[Q] Galaxy Ace no more supported by Samsung - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Samsung galaxy Ace is getting no more bug fixes from samsung.
Latest Android 2.3.6 for SGA lags a lot and battery is very poor vs in froyo.
Samsung left this mobile in cold after a year.
Iphone 3GS got IOS 6 after 3 years lifespan.
wtf Samsung atleast release a good rom for SGA and then make this phone unsupported.
SGA needs a ROM with good battery and less lag.
Froyo has good battery but no 480p video recording.
Samsung should learn from Apple.
Is there any bug free rom with good camera and battery backup?

you need to understand that when this phone was released mid range phones were not that powerful compared to now..
when you compare to iSh!t3 you paid for flagship not midrange at the time and its Apple..
what you expect from 800mhz armv6 processor ?? it is serving you best..
tell me a phone with msm7227 which is lagfree in android world and i will quit all things and bring that for you :silly:
P.S stock roms are always supposed to be laggy.. ask sgs3 guy he will tell the same
by what i see samsung is still releasing software updates for this phone is still respectable.. all other phones which were released at that time are long unsupported (even much powerful ones)

Well said.. Well said indeed

Cammon guys recommend some custom roms bugfree with good battery.

instead of complaining better checkout Android Development Section for really fast stable bug-free and good battery life roms...
try out miracle v4 or apocalyase/.. both these roms are excellent... super fast, a true beauth, and with 2 hours of surfing + 2 hours of call + all day texting + and an hour of music play i get battery life of almost 30 hours... ..
you can check roms based on cm7... most of them are really good !!!
press thanks if i helped !!!

Should I swap my Desire HD with a Galaxy S?

Hello fellow XDA'ers,
I've had my Desire HD for about 10 months & although it's perfectly fine and indeed excellent, apart from the below average battery, I just got bored.
So, a friend of mine has a SGS & I am thinking of swapping with him...
1)Will I notice the RAM difference?
2)Does the pentail screen bother much?
3)How's the sense rom on the SGS?
So what are your thoughts? Did any one convert from a DHD to SGS?
Thank you.
Dont do it! I came from galaxy s to dhd......dhd feels snappier nd much better screen. Plus the sense interface on the dhd is much better than the stupid touchwiz bull**** of the sgs.....wait until u see the browser resolution as well! Horrible....wait.....did i mention samsung's kies software? Well it suckssssss......thats when it really identifies ur phone....although i lost arnd 300$ sellng the sgs nd gettng the dhd.....im not sorry i got rid of that thng
For me SGS is much better than DHD... My gs still perfect even if it is dropped while in mine DHD there are no levers of the volume because were detached.
Perhaps you'll notice that the ram is less but this minority will be satisfied by the fantastic display Super Amoled! The GS also while having 3 megapixel less than camera of dhd take best pictures and video runs much more fluid and detailed ... Just watch it on youtube... Then gs is much more customizable in terms of hacks.
So... Make your choice...
Yeah.
Sgs is a great phone. Borrow your mates for a few days and see.

I think if you want a phone in such a range you can wait a 2-3 months as samsung is going to launch galaxy w on September 1 Berlin event it will have a 1.4 ghz single core processsor and 3.7 inch screen! If u can't wait for it thrnvuo for galaxy s as it is the best in its price range!

its still single-core, not much upgrade except the size and the overclocked cpu.

Well it depends on the rest of the specs too.
on topic, I love my sgs. The kernels, roms, upgrades, mods, it's a lot of fun to learn about and make as good as possible. I wouldn't trade it for much else. Try out your friends phone and imagine how good it could be.

Thanks for the reply guys!
The DHD is perfect, but I just got bored and want to try something new.
And I can't buy a new phone, so I am thinking of swapping it....
Guess I'll swap, & maybe we'll re-swap in 4 months again

Not sure, but surley if it has battery hog issues , then iam not going to CM9 , waiting for an expert reply though
It's definitely better then CM7, and probably better then many other roms out there. At least try it out.

Try tOnecosmic's ICS Port!!!
It is amazing, good battery life, very smooth, works great as my daily Rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398223
I DON'T recommend going to ICS just yet (unless you want to beta test), builds are still too early, they are unreliable for everyday use and it'll be a while until we get a stable and good performing rom, CM7 is much better right now, but it may change in the future though.
ICS launcher FC a lot, gallery app and browser are laggy, and if you use live wallpapers everything slows down a lot, also there are many app incompatibilities now. I tried to like ICS but it's still in alpha stages (don't believe all those RC1 or beta labels, it's really not ready)
CM7 is great but yes, it's a battery hog. You could use a samsung rom (a custom ODEXED rom or stock are fine) and a custom kernel, I use semaphore with thunderbolt and it's very good performing, it can't touch CM7 in RAM management (isn't as good in multitasking), but videos, games play nice and samsung has a few good apps (it's dialer has smart dialing and its a looker, it can play almost all videos even h264 720p 60fps, music app uses very little battery since it's HW accelerated and its browser is as smooth as the iphone's, it can't be touched by CM7's), and you can delete all other samsung bloatware.

Thanks for your reply !! , i used to be on almost every new ROM lately but i couldn't handle the Lag even with using Thunderbolt and stuff , it was veryyy laggy and not responsive , iam now on CM7.1 and i have to say it is waaaaaay faster than the sammy build roms , too bad i get some force closes often and i HATE how low the music is , the music player sucks alot of battery though
my best Samsung experience was on Hybrid roms , stable , fast.
btw not all CM9 builds are bad ! you can try search for the AndroidSoul's review of cm9 , it looks veryyyyy smooth !
any recommendations for now ?

Thanks so much man ! i have seen some videos for the onecosmic's port and it is veryy fast indeed !!!!
i wonder how long do you last with heavy usage / medium usage ?
what about standby ?? , iam so going to try this soon !
With heavy usage I can use my Phone one day, but this was the same with Gingerbread.
When I only have low or medium usage, the battery lasts 1 1/2 - 2 Days, very good for a non final release. But most i charge my phone every night.

I didn't watch any videos, I flashed both versions myself and ICS isn't ready yet, got too many FC, lags heavily on some occasions and isn't as fast as CM7 (we're talking about the version for the i9000 right? )
It'll reach great performance levels in the future I'm sure, but saying that it's perfect for daily use or better than CM7 is just going a little too far.
And have you tried a high LMK for sammy roms? Like 80MB or higher, you won't be able to multitask much, but performance will be very good for games or heavy apps

I guess iam going to skip flashing CM9 then ! , iam an average-heavy user
- well , i have never tried messing up with memory but i assure you i have had troubles multitasking , and very very very bad response time on almost any sammy rom , even with overclocking i don't really feel any difference
all what i used to flash on sammy roms was base rom + custom rom on top of it + some tweaks like thunderbolt script , overclocking wasn't even noticed
i also used to tweak the colors

That kind of depends on what you're looking for in a phone. I have a Galaxy S, and I'm very happy with it. However, it's now been replaced by the "Galaxy SII", which is probably considered "nicer" by most people (slightly better screen, faster dual-core CPU, etc, etc). The SII will be more expensive, so that may be a factor for you.
If you want a phone that just works, can play .mp3 files and games, and has good screen and memory as standard, then the Galaxy S will do all that and more.
Thanks for your reply.... i was more interested in is it a good phone to root and does it have many stable costum roms

Yes; very easy to root; has a wide choice of custom roms; is "officially" supported by CM7; and the community is working very hard to port ICS to this phone. Also very hard to "permanently" break from a custom-rom point of view - "download mode" means almost any other problem is fixable.
I got one more question before i buy it..... which one is best galaxy s plus or galaxy s
There are a lot more ROMs out there for the SGS compared to the SGS+, although some/most (not sure about this...) will work on both phones..
I don't have any experience with the SGS+, but if you're looking for ease of rooting and ROM choice, I'd go for the standard SGS

Thats true. So i would also say I9000.
galaxy s
I have an option to buy my friends galaxy s which is used for a year in good condition. The i9000 is discontinued in india for some reason, and worse phones like the galaxy s plus and lcd are introduced. I just wanna know if its worth buying the galaxy s now or should i wait for the galaxy s advance so i'm more upto date on the technology? Personally i feel the i9000 was a phone ahead of its time when it was released it still can beat any 2011 single core 1ghz phone and the sgx540 is used in the galaxy nexus too so it must be a pretty good gpu. I just need your opinion on this. Thanks
Both S and S+ are great phones.
If you prefer lots of custom roms then you can go on SGS, but if you like faster cpu (can be overclocked at 2 ghz) and stronger battery life like me, then SGS+ is obvious choice at similar price range.
But don't you think if we use the sgs+ battery in the sgs and overclock it to 1.4ghz,the hummingbird would perform better than a scorpion running at 2ghz? I'm talking about overall performance which is including the processor and gpu.
Am not sure about that.
Adreno 205 is very good gpu used also in Xperia Play for example.
Together with 2ghz processor is still better solution for me.
I found this comparision test between two gpus:
http://www.grandmax.net/2010/10/adreno-205-vs-powervr-sgx540-mobile-gpu.html
Thats an old comparison between android 2.1 and 2.2 obviously there will be a big difference, according to the latest benchmarks the gpu's rank as mali400-adreno220-sgx540-geforce-adreno205.
Can you provide a link with those latest benchmarks, i like to read it.
Thanks.

After reading this thread my conclusion and answer to your original question remained the same.
These two phones are very similar to the overall strength and the only difference is in relation to the CPU/GPU.
However i9000 is discontinued and is more logical for me, to purchase a new model as his closest successor.
My feeling is the galaxy s if you are after adding custom roms to your phone. The community is massive. Personally I don't think the other phone will compare. Remember the S2 has actually replaced the galaxy s. I say this as the S was samsungs frontline phone at the time. All others are rehashed s phones aimed at a different market segment. If you are going to get a new phone i would go for the s2 or possible wait for s3. If you need it now i would get s

Yea i think i'll go for the S itself, S2 is way too expensive, the price hasn't fallen since its launch a year back nd besides i'm gettin the s for 1/3 the price of the s2 . But any idea how much will the s advance cost? If its somewhere close to she s2 itself then there's no use of waiting for it.

Bcoz of such lack of education many people hard bricked their S+ , no roms from s work on s+ , it's a totally different hardware, bootloader partitions etc..
As for those who commented the gpu, according to all benchmarks there is no big difference between adreno 205 (with updated drivers) and sgx.

The phone is rubbish with stock Samsung OS and software! Slow often glitchy, long waits for simple stuff like switching between apps or even going back to the home screen.
BUT - with a custom ROM this phone is potentially AWESOME. Lag is gone, battery life much better. I make my girlfriend jealous and she has an iPhone 5S, lol.
Slightly bigger screen than iPhone, much lighter, more sturdy, expandable memory, FM tuner, and with a custom ROM loads more features and better interface.
Some ROMs are not available for this phone but a lot are: Many available from maclaw.pl, I've tried CM11 but found Carbon (latest unofficial KitKat) has a few more options and some nice optimisations to maximise battery life without sacrificing performance at all.

Hey, thank you, i think i will stay with it, and what can you tell me about games?, is good enough?, thanks bye
With stock, framerates go slow sometimes - since going custom no probs at all. Play a lot of Real Steel World Robot Boxing, a 3D effects-heavy game, runs without a hitch. Screen quality good, graphics good.
I just got one yesterday as a replacement for my work phone. I was using an iPhone 4 on iOS 7. thdevicee mini is a about the same size, but I have the benefits of android, root, larger screen, and the Google kit Kat keyboard. compared to the outdated iPhone 4 it's a decent upgrade.
my personal line is a galaxy s4. the s3 mini doesn't compare, but given that the s4 is my primary device and the s3 mini is for work calls and email only it's pretty dang good.
its a good phone but we have only a few developers for custom roms
---------- Post added at 12:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:43 AM ----------
also we still dont have miui rom for example, wich almost every other phone already have one stable :/
custom ROM support, or lack thereof, doesn't make a phone good or bad...
if flashing ROMs is a priority, get a nexus as AOSP based ROMs on pretty much anything else sucks. any device with a Google Play Edition version and an unlocked boot loader will be a very close second.
I think the S3 Mini is a very nice phone but there are many other phones which has better performance and battery but they are not so cheap like the S3 Mini The Moto G is okay but the Gaming Performance is bad.. sry for my bad english
It's typical mid-range, with a decent custom ROM every day tasks are quick and the phone is very responsive. It'll gobble up casual games easily and some old intensive games but unsurprisingly you're not going to playing brand new high end games!

[Q] 2 Years later... How happy are you with your 4X?

The title says it all!
I wanted to hear about you guys about how satisfied are you with your Optimus 4x HD ! Say if it matched your initial expectations, long term satisfaction, if you still feel its fresh and not obsolete, how happy are you with LG's support to the phone and if you regret or not having bought it. Oh , and if you feel your battery performance is as good as in the first days !
Bring the debate on !
Hey . I really feel its a better device than it was at the beggining. Everything is more smooth and faster. I prefer official cm sources over p880-dev but the strength goes from those second and there is future. Even if official sources gives fluidity etc i hope p880-dev sources will be fixed from all bugs if it is possible.
I agree. There was a period when Android 4.3 came out until early Android 4.4 (until Demetris got in charge of CM) that I was very desperate and I was thinking of replacing my p880 with something else.
The thing is, now it becomes better and better by the day. Especially with Official CM. It has got to a point that CM11 is smoother and generally better than stock.
Now that we're getting M builds (reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55447963 ) I expect that we can finally have something even more stable and reliable than ever!
I think I could keep using this phone until we stop getting official CM support (or until it breaks )

Oh yeah, battery drain is definitely higher on everything 4.2+
I'm using what my signature says, but I don't mind charging my phone a lot. It usually makes throughout a whole day (barely). Sometimes it doesn't.
I'm not using any special apps for the time being. I used to use Tegra Overclock, but since I stopped using iodak/cyodak, I don't really need it.
If battery is something that you're really concerned about, stay on 4.2. Otherwise, if you're willing to sacrifice some of that in order to get performance, features and the latest version of android, Official CM is worth checking out!
For me it is another time the community is great.
2 years ago, the stock LG was crap, locked bootloader etc...
Now, CM11 is starting to work correctly (i mean, all the bugs are fixed, and we could enjoy a really different experience), OmniRom, and a lot of others.
I'm simply angry LG did not support / open source everything they could after 6 / 8 months. The smartphone is not updated after this time, and some spent hours of hacks to make it supported.
Kudos Demetris, Lauffenstepenwolf, Adam77 and others.

Totally agree with you. The official support of our phone was crap, without the development of our great developers I think I would have ditched this phone long ago. After 1.5 yrs of using the phone, I think custom rom is the major force that keep 4x users, while official JB just drive them away.
I am satisfied, but the device is nearing end of its life cycle for me. I knew if i chose this device, I'd choose good hardware for lackluster official software support, so I hoped for an active devs to bring us latest android builds bugfree, and that's what they did, to everyones delight ;p
Flashed device 1/2 hour after I purchased it. Original LG ROM was awfull. Worked fine on cm10, works even better on the new cm11 snapshot. Thanks @Demetris I'll gonna keep p880 as long as it will work
Gesendet von meinem SM-T520 mit Tapatalk
im no so happy because battery life terrible, gps is terrible, camra like 5 mpx
The battery is really bad, the phone is not as smooth as is should be, APN not very good...
I use it since 2 years, and at the end of the year i will change it !
Probably for a Nexus 5, or Xperia Z1, Moto X (2013) or OnePlus One
But thanks to this amazing community :victory:
Yeah same here, terrible battery, constant lags, touchscreen accuracy issues and a lot of little things that ultimately add up to make for an awful experience all around.
Can't wait for the OnePlus One to get officially released without the need of an invitiation so I can leave this pile of trash and regret behind.
Now to be fair to the devs, ROMs have improved a great deal recently but no piece of software in this world can save this phone.
Only good thing is that you can use it as a hand-warmer in the winter since it always gets so hot.
Apart from battery life, and ultra weak camera, i like the phone...design is good, screen is good, performs well for me.
But battery and camera are MAJOR flaws. i will change this phone as soon as i can.
I have had my Optimus 4X for almost 2 years (will be 2 years at end Oct)
Initial Expectations
Yes it did meet them when I bought the phone. It was fast had an awesome screen removable battery and removable storage.
It has also been brilliant at streaming media to/from compatible devices and plays most types of media files
2 years later does it meet expectations? The phone does what I need it to do but sometimes is a bit frustrating when it wants to pause/freeze so no it is not quite meeting my expectations atm
Long Term Satisfaction
After LG dropped software support and concentrated on their G2 and G3 I'll admit I did feel my device was feeling a little obsolete!! But I have a Galaxy S and S2 running KitKat and will be installing custom ROMs on my LG soon to bring it back up to date and give it a new lease of life
It's quite rugged taking a few drops with little or just bezel chips
Camera - Takes good quality pictures and video
Battery life isn't anywhere near as good - it's been rinsing the battery especially during gaming.
Bad bits
LG support, yes I have had to send it back at LG's expense but the lack of software support doesn't fill me with confidence!!
Camera takes a whilst to get ready to shoot
Phone can warm up a fair bit espec during some games
There have been times I have almost regretted buying it but having a think about it - No I don't regret it
its ****,
- some plastic lost here and there, power button 50% unresponsive, and 60C when watching videos
but i love it. yeah, this thing has a soul
My 4X looks like new after 1,5 years use. Screen have no any scratch but battery life is shorter about 40%. I always carry it in my pocket without any case. I think that was the best choice for this amount of money.
Sent from my LG-P880 using XDA Free mobile app
Yo estoy muy muy contento con el 4x. Uso la rom de Zaiben que es perfecta para mi. Saludos
For me it is still a nice device.
Even battery works like others of my friends.
(but I use profiles either with pure 2G for telephony and battery saving or 3G-only for surfing)
We have newest ROM state and still 4-5 cores are state-of-the-art and only LTE is missing.
Camera ist working OK, but not high-end
and GPS sometimes great and sometimes bit "curious".
Overall , I am still happy and will wait for bigger differences to newest phones in the market until I will switch.
So, lets hope for further support on our custom-side ... :fingers-crossed:
After 2 years still looks like new device, very satisfied, I am playing with ROMs (MoKee, Beanstalk, Vanir, Nameless, ATM on ZAIBEN RC16), for the time 2 years ago on my opinion best buy device!
Looking forward on new Beanstalk ! :victory::fingers-crossed:
It's okay, just that it gets lagging and heats up very fast.
Using Vanir nightlies and battery drains fast. Looks like time for a replacement battery =(
