I've tried everything what I could find in the web, however nothing helped. What should I do? I'm using CM10, my router's IP is dynamic.
What should I do?
Thanks in advance

Restart router? Or maybe you have another device on fixed IP (I had similar problem with my iPad ) and router tries to assign this IP to your phone?
Dude it hpns when u inter wrong wifi password check showpassowrd n type again

Rename your access point name.. I had same problem before, after change access point name in router, i can connect again..

The blame is from router. Once it happened to me. Try restart your router.
try to make it static..
I have had this problem on different ROMs occasionally.
Deleting the saved connection on your Phone, searching for the Network and typing the password again would solve my problem.
But for me the Router Restart or even WiFi off and back on (on the Router) has helped with this issue.
Tried to make it static, tried to restart my router a couple of times even tried to change the access point name in the router but nothing helped. All other android devices I have work normally..
Do you have 2 wifi networks with the same name?
Had this problem when my wifi network name at home had the same name as my gf's network at her house

EDIT:
Problem solved, updated the router's firmware
I have the same problem unfortunately, I'm on DMX 1.5 with KOB kernel, wifi worked flawlessly until yesterday, now it's stucked. I have tried roouter restarting/firmware updating, phone restarting, retype wifi password, but nothing helped. The other devices at home (android and bb) can connect though.
Try to restart your router. Commonly the blame is for router.

Next time turn off your router, wait few seconds and turn it on. It must work... i had the same problem few times. It is caused when your wi-fi router remmember your phone MAC address, and then, your phone is being dissconected without pressing "turn off wi-fi" on your phone. MAC address is still remmembered in your router and it wouldn't accept to remmember the same parameters from your device..

Well after a day, it does it again, I have tried to turn off the router for about 5-10 seconds, but it's the same. Maybe the problem is, the wifi router is a bit far from my room, and it disconnects wifi at a few spots, don't know how could I solve this, don't wanna reflash everyday.
Одг: Wifi stuck at "Obtaining IP adress"
How far? What is your singnal strenght?
Sent from my LG-P990 using xda app-developers app
The router is around 20-25meters away from my room, I usually get one or two bars (sensitivity set to -32dbm), but as I said it disconnects a few times, when I go to my terrace it always connects/disconnects in every 10 seconds. I'm planning to broadcast wifi off my computer, so it doesn't matter, I just don't know if it plays a role in this "obtaining IP address" problem, but I haven't had it before so it must be a ROM/kernel problem, I've reflashed it again with a different kernel, I'll see if it works, as it started with the using of this one (King of Birds kernel).
I have read a topic (can't find it now) that said it's a DHCP problem, and the device remembers the previously used IP's and wants to use that, and I should delete /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp-list file to get rid of this problem. However, I cannot get into "data" folder with Root Browser (with root permission of course), nor delete the file with Terminal Emulator, so I couldn't try it. Sorry if I wrote anything stupid, as I'm not into most of these technical things. Thanks for your help.

Hi, i used to connect my notebook to internet thanks to router wifi of galaxy tab.
Everything worked well.
Two months ago, i went for overcome 1.4 and I had a great improvements on performances.
Now I found router wifi not working because is countinuosly stucking on looking ip address. I don't know if it happened because I changed ROM or other issues.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Restart Tab, Restart Router. Report back after that please.
Tab restarted. Computer restarted. Router wifi restarted.
Tried but same problem: stucking on ip looking.
I also tried tethering but same issue.
Do I need tp install something (like modem from overcome) ?
Thanks.

Did you restart the router fully?
I went to configuration - wireless - router wifi - and i flagged the router wifi option.
I'm not speaking about my router but the router wifi functionality inside the galaxy tab...
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
As advised restart your router. i.e Unplug router from mains power. Wait 30 seconds and plug it back in.
As suggested. Power cycle all your devices. COLD boot them meaning. SWITCH them off till they are dead router, pc, and GTAB, wait at least 30 seconds. Fire them back on and try again. If you still have issues and you dont connect to Adhoc networks. Consider changing the wpa_supplicant of overcome to one from stock. You can find it in the overcome thread. Search for it.
Thanks for your suggestions but I'm not speaking about the normal router for the computer.
I'm speaking about the router wifi function inside the galaxy tab where you use the galaxy tab as access point wifi for any computer.... this is the router I mean (or access point) that doesn't work.
I think there is something in overcome ROM ... I also tried to setup as open access opint (that means without WPA) but same story.
Do I need to flash something in overcome ?
try a thether apk from marketplace as there are issues
mind you...each country has different galaxy tabs
here in the netherlands there are no restrictions and is all working including the phone and router functions

Hi All,
I have a weird problem with my captivate of not connecting to my home network. Let me start by telling that I have searched the solutions and tried doing everything except full factory reset. I have rebooted the phone, done reset on my router (Wifi was working just fine earlier.. so I think settings was not an issue. But I still did it), I removed the file data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf and let it regenerate it. Captivate displays "Obtaining IP Address" and it just stays there. I also see that IP address is being assigned to captivate in my router
Captivate is rooted stock Froyo
Router security: WEP
form the Wifi list, I found one unsecured network and captivate connects to that router just fine (signals are very week though...). I tried removing the security on my router but it still stuck on "Obtaining IP address".
Can you please please help me?? As I mentioned earlier, It was working just fine and suddenly stopped working two days back.
These all app updates are eating away my limited data of 200M.
Thanks a millian.
What's your router model ?
What channel are you running on ?
Are others routers close to you running on the same channel ?
Have you tried another channel ?
Did you try WPA2 ?
Could be incompatibility with your router. That happened to me before with my old router. It didn't work with some cell phone wifi devices.

Try using the app "FXR." I had the same issue a couple times and this app seemed to fix it. It took a few tries though. I think it might be a router problem. I use the Linksys wrt54g.
You could also try assigning a static IP address to your device on the router side, and then telling your phone to use that address. I've used that in the past to some success.
As a test, have you tried (temporarily) disabling the security on your router to see if it connects?
I have a similar problem since upgrading to the past 3 nightlies. My phone sees and connects to my home network and says it has strong signal, but when I try to access Market or Internet it says there's a network error and I can't get thru. My two computers (one hard wired and one wi-fi) don't seem to have any problem hooking in to the internet, just my SGS1

Does the 'FXR' app set up IP addresses?
The App didn't work for me. I tried that yesterday. I was reading the similar problems on some other site yesterday and I found the following that solved my issue. In case someone like me still struggling with the WiFi problem.
Delete file data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf
Delete file /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list
reboot the device and it will create these files again and you will have to enter your WiFi password again in order to connect.
I am really glad that my WiFi is working back again.
FYI, I'd change the WEP to WPA.

Where do you go to change that setting? I've been all thru the wi-fi settings and advanced settings, but didn't see anything that referred to WEP or WPA.
Just realized we're talking now about the router, not the phone, duh!
Yes, I certainly need to bump up the security settings on my router.

Hello everyone. I had a problem with my samsung captivate and my netgear wnr 2000 wifi hotspot. When I was using 2.1 eclair, it wasn't able to connect to my home wifi. Even now with me running 2.2, I STILL can't. I tried the all share method. It connected but nothing that requires internet worked. Browser, youtube, etc didn't work even when it said it was connected, and the bars of wifi are showing. Anyone know how to fix it? I am really frustrated with it saying "obtaining IP Address" everytime I'm trying to connect to it. I hate using 3G in my own household. Anyone have that same problem? Any solutions?

You also might want to check your router to see if it has a limit to how many connected devices it can have and also if you have a MAC address block on the router.
Using a password? If so try removing the password (temporarily) just to eliminate one thing out of the equation.
Also, does your router have one of those wps buttons that automatically sync with your device? If so have you tried that?
Another thought... I just glanced though your routers user guide and see an option called "Wireless card access setup". If enabled, this blocks all devices not on the "trusted" list. Make sure it's disabled (or add your phones mac address to the list)
Edit: popfan already covered my last point.

I had this exact problem, where it would just say "Obtaining IP Address" for about 30 seconds then say "Error" or something like that but only for my own wifi. I could connect to other wifi's fine.
Anyways, try deleting "bcm_supp.conf" using Root Explorer, reboot. Then go into Settings -> Wireless and network -> Wi-Fi Settings -> Menu key -> Advanced and check Use Static IP
Once you have that, open up command prompt on your computer and type in ipconfig /all. Then manually put in the IP you see on your command prompt to the corresponding slots on your phone.
P.S. For IP address, use the IP your router assigned to your phone. You will need to go into your router settings for that.
After that, try connecting again. Voila!
At least that fixed it for me.
Lastly, I'm not sure if these settings affect other password protected networks. Open networks work fine though.
Thanks for all the ideas! Ill keep you guys posted and ill make sure to try all the options. 'Cuz using 3G in your house is stupid

So, I had my router, wifi and mac filter set up, but then I started to use my medialink n-router for my computer on windows vista. So, I went through the set up and it connected, but it pretty much got rid of the old SSID and put in the new one instead. But my other computer on windows 7 (even after a restart) still detects the old network but can't connect to it. Any ideas? I really don't want to reset the router since it'll take off all the mac addresses in the filter (I think...) I've searched and searched with no avail...
Edit: the SSID is being broadcast, but it still says it can't connect

Hi guys, this morning I received the notification that an update was ready (4.4.2 update, I live in Italy but my One is from Norway). Yep, alot of firmware versions do have issues with WEP encrypted WiFi networks.
WPA is the way to go.

You try this:

Hey there,
I seem to having the same problem. After updating my HTC one to android 4.4.2 I cannot connect to my WIFI anymore. The wifi is connecting and then nothing happens anymore. Can anybody help me with this
Thank you!
1. go to your router setting>> wireless setting>> disable the password required.
2. connect to your home WiFi from your device, see if connected (hope it does)
3. go to your router setting>> wireless setting>> enable password required (WPA/2)
4. connect to your home WiFi from your device with the new password.
It works for me, hope i helped.
To fix wi-fi problem on 4.4.2 android you have to rename Wi-fi Direct device name.
To do that you have to go:
WiFi - then 3 dots - WiFi Direct - 3 dots - Rename Device - HTC One.

IT WORKS FOR ME!! I just had to register here to say thanks, but this really works for me. Was using my room wifi running WEP, after a 300+mb 4.4.2 update to my HTC One, it just kept hopping between scanning and connecting and scanning.....was frustrated with it. I tried with another router, running WEP too and going out the same internet pipeline and it worked, just not my room router.
tried manually inputting mac address at my room router but didn't work, turn off/on multiple times but nope, was wondering if router problem or phone problem.
but then i change the displayed device name from Android_524b to HTC One case sensitive and voilah, it immediately worked, pick up the nice beloved wireless signal on the notice bar, and everything back to normal.....
no hard reset, no router re programming, no tearing the whole house to reprogram every darn piece of equipment. thank you so much
(btw, my router is a super old netgear g connection 2.4ghz adsl modem router. tried the frequency band changing to 2.4ghz but had no effect earlier)
