Hi and sorry if i'm wrong here, but i am not able to write in the dev directory, yet.
I unlocked and rooted my phone but now i am not able to update to the new OTA 39002 version.
Is there a way for a temporary unroot or something like this? Because i want to keep my root!
Thank you for help.

Thanks for fast answer.
I thought the same, but when it is starting up to update in the middle it shows the "dead" android with the red "!" , you know.
after that the phone boots normaly and it says "not successfull"...
i already tried some times...
I will try the rootkeeper, thanks for that again.

Have you change some file (like to disable camera sound ) ?
I've the same issue with OTA, and I revert all changes I've made in the past, and it work.
If you rooted your Device by changing the Kernel, you have to flash the Boot signed of the Base FW (32 i guess).
The update compares the Base Rom and the Root Exploit set you an secured Kernel, that doesn't match with the System > Problem solved.
The Root won't deny the Update. You can temp. unroot with the ported Rootkeeper (thanks to Mattlgroff) and restore the Root after the Update.
But the Boot.img must fit!
I think i did not change something. Except the kernel that came wih the rooting by mattlgroffs tool.
So i need to change the kernel with a recovery kernel via adb?
Could somebody tell me the comands? (With cwm on a SGS was it a bit easier )
Sent from my XT890 using xda app-developers app
Yes, you have to use fastboot for it (it's in the Folder of the root exploit)
Download your current FW, unpack it and copy the Boot_signed into the Root folder. Then open the cmd window, navigate to the Root Folder by cd command.
Flash the image by
Fastboot flash boot boot_signed.
Alternate you can rename it to razr_i_boot.img and overwrite the secured Kernel in the Exploit. Than just root again and it will flash the right secured Kernel.
Thank you. I will try that today. Btw. where can i find mattlgroffs root keeper? The version in the play store does...nothing?

Ok so i am a retard and accidently deleted the ATT OTA update app. Any idea how to get it back or how i can update my S4 i517 when the time comes for 4.3 ?
Thanks!
(Yes i know i am an extreme noob )
Title is kinda
self explanatory, for too long reasons to explain I don't have CWM Recovery so I have ADB and want to remove AT&T bloatware. Can I do this through ADB, without root? (Well I am rooted, but I'm stuck on stock so yeah). Without root? No. But you say you are rooted, and if you are, then yes. If you can do "adb root", you can uninstall them.

I am assuming that your phone is rooted...................
If you already downloaded a cwm/twrp flashable custom rom then skip the next line.
Download the stock based cwm/twrp flashable zip file rom. (if you don't already have it).
-----
With your computer find whatever filename you deleted in the zip file rom which
you have or will be downloading then copy the OTA file to /system/app in your phone.
After that reboot the phone and the OTA app should be functional.
Good luck!
This is a tutorial on how to root and unlock the bootloader of the nexus 4 without wiping any data!
Note: I'm not responsible for any damage on your phone! You choose to do these modifications and you are responsible for any problems!
I tested this on Android 4.4.3, but you may try it on other android versions, too. Please report if it works
Devices you can root using this app:
- Nexus 4: 4.4.3, 4.4.4
- Nexus 5, 4.4.3
1. Install the towelroot app (xda thread) from the project site! Please thank geohot, he made this possible!
2. Open the app and click on "make it ra1n"
3. Wait 15 seconds and the phone will reboot!
Congratulations! Your phone is rooted now!
4. Install either SuperSu or Superuser
a) In the app update your binary the "normal way" (without a custom recovery)
b)
1. Install BootUnlocker for nexus devices to unlock your bootloader! In the app, click "unlock" to unlock it!
2. Now you are able to install a custom recovery like TWRP or cwm
3. Boot up your system again, open SuperSu or Superuser and update the binary (using "TWRP/CWM")
This is it! You're rooted now and you can easily unlock/relock your bootloader using the BootUnlocker app without wiping any data
Note: This was not my work! I just wrote down some steps to root and unlock
How to unroot:
1. Reflash the stock recovery image/stock kernel/etc (only necessary if you are running a custom kernel/recovery/etc)
2. Open BootUnlocker and lock the bootloader. Now you are able to uninstall the app!
3. Open SuperSu -> Settings -> Full unroot. This will unroot your phone and the app will automatically be uninstalled.
4. Reboot and done
noob clarifications
Hey, came across your post in another post where you mentioned this method would prevent the posibility of the phone being wiped when unlocked + rooted via "traditional" methods using a PC w SDK etc. Phone at present is locked, unrooted stock Nexus 4 kitkat 4.4.4 stock.
Just wanted to clarify a few points since this is the first time I've come across a method where the phone is rooted and unlocked from within itself (I've rooted and unlocked a HTC desire back in my heydays).
--- Do I need to unlock the phone if I just want to change the kernel from stock to the Matr1x kernel? (I had taken unlocking as a given as it was the first step in every guide - there is no mention of steps on how to actually install the kernel but I was going to research that process once root and unlock was done successfully)
--- Any chance you can give steps on updating the binary the 'normal' way? (never done this before)
--- How do you install CWM using your method? Again, I have only seen it being installed via command lines from the PC
Apologies in advance for the dumb questions but searched and couldn't find any clear answers for those steps that I'm not understanding

1. To flash a kernel you have to unlock your bootloader, that's right. You just flash it using your PC and fastboot, there are many guides on how to do that
2. If your phone is rooted and you have SuperSU installed there'll be a popup and it'll tell you to update the binary before using the app. You are able to select the "normal" way then without a recovery
3. You can install CWM/TWRP using your PC in fastboot mode!
No problem, just ask :good:
Can the usual commandline methods for other things be used after this?

If you mean fastboot commands for example to flash another kernel/recovery/etc, yes! There's no difference between unlocking using this method or another "old" one, but this one doesn't wipe data

yes. can also be used flashify to flash recovery.img without PC
I think I'll give it a try then (assuming there's no risk of bricking my phone or doing irreversible damage). On that subject, is there an easy way to lock the bootloader and unroot?

Of course I lost root and it is still 4.4.2, but I can not find any documentation on what changed. Has anyone else received this update?
Baseband version: M8974A-AAAANAZM-2.0.20064
Kernel Version: 3.4.0
Update: TowelRoot does not seem to work with this update!
also got it. its a 220+mb update.
I just got this update as well. I got the message that says it is downloaded and wants to install. I am rooted with TWRP installed now. I have read that some people have had problems and been bricked when they tried to install some updates in the past. For this reason, I went into the hidden menu and disabled OTAs. Guess that didn't work. Has anyone else taken this update being rooted with twrp successfully?
You won't be able to rooted or with custom recovery. Check out the meta-inf script. It will fail if any fishy is going on with your device. I'm going to edit it later tonight so I can post the flash able zip for us to update. All its really updating is the radio.img and a few other apks as well as some security updates.
Checked no update for me. In the Houston area. But read online it was for the VoLTE update and In Flight text messaging

Once we flash and update, towel root will work again? Someone said they couldn't get towel root to work after the update. For now I'm just playing around with cm11. If someone would get it or another ROM working pretty good, I'd just use it. I had planned on selling the flex and use my bump to get a nexus 6 through t-mobile. But if things get rolling a little around here. I'm happy with my flex. I wish there was more I could do but its over my head. My previous two devices were a Nexus and HTC they were easy compared to this.
How do you disable OTA updates?
Sent from my LG-D959 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I pulled out all the "abort install if blah blah blah" lines from the Meta-Inf folder and all the lines to install the priv-apps and just for my sake i took out the priv-apps since it would replace with .odex and im deodexed. Checked the updater script for any other "abort or security" crap. Didnt see anything else. So i repacked the update into a flashable.zip and flash away. It adds this really cool "SECURITY ERROR" Under the LG logo on boot up. And transforms the device into a temporary outrageously expensive paper weight.
So i rebooted into twrp and restored. So far a no go. I think after digging through it and seeing what all is in it.....im just gonna make a flashable of the new radio.img incase it upgrades ours and gets better service or picks up those techno tunes from Venus.
I had 2 back to back updates, but I ended with D95920m.
I accidentally downloaded the update. I actually don't even remember doing it. I just saw that it was successfully downloaded. It hasn't updated yet. Is there anything i can do to get rid of it? I don't want to lose root. I don't have a custom recovery installed. I only have root access as that is typically all that I need.
Also, any chance anyone has tried to use towelroot on this after it breaks root? EDIT: Never mind, just saw the OP's update that towelroot will not work. F this. I need to get rid of this phone.
I renamed the file that it downloaded, so at least now it is just asking me to download the update again. I also installed a TWRP in the mean time. I guess I just need to disable updates now.
I am in the same situation... Can you please tell me where the update is downloaded to? I need to rename mine as well in case I were to accidentally hit install update.
How do you get the update notification to go away?
I have seen the option to hide it in one of the xposed modules, but can't remember which one...

Hi,
I have a T-Mobile LG G Flex that used to be rooted and after android system update now it doesn't have root access. Here's the thing: I ran TowelRoot and it displayed the following message: "This device isn't supported". Can anyone point me towards a solution for this? I made a new thread regarding this matter because even though I've seen many people post similar situations they're for other type of devices. Any help will be deeply appreciated.

I'd say you might have to grab the tot for the d959, flash back to stock and run the updates again, then use stump.

A lot of peep have been posting that they're not able to root the latest update with the previous methods. And also T-Mobile doesn't use a tot file. Its .kdz. But not gonna work due to the latest update doesn't have download mode. So if you're on the latest, I suggest find a root method ( try stumproot, safe root, I/o root, vroot, towel root, hell id try anything. But that's me. I don't suggest shoot blind if you don't know what you're doing) then install freedom flex get a custom recovery then make a backup and flash d'fuse's rooted KitKat and disable ota's.

Anyway today I got a replacement and pulled it right out of the box. I declined the updates, so it is on stock firmware. I plugged it right into King Root and it successfully rooted it. I used a root checker app to make sure and it said I did not have root, but when I use ES File Explorer I have access to the framework of the device. Is this normal? Also when I put the device into recovery or fastboot mode my laptop recognizes it as an HTC Dream instead on the normal fire. Feedback is appreciated! I forgot to add I used the PC version of King Root NOT THE APP!
Thanks!
Trenton
You can view the file system in something like ES File Explorer, but you can't modify it in anyway without root. And unless you have the SU binary, you don't have root.

I tried kingroot on day 1 also. And kinga. And towelroot. They don't root the device. Try installing any app that requires it, or try supersu, or check your shell in terminal. It's not rooted.
i would check the /system directory. if you can edit/add files there, then you have root. personally, I use Root Explorer, as it works best. also, you may want to download and install SuperSU from the play store to help.
I got into fastboot mode and installed the adb drivers for it.. I think we may have a chance of installing a 2nd bootloader on this device as we did for the other one like otter device. This one is codenamed FORD

3.0 it said that the root was successful, but I have confirmed that I DO NOT have root access. I thought I did :/. Why would it be recognized as an HTC Dream in fastboot mode though?
Maybe your usb hub is werided out or you installed your htc drivers with your kindle?

If you want, @Chainfire just released a new way to root, by just modifying the boot.img. Try modifying your boot image to have the modifications in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63197935&postcount=2
Mine is also an HTC in fast boot, something about dream as well.
so far i got it to make the su directory and stuff but i think i messed up on the partion which i need to fix. if anyone wants to modify the boot img i have attached the tool i used to unpack (if your using windows) as well as the one i extracted from the latest frimware from amazon's website.
I included a file that includes how to unpack and repack the image.
This an unmodified boot.img
If we can make a temporary boot.img that has root then we can edit the necessary files on system folder and root it to make a permanent root.

Good work! I'll see how much I can do. I don't want to mess up my tablet, so if someone has multiple ones, they can try.

Technically we arent flashing the boot.img but downloading it to the kindle temporarly using "fastboot boot boot.img"
So once you restart it it will be gone, right now im trying to figure out a way we can flash the super su image without any custom recovery. Pretty sure if we once we get an unlocked bootloader it will be easier for us to root with this boot.img by flashing a custom recovery then use the modified boot.img im trying to make with the hammerhead template and then downloading and installing the flashfire/flashify to permenantly flash supersu.
