ES File Explorer has bluetooth file browsing like you're talking about and doesn't require root, but it is a third party app. Unfortunately my bluetooth pc dongle is for a kb/mouse combo and does not support OBEX FTP, but it works great browsing my wife's phone.
DUN & tethering are the same thing in the context of Android.
Thank you so much
Just what I needed to know.
I was wondering if it can be done without a third party app. ^^
TY!
What's with the aversion to third party apps? I saw another post of yours that said "no third party apps". I'm not trying to be rude, just curious.

What's the difference between DUN and tethering
I can browse the folders on my phone via bluetooth without any 3rd party tools. Running Windows 7. I don't know what the bluetooth profile is called but both PC and phone need to support it. So we know the Captivate supports it and Windows 7 supports it.

yeah i do this too all the time with STOCK file explorer on both phone and windows.
sync the devices, not conect, just sync once!
from phone, long press file, share, bluetooth, PC
from pc, right click file, send to... , bluetooth.
in vista and win7 there should be a link in "my computer" now too, to browse phone. just have bt switched "ON" on phone
also, on another bt note... my phone didnt have headset options for the computer UNTIL i connected to the phone as headset from the PC first. now the connect to as headset option is on the phone.

Bluetooth Fileshare - Bluex
just tried this on Dudes 1.2 and it crashes and forces the phone to restart when receiving a file, also corrupts the file.
sending a file works like a gem though!
I am on Windows Vista x64
I am able to receive calls from my computer seamlessly
Unfortunately for some reason I cannot send files from my phone to computer. I hear the sound that my phone is connected to my computer but it won't receive

I havent tried phone to phone but only pc to phone works. Not phone to pc
use wifi and afile/discovery for phone to pc i reckon.
why do we need an app for this? Surely this is something that should be included in the base OS? until then though i am happy to buy it.... i do believe in supporting devs (hence many of my apps are donation apps) but does my $1 or 2 really do much?
Sends at ~80KB/sec to Macbook and receives with ~170KB/sec
Bluetooth (BLUEX)
Hi,
Bluetooth (BLUEX) on Dude 1.2.b works fine!
I finally bluetooth transfers!!!
Bye
Where to download??? The link on Cyrex doesnt work (
Just search for bluex on the market, that's where I got it
Great tool. Only thing I still miss is sending vCards over bluetooth. With that feature I could use my Parrot car BT for voice dialing.
other buying option than market
Is there any other way to buy it than market.Thank you.
I didn't know about this app!
Works with Cyanogenized Rogers V3.
Tks for the info.
hakyuro 5.0.2g and for me bluex don't work anyone can help me?
I just installed Bluex 1.1 from some forum (no paid apps here) and after tring to send one file it greeted me with:
"Bluex has detected that you are pirating him, app will close.
If you think this is an error, uninstall the application and install it from market."
which phones?
Hey,
I just purchased this app and was wondering if there's a list of the phones that it works with. I can't seem to get it to transfer with my girlfriends samsung behold.
Thanks

Thats because you ARE pirating him!
So, no Paid Apps in there? Just download Market Enabler.
So i'm guessing there is no list of phones that are compatible with this bluex program to transfer files to and from?

Recently some of the system dumps from the upcoming Motorola Sholes/Tao/Droid hit the Developer community, and they have been trying to piece the puzzle together of what the Motorola Sholes/Tao/Droid is all about. We got our hands on a new app which looks like it will be front and center when the device finally hits the shelves, Motorola Phone Portal.
Those that remember using the Motorola Phone Tools app to hack their Motorola’s back in the day (I’m getting all “Ahmad – Back in the Day” about my v600, v810, and RAZR) will instantly recognize this little gem, but it’s been updated for Android and provides some pretty cool functionality. Basically, Motorola Phone Tools (MPP) serves as an all-in-one phone manager that allows users to easily view, edit, create, delete, and play their contacts, ringtones, photos, wallpaper, and media. The key difference now is, the app is web-based and you log into your phone from directly from your browser! No installing “modems” and drivers on your Windows machine (painful), just fire up the app and press the “Connect with Wi-Fi button. When you press the button, the app prompts you to either turn on Wi-Fi, or connect over USB. For this experiment, I chose Wi-Fi.
MPP lets you add/edit/delete/browse your contacts, photos, bookmarks, browser history, and media in an easy-to-use interface. Playing media directly from the device in the browser worked very well, and the picture viewer/slideshow feature is pretty damn cool. So with MPP you’ll be able to play/show-off your media anywhere from any browser. If Moto adds a Social/Sharing aspect to this, they will have a winner on their hands.
So there you have it kids, a little taste of what’s to come with the Sholes/Tao/Droid. The original Moto Phone Tools was a pretty handy app (when it worked), and the new MPP looks to be just as functional, if not more so. I am sure it will help a lot of users manage their contacts/media/content when it gets released, and the ability to do slideshows and play media from your device directly from your browser is pretty slick. I hope Moto adds more features and functionality to it as time goes on, but this seems like a sign of good things to come. Grab the .apk file below and play away!

Doesn't work on my hero
It asks to activate wi-fi even if it is already active. Tried to start-stop wifi before and after i opened the application. any guess?
Thank you!!
Ok, I figured how to make it working, the phone must be connected to a network to be used, but I though it creates an ad-hoc wi-fi connection to work with.
BTW great app!
This thing is great. I wonder why more people aren't interested in this....
Sounds cool, I'm going to test this out later
pretty slick...
Nice that you can mange contacts and view the contents of your sdcard etc. Similar to AFile and others but a bit more "moto". Could be neat! I imagine that the majority of users would never set up a secure login though, could be fun to sit in a crowded bar and scan for active devices running this on port 8080. Imagine the havoc that could wreak!

Cool! Thanks for the download/headsup!
does this connect via USB or only wifi?
What does this do exactly? I have to connect to my wifi network and make sure the computer is connected and then what?
Is there a specific process to join the phone and the comp together?
I tried using a remote desktop client but didn't figure out how to get it working, is this the same?

There is an app on iphone app that allows you to to remote into the iphone from your computer and use it remotely (ie. like logmein, remote desktop, pc anywhere, etc.). Is there any sort of app like that for Android phones?
Working on this right now. There is one that lets you do it over wifi (swiFTP). I have dyndns setup on my phone with a website redirect to it. I just need to get an ftp server that can actually detect that and all should be good. Once I get it working I will start a thread with step by step directions. It took me a little bit of time to get dyndns working right on my phone. I'lll post a link here when I get it all figured out.

Cool. You are referencing FTP though. Are you saying you're developing an app for full remote access / control of the phone? Or just a way to transfer files to the phone via Wifi / cell network?

I tried writing an app a while back, but got so confused I decided not to even try. I want to be able to control my phone, but also access its files over the internet so that where ever I am I can access my phone. My first goal is accessing files and the remote part is just something I thought was cool. Everything that I have tried with remote control access runs real slow so I am trying to tweak with the kernel to see if it helps.

Is it possible that doesn't exist a software for windows to control an Android device from desktop PC?? Android Screen Cast seems to be the one that works a bit, but not for every ROM (I have a Samsung I9000 with ICS ROM).
Also with Windows Mobile I was able to control my phone from my PC...Android seems to be far away for this purpose
I also tried other software, such as PicMe and others, but nothing...
Have you tried Airdroid?
Or is that not the type of app you were talking about?
I'm looking for a software that shows me the display of the phone. So I can control every thing from PC and not only some features.
Airdroid does just that
But it works only by wifi....I haven't wifi on my desktop pc in office...
edit: ok I logged in by usb teathering...I wil try this app...
Nothing, as I supposed it's not the app for me. It lets you to interact only with some features.
Pocket cloud and pocket cloud explorer both work over data connection too, although if the signal isn't good it may be a bit laggy

Try this... It's a teamviewer Quicksupport app and it's free, might be just what you're looking for.

But why do you need this? can't you just take your phone out of your pocket to check it?

what your looking for is webkey.you can control you phone and see everything on the screen live from a pc or another android phone. And if you know what you are doing you can change icon and name of the apk and then install it as a system app to start when the phone turns on and runs throw 3g or WiFi.

I have found a couple threads on this topic, but none of them provide a clear cut solution mostly because they have workarounds related to disabling notifications on the computer side.
The issue is I have a Mac, so instead of a notification, every time I connect the phone, the phone turns on "development mode" and then I see an emulated CD on my desktop and the application pops up.
I want to disable or delete this emulated CD. I would like a way to do this on the phone side, perhaps just disabling a service or application. I am not rooted and don't plan on it.
TIA

Anyone?
delete the iso from the phone
it's in /etc/PCTOOL.iso
use a root capable file explorer.
You'll need to be rooted.

FWIW (and I don't think this will help you necessarily), I didn't delete the file. I renamed it using a Root Explorer from PCTOOL.ISO to BackupPCTOOL.ISO and rebooted. I figured I'd leave it just in case.... Good luck.
I've also:
1) disabled HTC Sync Manager from All Apps
2) deleted PC Synchronization.apk
3) deleted HTC Sync Manager.apk
4) deleted AndroidHTCSync.apk
I want to be able to launch HTC Sync Manager manually when I DO want to sync stuff (mostly my music), but not every time I connect my phone just to charge it. Sigh.
You also have to disable kernel write protection. If you don't, it comes back. Minor details....
I don't even se that file in my etc folder.. :/
