Not all Nexus 4 are born equal. - Nexus 4 General

I ordered two n4 and they arrived one day apart. I notice some interesting differences:
the 1st one came with 1. lower battery, 2. older android 4.2, 3. the color of display is "colder(bluer)"

It might be worth posting some comparison pictures to show people what you mean.

All of those things can be solved by updating it to the same version of android as the other one. They are all created equal, the firmware is just different

What he says is apparently truth, I saw a review someone when also had two n4s, one with and without update and you could see the difference that you describe distinctly, and when the update was performed, they were calibrated to the same levels

What's 'lower battery'? Do you mean worse battery life, or it shipped with a lower amount of charge already in it?

The screen temp difference is normal. I work with hundreds of iPhones every day and every one of them are a different color.

[HW_REV] Will Nexus 4 with not definitive HW_rev be replaced?

Hello all,
before open this thread i tried to find similar discussions, but i have not found it.
So, i've a problem as many other Nexus 4 owners: HW_REV. My Nexus 4 has HW_REV 10 but seems that newest stock of Nexus 4 have HW_REV 12, probably the final and definitive HW_REV.
The question now is simple: will Google replaces Nexus 4s with different HW_REV from latest?
I've read many post in many sites, but no one says "yes, it will be officially replaced"!
Thank You and sorry for my english
Re: [HW_REV] Nexus 4 with not definitive HW_rev, will be replaced
If you don't have a legitimate problem i doubt it.

Sounds like you are trying to find problems to get a Rev12...
stop being greedy and be glad you've gotten one at all....let some people who haven't had a chance to order one get it shipped before you strat asking for multiple replacements just because yours isn't new enough for you.
THIS is one of the reasons they are out of stock, people!!! If your RMA can wait, please wait!! You don't need to get a second one as badly as some need a first!

if LG has noticed some problems and if my smartphone is not as it should be, then I do not see why I should not let me change it! LG changed this: camera, rear glass and display! I think that thay make a BRAND NEW Nexus 4, so i want the FINAL Nexus 4 as ALL other users.
No, they will not. Every phone got many different revs, it's not a big deal. If they would recall every nexus for the new rev they would have stopped the sale of the old ones. Get over it, there will most likely be a rev 13 after 12 anyway.

I work in electronics. When there are these minor HW revs, its usually a cost reduction on part of the manufacturer. All it means is that they probably took out redundant components. If they made any sort of change that would affect performance, there would most likely be a new part number.
I have an upgrade in April, so I could care less

Replacement phone is different than the faulty phone

Bought nexus 4 last month it was 301k then found its volume down button doesnt work so called Google managed to get replacement so Today I received my replacement phone which surprisingly 301k but after playing with it whole day I've found many difference between my new one and the faulty one.
The screen is much brighter in the faulty one, white looks very bright which looks very good but screen is kinda yellowish on the new one. I've installed pa ROM on both phone because its colour calibration is much better than stock, however blue colour looks natural on my new phone that's probably because of yellowish screen but on the other it hurts my eyes as its screen is bright.
Vibration is little bit strong on the new phone.
Sound through earpiece was louder on the faulty one but not that loud on my new phone but I still think its loud.
Phone gets warm quickly on the new one. Therefore faulty one has best benchmark score.
Camera is good on the both but on the new one camera lens placed very accurately.
Battery life is same but new phone charges quicker than the faulty one. Left them on charge today new phone was full charged after approx. 2.15 hr and faulty one was full charged after 2.35 hr.
Pressing buttons experience good on new phone but on the faulty one buttons are hard to press.
That's all I have found sending my phone back to Google tomorrow but I liked the faulty one screen looks very vibrant and bright if I could fix the volume button I would have kept it. By the way has anyone else noticed any difference on their replacement phone. I could make a video but don't have any camera but managed to take a photo of both phone.

I don't believe the revision changed anything of this nature. Spreading these types of rumors are what makes all the dummies go and rma when they're is nothing wrong with the current phone..
To the op... You are saying that both phones are turned all the way low with brightness? Your old one hurts your eyes when turned down?
I think every phone will look a little different but it could be due to using different versions of the rom and Kernal you are using. To compare you should bring them both to stock and make sure they are using the same versions.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Not all phones are exactly the same. I would suggest find a ROM/kernel / and color preset found in XDA That makes your phone to your liking. Unless you feel like u have a serious issue then get another replacement.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Well neither I'm saying something wrong with my new phone nor saying I'm gonna RMA my device. Just feeling but wired that new one has different things than old one. yes I've installed same ROM on both and same brightness level but the display is just a bit yellowish believe me or not on stock you can see the difference.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I noticed similar differences. I have had my rev10 for 2.5 months now and just bought a rev11 this week and definitely noticed a little more of a yellowish coloring on the new one. I also did notice the 11 did have a stronger vibrate than my 10 did. I did not however notice any differences in the earpiece quality.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Screen being a bit yellowish is a good thing cause less chance to get yellow spot which I had on my first nexus from first batch. This is my third nexus by the way and I have to say I have had different experience with three of these phone

A sudden fix is not likely but not impossible. Would one of you please go to
Settings/About Phone, scroll to the bottom and take a screenshot (power button and vol-)?
I'm interested in the Kernel Version and Build Date.
I wonder if they are different than the ones of the latest 4.2.2 release.
The highlight of my day was when my life long Apple user borrowed my phone to check a sports score and said man this this feels so sexy and is fast as hell. The screen is nice. In using trinity and custom gamma.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Hi
After going back to stock 4.2.2 using the factory images and clearing everything before installing the images I noticed the LCD colours have changed completely. The more washed out look I was used to is replaced by a much richer display, matching the HTC One X now, although not quite as overly saturated as the One X which is a bit too saturated.
My phone is from November and I was very familiar with the more washed out look, and I just assumed it was fixed in 4.2.2 that I see now.
Perhaps the new settings can only be picked by a complete wipe and install, hence phones shipping with 4.2.2 look better as they are a clean install, whereas maybe an OTA isn't changing the calibration settings.
Regards
Phil

New batches being shipped (build #311k)

So I actually posted this in the RMA thread but it just got lost in all the posts. Plus I can't find it posted anywhere else.
First two phones I had were 310k, both had faults and had to download the patch before using the phone.
My third phone is 311k, no faults and it came with KitKat preinstalled (no patch to download)
To check what build (batch) you have, look on your box where it shows the model #, imei # etc and look for S/N. The first 4 characters = build #.
I'm going to try and keep a log of all the build numbers and see if there are any changes to the phone like with the Nexus 4.
So.. so far:
310k - Need to install KitKat - Seems to have quality issues from my experience
311k - Preinstalled KitKat - Quality control seems better
This is just based off of three phones though. More information is needed.
Mine downloaded the update at first boot, i don't have the box here right now, but i will report the build version tomorrow
Edit:
ye version 310k here too, lets see what the rma one will be, it should be here next week
yep mine says 310k and mine updated when i turned it on.. kitkat was NOT pre installed
When mine came in the mail November 15th it already had the update patched on it straight out of the box so i guess I had the second batch. Mine is 310K
Mines 310k had to update to kit kat

They(HTC) no longer hold a stake in the company itself, but that doesn't mean they don't still have licensing. From what I heard, Beats will continue to be offered.....but, that could just be rumor too.....
According to these articles, it sounds like the M8 isn't going to be much better than our current device. 2GB of RAM, UltraPixel camera (no reference about actual pixel count)
I hope these specs are not correct because I will not be getting it if they are.

The phone would need to be a bit bigger for a larger battery. I think that battery life on my DNA is awesome. Although I do run a custom rom and kernel (latest cr-palmer kernel). I really don't think that they should use a smaller battery either, hopefully it will be more advanced.
I have a feeling (other elevate members will know what I'm talking about) HTC is considering going back to removable batteries.
