build.prop

Can somebody be so kind and upload stock buid.prop for Bell AHD?
Wanna see differences between the AT&T and Bell setup - looking for way to enable network type switch in phone info

Well, I tried replacing build.prop in hope that will enable band switch but it did not
I would really like to have option enabled in settings or trough phone info.
In phone info i can switch between LTE/GSM/WCDMA and LTE/CDMA/EvDO/GSM/WCDMA.
Any other choice reverts back to LTE/GSM/WCDMA. I have done EB40 battery mod and I am not worried about battery life as I can pull out 2.5 days on medium usage but 70% of my day I do not need LTE so I was hoping to extend battery life even more by switching to EDGE

I dont know what ATT did...
I followed instructions from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386383 and I got network switch enabled in settings but when I select GSM only setting does not stick...Reverts back to LTE.
I tried adding ATT 3g APN (wap.cingular) but it wont connect to the data network at all???
Really stuck now.
Generaly I always used 2g data connection when I am at work as I still can get my emails and mms and do some basic browsing and internet radio streaming. Then if I stream videos or download apps or upload large amount of pics I would switch to 3g (LTE in this case)
I wonder does it have anything to do with account provisoning for LTE???
I really would like to have that option enabled and working. I know ATT is in the process of phasing out 2G data on account of LTE but as long as it is available I would like to use it...

After completing the steps in that post and deleting the backups change the operator to maritime. Successfully dropped down to 2G /EDGE. Thanks for this thread. Was hoping someone would post a bit of information on it. Here's some screenshots.

Great - I did it too, bad thing it does not stick after reboot - reverts to auto select network but its better than before
I wonder what the heck is Maritime in network selection...
Anyhow will look more into keeping manual network selection after reboot.

Would have never have guessed to search for networks and select Maritime. Thanks for the tips guys. I can now force 2g at work.

Maritime is another AT&T network. It was actually the default on my Atrix 4G. Sadly, the Atrix HD doesn't display the code for each maritime network. Shouldn't be to hard to switch the default to it if we knew which code it was. Setting the default to Maritime wouldn't help considering there's 3.

Very interesting. If set to 3G only on Maritime it displays the 4G without LTE. Through Phone Info, it shows that I'm connected through HSPA as well. Selecting Automatic sticks with HSPA unless I get better LTE service. Seems like 3G is a good balance between speed and battery life.

Is there any proof that disabling LTE saves battery life? In older phones, disabling 3G would save battery life because there were separate chip-sets for 2G and 3G services. That isn't the case now, a single chipset handles all signaling. Thus, there are no chips that are powered down when 4G is disabled. I would expect battery savings to be minimal.
Additionally, because of the increase efficiency of the LTE network (combined with less network loading), your phone will have an open data connection for a much shorter time, when transmitting data.

I've got my AHD on the AT&T network using a StraightTalk AT&T sim. $45.00 unlimited everything. With the APN that straight talk uses, it never searches for LTE. Just on 4g all day long, with no LTE searching at all.

Well, I'm going on 4 hours of screen on time, 13 hours of listening to music, etc and still holding 62%. That's from jumping between 2G and 3G on an as needed basis.

Seems the jellybean leak comes with this already done? Able to switch to just about everything. Getting HSPAP instead of HASPS a well.

How to disable HSPA / HSDPA for better battery life

Hi,
I was wondering if we can turn off hsdpa to save battery life, i used to have a Captivate and we used this secret menú to disable hsdpa, leaving only the 3G which consume less battery than Hdspa and is faster than 2G, but i can not find this menú on my nexus 4, someone knows how to do it?

Hi people.
One way to get longer battery life is to disable HSPA and just use 3G. 3G (UMTS) is not as slow as EDGE/GPRS but doesn't use as much power as HSPA.
Here's a quick comparison of *typical* download speeds:
GPRS: 48 kbit/s, EDGE: 150-200 kbit/s, 3G: 384 kbit/s, HSDPA: 1000 kbit/s
After some searching, I've found a method that actually works for our Galaxy S:
Go to the phone dialer pad and enter this code: *#301279#
Click [2] CHANGE HSPA REVISION
Click [1] RELEASE 99 (HSPA OFF)
Then you should see something like:
CHANGE_R99
HSDPA OFF, HSUPA OFF
Done!
Press the BACK button to exit, or press MENU button then END.
The setting should take effect shortly after you exit the menu. To be sure that the setting take effect, toggle Flight/Airplane mode.
You could store that number in your phone book or speed dial for a quick way to toggle HSPA.
The setting STAYS ACROSS REBOOTS!
If you want to enable HSPA again just go back to the same menu and choose [3] RELEASE 6 (HSDPA/HSUPA).
Just tested it with the XXJPP radio and it really works.
Longer battery life at last!

Quick way is Settings-More-Mobile Networks- Use Only 2g.
Better way is to install a toggle control app that let's you do it in one touch.

Thx, But 2G Its too slow, with this method the Hsdpa is off but the 3G still working so Its faster, but Looks like lg doesnt have this option or i can not find it.... Jet

Yeah the main way is to check "use 2g only" which would give you edge only and may save battery but yes it is very slow.
There is also a toggle 2g app which makes it more convenient, or you can use tasker.
Based on what I've read on the forums I'm pretty sure HSPA is 3g. In which case theres no in between.. if you go through the dialer menu you can choose wcdma/gsm which is 3g/2g. We're used to thinking hspa is 4g but its actually 3g since true 4g is actually LTE. Confusing, I know.

This constantly drained my battery and caused dropped calls because it was switching towers when doing this. I ended up having to place a microcell in my home to alleviate this, since there was no way to do it thru the device. I'm not sure how my N4 would act today because I still use that microcell.

The OP was asking how to turn off HSPA. In the context of this phone, that's 3G. The next step down is Edge.

HSDPA has no more battery drain than 3G...

3G is not HSDPA, is UMTS. HSDPA is 3G+.

True that. Considering this is considered a developers phone that is unlocked and unbranded, I'm a bit surprised at the limited band selection.

It's a 5 band GSM phone, what more would you want? Other than LTE, obviously, we've done THAT discussion to death

I was referring to the ability to select the bands. When I go into the hidden test menu and try to select a radio band, I get a message that states "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped". And yes I know this was done intentionally to hide the LTE band. My point was that I consider that somewhat odd. That is all. With previous phones I found the ability to switch bands useful for signal tests in my area, even though I couldn't always make them stick.

THANK YOU. I can finally enjoy fast (Fast enough for my needs) internet without the blackhole drain of HSPA+. 3g, UMTS, does not drain as much as HSPA+.

It's probably an NV Item in the Qualcomm radio. You would just need to find what value it needs, put the N4 into "modem" mode, and use NV Item editor or similar to change the value.

[Q] Would like to set GSM,LTE

I noticed at my work my Edge is stronger then my LTE but LTE works better and of course faster then Edge. I am asking if anyone knows how to force only GSM for calls and LTE for data. I go through the options and notice many settings but LTE is always "LTE AUTO" I also use the hidden menu *#*#4636#*#* and set LTE only or CDMA, LTE Unfortunately I am on Rogers and CDMA does not allow my calls to go through and LTE only is exactly that only LTE. Both those options work great but of course drop sporadically which I can live with except the no phone part. What is the point of having a phone if you have no phone reception working on your phone.....
So my question is simple, is there a way to have only GSM and LTE set up or at least GSM and 3G/4G but with out the E network which ever that is.

You could force LTE only, but then when the reception drops off, you'll have zero cell service.
It would be nice if there were more options offered for preferred networks. I leave mine on WCDMA preferred, and just do without LTE until I want/need it.

T Mobile Setup/Down Speeds

So i took out the Sim from the Iphone 6 im returning and popped it into this bad boy. Curious as to how you guys are setting up the phone so you get the correct LTE speeds. Im barely getting 9down whereas my gf's galaxy in the same room is getting 20+ down. wonder if i did anything wrong

It depends on location. I've seen consistent 50+ down and 20+ up with T-Mobile and default APN.

Nah something is def wrong. Phone is barely usable without wifi. What APN settings are you guys using for tmo?

fast.t-mobile.com it should also give you the settings automatically if you just press the "Internet settings" button.

Thats what i been running. Could it have something to do with the sim? Was i supposed to get a sim for an unlocked phone? Urrgh so frustrating

That's pretty slow, your gf has the tmo also? Pop her sim in your phone and compare. The sim shouldn't matter though.

shes got a galaxy s4 so that wont work. however i still got the iphone 6 around. when i put the sim in that phone i get regular LTE speeds.

Oh, I just noticed in your speedtest result you're on H, not LTE. Under "preferred network mode" do you have "4G (preferred)" enabled? If you're in a border coverage area it could be that your phone is dropping you down to HSPA+ instead of staying on LTE.
For a test, go to the dialer and do *#*#4636#*#* then go to Phone Info and change it to LTE Only and test it to see if it stays on LTE and what kind of speeds you get, by default it's set to "LTE/GSM auto PRL" so if the LTE connection isn't strong enough it's going to drop you down to H+.

These Are my options under preffered:
wcdma only, gsm only, wcdma (preffered)/gsm and 4g(preffered)/wcdma/gsm. i dont see lte in the list
per your test, when I switch to LTE only in phone options the I lose all bars and signal totally craps out.

So when you switched to LTE Only, after a second or 2 you didn't get a 4G symbol above the signal bar? Do you ever see 4G? Mine switches to 4G within about 1 second of switching to LTE Only.

I got 2.93 maybe which one is 105??

I was worried during my first day of owning the phone because my Z1c showed LTE above the bars and now this Z3c shows 4G. I was worried that 4G != LTE.

Im having this issue. *#*#4636#*#* when i dial this code it let me access to select what type of network i want. So i want to force to use LTE Only, but the signal get lost, not signal anymore. But when i change it to lte/gsm its works again. I know i have lte in the area but i cant get it in that way. Can anyone ccan try that and reports back if let u chanche the network? Thanks.

i change my networks all the time, without issue. if i put lte only, i get lte only. but cant make phone calls on it, so i use lte/gsm. if you dont have an lte signal, it will not connect to lte only.

no, im on 5.0.2, but that wont make any difference.

I have an issue where my Nexus 6 will boot with LTE, but once it looses from getting/making a call it cannot regain it.

T-Mobile. Let the device sit overnight and it got LTE back. So it seems either the LTE radio in this device is terrible compared to my Note 3, or it just won't attempt to get back onto LTE all that often. Or my Devices LTE radio is messed up.

Mine would stay on H+ after a call for a long time. I sometimes "force" it to connect to LTE by toggling cellular data and off in settings. Or a reboot.
Have tried the *#*#4636#*#* menu to change to "LTE only", but won't even connect to LTE in this case.
This feels like a software issue. Clearly it's not a network or hardware issue, since it can connect to LTE.

if its not connecting to lte when you set it to lte only, then you either dont have lte around when you set it or its an extremely weak signal.

Unfortunately, it depends a lot on where you are. The office building that I am in is very bad for LTE, signal at my desk is -100dbm, if I go outside it switches up to around -60 to -70dbm. If I choose 3G as the preferred network, sitting in exactly the same location the signal goes to -75dbm 19 au. If I am at my apartment, the LTE signal is much stronger there. This of course effects the battery life also. I am not sure if there is a way to default which LTE band is used since I think Telus only uses band 4 for LTE but I am not familiar with how the phone determines which band to use or if it keeps scanning all of them.

No, where I was testing it, LTE was strong. I also had a Nexus 5 right beside it, and it had no problem acquiring a full signal.
With the Nexus 6, after a reboot or the data toggle, it acquired LTE, again almost full signal.

So I decided to just leave it alone and use it as normal without worrying about LTE or H+. I did not toggle data or reboot, just leave it as is. I just observe. After a few days, it seems better in that it will be connect to LTE a short while after a call, and behaves like how I expected it to like on the Nexus 5.
Of course, immediately after a call, it will stay on H+. If I really wanted LTE right then, I just toggle the data on/off from settings (not by setting to "LTE only" in *#*#4636#*#* menu).
