the stock cable sucks to the max. I am using Galaxy S3 mini thick USB cable with 5 pin. The original one only have 4 pin, it's slow and produce high pitch noise while charging.
I'm using the newer monoprice 1 and it's awesome the older models would come loose after a few uses and this one I've used it over three months and no problems whatsoever and charges at 1800 ma

Not strange if you read the reviews. They are not getting what they ordered. It's not coming from Amazon Prime. I have 4 of the one I posted and they are excellent cords, and I have tried many. Heavy duty construction with a snug fit. Data transfer works flawlessly and charges super fast. For 5.99, you can't beat it.
Just tried to order a couple from Amazon.com and it's another no Can do.

I use the Monoprice premium USB cable. They're cheap Chinese made, but they work well and fairly durable. Just buys a couple of them and you'll be set. The best part, they're cheap enough that when they do break, which none of mine have yet, you'll most likely not care and you'll already have a back up, assuming you bought more than one.
Personally, I keep charges and USB cables all over the place--car, backpack, work, home.
I just switched to a Nokia brand one. Came with the e52. Full 5-pin, never seen it below 1800 while testing.

I had a cable from Mediabridge (not the one in the link, an older model), it was nice and snug, than became loose, than melted (seriously)...
If you want to charge to 1800 mA, you need a cable that is short or thick. Most cables I tried that weren't $1 on eBay were OK.
