[Q] WiFi Direct gingerbread

Hey guys,
Does anybody know if WiFi Direct is working on gingerbread?
I can't find a cooked ROM with this capability.
Wifi cast lite
There is a work around for this called WiFi Cast Lite ...just Google it and you can find it ....just like WiFi direct you need this app in both the devices to do the transfer....
The process is to enable hostspot on one device and connect to that hotspot using the other device and you are connected....then u can use the app to transfer the files ....

FC on HTC Explorer everytime
Totinsky, WiFi Direct was officially implemented by Android in ICS, but it sucks huge lemons and it crashes the phone all the time. WiFi Direct was finally stabilized in Jelly Bean (thanks to a certain little company). There is no official support in anything pre-ICS, I'm sorry to say. On another note, if you happen to get JB, we are building a proximity P2P file sharing app that uses WiFi Direct. The app is called Drop, and it is a simple, fast, and secure way to share files with people/devices in proximity. We are going into a limited Private Beta soon, so if you're up for the challenge, (and running Jelly Bean) then sign up at www.get-drop.com. Seats are limited, and we have a rolling enrollment, so check it out.

wht is that how to use it????
well..
it is in the Wireless settings section. i guess you should use L2 IPSec.
briefly: have to set up a VPN server/connection point at home or wherever, and you'll connect to that from anywhere given that there's an open outbound port to the internet where you are currently. than a connection will be built up creating a "tunnel" through which your packets will be transferred to the VPN host where itt could be routed and NAT-ed to the internet unrestricted.
adding IPSec or other methods of encryptions will make your connection secure.
i've never tried it on my phone but since its based on linux it must be the same way as at desktop system.
you should check documents and howtos on the internet and check for apps at Market if the androids builtin is not satisfying!

If you go to Network and Sharing Center select your internet conection, properties, sharing, allow other network users..., and then choose your wifi connection. I think that should work

HTC One No VPN Data issues

My HTC One Remix has been having issues the past several hours.
My internet connection (mobile data) seems to think I'm running through a VPN connection, although no VPN apps or settings are set up.
I do have a couple miscellaneous network admin and pentesting tools on my phone, but nothing that should be disrupting my connection like this. The only two VPN apps I have have on/off switches, both marked to off, and both apps are greenified in my system.
This issue only occurs when connected to mobile data, and it only seems to effect my internet browser (firefox). Other apps were working okay, such as my email and dropbox accounts.
Firefox has no internal settings to alter VPN connections, and I've made no changes to the app.
The only possibility I could think was causing it was SSHTunnel being installed without Root access being active (my phone is rooted, but I turn it on and off.)
I uninstalled SSHTunnel and the problem persisted.
Android version is 4.4.2 Kitkat, model is a Verizon HTC One Remix, or HTC One Mini 2. Not sure what other specs might be needed.
Here is a list of pentesting and network admin apps I currently have installed that could be causing the issue;
