I have this external charger from Motorola. It's worth it, to me; lets me have a charged battery with the phone still being used off the charger.
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Battery-Charger-Series-Batteries/dp/B005LFXBJ6/ref=pd_sbs_op_3
If you are Amazon Prime you can get it tomorrow for $4 extra. Amazon I think still has a Prime trial membership...

If you were on .906 my 1click .exe will sbf you
If you were on .890 my 1 click will still sbf you but you will get stuck at bootlogo
But don't worry its an easy fix
I included a link to the official .906 ota in my thread
All you have to do is download it to your computer
Use your computer to move the downloaded file to your external sdcard
Boot your phone into stock recovery and install the update
Then you will be good to go and on the official .96 ota
There are instructions in my thread as well
Hope this all works out for ya as I'm sure it will!

thanks.. ill check it out.. what works and what doesnt work.. whats it based off of gb or ics... and anyone know the status of jb roms and how stable are they

It is just GB but it fully works. JB can run with the occasional reboot and the camera doesn't work. It is decently stable actually for as alpha as it is.

[Q] DidI just brick

After upgrading to 2.3.3 on my captivate the three button fix was applied, is it hardbricked and needs to send to Samsung?
you didnt read instructions did you?
how do you go back to stock? ODIN ONE CLICK
THEN flash 3 button fix with odin3 flasher ONLY IF YOU NEED TO after 1 click (shouldnt need to)
WHY? well that was in the instructions too!
3button fix only has 1 of 2 original bootloaders.
is it hard bricked?... probab-****in-bly.... does it turn on? you tell us...
send back to samsung, yup but keep your mouth shut and play dumb (shouldnt be hard)
ALL YOU SAY: "it stopped working" and stick it to the back of a big speaker magnet for an hour. (take out your sim and sd card dummy!)
well that was an expensive lesson..
Haha yes you probably did brick. Is it really that hard to read instructions? I flash at least 3-4 times a week and have never even come close to bricking. If you do exactly what the devs tell you to do then its almost impossible to brick your phone. However you clearly didn't read. To answer your question, yes, you most likely did brick your phone.

reinstalling drivers has nothing to do with you phone bricking, so.. please just stop there,
but im not willing to thow out a 400$ brick just to prove you wrong... so fine you win! mix bootloaders all you want.

lol backing up Tru here.. If you mess up with bootloaders, the ONLY way back is a JTAG.
If you can fix it with a JIG, your bootloaders are intact and have never been mixed/damaged.
There is no way around, that's just how it is..
J tag is no guarantee though, 99 % ya but it costs more than I paid for this phone...
And ya like I said no mixy de boot loaders

Locked?

I figured i ask here I bought a phone from a friend and he told me the phone is locked and the users gmail account option will not respond. Not sure what he did but its mine now and im not sure what to do. This is a known glitch ive heard but I just cannot get the work around it. Can someone help what steps do i need to take? He also told me "This is what my friend told me about this phone as i dont have it yet. "If you can get it out of the lock screen from the password yes it is fully functional. You can still get incoming calls and the display is damaged but does not mess with the function of the screen". My question is will factory restore help this? Or what would i need to do? I dont have the phone yet its being shipped. Is this fixable?
Once you get it, you can flash a stock rom and it will wipe everything on it, restoring to like new
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using Tapatalk
Thats grt can you send me a link to the stock rom? Also so if it is locked right now this stock rom would solve that problem? Also the password issue and gmail user account issue? I dont think its rooted does it need to be to flash the stock rom? Im new at all this with this type of phone. Since its already 2.2 does that help. And should it be 2.3.3 now?
Wait. Wait wait, before you go flashing things that could soft brick your phone. What's the build#

I dont have it yet im not even sure i know my friend that had it i think its just the way it is out of box dont know. All i lknow is what he told me the gmail user password issue and being locked. But can get incoming calls and if password was unlocked it would be fully functional and display damaged but doesnt mess with the function of the screen what ever that means. I just would like to think i can get this to work when i get it. I dont care if i have to start over meaning whatever is it at now just reset the whole phone from boot i guess

Before you start flashing, get yourself a JIG. It will fix a soft brick if it should happen. For the stock rom go into the development section and look for the KB2 thread. And make sure you read some of the stickies around here so you know the risks of flashing/modding your phone. Good luck.

With phone off and not connected to the computer
Open odin KF1 ATT GB bootloaders as ADMINISTRATOR and B4 you connect phone(VERY important)
While holding volume + and - plug in USB that is connected to back of computer. That will get you download mode.
Hit start on Odin KF1 BL flasher. Let it finish and reboot you. (will boot into samsung recovery)then delete all user data.
Pull battery and disconnect phone. Close Odin BL flasher.
Open Odin3 v1.85 and place the KI2 tar.md5 in the PDA slot.(which is in a .rar file and the password is sampro.pl You have to extract it to flash with odin.) Start and wait. Let reboot and boot all the way up.
Let me know when its done and I will help you with root, cuz this post is way too long.
Ok ty yes i know the thread is long here is the latest ive heard maybe this might help a little bit. My friend told me after asking about the build #. "You can not get to that menu as the phone is locked on the password screen. Gmail will not kick it out of the screen as it is suppose to". Does this help ?
Wait till you get the phone.
Build number is inside the battery compartment, usually on a white label. It should be 4 digits, which interpret as yymm, the year and month of the time the phone was made by Samsung. Older builds came with Android 2.1 Eclair, referred to sometimes as JF6 software from Samsung. J is 2010, F is June, 6 is the 6th complete compile of the ROM.
After February, 2011, Captivates were upgraded to Android 2.2 Froyo, typically software build KB1, or KB2, 2011 February.
In May, Releases of Gingerbread, specifically for Captivate started being leaked by Samsung, nothing is official yet.
KEx is Gingerbread 2.3.3
KHx is Gingerbread 2.3.4
KIx is Gingerbread 2.3.5
Newer phones seem not to like going to older releases of Android for some reason.
Be careful, take out the SIM card and any SD card before you do anything like flashing.
Pick one of the stock ROM's first, and try to reset the phone with that. In the DEV section there are threads for each of the above. Be careful if the thread mentions flashing bootloaders, and read the directions.

LG thrill unbrick with KDZ

I dont know if people already know this,
but i bricked my phone this morning flashing clockwork with the app instead of the flash adb tool that was made. dont know what i was thinking.
Anyways i was unaware that i could flash the KDZ with the phone completely off with no battery. just let it finish and put the battery back in and its good!
Sorry in advance if everyone knew that
I think I may have done the same thing
I also put clockwork on my thrill today and ended up bricked... but I can't find kdz for the thrill. There's tons of broken links out there for them. Where did you get yours?
And did you flash with KDZ_FW_UPD? what settings did you use?
Yes I flashed it with that. Look around some Guy has a torrent with all the stuff needed. Its Roger kdz.

The torrent file is WAY too big just for that.
1.8GB for flashing tools?
430 MB for just the file to flash and root?
All you need to do is follow this guide.
SEE POST
Every downloadable option in the post along with your .kdz file is approx. 442MB. Give or take on the .kdz file size.
It has all the flashing tools needed. It is 4 times smaller than the 1.8GB torrent.
Thanks stat. I def agree on on doing it with the battery. But that's the only way I could get connection seeing how it was stuck at the LG. And wipes wouldn't work to get me out of it.

You might have bad partitions. That might be pretty hard to fix with only rsd light you might have to make your own fxz flashable zip to repartition your phone. That would take some good coding skills.

There is a program that SamuraiHL has posted called House of Bionic. It's on the droidforums web site and you should be able to search for it there. Either that or google House of Bionic. It should bring up the thread where you can download this program. It's definitely a lifesaver. I would post the link myself but I haven't posted here enough yet to do that.

Make sure you download the latest drivers and the right rsd to be used. Link to find both http://www.droidhive.com/forums/ind...nks-in-op-updated-dailyformerly-whats-in-dev/
The reason for it error in out is because the phone doesn't have enough juice to do the fxz process. Make sure that battery has over 50% charge before attempting or do the usb hack with a cord that you will no longer be using.

I had this same problem. I used my warranty and got a new bionic. I blame Verizon and Motorola for not giving us what we want with an unlocked bootloader. Personally, I feel they should support the rooting community and be able to reinstall the operating system when we mess up, similar to how we can reinstall windows on a computer. They can even charge $50 for the service and be able to do it in-store from a computer. Not only could they make more money, they wouldn't have to replace as many devices.

You blame Verizon because you voided the warranty and ****ed up your own phone? Blame yourself for buying a phone that was known to have a locked bootloader to begin with.

I would have to say that this is the reason there will most likely never be an unlocked phone sold again for VZW. By doing this you are making everyone look bad! You break, void warranty, then you should have to buy another one. If you don't like my statement don't try something you apparently have no knowledge to do.

Need help to Hard Brick my phone

Yes, you read correct, I want to hard brick my phone not unbrick it but at the same time not leave traces of evidence of tampering. An unusual request it may be, but I have tried everything but just cannot get the damn thing to brick. I wanted to brick it and then experiment on possible ways to unbrick it. And then if all failed, I was going to send it back to Samsung to see if they find any traces of deliberate tampering. Come on geniuses...I know you're out there somewhere

Ok Just tried to load up the firmware file for a Ace Plus on odin 4.38 but it wont accept it and comes back with "out of memory" error on the PC screen. Will try Rom Manager.
Bingo! Bricked it. I take it there's no way that I can attempt to revive it? Also I hope there is no traces of CWM Rom Manager, Superuser or Busybox
I don't know about the traces. But the only way to revive it is JTAG or replacement motherboard.

Next time, I'd rather make a backup in CWM and then restore it from another Recovery. What this does is delete the boot.img, so now your phone can't do anything and Samsung can't get any logs etc. from the device.
Also REMEMBER! Play dumb when taking it to the Samsung store! Don't mention Roms etc..

Or rename a text file to boot.img and flash it as a ROM. This gives a totally faulty ROM.

Thanks guys, gonna give it in to service today and will keep you guys updated. I like the above method as it definitely would not leave traces of CWM, Superuser or Busybox. Duh, why didn't I think of that:silly: but too late now. maybe next time or someone else.

Any updates dude?
Wow. No wonder phone manufacturer doesn't honor warranty nowadays.
Seriously if u want to do such scam u should do it quietly without creating thread asking howto do so.
This is nice.... You can brick your phone in the last month of you year warranty and get a new phone/motherboard
Once my friends phone switched off suddenly... Non rooted stock
It happened suddenly and also out of warranty
She had to pay 5k to the Samsung people to get it repaired... And the plus point she got 14GB internal memory with the new motherboard
Her phone was the Samsung galaxy S i9000
it would've been done in free if she had warranty
So maybe you might get the GT S5830i.. The new version mother board or something
Best of luck

I would have done it quietly if I didn't need the help. Duh! Besides, I doubt this is the reason why they don't honour warranty. I think it is more to do with that they are greedy corporate companies who would rather save at any cost irrespective of whose fault it is. I mean why should they penalise someone because of something someone else done? After all you are all paying customers. They scam people everyday and no one complains. I guess people only complain when it happens to them. You can buy a new phone and have it go faulty within 2 months. Do you think you can get a new phone under warranty from them? No it will be a refurbished one and doesn't mater how much you scream and shout for a new one, they don't care. A neither do I.

No, I think it is the same motherboard. What I don't understand is, whether it is the same motherboard they repaired or a replacement one, as this phone was initially locked to the Three network. I had it unlocked. So a new motherboard would have meant that the phone would be locked again. But when I received it back, it would still accept any sims.
