Hi guys ,i think galaxy s3 has a home key thin and hard to press and go to recent app panel and turn back home is uncomfortable ;
I have not found a guide so i'm here
this guide is to replace the home key whit the left soft touch key :
FILE : generik.kl and gpio-keys.kl in system/usr/keylayout
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
you must edit file whit a notepad .
1)Start whit generik.kl .
we have :
On the left column are in numerical order all the codes of the individual keys and touch that hardware.
In the middle column are the key functions.
On the right column we can find the attribute WAKE and WAKE_DROPPED and that should allow you to wake up the cell to display off (There is to be researched).
In my case the keys that interest me are the 139(MENU) and 172(HOME) .
n the images the numerical values of the left column of the affected keys were simply "exchanged" .
2)Now open gpio-keys.kl .
This file lists the four hardware buttons home(172) , power(116) , volume su(115) , volume giu(114) ;
In my case you simply "update" new HOME 172 key function in MENU.
I think if your changes do not affect the above keys, you will not need to edit the gpio-keys.kl file .
Personaly i run ELK4 4.1.2 , but the guide should be universal and valid not only for S3
here the modded files as in the guide to paste into system/usr/keylayout
nice one mate!

Wow this is really cool!
But i want to change my left soft key into power/screenoff when holding it.
Instead of google search i want to change it into power/screenoff and keep it as menu, is that possible?
I have been playing with it for a while and i manage to make it work

Hi, that's what I would LOVE to be able to do but... how do you access the menus then since the 3 dots are not usually shown in apps on devices with the hardware menu button??
P.S. the ideal solution for me would be to get the 3 dots but alternatively assigning the menu function to the menu button long press would be good too. Is there a way to do either or both of these 2 things?

[FIXED]
now that I know how to remap the windows key on the qwerty, I will write a small step by step for other users having trouble with PQzII
Please note that all photos here are taken from the PQzII website, but I'm making them a little bit more simple.
http://www.nicque.com/PQz/DOC/index_e.htm
After you install the application:
1. Tap the white square until you get a drop down menu... choose Setup
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. On the first Tab [Ctrl/Alt] choose an SIP for Portlait/Landspace mode.
3. Choose a button from your qwerty that you don't use and you want to be used as Ctrl, for example Windows button (you can do the same for Alt)
4. You're basically done here... but you still want to get rid of the white square near start button, right?
5. go to a tab called [Icon]
move the bar to right so you get ICON POS= 240 [this is in portrait]
6.Change the orientation by sliding out the kb, then do the same as in #5. but now ICON POS=320
Please not that after you have don this trick, you will no longer see white square any more, thus you won't be able to enter the setup unless you go the PQzII folder and rung the setup manually : hit program PQzII_Setup.exe
7. make a shortcut of PQzII.exe in Windows/Startup
8.Done!
if you wish to know about the rest of the options PQzII offers, please visit the link posted above.
PQzII will run in the background in order for it to work
I had some problems with PQzII and Arabic Localization[can't write arabic untill I close PQzII even if the arabic SIP is choosen], but this may not concern many users here
I know this is not the greatest gide, but I wanna share my info with other users, espesially those having the same problem I had befor....

Hi everyone
I was wondering if there is a way to map a button from the qwerty to act as Control button?? let's say Fn key: when you press it for long time it'll become a ctrl key
I have seen many applications that can remap buttons.. but I couldn't find any one that will work on the qwerty.. all work on the hardware buttons next to the screen and on the sides of the device...
any ideas??
thanks in advance
Question how can I map Ctrl button to the hardware
HI!

I can tell you how it works on my hermes, i guess its the same with the Kaiser: If you Switch the Win-Key to Control-Key via PQzII this will also affect the front Win-Key, not only the Win-Key on the Slide-Keyboard...
Gue
it only affects the Win key on the qwerty
thats a bit of a contradition up there..
since the site is down.. i will post the cab
I cant get it to work... all the sites with the info are down or dont give explinations..
all i get is a little White box next to the start menu.. i was wondering if someone could give me really simple instructions on how to replace the windows key with the ctrl key.
Please read the first post, I have updated it with a mini guide, hope this will help
cheers
doesn't work

how did you manage to affect only the qwerty win-key and not the front key? in my kaiser both keys are affected by assigning the ctrl to the win.
i checked that both keys have the same system key code so technically it's not possible to assign in any application two different behaviours to these two keys. dod you really manage to do this? if yes, let me know what settings you put.
WIN hw butt. as CTRL
Doesn't work on my HTC TyTn II
I set PQzII like manual but HW keys doesn't work.

sorry i was not clear, i mean the hardware button, not the one with the task manager.
I'd like this, too.
If you tap the X on the screen with your finger or stylus, it closes the app. If you press the OK button (much easier), the app keeps running
If you don't have it, AE Button Plus is a must have app. You can assign multi functions to every button. I have OK set to close, Plus double tap and tripple tap options to launch some apps.
I use AE button plus, and like it. But if all you need to do is close an app, you can do it with the phone completely stock just by clicking the end call button.

You could try VJOkButt ,the author used to be very active on these boards, mapped to buton 4. I have not tried this on my Kaiser. It worked well on my Wizard but eventually got replaced by SmartsKey.

I'm sorry, you're right. I had used that a few times before I loaded AE button, and my recollection was that it closed them. I see now that it just brings you back to the home screen. In that case, AE button is a good choice to accomplish what you want. And you can keep the stock functionality of the ok button, and put close on a double-click, or click-hold if you like.
Thanks alot for all your contributions, i will give it a try.
I wrote a MortScript that uses the MouseClick command to click in the upper right-hand corner, and then used AEBPlus to map the OK button to it. I had to map it to one of AE's virtual buttons first and then make the change in the standard Settings | Buttons.

If you already have AEBPlus, you don't have to do all that. It has a "close active application" command built in. You simply map whatever you want to that. I have it mapped to a press-hold of the OK button.

True, but I also use the script for other context-sensitive commands depending on the program (I use the same side OK button for "back" in PIE). Call me crazy.

If you have AEBPlus installed, you simply run it, select the button you want to change (in this case, button 4 is the OK button), click in the box down below the button selection, then in the first drop-down you tell it you want that button handled by AEBPlus, and in the second drop-down you select what type of keypress you want to assign (in this case, single press), and in the third drop-down, you select what you want a single press to do (in this case, "OK/Close", then go back to the second drop down and select "long press", and then back to the thrid drop-down and tell it what you want to do for a long press (in this case, "close active application"). Then just exit AEBPlus.
Thank you both (dscline & panosha) for the info !

Hello All,
I just share to make your Xperia T/TX/GX into full screen mode (Your Device MUST be ROOTED)
First, The apps is not written by me, I just share the apps and the link
Second, I just share my experience on this "If make your device burnt, don't find me!!! ha XD"
To hide your Virtual Button, you need to install the "Full Screen Toggle V2" which come from the Galaxy Nexus
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497558
Thanks to mrx8836350
But Before you active this Apps, you need to use another apps to make you can press "back , Home, etc...buttons"
So that you need to install the "GN LMT V1.5"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150
Thanks to noname81
The Full Steps (Root your device before start the following steps)
1) Install GN LMT
2) Config the GN LMT, you need to set your Device to "2" from the GN LMT Setting, after that, you assign the action on pie or gestures
"If your gestures is not work, please double confirm you had choose the Device to "2" , from the GN LMT Setting"
3) Test the GN LMT is work or not
4) If work, please make the GN LMT auto start from the GN LMT Setting
5) Install Full Screen Toggle V2 "Must be V2", after that active the Full Screen Toggle
6) Reboot your phone, after that the soft button will disappear and you got the 4.55" full screen
Thanks~~~

Thanks for this. I'm planning to upgrade to a T very soon and this will be very useful.
However..
I think I may be able to do one better and put these keys in the drop-down notification screen. Which means no extra app's, just a bit of modding.
But I'll need someone to test it on..

I haven't had a chance to work on this yet, but that's a good point. I can probably put the back button in the statusbar but the full-screen issue is a good point. There's not much I can do about that. The camera button can probably be remapped so that's the home button, but that's a bit impractical.
You can always exit games without the home and back buttons anyway

Hello Fish,
Finally I can modify the Navigator Button Size by myself
I search many post, no one can tell me how to solve the aapt bammi issue
After a long long search, I found a post said, if aapt not work then bababababa...
The method is, build the unchange version of the framework-res.apk first
after that, modify the res/dimens, then build the modified version
Extract resources.arsc from both unchange / modified framework-res.apk
use the Binary different software to compare which address value is different
After locate the address, and modify the original framework-res / resources.arsc
But the address is not the same, but the pattern is almost the same, so need to search
Use Hexeditor to edit the value which you want "you changed"
Then put back the resources.arsc to the org. framework-res.apk
Then finish~~~~~
PS: modify the Hex address, call up my memory of playing Nitendo to modify the save file or even crack the PC games password ...ha...
I posted this earlier in the main HTC M8 forum bug list post and figured it belongs here instead because someone with the ATT version said they don't have that. This is something that I experienced before and after I rooted the Sprint M8.
Basically what happens is that once you enable the setting to long press home for menu under settings and try to use it, it just takes you back to your home screen every time. I was expecting this to be similar to the long press for menu setting the recent apps button had with the EVO 4G LTE.
Go to Settings > Display, gestures and buttons > Buttons - Home

I'm glad I'm not the only one! This has been driving me insane since day One. No pun intended.
I'm not sure how many people here had one but... this reminds of the quick launch WebOS introduced back with the Pre. I hope we are able to add more apps to the quick launch.
Same thing here, along with the unlock screen. You swipe up too low it brings up Google search or browser. Highly annoying
Yeah I'm going crazy over this too. I thought maybe something was supposed to pop up in the bubble along with the search icon when you hold the home button.
I'm sure we'll find a way to make a persistent menu button.

Just swipe up without turning on the screen first. It turns on and unlocks the phone. No risk of accidentally going to Google and you save a step.
Neither setting in that section seems to have any effect as far as I can see. The home button always acts like "home" if you press and release, or press and hold, and even if you set "press and hold" to be Google Now, pressing and holding still simply acts like you just took a long time to release and it acts as a "home" button.
And, I haven't been able to figure out at all what the "Home double-click speed" setting even refers to.
I think the double-click speed refers to how quickly you need to double tap the screen while it's off to turn it on, maybe? Not sure why anyone would double-tap then swipe instead of just directly swiping, but whatever.

It sounds like these are settings left over from the M7, which didn't have on-screen buttons and long press home was needed for menu and double tapping the home button was needed for recent apps. Sounds like they forgot to remove the setting when they switched to on screen buttons.

The menu button shows up for me correctly in legacy apps. This is the correct behavior per http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2012/01/say-goodbye-to-menu-button.html?m=1
If ES File Explorer is setting the SDK version to 11 or higher and not providing an action overflow or other on screen way to access the menu then that is a bug with that program.
EDIT: In ES File Explorer, click on the button in the upper right to slide out the "Fast Access" panel. There is a settings button at the bottom of the panel.

You're correct, of course. When I was writing that I had already pressed the button, causing it to move to the upper right when the panel slid out.
Hey everyone,
I saw how people are suffering to change key behaviours for their S6 device, so I created an tool app that makes that easy.
Just launch the app, select a button, reassign any action and let the app restart the device for you.
Remember: You need root for that.
You can assign many new behaviours to your buttons, like:
Code:
[B]"NOTHING"
"APP_SWITCH"
"MENU"
"POWER"
"HOME"
"BACK"
"VOLUME_DOWN"
"VOLUME_UP"
"CAMERA"
"SEARCH"
"BRIGHTNESS_DOWN"
"BRIGHTNESS_UP"
"CALL"
"FOCUS"
"CALCULATOR"
"MEDIA_PREVIOUS"
"MEDIA_NEXT"
"PAGE_UP"
"PAGE_DOWN"
"CONTACTS"
"MESSAGE"
"ENDCALL"
"VOLUME_MUTE"
"SLEEP"
"WAKEUP"
"MUSIC"[/B]
If anything goes wrong, you can everytime restore the default, by clicking the big button on the app.
You can even assign the brightness to your volumebuttons, it you want so. Samsung supports it fully.
Here is a screenshot with the app running, and a volume button acting as a brightness changer:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Mod Edit: DL link removed at OP request.
If should work on any S6 variants, probably even S5 and earlier....
But the design is exclusively for our S6 :laugh:
Try it out and hit thanks, if it helped you

very useful app , thanks alot but please add a longpress action option
Any plans to add long press actions? Thanks
Excellent, been looking for something like this for a while since All in One Gestures never worked right for me and don't want to install the alliance framework just to remap the buttons.
I also second that adding long press as an option would be great and on top of that if possible I would love to see the possibility to re-assign the volume buttons to always change media volume by default, instead of ringer volume.
Super!!!!

Any plans for 2xhome for example for camera like on Note5?
Thank You! It works great. In the near future, are you going to remap APP SWITCH to "5" (long pressed key)? That would be awesome!

Found this on another thread, hopefully will same somebody some time, this worked perfectly on my s6
if I go into Settings / Accessibility / Dexterity I can activate something called the Assistant Menu that adds a handy floating box to the screen. The box contains navigation buttons and shortcuts such as Menu, Back, Screenshot etc.
