OK so I didn't back up when I started flashing roms. Right now I'm using thrillseeker with great results but I need to start all over and back up my stock before I flash again...unless there's a way to download and flash through cwm recovery...or can I just use the LG updater and then pick recovery phone.? Please help
Update totally fixed
OK so I tried a few different methods I found and finally got this thing back to complete stock rom, kernal, and stock recovery....it wasn't that bad....I rerooted and flashed thrillseeker 3.1 then flashed 3.12 update ... a battery.zip and a theme and everything is great.......oh yeah I MADE A BACK UP.
...PM me if anyone needs help...I will do my best..

I recently just flashed a new rom and I had realized I never tried the stock 2.2 from samsung and I was wondering what people thought of it and if they were still able to flash other roms or use odin to go back to stock 2.1 and then flash other roms again. Or does updating to 2.2 mess up some of that?
And is it even worth it to try and check it out?
I am running serendipity and my wife has stock. I would not go back to stock if att were to pay me. Her Gps was messed up, bad battery life and other strange issues.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
the only thing 2.2 may mess up for flashing roms is it installs 3e recovery which needs signed update.zip packages (can be patched ) , and sometimes you need a new root program.
besides that its... stock. with the 2.2 updates...
Has anyone tried reflashing odin or using clockwork/rooting in 2.2?
I'm thinking i'm going to stay away from it at this point but curiosity my get the best of me....

i sucessfully rooted it using superone click method...but had problem flashing clockwork mode as there is sign verification problem...so i tried to flash back to 2.1 and used AIO method...which bricked my phone...so better to keep flashing good custom roms and be unbricked ....stay away from stock froyo...its exactly 2.1 with stock froyo capabilities...

Hi,
First I rooted my SGA running android 2.3.5
Second I tried to install CM 9.1.
Third Some things got messed up, and accidentally deleted my root some way or another.
Fourth Installing CM 9.1 worked!
But then... My phone wasn't rooted anymore
I want it to be root!
I read several things about using ODIN, (I thought if I reinstalled my stock firmware, I'd root it again)
But the problem is: I don't have a orginal USB cable, and my others don't work..
And I can't install KIES on my phone...
How can I flash my phone to the original firmware?
I hope you can help me!

Update it how?
You want it back to Stock ICS? I think you have to use smart flashtool and update using the factory image.
Any other updates/upgrades can be done via CWM/TWRP.
Hmm second thought....

I generally try and steer folks away from anything greater than Gingerbread for the P970. ICS + JB aren't anywhere as stable or reliable. My ROM picks are:
Marvel 9 (with the "There is no delay patch")
Zeus 6.4
I ran an ICS ROM for quite a while and loved it, but I grew tired of the random hiccups, lockups, and freezes. GB is solid on the 970. If you're adventurous, you can try JB or Kitkat. For JB, I'd maybe look at Mackay ROM. For KitKat, Nameless ROM would be my choice. These two ROMs appear to be the only ones that actually have any activity.
Again, for a daily driver, I'd look hard at GB-based ROMs. All of the ROMs should have install instructions on first page of their respective forums.
Try IZSv2

You can try doing a TOT or KDZ flash to go back to stock. The instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476 worked just fine for me yesterday (I used the KDZ method to go back to 12B, seems to be a good starting point for flashing most ROMs).
I've tried uninstalling superuser and all it has. I've tried like 5 times now the install for the new firmware update won't install i keep getting a android with the red exclamation sign and its front door open, then it boots in to android and says update failed. Help please!
Do I have to factory restore first or somthing? i really dont wanna have to cause i just got this phone from at&t as a referb for my old one that had battery issues and its not fun setting everything up over again lol

Hi buddy.
First of all, I don't entirely understand what are you trying to do. What to you mean with "firmware update"? Do you want to flash a new ROM?

Got it. Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751263
You may find all the information you need there. Even if you can't, don't worry, is just a minor update, it is not Kitkat.
I've already been through that thread and haven't really found my solution to my issue. Any ideas?

Sadly no, my friend. Any reason in particular about why you want this specific update?
Let's hope somebody else in this forum can help you.
Are you running a stock recovery? Have you tried using Myth Tools to flash back to stock?
Its running stock rom from factory everything is factory right now
I kept getting the dead Android as well. We're you running a KK ROM on your phone before restoring to stock? I was running Validus and tried to use Myth Tools to flash a stock ATT 4.1.1 ROM which also failed to take the update. I then installed a 4.1.2 Bell stock ROM (my phone came from Bell) via Myth, let the phone boot, and then flashed a stock ATT ROM via Myth and it took the update.

I am on 4.1.1 from the factory. This is a referb phone from the factory like not even a week old yet. Boot loader isn't even unlocked. Its all stock and I'm getting dead android.
If you're getting the dead Android, it makes me believe that something may be wrong with the stock recovery. Some people were able to get the update to install using the latest Philz Touch recovery rather than stock recovery.
