[CONFIRMED] [WORKING] 64GB Sandisk MicroSD Card Class 10 - HD7 General

Alright Folks! The news we all have been waiting for!
I recently bought a HD7 16gig and wanted more storage. I wanted to use it as a PMP.
After going though most of the first 10 pages of results on Google, I found that many like me were
confused if just like a 32GB card, a 64gb card would work with WP7.5
There was so much confusion on this topic with many folks wanting confirmed answers before
they shelled out for a bit of silion they might end up not needing...
So I mustered the courage and bought myself one of these:
http://www.sandisk.com/products/memory-cards/microsd/
The Sandisk Ultra 64gb MicroSD-XC Class 10 (XC stands for Xtended capacity)
This card runs on exFAT and is fully supported by the HD2.
WARNING: YOUR PHONE NEEDS TO BE UPDATED TO THE LATEST BOOTLOADER FOR THIS TO WORK SUCCESSFULLY.
ALMOST ALL 5.XX.XXXX (XXXXXX) WORK. ANYTHING LESSER MAY NOT WORK AND MIGHT POSSIBLE BRICK YOUR PHONE.
Steps:
1. UNPACK the SDcard and mount in to your windows PC
2. Quickformat the mounted 64gig drive with the following settings:
Filesystem: exFAT
Allocation unit size: Default allocation size
Quick format: CHECKED
NOTE: DO NOT NAME THE SDCARD, LEAVE THE VOLUME LABEL BOX EMPTY, IF IT ALREADY HAS A VALUE, CLEAR THE TEXT BOX.
3. Click format
4. Use this step by step guide by PocketNow to remove the existing card and fit the new one.
http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/how-to-upgrade-memory-on-htc-hd7-to-32gb
REMEMBER: YOUR BATTERY MUST BE REMOVED FOR THE ABOVE PROCESS.
5. After all the steps are complete, hold the volume up+down button and press power.
Follow the steps on screen to do a hard reset.
Report:
NO the device doesnt slow down
NO zune doesnt give any sync / update problems
NO it does not suck more battery than before
NO there is absolutley no change in the way it works.
YES my phone is stock WP7.5
Hope this gives all of you some courage.

I missed your PM, but congrats! I took my 64 out to put in my L810, but after learning you can only use internal storage for apps on WP8 (8GB..ugh!), I'm going to put it back in the HD7.

I want to know how to reuse the 16gig card that I took out from my HD7... not clear on that... any idea?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app

There is a thread about formatting the card, as soon as I get to my laptop, I'll link it .

Just get a Nokia E63 (any E series) and reformat it...
You are good to go!
or you can use XMOD rom with the cabsender... (search...)

Very cool
I just completed this hack/upgrade in about 5 minutes.
Worked like a charm!
Thanks for the great advice

what rom carries that bootloader? I am going to try ruu_shubert_s_htc_europe_5.12.401.01_radio5.71.09.02a_22.51.50.21
edit: seems to be working fine on hspl 3.1 with 7.8 rom installed

[Q] Nook Color honeycomb

Does anyone know how to test if a bootable sdcard with nookie honeycomb actually works before you test it out on the nook color? thnx
btw i used the process that was on this site http://theunlockr.com/2011/02/07/how-to-load-honeycomb-android-3-0-on-the-nook-color-usd-method/
Not sure why you need to test it before putting it in the nook. If you're worried about doing any harm to the nook it's really not possible. Just put the card in and try to boot. If it doesn't boot take the card out and boot up normally, no harm no foul.

I second this. By default, all the Main Roms for Nookie Froyo and Nookie Honeycomb have no features enabled that will touch your Nook Color. The only thing it touches on the NC is the Cache Partition in order to prevent too many writes to the SD and to also speed things up. Anything done there won't screw up your NC in a Million years and Switching back to Stock and doing a few things will wipe any evidence. Or if really paranoid you can Flash back to Factory to ensure all is wiped.

thnx u guys, But i have another problem. i succesfully installed the honeycomb and got it to work on the nook color. But when I go to my computer with the sd card plugged in, it says that i only have 115 mb of data on the card. I have an 8 gb card. It's not left on the card, it says 115 mb out of 115 mb of data, even after i deleted everything. Anybody know how to restore it back to the 8 gb data amount thnxx
NookColor Format and partition your SD card back to a usable state
Opinion
Since the OP seems to have been answered, I'd like to piggy back a bit
Been doing some reading on the forums and I have started to vision myself getting in to the nook color honeycomb idea.
But a few questions first...
How well has it worked for anyone who has tried, is it a daily driver yet or too many issues? I have a SGS captivate so I am not too worried about having to mess with it before it works and I can use my phone to access email and all that.
But is it quick and snappy or will I feel like i'm using an underpowered device after using my phone.
And battery life, is it good, acceptable, or what?
Sorry if these have been answered somewhere else i tried to find the answers, but it's getting late and I have work yet to do tonight.
I installed it to emmc..over clocked it's still sluggish. Kinda cool but not a keeper to me.my droid x blows it away on performance. I will be back on phiremod beta 2 soon. Honeycomb is fun to tinker but not primetime. Remember it is not from aosp..missing features. It is amazing how good it isconsidering.
Well...its very promising for being in the early stages of development

i use honeycomb as a daily driver and if you install V2 on the emmc from samuallhaff(not 100% sure of his username off the top of my head) it runs smooth and it is really clean
i get the stock all day battery life(mainly it just sits in my bag when im in class but i have wifi always on so i dont disconnect from my schools wifi) and web browsing is amazing(it doesnt have flash though not a deal breaker though imo)
just dont use live wall papers and set CPU because they drain battery life faster and they diminish performance big time

I just realized that you are running HC from your SD card.
No, if you format that SD card, you lose HC. It actually mentions that in the procedure you linked in your original post.
The reason you only see 115MB on the card when you mount it on your Windows computer is because Windows can only see the first partition, the boot partition, that was written to that SD card as part of the procedure you followed. The rest of the space is taken up by partitions Windows can't see without help.
So if you want to continue to run HC off the SD card you have to dedicate that SD card just for running HC.
SD Card Partitions
while installing the image 3 patitions will be written on your sd-card.
1) root partition
2) honeycomb
3) fat32-partition
to use the full size of the sd-card use a partition manager to extend the fat32-partition.
installed apps can than transferred to the fat32-partition

i was wondering if i put honeycomb on my nook color, not on the sdcard, how would i do it. The instructions on that site only says how to make a bootable sd card. And i was using HC on a level 4 sd card and it said that u need a level 6. But i was still able to get it to run. The honeycomb on the sd card level 4 was pretty slow. i was wondering if i got it on my NC, would it be faster. If it would, can someone show me how?
Just follow the instructions here:

Nope lots of lag still. Its ok not complaining. Lots of fc in dolphin too. Back to phiremod 2.2 for awhile.
You have to remember that the Honeycomb that was Ported is the Preview Release, think Demo version. It wasn't ported from (pretty much)scratch like Froyo was. It is more of a Rom hack. For a better performing version we have to wait for Honeycomb's Official Full release. In perspective, it's amazing how much deeper-blue got done with just the Preview image.

Not picking on you but it's actually 4 partitions.
1=Boot (Basically redirects to the Android on the SD)
2=System (Holds the main OS files of Honeycomb)
3=Data (Where all you're settings and other data are)
4=SDcard (This partition is used as a stand in for a Physical External SDcard)
Also the easiest/simplest way to access the 2, 3, and 4 partitions is to use linux. Burn a LiveCD if you don't want to Install, although Ubuntu can be Installed without Partitioning or other such normal 2nd OS needs. Just get the Windows installer from http://ubuntu.com

SD Card and Honeycomb 3.0 v4 image
I've been looking for an answer throughout the forums on this question but can't seem to find anything. The problem: I used the Honeycomb v4 image with WinImage. The SD card was originally 8 GB. The image file is 4 GB with approximately 600 MB or so of free space. Missing: 4 GB that was on the card.
1. Can I use a utility under Windows to get the free space allocated on the SD card that remains? If so, how?
2. Is there an option with WinImage to allocate the additional space on the SD card as free space and include it as part of the image that is being written to the SD card?
3. If I need to restore my SD card back to 8 GB, can that be done in Windows Explorer (not sure that Windows will pick up the full 8 GB as I haven't tried that yet).
Thanks.
Ohh, you have that problem. Don't know where you've been looking but that has been asked and answered many times. The problem is that when you install Froyo or Honey to the SD it makes 4 partitions like I listed above, but Windows can only see the First Partition and only Formats the First partition. The easiest way to fix is to put it in UnRooted Stock and Format it from Settings. If you don't have that you can Burn a Linux or GParted Live CD and Format it from their.

[Q] Trying to run android on 7inch netbook

Hey, Im trying to install and run android x86/arm on a 7 inch cheap netbook from eBay. I know it can be done "watched on youtube" but i follow the tutorials, download file extract the "script" folder to SD card, insert SD card into netbook, power on and it should start installing android.
This does not happen so tried with "unetbootin" to the SD card, inserted into netbook, power on....still nothing and boots straight into Windows CE each time.
Can anyone help me out ?
I'm assuming it doesn't have a DVD slot?

did you try to clean format your sd card before installing?
use a tool called hp usb storage tool, google it, you can find it in softpedia and format the sd card using it, usually solves a lot of boot problems
Tried formating with the tool to FAT32, copied the script for android to SD, nothing booted into CE and so...tried live usb creator to make the SD bootable still nothing boots into CE.
Really annoying

Now that u mention it im using a 8gb micro sd in an SD adapter.
Try a smaller card . Maybe a phone or some other powered device as the "card reader". Just throwing out ideas. GL.
Does the device even recognize the card when powered on normally? Like as a storage device?

[Tutorial] How to recover SDcard using HD7

Hi All,
It took me a while but finally I unlocked my 32GB SD card after using it in my HD7 to upgrade it to 32GB, in my case the card proved to be un usable.
Requirements:
1• DFT HSPL/RSPL
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195647
Tools you need:
WP7 Update Cab Sender:
download link:
DEV_STORAGELOCK.cab
Download Link:
Download the following ROM
[ROM]XBmod HD7 V 1.01 Build 7720 [25/09] with Custom Cab
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276490
Steps:
1) Boot phone with VOL- Pressed
2) Flash XBmod rom, HARD reset using Vol- and Vol+ pressed while powering on
3) boot to get started
4) extract and place "WP7 Update Cab Sender" folder in c:\
5) in C:\WP7 Update Cab Sender\if needed install this tool\ install correct ver of tool for your OS
6) place DEV_STORAGELOCK.cab in "c:\WP7 Update Cab Sender"
7) Confirm phone plugged in to USB and on get started screen.
8) close Zune and wait for process to stop (or you will get error on next step saying its still running)
9) run WP7 Update Cab Sender.bat in "c:\WP7 Update Cab Sender" click S
10) Once complete phone will show message saying update installed
11) click done on phone
12) complete phone initial setup skipping live ID

16) remove SD card
17) place in Windows PC

20) type list disk(this will show you your disks and the sizes so should be easy to see which number is your SD card)
21) type sel disk (then the number for you SDdisk) eg: sel disk 2
22) Being VERY sure you have the correct disk selected now type clean
23) now type cre part pri
24) if all went well remove sd card and reinsert and select it on Explorer
25) it will say its not formated and offer to format.
26) you now have full use of your SD card again
I hope this helps a few people.
Boysie
just used this on the stock 16G card from the phone!! Works like a champ!!!!!
Going to find a pre-mango xbmod rom to try so I can see if it will unlock my 32G card...
Mods,
Can you please make this a sticky???
Tried it myself. Although it's a hassle to put a new Custom Rom on the phone because you lose all your data this tutorial really works!
My only problem was that DiskPart cleaned my SD Card but didn't want to create a partition. I had to remove and reinsert the MicroSDHC card, clean it again and then it worked like a charm.
+1 for making this a sticky. Could be extremely useful to lots of users and the rom that is used is available on all HTC 1st gen devices.
be nice if this SD_UNLOCK could be included in all custom ROMS!!!

if the custom rom supports cab sender then you can just send the dev_storageunlock to the device. it will persist even after hard reset but not flashing.
we just need rom buliders to start support cab sender and we will be good for everything. :0)

When you use an SD card in WP7 the card is no longer usable in any other phone/laptop/device etc.
The SD spec allows for the 'S' Secure password to be setup so only the device that knows the password, in this case the WP7 device you last Hard reset it in, can access the card.
You can remove this password using a nokia symbian device but not every one has access to one.
So the purpose of this tut is being able to use your own HD7 to remove that secure lock so the SD card can be read in any other phone/laptop/device etc. and format or in some cases dual boot to droid if you could be botherd to inflict your self with that rot.
Hope this helps.
Boysie
Ok so does that also mean we can replace the hd7 card with another of our own purchased from off the shelf?

So if the sdcard , can be read by laptop, is IT possible to change its contents like down grade sol, is ECT while the card is in the laptop

Hi there.
Just want to say that my HD7 have Bootloaer(SPL-5.10) and the ROM in there does not support cabs install. But, I have HD2 and install HD2_Updatable_XBmod_Yuki_v2_native with the HD2, and follow the step in this thread in post one(1) and put in my 16GB from my HD7 and BINGO it UNLOCK the card.
Now I am using Android on the 16GB for my HD2 and the 32GB card for my HD7. I might end up switching it the other way round. Won't mind or worry cause now I can UNLOCK the card without any phone.
Thanks for your guide.
PEACE!!!

Best bet is to do the crystal disk mark test on a PC before you install it to make sure it is fast enough. Save time.

[Solved][Q] Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!----Clockworkmod Recovery

Hey guys, I'm having a bit of a problem with CWMR.
I was on Asylum ICS 14 when I bought a new Transcend 32gb class 4 microsd card.
It worked fine for half a day and when I tried using MX video player later that night, the phone had stopped reading the microsd card.No amount of re-inserting the card would help. The card didn't work with my laptop (running Windows 7) and PC (running Linux) either. So I tried wiping data via CWMR but it shows the error--
Wiping data
Wiping cache
Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!
Skipping format
Format complete
I checked and the data gets wiped i.e. all the use apps and settings are cleared.
But the error repeats no matter how many times I've tried to wipe.
I tried flashing a stock GB firmware(KL3 to be exact)and I still get the same error. There is no real problem with the wipe,it works just fine.
Thanks guys
And yes, I've changed the microsd card-it's now a Strontium 32 gb class 10 card.
Not my fault really, my dad just went out and bought the Transcend one
Hmm...sorry about that...I didn't think me rating on my own thread would count !
This is common on pretty much every device out there, it's nothing to worry about.

Really? No disrespect, but there would be at least one thread about it if it was a common problem ?

It might be a problem with an update, because I'm suddenly having the same error. I'm about to backup my recovery.tar and try to install an older version. Xperia Play 4g with stock 2.3.3, rooted. I've made backups before, and can't find any info as to what a solution is.
The .android_secure folder is a super hidden folder that contains all data from when you move an app to your sd card.
What might be your problem is that you have two of them. One in internal storage and one on an external sd card. Try taking the external one out and backing your phone up to the internal one.

And yes, I've changed the microsd card-it's now a Strontium 32 gb class 10 card.
Not my fault really, my dad just went out and bought the Transcend one
Hmm...sorry about that...I didn't think me rating on my own thread would count !

It happened to me also, try this take out your microsd, do factory reset (only on save kernels), format your microsd
Insert it, boot up your phone.
If I'm not wrong, there was a faulty cwmr , which cause this.
Update your kernel
Maybe your card is faulty.
I recently bought sandisk 32 gb card and put up in my galaxy note. It kept saying no card inserted. Same error on windows 7. And after that i come to know that its a factory fault. Got it replaced from the service center.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Fixed.
Flashed abyss kernel 4.2 and did a fullwipe.
Then went back to ParanoidAndroid.
Dunno what caused it, but I no longer care as its fixed
Sorry wrong thread.
Any fix? I need that android secure folder

[Q] Rebooting issue (Nook HD+, CM10 build from 1/19 from verygreen)

Hey all,
I got a Nook HD+ a few days ago and started doing some of the things listed here on the forums. One of the issues that myself and others have in the Android Development forum (which, because I am a new user, I cannot post to) is that the ROM will randomly reboot. The file /proc/last_kmsg was requested, so I'm posting it here in the hopes that it helps track down the issue (attached).
The best I can tell from that is that it seems to be freaking out about an I/O error and then losing track of the filesystem.
The SD card I'm using is the SanDisk Ultra 32GB Class 10 card.
Let me know if I need to add any other information.

Thanks for the report.
Unfortunately this is kind of a known problem, which is Sandisk class 10 cards (U1 really I think?) do not work stably, I have one myself that's like this. (actually they are hit and miss, works great for some, does not work for others including myself).
Class4 is what bullet proof.
I get these io errors on my U1 sandisk card even in stock, seems to be something hw-related.

Apparently I got the same issue. However mine occurs usually after device wake up. It reboots to stock.
Got 64gb Sandisk class 10 ultra, cm10 build 20130108.
Checked kmsg file did not find any io errors..

Hello verygreen, I have a sandisk micro-sd same as yours (IIRC) and what I did was to replace it with another. The newer sandisk u1 that I got doesn't throw any I/O errors but still occassionally reboots with all your kernels except than with the 12/31 one (even though I haven't checked it as extensively as the others).
So what's with that? Do you think the instability isssues we're encountering are at least partly due to the kernel?

What SD card image do you use with that? Is it version 4 or 3? I want to give it a try as well

Thanks for responding. I'll look into getting a different SD card. I mainly got this one because it was on sale at Best-Buy and with the ~30 minutes of research (I really, really wanted to do some toying with my Nook that night), seemed to be the best one.
I'll also take a look at the "working SD card" thread and respond if I have any extra info.
Hi, I might have found a reason why HD+ reboots when using CM10.
The reason is WiFi (or its driver),
when WiFi goes to sleep it sometimes cannot reactivate the driver, well Android tries to load this driver, but fails for some reason and this results in kernel panic.
So workaroud for it is to disable WiFi sleep in Wifi advanced settings (make it always on or something), and turn off manually if needed.
However after the tablet wakes up there is a chance it still fails to load a driver and fail miserably when you try to activate WiFi manually.
But until wifi is off, it will not reboot.
I am using:
-0108 build of CM10
-sd boot image ver 3
-SanDisk 64gb class-10 (UHS1)
This has nothing to do with sd card though, cause people with Class 4 getting reboots as well.
I think removing Wifi driver from CM10 kernel and re-building it from the stable source should fix this problem. Sorry don't have kmsg logs, will attach later.
p.s cannot post to dev, so posting here.
Thanks!
SD Card Install Setup
I'm trying to get CM10 on my Nook HD+. I downloaded and installed the img file (#3) fine and put in in the Nook and CWM came up and followed the instruction for the install. 16 gig Sandisk class 4. It created the 4 partitions. I then poped out the card and put it in my Windows machine. The boot partition came up with 100+ meg and couldn't see the other partition unless I used the Partition software. In the notes it says to copy the cm*.zip into the SD10CARD partition..I CAN'T SEE IT IN WINDOWS? I tried to install Andriod tool kit (adb) with no luck.. Says it can't find the Android devices.... Would this work any better with Apple or Ubunto. Ideas?

Yup, a Windows limitation. You can use mini-tools partition app for windows to see them, or better yet, Ubuntu, which will identify all partitions and allow you to transfer zips to the CM10SDCARD partition.

I actually just registered to make this same observation. I'll keep tracking on my own nook, but wanted to add my experience as well. Nook HD+' sandisk ultra 16gb uhs1. Used cwm early 3 and 12/31/12 build. Takes three or four reboots to get back in after crash.
Thanks!
Replied to wrong post... was supposed to be the post about the WiFi... sorry for confusion...

No no no. For copying CM10 zip to SD you must do it over adb and your nook connected to PC (win, mac, linux). I seen that many guides here lacks this info and this confuse users. Basically you do it this way:
Make SD card for CWM
Boot up you nook to cwm
On cwm mount SD card
Attach with usb cable nook to pc
Copy CM10 zip to sd (look to command example). You can copy additional zips on this step too (GAPPS or other needed stuff) After copy you can remove cable
Reboot command on CWM
You Boot to fresh CWM
