For the people using rooted KF HDs, are you able to use OTA RootKeeper to "hide" root from Amazon Prime Video like you could with the original KF? Seems this should have been the first question asked on Day 1
Amazon video still works after root on the 8.9.
Works on the 7" aswell. 7.2.2 rooted KFHD
OTA Works

Like others said, this new Kindle Fire HD 7" allows us to use the Amazon instant Video app even while rooted! I did install OTA and it did make a backup /preserve root for me -but I have not needed to use it at all! Maybe if I go to the Google Play store and try and rent a video from them I might need to unroot, but since Amazon has all the content I need -at good prices-- So far this is just good insurance for my rooted KF HD7!

Hello,
Has anyone tried using Amazon Instant Video in the android browser? My device is on its way back from HP and this would be useful to have. Otherwise I might sell it without rooting it and go for the Kindle Fire.

Plays just fine through most Android browsers including Dolphin HD. When I first tried months and months ago it did not seem to work, but in the last month or so I found that it plays just like it does on my notebook PC, so all is good.

I have been able to play them in Dolphin. I do have the Hulu modified flash installed. I am not sure if that is necessary for Amazon though.

It should work in the browser. There is also the app ripped from the Kindle Fire which installs fine on the Touchpad but won't play on rooted devices.

Just root your Kindle & install Play Store. That will give you access to more apps than you could possibly need.

Hello BRICS brother, I live in Brazil and bought a Kindle Fire HD last week.
Some functions simply do not work like the Amazon AppStore (requires an US credit card) but the rest works great. Reading books and comics on the new display is awesome.
After rooting and installing the Play Store the device becomes even more amazing, now I like it better than my Ipad.
Buy the new Kindle and be happy my friend!
Hello . Will rooting the KFHD will allow us to buy ebooks at later point of time thru amazon services. i may be interested as a android tablet which will allow freedom to user on downloading apps and games and also to read ebooks. will rooting would help . if so i can think of buying one. please let me know.
I would like to put the CM 10.1 ROM on my Kindle Fire, but I don't want to lose Amazon Video. I'm assuming that Amazon Video doesn't work if I put a different ROM on my Fire. Is that assumption correct? Is there a way around this?
Thanks for any insight.
Funny I just installed it yesterday(amazon video)... I'm on the tablet version of cm 10.1, and I installed a version of amazon video I found laying around in the forums that is said to work on other android devices, here's the catch, the device can't be rooted, or so I have heard just like on kindles once you root it the instant video won't work, though k thought that was only prime so I am not completely sure how this affects it. So my answer that needs to be improves on is yes the app will work, as to actually watching the videos I am not sure, you may have to de-root the cm os, which I am not sure if that is a good idea. That's my 2 cents, see if anybody else can be of more use.
Edit: ever time I try to watch a free video I get a "unfortunately this program has stopped working" error
Seems like a stupid move for them to not release an android app for us to use their services, they'd rather we buy a kindle, or in this case not flash our kindle if we want to use it.

My Kindle is already rooted and prime videos work. I have the stock rom with the play store. I want to use cm 10.1, but don't want to lose amazon prime videos. It's disappointing that this is even an issue.

I have CM10.1 on my Kindle now and live abroad so I cannot even use the Amazon video store. I'm curious though - can you access the videos by logging into Amazon in the tablet's browser instead, like you would if you were on a desktop?

You can if you have flash installed and working.
I just discovered that the Kinology ROM allows the use of Amazon Video, plus all the google framework and 3rd party launchers. It's not CM 10.1, but it is better than stock.
I have CM 10.1 and live abroad, I use a VPN and Firefox to watch Amazon Prime Videos.
I am currently looking to buy Kindle Fire Hdx - 7" - 64gb and have lots of questions on purchase,
Should I wait to buy a different tablet which will be used mainly as an ereader of my color pdf books and magazines running my apps but I want a tablet good for gaming and watching movies as well so how is the Kindle in that regard?
The tablet I looking at has ads and how hard would be to totally remove the ads once rooted.
I want to be able to use the upcoming Fire OS 5.0 with a Lollipop ROM.
Is that possible now and how would it work as a dual boot or would the ROM and OS run concurrently?
Any words of wisdom on getting the right root and ROM for Kindle Fire Hdx?
I dont have tablet yet but seeing there are some conflicts with newest 4.5.3 or 7.5.1 firmwares. The number maybe higher that the ones I listed I just grabbed to numbers from YouTube posters.
Why 2 different numbers I am guessing 4.5.3 is for Kindle Fire Hdx what the other number mentioned?
I want to be able to use this tablet as a converted setup using google play store so how hard is that to add to tablet and what would it break in the process?
I want to purchase this tablet soon so posting now to get some feedback started. If this thread should be placed somewhere else for better coverage feel free to do so.
TIA!

Unfortunately, there is NO (zero, zip, nada) option at present to root a 5th gen Fire running FireOS 5.3.2.1 or above. Nor can you roll back to a rootable build of FireOS. However, you can install the Google Play store:

Please make use of the XDA search function before opening a new thread. Root question has been asked and answered many times.

LOL - thank you! Posted a quick response by mobile and got burned by auto-correct. "Magisk can't be used" was the intended response. I have updated the post in question.
Does anyone know if any root is available yet?
This device is slow on Fire OS.. too much going on for such a slow processor etc. Ironic..
I am also interested in rooting this device.

No root on 7th gen Fire. 5th gen devices running FireOS 5.3.2.0 or lower can be rooted. There is no rollback option for those on 5.3.2.1 and above (device will brick).
Just FYI for those searching, still no root. I'm keeping it on 5.3.3.1, which it came with as of 2 days ago.

Same prob here , saw a couple of threads...it seems the safer approach is to not to attempt downgrading and simply install Google Play (I already did it and works fine - you can practically install anything you want). The problem is actually you have to live with all the junk Amazon puts on the Tablet...;(
Ads on the lockscreen can also easily be blocked..
Blocking of OTA updates does require you to be root, so unless a means to stop OTA from happening shows up, our tablets will continue updating themselves ad-eternum
Cheers,
Gizmo

Downgrade from 5.6.x -> 5.4 is safe and permits disabling (not uninstalling) Amazon 'bloat' if you know what you're doing. OTA updates can be blocked via VPN based firewall but that adds to the cpu/memory load on this already resource constrained device. In the end it's probably best to do as @ThyGizmo suggests for practical vs safety reasons. Take the device for what it is - a slow but serviceable Amazon ecosystem appliance (shopping portal) that can also be used as a generic Android tablet with some limitations.
I just wanted to remove all the amazon apps. I don't use them.
I use web browser for shopping. I don't have amazon books, movies and many of their junk.
Don't get me start with the spy amazon alexa.

I get an eerie feeling Pandora listens to me sometimes. It has access to the microphone mostly because it intertwines with Google Assistant but I swear sometimes I'll yell at Pandora for not playing the music I like or a song I haven't heard in forever and within a few minutes the song is played. I've been able to do a few times with somebody else in the room and they thought it was quite creepy to. So I guess in a sense you could say that was "spying". But just because an app has a permission to use a certain piece of hardware doesn't mean it always will use it.unfortunately without Root you can't install app Ops which would tell you if a permission was ever used for that specific application.

FUD fodder. Slap a piece of tape over the mic and call it a day.
ok, after reading advice. I have decided not to root this Fire 7 5th gen.
After I install Google Play. What the best way to make this device to run better? amazon apps eat all the RAM and CPU.
