i've upgraded my phone, so i'm using my captivate for games and music. i'm looking for a ROM that supports usb audio out so i can use an external dac, if there is one available. my phone is stock rooted, but i don't mind flashing a ROM. if there's a way to exclude the radio. a ROM without a radio or a way to remove it would work as well.
thanks!

Leave your phone in airplane mode if you don't wanna worry about the radio (modem).
I believe stock ROM with Google music would work for usb audio out. I haven't used it in a while but it worked on my car stereo. Also, keep in mind that not every sound system will recognize your phone with USB in, especially the older ones.

If I receive a call or a text message while playing music through the audio output, the next time I connect my headphones, the audio output no longer works. Nothing happens. Music continues to play through the speaker.
Reflashing the Hard SPL or reinstalling the OS restores the function until I get a text or a call while playing music. Then the same thing happens all over again. I'm using the newest AT&T Rom release from the HTC website (3.57). I was using cmonex's patched 3.56 Hard SPL and now I'm trying 3.29.
Same thing with 3.29
Same problem as before.
and which radio? if you are using the stock ATT ROM, it will have come with a radio but it might be worth a shot swapping the radio with another version...

Agreed. First thought is radio. Does your camera still function normally even after the audio has failed?
Thanks guys.
I thought it was a hardware problem and wasted a lot of time bending the pins in the USB port. I'm lucky I didn't break something.
I flashed the eos 4.888 Fire rom and one of the radios the developer recommends. Everything works fine. This is the first rom I've tried that works as well and as fast on my Tilt as the oem rom.
Here is the link to the rom.

All of the 2.2 based ROMs don't have the headset functionality I'm looking for, and it appears it's a 2.2 issue.
Is anyone still working on 2.1 based ROM's?
Whether it's still under development or not, where can I find a couple of good simple bloatware free 2.1 based ROMs?
I tried searching the development forum, but there's so much about current ROMs (2.2 based) that I can't filter through them and find a 2.1 based ROM.
Thanks, alabamaroping
what headset functionality do you think is broken on all 2.2 roms? those issues have all been resolved unless you have some random new one
I'm looking to have the call output routed through a standard headset connection, NOT the headset that came with the phone that supports mic, and stereo audio out.
A standard headphone connection only has the audio out, no mic. (as I'm sure you know). I'll be listening to music in my truck, and a call will come in and i'll have to unjack the 3.5mm jack and grab the phone instead of the call just routing through the speakers.
I've tried the following: (Cognition 2.3b7, AXURA 2.4, eSPyeL's ROM Beta3.4.1). None of them work.

AS far as I know no one is still working on 2.1 roms anymore. To tell the truth from all the roms I have have seen the "issue" with the headset without a mic may not be a clitch. I will have to ask a few people that got the 2.2 official update to make sure but I think it was changed on purpose by google. (could be wrong though, will have to wait till I talk to some people)
The car dock allows call output to standard headphones, just got mine yesterday and it works. But, you know it's against the law almost everywhere to wear headphones and drive right?
Captivate Froyo / Perception Build 9 - Cog Kernel 4

no headphones
Actually, I don't drive with headphones. I have a 3.5mm jack run into my truck stereo system. It's the same as a headphone jack, so I just use that as an example.
I've been using headphones to test functionality when sitting in my office, and the jack is the same, so I've been using the two interchangeably.
However, you are correct: it's unsafe to drive with headphones, but I see the iPeople doing it with their iPhones & iPods all the time.
The only 2.1 ROM out there still that should be available is Cognition. Lord knows though I haven't tried to download it... buyer beware.
Might just be easier to keep your "stock" 2.1 - Root it and get an application like Titanium Backup that will uninstall the bloat on your phone.
And.. I thought the issue for 2.2 custom ROMS were due to the use of i9000 modems/kernels? Or was that only Bluetooth?

Also, does the bluetooth issue still exist on the never versions? I haven't used my bluetooth earpiece in along time so I haven't bothered to try on these newer roms.
Big fan of ya'll for a long time... Just decided to sign up and ask a question:
I installed CM7 for the first time, mainly because I wanted FM Radio on my N1. I'm disappointed to find out that the sound comes out from only one channel (right side, mono only, no matter what the setting).
I researched heavily but couldn't find a similar post. Am I the only one experiencing the FM Radio sound coming out of only one earphone?
BTW, all other features are working perfectly...
My radio is 5.08
hboot is fully updated
I'm using one of the CM7 nightly after the RC1
Thanks!

I don't know whether it provides stereo or not as I don't listen to music at all when I turn on radio. But I do have sound from both sides.

Thanks for your feedback... Definitely, the issue is that I'm getting sound out of one side (right earphone) only... I tried multiple headphones, including the original N1 headset... All the same, sound comes out of one side...
Not sure what the issue is. As I mentioned, I researched a lot and no one seems to have this problem... Everything else on the phone runs perfectly.
bump
Still, after format and full wipe, re-installed CM7 RC2, and FM Radio still comes out of one (right) earphone.
Working great here. Audio is coming out in stereo. If you click menu in the Radio app, then settings, under audio output mode there is a setting for stereo or mono.

I've tried everything... Nothing seems to work, sound still comes out of right earphone only...
I'm still baffled as everything else on the phone works perfectly... I've wiped (data, dalvik) and formatted partitions, fresh installed the ROM... Still the same issue... It must then be a hardware issue... My radio is 5.08... Does that make a difference??
Just want to be sure, did you test playing music through the normal music player? And both sides work through that?

oh yes, definitely! Sound from music player is perfect, can't ask for better... I even tried different sets of earphones, including the stock N1 earpieces... As I said, everything on the phone is working perfectly except for the FM Radio... I don't even get the wonks everyone is complaining about.
I know this is a hopeless case as I seem to be the only one with this problem...
Did another full wipe (system + dalvik), plus formatted the partitions... installed CM7 rc3, fresh and clean... Still, I can only hear the FM Radio sound coming out of the right earphone...
Oh well, I'm figuring it must be a driver/hardware issue... Since it's basically the bluetooth unit transmitting the sound, maybe my N1's BT is purely mono (or somehow stuck on mono (?))...
If you were going to use a vivid purely for music in a car, airplane mode, no SIM card, etc, what rom would you choose and why?
Basically, imagine you have a vivid to turn into an android answer to the iPod touch.

ROM for audio
I don't know how much the ROM would actually matter. I am on stock ICS, using Viper4Android and the sound is really good.
I would likely use stock rom, root to either underclock or overclock (depending if I plan to use it mobile or just keep it stationary forever), grab a 3 female-1micro usb (if it even works on this phone) and then use one to charge, one to use a usb/bluetooth game controller/remote, and the last for a usb-hdmi out.
I just did this last weekend.
I unlocked the bootloader, a rooted, then after installing titanium backup i deleted all att and phone, sms apk's.
There is still a few things i need to work on but it is working just fine as an MP3 player for my daughter
Are you connecting to the car or other device? I ask, since UMS tends to be a problem on CM 10.1 and CM 10.2. 3.5mm should be fine.
Hi!
I have a USB-Slot in my car, over which the car stereo can play the music from an usb-device. Since the newer androids doesnt seem to use the "old" usb mass storage protocol but mtp, the car stereo doesnt work with my HTC One. I've tried with ARHD, but it doesnt work.
A few hours ago, I flashed a Google Play Edition Rom for a short try, and surprisingly, it worked.
So why doesn't it work with Sense-Rom but with GPE? Is it somehow possible to get it to work on a Sense-Rom?
My ONE is rooted, unlocked and S-OFF.
Can anybody help me?
There has to be differences between Google Play Edition and Sense Roms with USB!?

Oh, nice! I'm don't really know how it worked, but can you link me to your head unit? I have a Pioneer DEH-3250UB (http://www.pioneer-pan.com/en/products/deh3250ub-266.html), a 2150UBG, as well as the stock head unit in the Honda City i-vtec, and couldn't get it to work so far.. I'll try with gpe later on..

I couldn't get it to work either with Sense-Rom. Just GPE worked.
My car radio is called RNS310 ist from Volkswagen. VW offers a USB-Slot called Media-In where you can plug your phone into USB to control music via the Radio.
I flashed a few kernels but no success
