Wi-Fi Cast to share media files by Wifi - LG Optimus 4X HD

I had a trouble to send files to other phones like Galaxy III and found this app "Wi-Fi Cast" in LG store, and works great and it´s free, you can send files with other phones conected in same wifi or conected at your wifi-direct zone created throw our 4X HD. Only a note, the phones must be screen on, not standby, while sending is made or conection will fail.
I found this app only in LG store not in G.Play, this is the reason I write this Thread, I lost 2 hours look for an app that work fine . In G.Play there is an app "Wifi Direct" but don´t work in our LG 4x HD.

I haven't tried that one. I'll give it a roll. I was using this for large file transfer as for the moment:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.floriandraschbacher.fastfiletransfer

Great app :highfive:

That app "Fast file transfer" works fine and it create its wifi zone at the moment you want send files and works on all kind of files!! WoW Thank!!
Probably I still use Wifi Cast but only when the phones are already in the same wifi zone, If Phones are in the same wifi don´t need to create a hotspot wifi, don´t need password, and Wifi doesn´t close when you make your own hotspot... but... in almost all cases it is better to use the one you said... in the PUB I´ll be the king :good:

I tried it with our 4X HD and a Galaxy 3 and all times, when Galaxy sends to 4X HD a file it opens in my Device Google Play Store app and I see the app that send the file to download it, but not the file, it work in maps, and web share... but not with M.Media files, I don´t know if in other phones of same branch we could do it.
Samsung g3 uses S-bean when detected NFC Phones to sending files, and S-bean is a Wifi Direct instance, then NFC uses Wifi Direct to share files.
I think in 4X HD, when you use NFC it conects Wifi-Direct or make a Wifi hotspot and share files, then you can use NFC to make a conectión with other phone or other App, I prefer Apps, I can select a lot of files to send in once time. And phones don´t need make love so close

[APP] YOUTUBE app not working

I can not view Youtube from the YouTube App .
I tried it with WIFI and GPRs/EDGE , I always get the NO VIDEOS reply.
What was the trick you guys made for viewing this.
I can goto Youtube Page from OPERA though.....
I used to get this problem until one time I decided to just leave the youtube app running in the background and after a time it just started working.
I just noticed mine isn't working. I installed the *.cab file that removed the globe from the Internet tab. Can someone go into that tab, select "All Bookmarks", and go to its properties. Let me know what URL and what not is set there as default.
Yes...screen prints are welcome!
Any more ideas ?????
My YOUTUBE app always show a NO VIDEOS sign ((((
Same here, I see most viewed etc. but when I want to view anything, it loads and then it says can't play video, I flashed a dozen ROM's hasn't worked on neither.
It works after a hard reset, then stops shortly after. I have not worked this out yet.
Can someone extract the YouTube app out of the original ROM, and post? I didn't realize the "Remove Globe" *.cab would kill YouTube for me. Honestly miss it...it helps me kill time in board meetings

I did what you said, before I used to get NO VIDEO sign, now I get a "Can't Connect TO YOUTUBE" sign which may mean something. Because You Tube has recently been banned here for some time due to loosing a court case against some guy.
Can't connect is always better than no videos in my case. I'm hoping to view Youtube when it's re opened here.

Jim You are officially a genius. This has fixed it.
YouTube was working but now it isn't. I always get "no videos" message and i've left it in the background for around 20mins with no luck!
I have 2 videos in the history list ans they work. But I can no longer search and access new videos.
what's going on here?
This also happened to me. Additionally, QuickGPS wouldn't connect to download any updates (this was over WiFi connection since I don't use a Data one).
I got a solution from another thread which was to open IE (Internet Explorer) and navigate to HTC's Website. Once that's loaded, open up the YouTube Player, that's it.
Just a note for those on T-mob, I was getting this but as soon as I turned off the proxy it started working immediately
I think I might have a workable solution for you guys.
This workaround only works with WIFI
Coomunication manager > Settings > WirelessLan > Menu > Wi-Fi > Network Adapters > IEE 802.11b/g Compatible Wi-Fi adapter > Name Servers > DNS
Write down the DNS address ( if you have any ) for any future needs.
Then replace DNS with 208.67.220.220
That's it, now everytime I'm connected to WIFI I can easily watch Youtube APP .
Try it

I just have the original rom on my device...maybe that's the whole problam?
So maybe there has to come a fix 4 all you guys with the custom rom's?

Thanks everyone for posting their solutions.
I have tried the above and it works first time without problems!
There definitely seems to be an issue that needs a fix but for now this is a temporary fix that works and saves you from adjusting network settings.
Strange but true...
Hi!
I had the same problem after updating to german official O2-Rom 1.93. I tried GroinsNZ solution and it worked. Doesn't matter wich connection u use.
I've found out that you only have to start InternetExplorer in background once and then start youtube. It doesn't matter wich page you load in IE.
I tried google.de and this also did the job. After that, also after softreset, it still worked without starting InternetExplorer again. Thanks GroinsNZ!
Greetings, lordcoffee
Thank you all for your help. Really appreciate it. I will try and see how it goes.
Chink
Opeing IE and then YouTube also worked for me. Thanks HEAPS!
Hi,
Just had same problem after hard resetting my HTC pro.
And all of sudeen you tube started to work again, here is how:
1. Switched on WirelessLan, switched off DataConnection.
2. Started Microsoft Internet Explorer and started to browse web
3. Switched off WirelessLan, opened Internet Explorer browsing web, so my data connection was restarted
4. Closed Internet Explorer, opened YouTube app.... and..... abracadabra... everythink works fine!
Dont have a clue why it helped, not a single good reason comes to my mind, but hey, it works fine with T-mobile now.

Moto Phone Portal

http://home.leakdroid.com/2009/10/06/fresh-leak-moto-phone-portal-for-android-coming-w-sholestaodroid/
Pretty cool. Works with my G1 and Cyanogen 4.1.99. Try it out.
http://rapidshare.com/files/305341350/PersonalPortal.apk
Recently some of the system dumps from the upcoming Motorola Sholes/Tao/Droid hit the Developer community, and they have been trying to piece the puzzle together of what the Motorola Sholes/Tao/Droid is all about. We got our hands on a new app which looks like it will be front and center when the device finally hits the shelves, Motorola Phone Portal.
Those that remember using the Motorola Phone Tools app to hack their Motorola’s back in the day (I’m getting all “Ahmad – Back in the Day” about my v600, v810, and RAZR) will instantly recognize this little gem, but it’s been updated for Android and provides some pretty cool functionality. Basically, Motorola Phone Tools (MPP) serves as an all-in-one phone manager that allows users to easily view, edit, create, delete, and play their contacts, ringtones, photos, wallpaper, and media. The key difference now is, the app is web-based and you log into your phone from directly from your browser! No installing “modems” and drivers on your Windows machine (painful), just fire up the app and press the “Connect with Wi-Fi button. When you press the button, the app prompts you to either turn on Wi-Fi, or connect over USB. For this experiment, I chose Wi-Fi.
MPP lets you add/edit/delete/browse your contacts, photos, bookmarks, browser history, and media in an easy-to-use interface. Playing media directly from the device in the browser worked very well, and the picture viewer/slideshow feature is pretty damn cool. So with MPP you’ll be able to play/show-off your media anywhere from any browser. If Moto adds a Social/Sharing aspect to this, they will have a winner on their hands.
So there you have it kids, a little taste of what’s to come with the Sholes/Tao/Droid. The original Moto Phone Tools was a pretty handy app (when it worked), and the new MPP looks to be just as functional, if not more so. I am sure it will help a lot of users manage their contacts/media/content when it gets released, and the ability to do slideshows and play media from your device directly from your browser is pretty slick. I hope Moto adds more features and functionality to it as time goes on, but this seems like a sign of good things to come. Grab the .apk file below and play away!

Doesn't work on my hero
It asks to activate wi-fi even if it is already active. Tried to start-stop wifi before and after i opened the application. any guess?
Thank you!!
Ok, I figured how to make it working, the phone must be connected to a network to be used, but I though it creates an ad-hoc wi-fi connection to work with.
BTW great app!
This thing is great. I wonder why more people aren't interested in this....
Sounds cool, I'm going to test this out later
pretty slick...
Nice that you can mange contacts and view the contents of your sdcard etc. Similar to AFile and others but a bit more "moto". Could be neat! I imagine that the majority of users would never set up a secure login though, could be fun to sit in a crowded bar and scan for active devices running this on port 8080. Imagine the havoc that could wreak!

Some bizarre renderings on Firefox, but it's a simple and cool way to administer your phone from your computer.

any chance someone can re-upload this, seems its been deleted.

Cool! Thanks for the download/headsup!
does this connect via USB or only wifi?
What does this do exactly? I have to connect to my wifi network and make sure the computer is connected and then what?
Is there a specific process to join the phone and the comp together?
I tried using a remote desktop client but didn't figure out how to get it working, is this the same?

video chatting

What is the best app for video chatting form my gtab running TnT lite lastest. My wife uses Win-win on her laptop. Are there any that are stand alone no need for an internet connection just a home network.
Not exactly answering your question I'm afraid, but Yahoo messenger works for me for video chat between my wife's laptop and my G tab (or is that the other way around?)!
Could you please give your version of Yahoo Messenger + Video plugin
My version force close.
Thanks.
Under "About Messenger", it says version 1.3.1.4583
I don't know how to find info about the video plugin?
Could you attach apk for both please?
I am not able to find Yahoo messenger in the market. I did find a Y! Suites app an installed it it had a link for messenger when I clicked on it I was prompted to login so I did. I was then shown a offer to install yahoo messenger for Android, I click on it and get a,message that the protocol is not supported.
That is Odd. I was able to install Messenger 2 weeks ago on my GTab and now the market is showing the same results as you. No Messenger available to download.
I did find that it can be searched for from the PC web page, but mine shows installed already. Can't verify if it still be sent to GTAb or not. Might want to try that route.
Glad, I am not the only one having the app not found issue. Thought I was having problems with the market. I have had problems finding other apps that have been mentioned in the GTablet forum.
Anybody have a solution or a better suggestion as to which app to use that will allow me and my wife and kids video chat. Would really like to find an app that would allow this while not necessarily connected to the internet but still connected to a wifi home network.
As far as I know, there is software that allows video conferencing, but I highly doubt that they have been ported to google apps. I know most of those out there are meant for corporate use.
but there is a simple solution to video over your home wifi. move your location so you are in close proximity to your wife and talk to her....lol.
All joking aside I wish I could help you, but until someone creates an app that allows video over private wifi, your kinda stuck.
But I can confirm that yahoo video does work.
I thought thier is a new Skype release just out.

It's possible to run my ReelPortal app within your own network, because the server software is also available for free. However, there's a catch, when you first start the ReelPortal app, it needs internet access to retrieve data to start up. After that, you can unplug the internet, and it would work fine. Another catch is P2P mode would not work without internet access, because P2P actually relies on an Adobe server. But within your own network, Client-Server mode would be fine, because you'd be using your own server.
ReelPortal is designed to run indefinitely, so unless you exit the app, you don't need to reconnect the internet. When set up properly, it can serve as a video intercom within your home/office.
A brief description of ReelPortal: http://reelportal.blogspot.com/p/read-me.html
If you're interested, here's a long thread on using it with the gTab:

This thread, with confirmation from a Skype staff member, seems to say that it IS coming for Android but will be locked to a carrier - Verizon. Not sure what this means in terms of XDA being able to hack it for other devices, but there you have it.

ES File Explorer has bluetooth file browsing like you're talking about and doesn't require root, but it is a third party app. Unfortunately my bluetooth pc dongle is for a kb/mouse combo and does not support OBEX FTP, but it works great browsing my wife's phone.
DUN & tethering are the same thing in the context of Android.
Thank you so much
Just what I needed to know.
I was wondering if it can be done without a third party app. ^^
TY!
What's with the aversion to third party apps? I saw another post of yours that said "no third party apps". I'm not trying to be rude, just curious.

I can browse the folders on my phone via bluetooth without any 3rd party tools. Running Windows 7. I don't know what the bluetooth profile is called but both PC and phone need to support it. So we know the Captivate supports it and Windows 7 supports it.

yeah i do this too all the time with STOCK file explorer on both phone and windows.
sync the devices, not conect, just sync once!
from phone, long press file, share, bluetooth, PC
from pc, right click file, send to... , bluetooth.
in vista and win7 there should be a link in "my computer" now too, to browse phone. just have bt switched "ON" on phone
also, on another bt note... my phone didnt have headset options for the computer UNTIL i connected to the phone as headset from the PC first. now the connect to as headset option is on the phone.

the main cover page works-but once your feeds updates-all the content is unreadable
to get internet working you enable bluetooth tethering on your phone (of course)
open nova launcher-the main phone like SETTINGS- (not gear settings)
click on BLUETOOTH
Your phone should be listed-click tiny settings icon
next to that
scroll down to PROFILES
enable checkbox "internet access" use for internet access
note: make sure your are paired first-drove e crazy not even seeing these settings before
next page -checkbox
