[Q] Samsung Galaxy GT-S5839i - Flash assistance - Galaxy Ace S5830i General

Hello everyone, Found this set of forums while looking for information on how to and what is the best version of, to flash my phone due to several simple but aggravation issues so any assistance on choosing any particular version of flash would be deeply appreciated.
My main issue with the standard software is actually just the inabilty to to move ALL apps on to my SD card considering the internal capacity on this model is only 162.1 mb and with apps like Facespaz taking up a wopping 21 meg on its own, well I'm sure there are some of you who know where I am coming from.
Anyhow, any assistance would be deeply appreciated.
Kind regards
Talzanar

XXLI1 (deodexed, by Alucard1989pl), root, just use Link2SD to link you apps to the second SD partition (both should be primary).
If it worked, please hit the thanks button and say if it worked or not. (BECAUSE IT DOESN'T WORK FOR ME ! ! ! ! ! (Strange, because before it worked fine (I used, yes, useD, Rafael.Baugis kernel, and now I don't) and I get now: "Error: no such device")).

Thank you for this information, For as much geek as I would declare my self to be, admitingly phones are somthing I have just never given any attention or thought towards, shame really.
Seems like there is quite the community these days, Is there a link to a list of Flash Mod's to see what other options are out there?
* Thanked for you're post*
Kind regards

Phone Freezes Randomly (Magic 32B)

Well i´ve got a problem.
I´ve got a Magic 32B (i think its better in the G1´s forum) and it freezes randomly, since i´ve rooted it.
I´ve tried several roms, but the problem is still there.
I´ve tried some sd cards, but it still freezes.
I´ve updated the Radio and the spl (Radio : 2_22_19_26I & Death SPL)
well. i dont know what to do now. it freezes, the display´s still on, but its.. frozen. then half a minute later, it reboots. but its not a kernel panic. it reboots completely.
please help
There's only one thing to do in a situation like this.......
.........get a Dream (G1)!
thank you -. - i really dont need answers like this one.
Also, this is in the WRONG section, this isn't DEVELOPMENT its a Q and A so put it in the QandA section
reformat your sd card(fat32) re partition it , the wipe EVERYTHING YOU CAN ON YOUR PHONE, and flash a STABLE ROM. LIKE SUPERD OR CYANOGENS ROM.

I'm not sure where your problems can stem from.
That being said, I try some of the suggestions stated above, ie.,
1. Complete wipe
2. Repartiton SDcard
3. Maybe even invest in a new battery (you never know)
4. Those are the things I would've tried. Those same things can pretty much eliminate most problems.
5. If all else fails.........get a Dream (G1)
Or you could pray to the Cell Phone Gods...........
Seriously, I know I haven't been much help, but the suggestions I put forth is what I'd do.
Don't forget to pray!

Communities police themselves and don't need no STEENKIN' badges to do that. If you don't have an ARM compiler or the Android SDK on your computer you are not a developer and have no business creating new topics in this subforum.

Rooting your phone does not make you a developer. If you don't have an ARM compiler or the Android SDK on your computer you are not a developer and have no business creating new topics in this subforum.

You don't have to be a mod to know who is the intended audience for a forum section. If you expect free technical support the very least you can do is to help out the people doing it by filing your request appropriately and doing your own damn leg work.

Do YOU have the Android SDK or an ARM compiler installed? Then YOU bugger off back to Q&A.

Junior member wannabe fail?
Anyway, the main thing is is that if your phone is relying on your SD card like for Apps2SD you could run into some problems with a badly formatted card. Would you be able to post a logcat of one of these crashes? It would help a lot in trying to find and identify the problem and then fix it.

This sounds more likely to be a hardware issue, I've heard of many cases of it on the forums every month or so.
but why should it be a hardware issue? i mean, before i rooted it, it worked perfect. but now..

Yes, some people had the exact same hardware problem as you. You can try to un-root and root again but the problem may still be persist.
okay, thank you. i´ll try it tomorrow, then I tell you if it worked
Hey wazup man well i see what u talking about but i also have a MT3G (32B) and i had no problems with it. Its just depends of the rom you put on it cuz not all roms are stable some are beta or still working on the rom. So what you need do is find roms that are stable. Try find a rom in here go to the search Tap>and put this SuperCSDIX10 im using right now that rom and its FAST so hopwe it helps out

[Q] S5830M - Creating swap helps?

Hello
I am a total newbie in regards to this.
I was wondering if creating a swap partition can help improve the phone performance and/or what other use can you give to it?
Also, how do you accomplish this?
Thank you!

Please press Thanks button if helped ^^
Swap can improve the phone performance, since the phone will use some of the SD Card memory as "RAM", but this "RAM" will be much slower, but the drawback is that it may reduce the SD Card life, since the phone will use the SD Card all the time. I don't know what other use you can give it. Sorry
You can download an app to do this here:
Google Play.
You need root to use it.
If you want further information look here:
Thanks for your reply, seems then there's not much use for it.
I have been digging around for a good ROM for my phone, but I cannot see any that supports the one I have (M) .
Would you be able to recommend any?
Thank you!

Your S5830M is exactly the same as S5830I, so you can use S5830I ROMs, but I'm NOT 100% sure. See this thread, page 2:
Here.
Since I don't have a S5830M i can't recommend you, sorry. If you go to S630i development here, you will find tons of them.
Hope it helped, press Thanks button if so.

Saving memory trick

Hi all
I wanna thank This Forum For Helping me to Mange all my Android Phones And Tablet That I'm using..
Recently I Manged to Make my wife to use An android phone ( Samsung ACE s5830i ) as a first step to make here a fan of android Samsung instead of NOKIA
i found a big problem that happened with me before that the internal memory is very small and i couldn't install so much programmes from the store so i used an old trick that i used be4 with my android VPAD 7 which is:
1. make root to the phone ( you will find it in the development section)
2. i used a 4 GB microSD card formatted it to 2 partions primary FAT32 ( the 2nd one is 1024 mb).
3. put it on phone and install the LINK2SD program from the market. when it 1st open it will ask for the second portion type choose FAT32.
4. it will relink many files the belong to the internal memory to the SD card and also you can install the proggrames to the SD card but not all programes the supported ones
this will save alot of space on the internal memory
I hope that Help

Try searching first, tho - if you find none, go ahead! If you do, and think it's important to bring it back to attention, feel free to share it in the off topic thread, or bump the topic with new information (a note that you're aware of bumping and doing it for a good reason is usually a good idea).

How did Samsung partition the Note (N7000 16GB)?
Code:
[FONT=Comic Sans MS][SIZE=4]CACHE: Start:54.5MB End:264MB Size:210MB[/SIZE][/FONT][FONT=Comic Sans MS][SIZE=4]
FACTORYFS: Start:281MB End:1174MB Size:893MB[/SIZE][/FONT][SIZE=4]
[FONT=Comic Sans MS] DATAFS: Start:1174MB End:3322MB Size:2147MB[/FONT]
[FONT=Comic Sans MS] UMS: Start:3322MB End:11.9GB Size:11.9GB[/FONT]
[FONT=Comic Sans MS] HIDDEN: Start:11.9GB End:15.8GB Size:537MB[/FONT][/SIZE]
As you can see, the DATAFS partition only has 2147MB, hardly enough for much games or resource heavy apps. e.g. Facebook (30~100MB) Spotify (100~300+MB), and so, we need much more space to store these apps.
People might redirect you to download .pit files and ODIN, but as always, using ODIN is, to say the least, quite risky. Well, this method does NOT require ODIN, cables or a computer!

Now that I've got everything clear, let's get into the juicy stuff...
This file basically reduces the space assigned to cache and preload partitions and reassigns that extra space to your internal sdcard.
What is preload?
Used for storing Samsung's pre-loaded bloatwares like some wallpapers and "Wonders of Nature" video that you find on your phone after a factory reset or after buying a new phone.
Reducing the cache partition:
Cache basically stores the apps from Google play while they are downloading. Google Play apks has a maximum size of 50MB, so reducing it won't matter.
Click to collapse
What To Download?
If your ROM does not use /preload to store any files, download the file with the tag (Non-Preload ROMs).
Download Partition Table app from the Play Store and check /preload. If it has more than 100MB used, your ROM needs preload.
If you need more apps than data (documents, music etc.), download the 10/11GB Data Partition files.
If you need more data than apps, download the 9GB UMS Partition files.
How do I do this?
It's like flashing any ordinary zip file! Follow the steps to not brick your phone!
Downloads are at the bottom of the post.
Your computer will not be needed for this guide!
Download Philz recovery. Use the latest stable version available. Check here.
Make a nandroid backup to your EXTERNAL SD CARD. Make sure this backup is working.
Flash Philz from recovery.
Flash the zip file. (Currently only 16GB model)
After rebooting to recovery (it's auto), you will see some mounting errors. Relax, nothing's wrong. Go into mounts and storage and format /system, /data, /sdcard0 and /preload. Do not format anything else.
Restore your nandroid/install a new ROM (You can flash your original recovery back now.)

Great Job @Irwenzhao !!!
Now we can safely do partition without having to risk odin. An advice though, I think it's not allowed to post direct download link to philz.. Have u asked for permission? Or maybe you should just state what vers. of recovery is to be used and post a link to philz thread? Just a friendly reminder. Thank you for your hard work. Cheers!

No, this uses Philz Recovery to repartition, thus removing the risk of unstable connections through a cable.

Has anyone had a chance to test this? Thinking about doing this soon.

It looks like the OP didn't test it on a N7000.
And until now no member risked to install it.
Understandable not only because of this risk (untested app).
Who really need this? Simple cleaning of apps is a much better approach.
And there ist a good chance of additional problems when installing other roms (stock or custom).

You'll be surprised how much storage gets eaten up on Kit Kat using ART. I have a lot of apps - over 3.5gb worth of app data. I don't have a single game installed and it's running as clean as possible.
I want to do this to my N7000 but I'm a little tentative. Then again, the OP seems to know what he's doing.
Edit: Tried to flash using the latest Phillz Recovery (6.41.6) and it throws an error saying it cannot be flashed (Status 255). This is with 5GB/9GB data partition zip with preload.

Yea sorry I don't have a N7000 to test on, but I researched as much as I could before releasing it. If anyone has an extra n7000 to test it(I doubt it), I would appreciate it very much
There are some people who needs loads of apps, but if you do think that clearing apps is a better approach, go ahead. I doubt there'll be any risks in installing a custom ROM (I've checked the sizes of CM and some others (AOSP)) and they all fit into the system partition nicely. Flashing stock ROM does not work. You'll have to flash a .pit file in order for a stock ROM to be flashed. Thanks for taking your time to voice your opinion.

I agree, since ART doesn't use JIT compiler.
I suggest doing a little research first, but there aren't many pages on re-partitioning with recovery, considering only Philz can do it.
Now that u mention ART, I should probably switch soon considering xposed doesn't work for me

Could you shed any light on why my N7000 throws an Error 255 when I try to flash this? Flashing from external storage.

My computer screwed up and saved it in a incompatible binary. Gotta fix that ASAP, don't worry, it won't brick your phone.

Well that would make sense. Let us know when you fix the binary, would like to test this tonight :good:

CM7 (Android 2.3.7) for N7000 must of existed, at one point?

Hi All,
In my quest to try find a pure clean Gingerbread rom for the N7000 for old times, and nostalgic memories (from other devices).
After hearing there was no source, and it never happened... I've just noticed this post from another website, that claims it did... right up to Android 2.3.7 (the last of the Gingerbread) as all the bloated roms I see on GB are based on 2.36.
It appears the rom came from our very own, this site.... XDA. http://www.landofdroid.com/2011/samsung-galaxy-note-gets-unofficial-cm7-treatment/
Does anyone know anything about it, where I can find it...?? If you have it, can you please upload it.... And why is it so elusive?? As I thought GB was safe from the eMMC, and that it was only stock or leaked ICS kernels that were unsafe??
Thanks, Lister
Hi All,
Anyone know anything about this rom? Apparently it originated and was born from XDA forums...
If anyone has this file, would be very very interested, thank you... Lister
Same here but it seems it has disappeared...
well if someone have a backup please upload it, this is a legendary rom
Hi All,
Ok guys, a bit more research on the CM7 rom that was built for the Note (N7000) via someone here on the XDA forums....
I have since found these websites, giving more info about it...
http://mobiputing.com/2011/11/unofficial-cyanogenmod-7-build-for-the-samsung-galaxy-note/
and,
http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...ml+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk&client=firefox-a
And the file we are all seeking is called.... update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyNote-kang-signed.zip
If anyone has the above file, please could they let us know... I can't believe this rom, its thread, and the many users who may of flashed it back then, have all disappeared...???
Or was this the reason behind the eMMC BrickBug? (even though GB was supposedly safe?)
Thanks guys, hopefully we can find it...
Cheers, Lister
best way is to PM the rom creator netchip for the file.
could you do that i am too interested!
Hi ASMI1,
Aye, that would be good... but looks like it might be "easier said, than done" as it would appear NetChip has been banned from this community...
So not sure how else we can find out any more about this rom, I would of thought someone who had this phone in the earlier days might of had a backup of this rom... we just gotta hope someone who has, read this post....
Thanks, Lister

yeah that's our only hope for now
even google show no trace for this rom
Hi ASMI1,
Trust me, I've totally exhausted the Google searches.... Tried every kind of possible variant to try and find it....
N7000, i9220, i-717, Galaxy Note....
Thats how I got and found as much as I have so far... I just can't believe who ever uploaded it, only loaded it ONE SOURCE ever.... As that source is now dead, the link just takes you to spam / malware post...
Can't believe the thousand's who have this phone, neither remember it, backed it up, or are showing no interest in recovering it....
Sure, its a dated firmware, and with Lollipop just round the corner... But surely, everyone wants to step back in time once in a while, for old times sake... CM7 was a fine rom, even has powerful stuff in it, thats missing from all future builds...
Hopefully someone might come to our aide soon...
Cheers, Lister

Whats up with GB? Didnt the phone come with stock install
Hi @drulo222,
Yes, it did... But it only got as far as GB (Android 2.3.5 or 2.3.6) and was some 600 - 900Mb download, full of bloatware, lacked features other than TW stuff... and was badly optimized....
At least with the usual CM stuff, CM7 was only around 100Mb rom for this device, was running the latest and last GB build (Android 2.3.7) and so it would be nice just to see a polished version on our Device.... Esp for all those who grew up with CM7 on other devices (ie: my original ZTE Blade). It would appear at least a build was made for this device, but was only ever uploaded to one filehost, which now gives you MALWARE when visited... And all the users of N7000 appear to have never seen it...?????
Cheers, Lister

I thought cm is open source project; each one being incremented. I'm not sure if any cm would 100% percent be build for any particular version, yet this type of phone? Take the builds and see that there is always a newer one... but sure, that doesn't guaranty compatibility. I am saying cm7 probably isnt as expected from people... especially on more sophisticated phones. Anyway. id install one for test purposes.
Hi All,
Whilst still on the ever (elusive) hunt for CM7 for our Note/N7000.... I've uncovered more evidence that it did at one time exist...
https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/m1ai2/cm7_makes_it_to_galaxy_note/
So please, please, can you cheack your HDDs, or ya SD Cards, those who may of played around with it in the past (before I got my phone) and if ya have a copy of it, please re-upload it...
Many thanks, Lister
The more I see on this, the more I am starting to think this is bullsh*t.... and that no one here ever did manage to get CM7 working on the trusty Note!!!
Lack of posts, refences leads me to think we have more chances of finding Elvis alive than this elusive CM7 rom???
http://www.landofdroid.com/2011/samsung-galaxy-note-gets-unofficial-cm7-treatment/
Hi All,
Finally, I have found the thread where CM7 once existed for our Note. Even if NO ONE is aware it ever existed....
It appears it was almost complete, but then got pulled because it did not boot.... / Much like the build of CM7 on the i9100... that never booted on it's own, yet got published all over the place, inc the official CyanogenMod website back in the day... I managed to get the CM7 for i9100 with a custom Gingerbread kernel.
I feel that's all that's needed for the Note/N7000....
If anyone has this ROM, I don't care how complete/dangerous they think it is... 99% of failed flashes are fixed by official firmware and Odin. Grew up on CM7 with my first Smartphone, would be cool to see it on the Note.
I know we have CM14.1 these days, which is even more awesome that the old Note is still living strong even today... But would also be cool to see the old times too on it... lol
/ someone must have the rom? lol
Cheers, Lister
