I recommend using ACMEUninstaller to uninstall CM9 completely and then ACMEInstaller3 to install CM10. Back up your apps and their data with Titanium Backup first. You could also try backing up your settings and system data, but be aware that restoring them can cause problems and require reflash.

agreed, from what i understand if you dont go this route you can run into problems down the road with random reboots do to not enough system space. do it right and get set up again. we wont be seeing anything after jelly bean anyway or at least i doubt it so this will prob be the last time you do it anyway. plus if you dont like cm10 you can restore your cm9 backup anyway.

what I did:
1 ran a nandroid backup in clockwork mod
2 used acme uninstaller
3 used acmeinstaller3
4 restored my backup
5 cleared cache and dalvik cache
6 flashed cm10 in clockwork mod
7 flashed gapps 4.2
it worked like a charm. had some issues with with the launcher, due to cm10 not using trebuchet by default. I just trebuchet as 'always' and I was good to go. however, cm10 does not have any trebuchet settings options, so make sure to set your transitions and all beforehand becuz as if now, you'll be stuck with them! gl!

BuffMcBigHuge is right...it only way for proper and clean install..

I tried to restore a CM9 TWRP backup made when I still had ACMEInstaller2 after I had run ACMEInstaller3 and I kept getting FCs plus the SD card didn't mount. Not sure if this was just a bad backup or if resizing the partitions made the old backup have issues.
Either way its not that much of a pain to do a clean install of Android if you have something like Titanium Backup since it does a great job of restoring apps and data.

If anyone can answer this, I'm curious why when you restored your backup, why didn't it return your system partition to the size it was before you used acme3?

Installed 11/16 CM10 preview right over CM9 then JB gapps and wiped caches. Its working great.

you dont say if you come from official cm9 or unofficial cm9. i presume its official cm9.
having never seen acme installer3, i assume that you can set it to just resize the partitions?
i would like to just backup my unofficial cm9 rom, resize partitions, completely new install the official cm10 (when it get cam etc.) restore all my apps, data, settings, .. from cwm restore-- or is titanium the better choice?
does this sound do-able?
thanx

I'm still curious about this, if anyone can explain it to me. Not saying it didnt work, but I always understood that nandroid backups take a snapshot of your current setup. if you're restoring a backup made before you increased the size of system, why isnt the amount of space designated for the rom restored as well upon restoring of the backup?
hopefully that makes sense
dan

Because when you nandroid it snapshots all the data and system apps and settings but the partitions are the amount of space, like if you had your sdcard partitioned in 2 then copied all the data to your computer then repartitioned amd made your sdcard one again then when you transfer back your data your sdcard will still be one partition, that didn't change, but all the data is still there

Exactly that. I needed to use acmeinstaller3 to set my partition size. I was then able to restore my nandroid backup within the new partition size. The reason I restored to my CM9 files was to keep my installed apps and app data intact. Flashing the CM10 rom was not a problem over the CM9 nightly, everything went smooth as butter!
Too bad CM10 kinda sucks. There are features in CM10 I simply do not like. I will not get into them in this post, but I'd be happier using CM9.

Thanks for the guide! Do you need to do anything about moboot or will it be kept from the original CM9 flash? Sorry if that's an obvious question but treading carefully going from CM9 to CM10.1 !!

[Q] CM7 to MIUI

My SGS i9000 is running CM7. So it's rooted and CWM installed.
What I want to know is can I easily install MIUI just by using CWM and a zip file?
Looking at the requirements for MIUI, I should have everything but am not sure about the SpeedMod kernel. I haven't installed it, so unless it's part of CM7 then I won't have this. This could be a problem?

I think, as with CM7, you only need the speedmod kernel when installing MIUI to make sure you have CWM...which you already have in CM7 so you should be fine.
Likely you will need to wipe /data and /datadata before flashing MIUI, just as you need to do when going from MIUI to CM7...so back up your apps.
That sounds perfect then.
Am enjoying CM7, and think that MIUI does like a bit too iphone-y, but I really want to try it. As an ex-iPhone user I might like it
Worked just as you said, took about 3 minutes to install and seems to be running perfectly. So glad I tried it, MIUI looks spectacular so far. Very impressed
Please tell me if this is correct (I'm running CM7 and want to try out MIUI):
- CWM-backup of my current system
- copy clockworkmod folder to PC
- put MIUI.zip on my internal SD
- factory reset with CWM
- flash MIUI.zip with CWM (install zip from sd -> choose zip -> MIUI.zip
And going back to CM7:
- factory reset with CWM
- put latest CM7-nightly on internal sd
- flash Nightly.zip with CWM

What I did was (starting with CM7)
Titanium backup of apps and data
download MIUI directly to the internal SD card off the web
Reboot into CWM
Advanced > Clear Data
Install zip from SD card > point to downloaded file.
Titanium restore of apps.
Worked an absolute treat. Only thing I lost was SMS messages and APN.
One thing that nearly caused me concern was lack of cell data connection but it's turned off by default and just needed turning on. Phew.
Ok, thanks. I'll try this today!

How do I flash ROM and Kernel flashed on a fresh partition?

I'm using Slim ICS 3.2 but I want a clean install, I've gone through so many Roms so I don't want any other file conflicts.
DamianGTO written a guide for a superclean installation
http://damiangto.emc2production.org/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=213
but you have to register in order to see it, and I respect his copyrights.
Alternatively transfer essentials to computer from your internal sd card>>>factory reset and wipe internal sd card>>>Attach to computer and only transfer back your nandroid backup (you still need this incase something goes wrong) and the rom zip...
Go to recovery wipe data/factory reset>>>wipe cache>>>wipe dalvik>>>mounts and storage>>>format system+cache+datadata+data (I dont wipe boot and you need sdcard)>>>Flash rom
That should give you a very clean install
Cleaner if you clear up your exsd if you have one

First dl. Your rom to sd (don't move it from your download section, this is your internal SD)
Just follow the steps, 3 posts up,but as he said DO NOT WIPE SD-CARD, doesn't matter if u wipe boot nothing bad will happen.remember to also wipe dalvik cache.
After wipe, install your rom and essentials(needed on slim rom) then let it boot.if u restore apps with titanium b. Then only restore app, not app+data otherwise u might have some apps fc
Hope it helped
Ps.
Damiangto is banned from a lot of sites because he violates open source rules and won't give up his source codes
Even though he uses other people codes (kernel codes)

You have deleted all your pictures music etc on your SD card. Including the rom that you were meant to or have already flashed. Also you may have deleted your backups and possibly your nandroid.
If you haven't flashed flashed yet ensure you make a nandroid backup and transfer the rom you wish to flash onto your sd card.

Does wiping cache/data wipe out all of my SwiftKey settings?

I am currently using CM9. And I wish to shift to CM10 (Jellybean) on my GT i9000.
This requires that I wipe cache/data etc. But I am worried about wiping out a year full of key strokes saved in the SwiftKey directory. How can I ensure that my SwiftKey settings are retained while installing CM10?
I think that the DATA wipe will delete everything (apps and settings - The cache wipe won't...) but you can back it up with some backup app that can restore that... i think titanium can do the job... but you should verify it
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Yup, I have used Titanium before; I used it while moving from CM7 to CM9. But I have no idea what happened back then. Most certainly I started my SwiftKey from scratch, I guess.
I made this post to confirm that backing up SwiftKey data is possible. And also to learn methods to do such backups.
This is the only thing pulling me back from going for CM10 from my current CM9 ROM. Every thing else is sorted for me; contacts, and other apps are all retrievable.
Just make sure Titanium Backup is set to backup app data when you run it, and it'll restore all your Swiftkey settings later.
Confirmed as I just recently did so

[SCRIPT] SuperWipe for LG Nexus 4

SUPERWIPE SCRIPT
Alright.. Here is a SUPERWIPE script for our Nexus 4
standard disclaimer here... i aint responsible if your phone catches fire, etc, etc
I'm not getting into the debate on their usefullness, whatever.. I like them and some others do so yeah :good:
Will not play nice with twrp it will not wipe your data partition at all or reboot back to recovery due to the way twrp handles their stuff I am currently working on a fix for this
Version 1
Wipes & Formats
- cache, system,
Wipes
- data (NOT SDCARD)
Wipes
- various system files found on sdcard
Checks
- system for errors
MD5 SUm : 7C95D25876C9D387139384639F77CB04 *LG Nexus 4 - SuperWipe v1.zip
How to Use
- Backup Original ROM
- Flash LG Nexus 4 Superwipe v?.zip
- FLASH OR RESTORE A ROM
- Continue as normal
TESTED working before a restore and new rom flash by myself multiple times
Original superwipe created by mike1986
cherry picked data wipe without wiping sdcard from Jst_In_Time
Used the partition information from mskip to ensure the correct locations were being wiped
I am not sure if this is the correct forum to be in and I read the thread sticky before posting

No no no no. Please don't use superwipe scripts. They are known to be problematic and don't do anything that your recovery doesn't do.
Thanks for the effort OP, but I strongly advise NOT to use it. I've troubleshooted Sensation and some other HTC phones for over a year with other guys, and we all agree that superwipe scripts are a no no.

Used them every ROM flash with 3 sensations and a desire and my galaxy nexus when they were available.. Setup correctly with partition table information they yes will do what a recovery does and save time and remove unnecessary system files on sdcard before a ROM flash... Your problem lies when you try to use a super wipe on a device to which it isn't ported for as dev blocks change for partitions (so u end up wiping a radio partition instead of a system for example) and locations of sdcard etc change... I've used it probably 20-30 times already myself in testing (as i tested the mouting points etc before the last testing phase was the format of the partition.. And read each log until I was happy with the result)

Not sure what you mean, There is no sd card on the N4.
Internal sdcard
mounts as /sdcard/0/
By the recovery when you flash a file from the phone
Therefore is a "sdcard" for simplicity purposes

Indeed. User error. Users nowadays don't read, and it IS their fault if they brick their phone, but i prefer to have a little safeguard like for the kids on the stairs
I somehow ended up troubleshooting problems in Senny forums, along with ganeshp, malybru, kgs and many others, so my mentality has swerved a bit towards prevention of problems rather than fixing the problem after they done the deed.
I understand that you are not having a dig, i think we are having quite a constructive conversation here.

I used a SuperWipe script and a Super Cache Wipe script made by the developer (thederekjay) when I had my T989 Samsung Galaxy S 2.
Back in those days the scripts were necessary because (for that particular device at least) the earlier versions of CWM did not wipe the partitions thoroughly/properly and people would have issues when flashing ROMs.
The scripts were fantastic and a go to for almost everyone in the forum. However, they were only necessary for the earlier versions of CWM, it was not necessary on TWRP or when CWM was updated.
I guess my question is, does it matter if we are using CWM or TWRP with your script? Can it be used on either recovery?
Either recovery is fine... Mostly this script will negate some time, provide an output of the results of the script, check for system filesystem errors and delete common files that are located on the internal sdcard from some system apps... Yes some things can be done via the recovery however some thing's cant and a lot of people don't wipe system.. Therefore this is an all over that will erase and format basically all relevant partitions and files relating to a ROM =]

As I mentioned already in other posts, I just got back into the Android scene so bear with me. I, too have been using super wipe scripts back in the Evo days (yes the OG Evo . I was actually looking for a script like this only because when I use the CWM data/factory reset, it wipes data and cache but I can still boot up into a fresh version of the ROM. Call me paranoid or OG when I want to wipe, I want to complete wipe everything so that unless I flash a rom, the phone won't boot up to anything other than fastboot and recovery. With that being said, would this script do just that?
Also, is it really necessary for me to wipe everything or does the CWM "wipe data/factory reset" good enough? I just worry that it doesn't wipe everything and leaves unnecessary files. Even though I have the 16gb N4, it's still very little space so I'd like to ensure I'm not being jacked out of space from all those unnecessary orphan files...
I'm really glad to see this. Scripts like this help a lot of people know they've wiped all the right things when they flash a new ROM. Thanks for putting this together.

1. Basically.. what will occur is that the script will "factory reset/wipe data" your device as a recovery would do.. AND it will not wipe your "internal sdcard" if it was set to just wipe the entire partition you may infact lose data, which is what I didn't want for obvious reasons.
2. Alot of people do not wipe their system partition at all, as you can see most people state to "factory reset/wipe data" which is an entirely different partition. Yes some people say that the entire system is wiped before a rom is flashed but looking through ROM updater scripts during the course of making the superwipe script for our device I noticed some had system parition format lines in there before the rom is flashed. This superwipe script will wipe/format the system partition regardless of what the rom zip may contain
3. This script also deletes some files located on the internal sdcard that can be left behind if conducting a "full wipe/factory reset" as previously stated as this script (as with recoveries) do not wipe this partition because that would be a pain in the butt to reload all your sdcard contents back on
so basically its up to you whether you wish to use a script to conduct more than most people usually do with just their recovery, if you feel that is what you would like to conduct in the course of flashing a rom
So I ran the script and then flashed a different ROM but when it booted up, I still had my apps....normal?? And like basically most features settings too..
.....I'm scared.... Hah

4. flashed back to my aokp rom

Maybe you should flash the kernel of 10.2 use fastboot before you do that.

What is your concrete reason for downgrade?

Unfortunately, a wipe is needed to downgrade, but it is not very hard I did this also. I found that the CM11 GPS always-on bug makes it currently unusable.
Download Koush's Helium from the Play Store.
Make sure root is enabled (I believe it is on by default with the FXP builds, but if Helium complains then it is in the CM11 developer options).
Use Helium to make a full data-only backup of all apps an external SD Card (If you don't have one, go buy a microSD for $10 its nice to save your pictures/videos to anyhow).
Save a copy of the FXP302 CM10.2 zip as well as the 10.2 Gapps ( http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip ) onto the SD Card.
Boot to recovery, wipe system partition, Install the CM10.2 zip file. Install the 10.2 Gapps. Reboot.
Retype your google password and your Cyanogenmod password. Install Helium from play store. The rest of the Playstore Apps should start automagically downloading too. Use Helium to restore all your data from SD card -- it will prompt you to download any missing app you need again.
You will probably have to re-setup your home screen. CM11 defaults to Launcher3, while CM10.x uses Trebuchet

Thank you for your detailed explanation...
I used Titanium backup to backup all app+data (I now think it is very risky....that Apps in 4.4 being restored in 4.3)
I did full wipe and installed CM10.2
Almost all things are fine, except gapps...
I installed PAgapps full for 4.3, but no chrome and drive inside the package , so i hv to install it manually from play store
