[Q] Going from CM10 to stock Touchwiz - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, so I'm currently looking for a way to go back to stock Touchwiz (4.0.3) from CM10.
I'm currently running CM10 and i do have a Nandroid backup from when I was on Touchwiz (and running PhilZ safe kernel), but the thing is I've been running CM10 for a few months and have a lot of new data stored on my phone.
So instead of backing up anything new and just restoring my backup, could i just flash a stock firmware through ODIN or CWM on top of CM10? Or if I tried that would I have to wipe anyway?
Thanks any help appreciated.

going back from custom to stock causes boot loops and a wipe will be necessary. so better do a nandroid backup of th current rom, then when in stock rom, use tb to restore data using the nandroid backup.

Ok this thread is dead but I will have to revive it now because I wanna do the same thing.
I have been on Cm10 and wanted to go to Alliance ROM today. So like a complete idiot I flashed pre-rooted KJ1 gingerbread ROM from Dr.Ketan over my CM10 and got stuck in a boot loop. Luckily had a nandroid backup and now restoring as I type.
What is the correct process to go from CM to stock GB or ICS?
Any and all help is appreciated
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Kaushik
EDIT: I flashed the pre-rooted GB ROM because I wanted to do a full wipe and then flash over to stock ICS and then to Alliance JB ROM.

Either flash using PC odin. after flashing if on GB, boot into recovery and do a factory reset. If on ICS, install a safe kernel (eg,Philz) and reboot recovery and do a factory reset,
OR
Flash a custom GB or ICS rom using recovery after all wipes and formats (system, data, cache)

[Q] Not Bricked but not usable phone while moving between MidNote and Rocket

I moved between my Nandroid backup of Rocket and flashed MidNote couple of times.
Somehow phone now hangs at restoring system while restoring either GB backup or ICS backup.
Flashing Rocket Rom 1.4/1.5 from CWM Recovery results in system with no Radio (phone, Wifi etc.) and unusable which hangs frequently. Not able to launch System settings and hence mount USB.
I tried downloading CheckRom and flashing that from CWM it got stuck at Formatting /System and /Cache.
Then tried formatting /System it just remains stuck there.
What are the possible reasons for that and possible solutions? Should I go to stock ROM via ODIN?
Thanks in Advance.

Try formatting all data and cache and dalvik. Then try restoring. And if the restoring has failed then it might also corrupt your nandroid backup. So the best and safest bet will be to flash a directly rootable rom from Dr Ketan's guide and after that install rocket or midnote or checkrom.
Hit thanks if it helped!
Did try wiping data, cache and dalivk multiple times. It works smoothly. Only problem is with /system. Rocket Rom is able to write to system. But when I try Nandroid restore/Format system/Flash Check Rom, it gets stuck at formatting/writing to System.

Try flashing the abyss note 3.9 kernel. stay in recovery. reboot recovery. then try flashing the rocket rom based on gingerbread from the redpill recovery (which you will get after flashing the abyss kernel). This should work.
Edit : dont try to restore your backup now. Flash the whole new rom. Later get your apps restored from titanium backup or using app extractor to dg them out from nandroid backup file.
Installed abyss 3.9, downloaded it earlier when moved to ICS.
Started download for Rocket GB ROM, but as it was taking huge time, gave CheckROM a try with Redpill.
And it worked like charm. Will now try moving to MidNote Again.
Thanks for your help.

Glad it worked for you!! Enjoy your Note!!
And if moving to midnote ICS then remember by default the recovery will be clockwork mod and no flashing of zips will work in this. Always you will have to flash the abyss kernel and reboot recovery to get redpill and then flash the zips and then flash the CF kernel again to get clockwork mod recovery and then reboot the system.
Hit thanks if you like!!

From my understanding if you are running an ICS rom you can upgrade without wipe if it's an update to the same family ROM. Otherwise, i would recommend performing a wipe first since you'll have remnants of the previous Rom installed still and have no way of knowing if any elements are interfering with your new install.
I use App Backup and Restore for my apps and SMS Backup and Restore for messages. Doing this means wiping isn't half as laborious as without at least these items backed up.
Maybe it's a bit overkill but i always backup what i need. Wipe, Install, Reboot. Let the phone do what it needs to. Reboot into recovery and factory / wipe / clear cache and fix permissions. I rarely get any problems this way.
Maybe this is helpful to you.
Thanks for sharing.
As per you above comments i can directly flash the ICS dark Knight rom from the current SGS RC4.2 rom by just flashing from the recovery mode?

ya you can.. but its always better to do a backup of your apps/ data and do a factory reset and then install a new rom through recovery.. a fresh install would prevent any problems... also in every rom's op the install instructions are given.. better to follow those as you'll be able to get better help in case of any problems..
Thank You..Point Taken !!

If you've flashed a CM7 rom there's no way to restore a stock rom from backup taken through CWM5. The filesystem format is not compatible.
You'll need to flash stock from Odin.
Yeah, flash a stock firmware with Odin and then when you have done, install cwm recovery (because installing a new firmware erases everything so also your cwm recovery that you had) and try to restore your backup.

Wipe everything then re-flash ROM.
Reboot before flashing anything else.
For stock rom, go to download mode (power+home+vol. down) and connect to PC.
Get stock rom and ODIN.
Check out guide to using ODIN: ODIN for Dummies
format all wipe all install this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1962762
You can not recovery stock rom over a CM 7 because the last one reformat the internal partition to EXT4 uncompatible with stock rom. So flash a stock rom with ODIN (possible the same you used for the nandroid backup) than restore.
Inviato dal mio GT-S5830
I think you need to do a full format using ODIN..and reinstall CWM and install CM7 and try to recover your backup from CWM.:good:

Can I restore ICS nandroid over JB rom?

Hi
I want to return my Note to stock. When I first bought it I rooted it and made a nandroid of the stock ICS rom that was on it.
Since then I have installed Alliance Rom on Jellybean. Can I just restore the stock ICS nandroid straight over the JB rom or will this brick my phone? I've read that there's something about ICS stock kernels that can cause bricks so I'm a bit nervous about how to go about it.
I have already downloaded the two files from the unroot thread to remove superuser and binaries, do I just flash these after restoring the ICS nandroid? Also, how do I get back the stock recovery?
Sorry for such basic questions but I'm new to the Note and it's a bit different to flashing things on the One X which I came from.
Thanks x
yes.. you can restore the stock rom nandroid.. but i am not sure as Alliance JB LSZ use TWRP recovery and the backup you made may be using CWM.. so its better to install a CWM kernel on the rom... Like philz and then restore the rom,, for stock recovery you will need to install stock kernel..
but why go into so much trouble ... just install a stock ICS rom using pc odin.. (no wipes after installing stock ICS rom).. make all the wipes while on a safe kernel

The Odin way does sound a bit easier, I'll look into it. Thanks for explaining about the ICS wiping problem.
Much appreciated

galaxy note from 4.4.1 to 4.0.4 downgrade

How to downgrade from KitKat to jelly bean 4.1.2 through recovery
You can only flash custom ROMs based on touchwiz ROMs through recovery like sweetrom or aryamod .... or use Odin to flash original Samsung firmware because you can't use recovery to flash original firmware.
Press thanks if I helped you.

Downgrading to JB is as easy as booting into recovery, wiping data, booting into download mode and flashing the stock rom
or booting into recovery and flash a custom TW rom or restore the backup if you made any before flashing Omni.
I have a non-rooted phone upgraded with what Samsung provided (several OTA, then Kies to 4.1.2, N7000XXLTC).
I'd like to downgrade to stock 4.0.4. My steps are:
1. wipe cache & data from Recovery (would a Factory Reset do both?);
2. use Odin to flash the ROM;
3. never do any sort of wipe again.
Is that correct?

Yes you will need to get CWM.. flash raw or philz kernel and then reboot recovery, wipe and restore the backup.
Let me share my own experience
Whenever i wanna go back to jellybean from kitkat :
1. Do clean wipe
2. Flashing official gingerbread rom
3. And then installing jellybean..
I dont know why but whenever flashing jellybean after do a clean wipe it never works so what i do is flashing gingerbread first hehe

I'm on 4.4.4 DU Rom.. The phone got hanged after I enabled the allow mock location option. Then the phone got stuck at the Samsung Logo screen. I went to recovery and tried doing factory reset, but it failed with error as unable to mount /data. After that recovery mode is not available, but I can go in Download mode. So, i tried to install JB 4.1.2 - N7000XXLTA via Odin. But the process gets failed after 'NAND write start'!!!
Any solution???
