[Q] Traces of my brand on stock firmware? - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just finished flashing my phone with the stock brazilian firmware. However, i was really surprised when i started my phone and i saw the wallpaper of my brand. All the bloatware was gone, but some traces, like the browser home page, remained. How is this possible?

Yep. But i already found out what happened. My SD card had some images and text files of the brand. Simple formating, and everything is gone.

[Q] Phone is wigging out, need techsperts help.

Hi guys,
I have been searching the forums for 2 weeks now trying to fix this myself, but I have put my pride in my pocket and am asking for help.
Backstory: Rooted phone, flashed CWM, used tons of custom froyo ROM's (doc roms mainly) and most recently Darky's 9.3 (awesome).
But then i decided I wanted Gingerbread (this is where the trouble began). Gingerbread worked just fine, but as there is no custom roms, I flashed back to 2.2 (obviosly screwed something up), because since then I have been plagued with process com.whatever.android.somethingelse has stopped unexpectedly. please try again.
please don't ask which force close message I am getting, lets just say, I am pretty sure I am getting them all!
I have flashed stock 2.1, custom 2.1, stock 2.2, custom 2.2's, I even went back to gingerbread a few times trying to fix this ***** of a problem. I tried re partitioning just the .pit file and then the other 3 files seporatly. NOTHING WORKS.
So, I am calling out to all you guys and girls who are heaps smarter than me to please help. the phone functions, turns on, make or receive calls and texts (not mms), emails work sometimes, but if I turn the phone off and on all the settings are wiped and I need to reload all the user details.
Oh, I should also add another major issue, I cannot use the internal memory for anything, I cannot take pictures unless I select the external SD card, I cannot install apps from market or .apk. I cannot even move data to it when its mounted on the pc.
I am completely lost. please help me.
And thanks in advance.
I
C'mon guys, I know there is a lot to read, but please, can no-body help me?
Sounds like it might be a dead internal sd card. You said you tried a re-partition with 3 file firmware? That should fix pretty much anything. I think your only option is to return to samsung at this point.

Thanks for the response.
is it possible to fix myself?
As Samsung will not cover it, even if I flash the stock Telstra ROM, it will still show that it has been rooted?
In doing your research, I'm sure you've heard of the internal SD problems that plague the i9000, are you by chance with Bell Mobility? This line concerns me..
"Oh, I should also add another major issue, I cannot use the internal memory for anything"
When I experienced multiple FCs (force closes) and incompatible system UID's, I tried flashing every kind of ROM there was with every kind of PIT file as well to no avail. However, one in particular worked for me and others. It is usually referred to as a full ROM. It contains the .csc and .sbl in it as well as the usual ROM contents.
The ROM I used is called FULL-i9000UGJH2.tar. Note, flashing this ROM with a pit file (be it 512, 513, or 803) wouldn't help me at all. What fixed the problem was flashing ONLY the ROM file in ODIN. Unfortunately, I can't find the thread where I found this ROM. I suggest searching around for it, if you can't find it PM me, and I will up it somewhere for you.
I'm not sure if this will help with your specific case, but its worth a shot. Also, wherever applicable, do a factory reset, clear your cache, and a full wipe install.
Good luck.
[edit]
Do a complete wipe and install with a stock 2.2 or 2.1 ROM in ODIN, there will be no evidence of a root.

Thanks for this dude, I will start my search for that rom.
I do a factory reset, wipe cache and data every time, however after doing all of that and flashing a new rom, it still has my google account details in the phone?? this is wierd, as I factory reset from recovery mode AND wipe all data from within the phone? Any suggestions?
Edit: and no, its is an Australian Telstra i9000

I am using odin, this is the wierd part. I have tried repartitioning, not repartitioning, I have tried 512.pt 803.pit, full wipe and reset from both in the phones settings and recovery mode. reboot it, go through settup wizzard (which eventually force closes requiring me to reboot), go into accounts and there is my google account still set up???
Edit: also, I cannot find a file called FULL-i9000UGJH2.tar, I am downloading i9000UGJH2.tar as we speak, but i doubt it is the one you were reffering to, if you are able to point in in the right direction, that would be ace.
Cheers

If you're entering your gmail address in during the setup wizard, our google account will be linked. If you're not setting anything up and it is remembering your info, then something is definitely fishy.
I would flash back to a stock rom, and see what Samsung or your provider can do for you. In all honesty, the only thing I would be able to suggest is flashing and wiping
[edit]
When you download that ROM, open it up (using a program like WinRAR). The point of a full rom is that it contains
-cache.rfs
-dbdata.rfc
-factoryfs.rfs
-modem.bin
-param.lfs
-sbl.bin
-zimage
I'm unsure of any incompatibilities between the Canadian and Australian versions, but I will upload my copy for you to try.

I'm not entering any info during the setup wizard?
could it be something to do with the file system gingerbread uses? these issues only started when I went back from gingerbread to froyo? (and before you ask, I have tried going back to gingerbread with no solution)
I may have to bite the bullet and shoot it back to Samsung... or just buy another one! would love to try FULL-i9000UGJH2.tar if you could remember where you got it?
Thanks again for your help.

I seem to have remembered it being in this thread, which is why i had it on bookmark, but I'm not sure if the link has been removed or if i had been mistaken since I can no longer find it. I'm uploading for you to Rapidshare, where you can download as a free user...~30 mins . Again, I'm not sure if there are modem incompatibilities or not since this I am in Canada, and you are in Australia.

The way you're referring to accessing this internal SD....are you flashing your ROMs to an external microsd card?

Hey mate, no go, i got some functionality back on the phone, but still force closes and I cannot save anything to SD (or install apps).
another email account (an exchange server account) that was previously deleted has appeared back set up and working (I have not been able to set this up for a week), it appeared on its own which leads me to think there is a hidden partition on my internal sd, hence I cannot access it. must be something to do with Gingerbread.
Thanks for all your help though.

Hi mate,
I have tried that several times, i think there is a hidden partition thanks to Gingerbread.
I would be sure that your internal sd card is screwed but since everything worked fine before gingerbread something else has probably happened. Also your data wont delete and that seems to be the source of the problem. Try to install the lagfix from k13d and see if it had any results. This should reformat all partitions on the internal sd.

[Q] Help - keep digging myself deeper and deeper

Hi everyone,
I wanted to flash CSC with Odin to my phone which is running Serendipity VII, and as advertised, it wiped all the apps. I thought I backed everything up using Clockworkmod, but a restore brings back nothing. Couple of questions...
1) did I screw up and does this mean apps do NOT get recovered with CWM?
2) any way to get my apps back at this point?
3) /system/csc still does not exist, and *#1234# still shows "CSC: Unknown". how do i fix it, now that the phone's messed up anyway?
4) *#1234# shows PDA as I9000XXJVO, PHONE as I9000XXJVS and CSC: Unknown. Is it a problem that they're all different?
5) my IMEI has a /01 at the end. It wasn't like this before - it was 1234567890, now it's 1234567890/01. It does match what's on the box, though (well, the part before the /01).
6) the apps appear to be on the SD card, and when i go to "Applications", i can see them listed (i.e. com.rovio.angrybirds) - but when clicked, only the Uninstall button is active. how can i make it run?
I keep flashing and restoring various things, but this will probably not end well, so I'd better stop and wait for some help, heh.
Thanks very much...
-pN
I'd recommend that you would just flash stock rom and then flash Serendipity or rom what you like. That would probably fix most of problems.
And I think you can get your apps&data restored individually with this app:

Thanks for the reply. Another weirdness... I don't have a Marketplace icon, heh. Is this something that can be installed, or should I really scrap everything and restart?

Well, I'm not sure about roaming, but CSC should have nothing to do with other countries SIM card.

System partition not booting up?

I'll try to keep this one explained simple
- Was running have boot loader unlocked and am rooted, was trickdroid
- Decided to try what else was out there for ROMS, switched to Renovate rom, was a downgrade from trickdroid in my eyes
- Decided to switch to one more rom before making the jump back to trickdroid, accidentally wiped internal storage data along with everything else
- After wasting most of my day messing with this crap, I finally got everything back to somewhat operational again
- My internal memory and Cache at one point were unmountable and read 0MB, had to do a factory reset via boot loader then a full wipe using TWRP
- Finally have trickdroid installed and its semi operational, aside from the fact that when I load it, it instantly has no service, no internet, nothing. It sends me to the launcher portion and there are no apps on there either. Shortly after it starts it will restart the device.
-After doing several restarts into recovery I have confirmed that the system partition consistently unchecks itself and I have already attempted fixing permissions several times and doing a system wipe and full ROM install again.. same issue to no avail.
- Last night I actually managed to pull up icons and programs, somehow, but again there was no system being loaded up
A little help please? I am in a state of a soft brick at this point, which is not bad considering I had a SUPER HARD brick earlier.
Help me, please. I just want to get this phone back to a functioning state!

A hard brick is unrecoverable. It means your phone is literally as responsive as a brick. I would say your phone is pretty functional if the actual OS loads.
Anyway, have you tried RUU? That usually brings everything back to normal. Be sure to use the correct one, and note that you will lose EVERYTHING. Even root.
EDIT: Try this.

So I did try using this link and downloaded the full zip file and unzipped as per instructions of QBKing77 off of youtube, then clicked setup.exe within the folder which was unzipped, but after it ran through its setup process, nothing else popped up? I tried doing it as well through hasoons all in one toolkit but while that worked, it didn't work as expected and it just stayed at the black htc screen. I'm lost at the moment.

Hello from my finally unbricked one! Turns out I was having issues with the computer itself launching installshield so it wouldn't keep the factory RUU running. I did it from a different computer and it did it in stride.. I'm so happy to have this thing back. So on a sidenote I had to rwlock bootloader and then I had to reload the factory RUU.

Is there a way to do a clean install on a stock HTC one?

I've been looking for a way to do a clean reinstall of the os like I can with Odin on the galaxy phones and on iTunes on the iPhone but there seems to be no way to do this for the one.
My phone's untouched and I'm not planning on rooting it or nothing, not interested anymore but I do like to do a clean reinstall every so and so. Especially after updating.

I see now. I thought that ruu stuff was for rooted phones but I believe it's the official updater from HTC. ROM update utility is what it stands for. Saw the video and it is a stock restoring process. Thanks for the responses guys, will restore my phone during the weekend. Hopefully we'll have 4.2.2 by then!

There's nothing from your use-case that a standard factory reset (Settings -> Storage) shouldn't do, though, so do be somewhat wary.

Thing is, I believe some apps may be corrupted when doing incremental updates, or some data may be corrupted or give problems as well. So, a full system restore eliminates this problem. I still get force closes on some stock apps and the browser after a factory reset.
I've considered flashing a custom rom, but I'm just not into tinkling with my devices anymore.

[Q] Phone wiped after Unroot

Hi everbody, I have a rooted phone which I wanted to unroot to be able to install the 5.1.1 update. But when I unrooted the phone without even doing a factory reset or cleaning the cache or all of those wiping the phone procedures, the phone got totally wiped and also the memory got completely wiped with all folders and whatever gone. Pictures are backed up to Google Drive and numbers are in Google Contacts but there are some folders and backed up apps that I wanted to have.
Is there any way this can be restored? I'm guessing there is not, but I still wanted to put the question out there if anybody knows a way?

1) Not sure why your device got wiped...
2) Only way to restore is if you had a backup stored off line...
3) There is no reason to "unroot" if you intend to fastboot flash the factory image.
4) Using the "unroot" feature is NOT sufficient if you want to flash the OTA update. It still leaves a few modified files around, and the updater script will not install the OTA. You will need to fastboot flash the factory system.img. If you are going to do that, then just fastboot flash 5.1.1 and be done with it.

Op what "method" or steps did you take to "un-root"?
Manually, or some toolkit? Did you re-lock your bootloader, or check or forget to un-check some sort of reset my phone to factory settings setting?
