I haven't got my Nexus 4 yet but I saw mixed comments made here and there that enabling LTE will result in GPS unable to lock at all.
What is your experience? Google Map still works with accurate location reporting? Google Now working or not?
What did you set the LTE to? LTE/GSM/CDMA? or LTE only? etc
Maybe indicate which provider you are with, looks like it is also a factor to consider.
Post your results, comment and lets tabulate the information.
GPS locking in less than 10 seconds on average.
Google Maps and Google Now work as expected.
Network type set to LTE/GSM.

I just went to a Bell store and picked up an LTE sim for $5. After I received the phone I went to mybell.ca and transferred the service to the new sim - took less than 5 mins.
GPS works perfectly fine. It is the cell tower location that doesn't work!
Go into your settings and disable GPS and Wifi and try going to Maps and you shouldn't get a location.
This has been discussed greatly in the LTE thread.
- *#*#INFO#*#* Phone Settings shows an Unknown under location and no neighbouring CID
- Since there is no location, Google Now fails to load properly
- HSPA establishes all locations as it should. Check *#*#INFO#*#* again

What is the real problem for Google Now? cant it get the location from GPS directly?
That's that I think. If you open Maps with GPS on, then get a lock in. The location will save into your cache or whatever. So if you open Google Now right after it will grab your location.

Wouldnt you need to add the APN for Bell too? I do know for a fact that Bell's HSPA and LTE share the same APN, but is the APN built into the stock ROM already?

Quick question. I'm on Bell too. I have an LTE SIM. I called and had my account upgraded to LTE... but I'm getting no love. When I change it to LTE/GSM, I get signal bars but no data connection.
I have not changed the APN.
Ideas?

I said in my post that I have an LTE SIM.
On the topic of issues with LTE on the Nexus 4 and Bell. Does anyone have an issue where you would have no radio after a reboot? And then it works after another one.
This seems to happen after I enabled LTE/GSM/CDMA.

Happened once for me. I am on CM10.1, i have a button on my notification for enabling LTE, remainder of the time i stay on HSPA
I'm on Fido with rooted stock rom and haven't encountered any issues, then again, I haven't really done any extensive testing, I'll keep an eye on the GPS lock over the next few days and see if I get anything out of the ordinary.
so no one else is having issues with the gps when they are on LTE?
i'm on rogers in toronto... when i set preferred network to any of the LTE network settings my gps fails, gps works fine when its set to the default WCDMA preferred.
google now and any apps using gps locations fail for me on the LTE network... anyone have an idea on how to fix this?
I added these lines to build.prop in the flashable zip file's build.prop's end:
Code:
telephony.lteOnGsmDevice=1
ro.telephony.default_network=9
ro.ril.def.preferred.network=9
Factory reset the phone, and then flash the zip and gapps. in the Settings -> System -> Notification drawer -> Widget buttons
you can find LTE button there.
Once LTE is toggled, it hops on to LTE after a delay, it stays on HSPA+ first for about good 15-30 seconds before it shows full 4G and LTE in the settings.
Google Now works most of the time like this, but if you stay on LTE for too long, the location cache gets reset, Google Now wont get location until you go back to HSPA+

Just wondering how do you know it was connected to LTE. Did the icon change?
Did you get your data back when it was switched back to HSDPA+?

Same here, I've been googling since this motning. New icon (4G LTE) showed in the corner and internet is gone. Tried fiddling with "LTE Setting"/"LTE Unlimited"/"LTE Discovery" apps from Appstore - no change. Weird... I think lots of people should be having that problem by now...
youll probably have to enter new APN settings. ask someone from the Tmo SGS3 or Note 2 forum for their LTE connected APN settings
Or look in the market for apn tweaker to get the settings.

OK. Confirmed. For the 4G LTE to work you need to have in the APN settings:
fast.t-mobile.com (WITH the dash)
FULL internet is working now, did not notice much of a change of speed in comparison to 4G I had before.
Running on rooted 4.1.1 MB886 (AT&T Atrix HD, unlocked)
Mobile network type LTE:13
Sorry, I had been out all day. I tried all the APN settings they gave me and what the associate over the phone told me about, none worked. One of them said to go to a t-mobile store and ask for a "LTE" sim card. I did and now it's all working.

Hi,
I can confirm pjaca's method works.
Just change APN to "fast.t-mobile.com" nothing else.
I live in San Jose and it is one of the cities to get LTE but not where I live.
I was on a hunt for LTE this afternoon and not all area in San Jose have LTE.
If your phone is getting LTE signal you should see "4G LTE" logo next to your signal bars.

Couple questions -
I just got my Atrix HD and I'm in an area that doesn't have LTE currently. I get awesome HSPA service though. Any advantage/disadvantage of changing my APN?
Also, the APN setting is grayed out, do I need to make a new entry or something?
Thanks!
I have tmobile on my unlocked ahd..I tried three apn settings epc.tombile.com, fast.t-mobile.com and good old apn internet2.voicestream.com....they all show different reading in speedtest.net download speed range 1mb-8mb and upload speed range 768kb-2.1mb....as soon as I switch I get the highest range then it dies off....all apn behave all the same way..then again, I am in NYC and doing it from home avg 3bars but I don't think that mattters...and neither does any of the apn for me they all the same...however out of curiosity I will try again outside when I get full bar
But those of you having trouble in tmobile can try any of the above three apn setting and see which one(if not all) is working for you...technically they all should work
I added the new APN settings and the LTE icon appears in the status bar but I can't connect to the internet
I'm looking for a method that will allow me to manually select what sort of mobile internet to use (LTE, HSPA+, EDGE).
This is for two reasons mainly:
1)Better battery life on 3G vs LTE
2)With a data cap I'd rather have lower speeds where I can control data usage better
3)All 4.2 ROMS do not show the mobile signal strength indicator on LTE but does show up for HSPA+ etc
I have tried several methods shown in various forums but to no avail. Also even unselecting 'automatic' and manually registering 3G under 'network operators' does not seem to fix this.
I am using T-Mobile in an LTE area.
Thanks

I have tried but everytime I click on lte or any other network it automatically flips right back to WCDMA.
After trying searching today countless apps and signal booster apps i finally found one that worked. I tried Viaero Toggle app from the play store and now have a constant 4g signal. I have tested 2 methods on the app. Tried a method setting my preferred network to just LTE and CDMA/LTE. Setting it to just LTE works except you have an X over your signal bars, CDMA/LTE doesnt.
1. Download the Viaero toggle app
2. Select phone information
3. Scroll down where it says preferred network
4. Select LTE or LTE/CDMA
This is for people who KNOW their supposed to have an LTE connection. I used to own a GS3 and had a constant LTE signal. Switching to the ONE my LTE constantly jumps from LTE to 3G which was my biggest gripe. Now I'm in love with my ONE all over again. So if you know you have this issue. This will help trust me.
Let me know your results. I really want to work for everyone because this has been pissing me off for the longest. I had even switched out for a second HTC one and they both had signal issues. If it doesnt help let me know and we can try other methods for different people.
The 2 pics i attached is one with just LTE and the other is LTE/CDMA
You know that X over the signal bars mean you no longer have a voice connection right? Kind of defeats the purpose of a phone

The better way of doing this would be to use the ##DATA# shortcut (provided you have your MSL), but you certainly can do this.

Funny thing is I have no APN's. When I try to manually add them they don't save.

Are you sure there is no LTE. I believe come of the notification icons are finicky. In other words, on mine someone it will show extremly low service bars but does not affect my phone? or data in any noticable way. Also are you in a bad service area?
What does the top right say? Have you received lte on previous devices being in the same location where you are now?

Radio for 5.0.1 ends with .04R. Do you ever show LTE in settings, see my screenshot. I've got Verizon obviously but with TMo you should get LTE too. If you have another phone stick the sim card in it and see if you get LTE in the other phone. If not could be the sim. Could be bad signal area too. FWIW TMo LTE is band 4 and soon to come band 12.
Wow. Thanks all for responses. @vvveith I am in an excellent service area LTE for miles! @zephiK Yes I used data over LTE on my Nexus 5 just fine. @jawmail Yes my radio ends with .04R. Sadly I do not have another phone nor SIM card adaptor to try your method with. Would the newer radio make my data signal fluctuate b/w 3G, H, and LTE? I understand that this is a different phone but I swapped radios on the Nexus4/5 all the time and it never hurt anything.

1) Did you get LTE on the 5.0 Radio?
2) Try setting it to LTE/GSM auto (PRL) instead
3) When you say APN is correct. Which one are you using / looking for? Ensure it is T-Mobile 4G LTE IPv6 (if its already on IPv6 try IPv4)
If worst comes to worst, go to the T-Mobile store and get a free SIM card replacement, if they don't want to give you a free SIM. Give them a call, it'll take a couple days to arrive but T-Mo employees are quite nice about giving SIM cards. Especially since you paid for a N6 which is expensive.

You had it right, its under more > cellular > access point names (APN), then select your carrier.

For the rom I am on I don't see under cellular the option for APN. Do I have to be back to factory to see it.

With custom Roms its hard to say. Safest answer would be yes go to factory

i change my networks all the time, without issue. if i put lte only, i get lte only. but cant make phone calls on it, so i use lte/gsm. if you dont have an lte signal, it will not connect to lte only.

I have an issue where my Nexus 6 will boot with LTE, but once it looses from getting/making a call it cannot regain it.

T-Mobile. Let the device sit overnight and it got LTE back. So it seems either the LTE radio in this device is terrible compared to my Note 3, or it just won't attempt to get back onto LTE all that often. Or my Devices LTE radio is messed up.

Telus Canada. XT1103.
Mine would stay on H+ after a call for a long time. I sometimes "force" it to connect to LTE by toggling cellular data and off in settings. Or a reboot.
Have tried the *#*#4636#*#* menu to change to "LTE only", but won't even connect to LTE in this case.
This feels like a software issue. Clearly it's not a network or hardware issue, since it can connect to LTE.

if its not connecting to lte when you set it to lte only, then you either dont have lte around when you set it or its an extremely weak signal.

Unfortunately, it depends a lot on where you are. The office building that I am in is very bad for LTE, signal at my desk is -100dbm, if I go outside it switches up to around -60 to -70dbm. If I choose 3G as the preferred network, sitting in exactly the same location the signal goes to -75dbm 19 au. If I am at my apartment, the LTE signal is much stronger there. This of course effects the battery life also. I am not sure if there is a way to default which LTE band is used since I think Telus only uses band 4 for LTE but I am not familiar with how the phone determines which band to use or if it keeps scanning all of them.

No, where I was testing it, LTE was strong. I also had a Nexus 5 right beside it, and it had no problem acquiring a full signal.
With the Nexus 6, after a reboot or the data toggle, it acquired LTE, again almost full signal.
So I decided to just leave it alone and use it as normal without worrying about LTE or H+. I did not toggle data or reboot, just leave it as is. I just observe. After a few days, it seems better in that it will be connect to LTE a short while after a call, and behaves like how I expected it to like on the Nexus 5.
Of course, immediately after a call, it will stay on H+. If I really wanted LTE right then, I just toggle the data on/off from settings (not by setting to "LTE only" in *#*#4636#*#* menu).
