Does anybody have one of these? The syncing feature doesn't seem to be working for me. I contacted the manufacture and they sent me another one, which I got today, and it still doesn't sync or see my phone when docked and plugged into my computer. I was wondering if anybody else had similar problem with their dock. I can sync to my PC with out the dock just fine.
Also I know the cradle comes with 2 different cables, 1 for charging and 1 for data syncing/charging.

just got one today
I put my N2 on the charger and it seems to be working. I also tested MTP and PTP over a USB cable and it's working. I'm using Windows 8. sounds like you got a defective unit. I would recommend this charger so far.

Could you tell me what rom you're using? Also what Windows are you using?
The first one didn't work, so they sent me another one. The second doesn't work either. I've tried different USB ports. The ones on my case, motherboard, keyboard, and usb hub. Different ROMS including the stock rom. I've tried this on my PC, my laptop, and my HTPC. I've tried both the cables that come with it and the Samsung OEM cable that comes with our phone. What are the chances of getting a 2nd defective unit?
I just looked at my dock and looked on the bottom. It says CHARGER DOCK. Could you tell me what your says?

I have troubles inserting the connector into the USB port on my NOOKcolor. I managed to get it in two times, but more out of luck than for any specific insertion method. In between the first and second insertion I failed many times and I cannot get it in ever since the second insertion (and detachment).
It seems to go in half-way but then stops. Does anybody else have this issue on their NOOK?
I've found that it fits at a slight angle up (when you have it plugged in, the connector will point slightly toward the back of the device).
Same thing that goldprorm said....once you figure out the exact way it wants to go in, it goes in fine....just seems to go in a little weird.
the microUSB connector seems to be non standard?
In addition to the finnickyness of inserting the microUSB connector to the nook color, I tried using the cable to connect my mobile phone to my computer. The microUSB would not insert fully into my phone. I didn't go any further to see if I could establish connectivity as I had another cable close by but I thought it strange as I have used many different microUSB cables and they have all worked fine in any other vendors device.
Does anyone know if there is something specific with the NC microUSB connector/cable?

Yeah, it uses extra pins to carry additional power to charge faster using the Nook cable and wall wart. A normal cable will work just fine with it but the nook cable is propritary and wont work with other devices...

Is it a proprietary cable? Looks like a variation of mini USB. Need to get some back-ups for the cars and work...
Thanks!
It's a normal micro USB plug, but the plug is slightly recessed into the body of the device, and some cords with fatter ends may not fit well. I found some OEM Samsung cables on Amazon that weren't for the Focus specifically, and have rubbery ends instead of the hard plastic tips like the Focus cord has, but they're the same dimensions and work quite well.
It is proprietary in a way. To charge the phone any micro usb will do however it will not connect to zune nor the pc without the included cable.
Well, looking at Monoprice.com a few days ago, they several different mini-usb cables, some with 4, other with 5 connectors. I ordered 2 of each just to try with various devices I have, hoping some with work with the Focus's as well. Just charging would be fine with the Car, but want PC connection at Home and Work. (though BT works for that as well)
Anyone else? Lets see what we do about getting some inexpensive cables for these phones!
Every micro usb cable i have found (including one i got for 1.98 from amazon and one i got for 6.00 from frys) has worked just fine for all tasks
My cables came in today, this one works just fine. 5 connector mini-usb, soon as I connected to my PC Zune software launched and synched items.

Just over a buck a piece....
I guess I need to get some new cables. Good information.
The cables I got off Amazon for $3/each all work for syncing with the Zune software on my PC, but then, they're OEM, so they should even though they weren't made for the focus specifically. They were a bit shorter than the cable that came packed-in, but my chargers are pretty close to where I put my phone anyway, luckily, so that worked out.
The OEM connector is so short. I always need to connect an extension to comportably use my phone while its charging.
Is anyone else having issues with the connection to their note dropping in an out using a USBc - A 3.0 cable? I have tried several cables and at least two different PCs, and if I leave it connected, I will get the windows usb detached, and usb attached sounds, sometimes back and forth over and over again.
In some cases it does it constantly, but then I think it has settled down and do a large copy and it might drop during the copy.
So far it doesn't seem to be happening with an older USB2 cable using the micro to usbc adapter and I don't have the OEM cable right now to make sure it is not the aftermarket cables (two different cable manufacturers).
Just checking to see if maybe there is something I am missing before I reach out to Samsung.
Bob
Okay, the cable that came with the phone seems to work with no problems.
Has anyone had problems with USBc - USB A 3.0 cables? I find it odd that the problem was on two different manufacturers and multiple cables/computers. If quality is the issue, then how do I know what cables to buy? I sure as hell don't want to have to pay samsung prices for all my cables!
I've read somewhere here on XDA that the included cable with the Note 8 is actually USB 2.0. The one included with the Gear 360 is USB 3.1, so if you got the promotion for that you can try and see if that works.
After an hour on the phone, being asked the same questions over and over, going through 3 people plus the chat for support. Samsung tells me to use the USB 2.0 cable that came with the phone and that they don't support non Samsung cables! I posted on Their FB page and have received some encouraging replies. So hopefully they will either tell me what I am doing wrong or send me a new phone.
I would also make sure that the phone is not putting something to sleep that is causing that as well. I had this happen when I was transferring from pc to phone the first time. It wouldn't stay connected, would always drop. Problem went away after factory reset, but I transferred files before I did anything else the second time and had no troubles.

Could there be something putting it to sleep on USB3 and not USB2? I have tested quite a bit and the only difference is 2.0 vs 3.0.
And samsung is sticking to ONLY samsung cables are supported. WHAT?!?!? They include a USB 2.0 cable and tell me THAT is what is supported on their 3.1 capable connection??? I am so close to just sending the damn thing back.
How many threads do you need to make?

i bought a few aukey usb 3.0 cables from Amazon, and use them effortless all the time with this phone..
Have you tried going into Device Manager > USB Root Hub(s) and disabling Power Management?
If you're performing a large copy, it's "possible" that the host (PC) "may" be dropping the connection.
As for the cables, I've used several brands without difficulties.
These work great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07213D35X/

It was just a thought, the only time I had trouble was before the factory reset, and I did set up all the auto sleeping stuff to help with battery(turns out I didn't need to). I always have used the Anker branded USB 3.1 3ft cords for transfer from pc to phone. They seem to give the best speeds .I never really tried to troubleshoot, using different cords, problem just went away.

Two different, but related questions. First I asked if anyone was having problems. Very few replies. Next I was asking if anyone had success with 3.0/3.1, since Samsung is telling me they don't support any cable but their 2.0.

Samsung makes USB 3.1 cables. They were telling you to use those if you want USB 3. They would never, ever give tech support on random 3rd party accessories (especially with the glut of crappy Chinese ones), so asking them for help with other manufacturer's cables will be futile. They're not telling you to never use 3rd party cables, but that they can't possible troubleshoot every single random cable.

No one has told me where to find a samsung 3.0/3.1 cable. They are telling me, and giving me part numbers ONLY to the 2.0 cable that came with the phone. I specifically mentioned that they are telling me that I am restricted to 2.0 and no one is telling me how to get 3.0/3.1 speeds. I can understand them not supporting 3rd party cables, but USB is a standard, and I am testing with several different cables. I have ordered some expensive, since samsung has not, depite my request, given me a link/part number for a Samsun 3.0/3.1 cable, to see make sure it is not the cable. Right now it looks like it is the phone.
My Note 8 started dropping and picking up connection to usb with the original charger. I plug it in to charge and it connects and reconnects once and then fast charging is turned off or dropped and it doesn't fast charge anymore. I replug It in to see if I get a chance for it to get fast charging. It goes to regular charging. I don't see any damage in the port and have used 2 of the same cables. I will keep monitoring this event. Ive never had this happen to me before with S8+ and Note 7. It sucks because it charges so slow when it's not fast charging and I compared charging durations with my S8+ and it's charging slightly faster than My Note 8. I need more time seeing what's up with this. Help is welcome. Thank you.
I have a very strange problem my phone refuses to charge whith any usb even the factory one except for an old nokia usb which is very short and old any thoughts about what is going on
I think you figured out your own problem.
So logically, you would take that cable that didn't work and use it on another device and see it if it works.
all the cables work with all phones except mine

You probably have a bad USB port. Same thing happened to me, so I bought what I call the heavy duty nylon USB's, works like a charm. If you use a cheap USB where the microUSB socket can bend easily, it won't sync up to your phone.
These are the cables I bought that works with my N6: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GFB1SLC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If you know the USB cables don't work, you could alternatively try to bend the microUSB side up/down to see if the N6 picks it up, that tells you the USB port is getting bad.
I haven't used my TouchPad for a few years, and I wanted to give it another try. Unfortunately I have misplaced the original cable that came with the unit. For charging purposes I'm okay, since I have a dock, but now that I wanted to possibly upgrade OS, I can't do anything without the original cable. Tried a few regular USB to micro USB cable, and none work. The computer (I tried Mac and Windows) does not see TouchPad connected.
Would like to upgrade from Cyanogen 4.1.2 to at least 4.4.4, or maybe Nougat, but without the original cable, looks like it's impossible.
Any idea where to get a replacement cable? Amazon has a few options (not too many), but I'm not sure if those would work. Some reviews are saying that charging works fine, but I'm not sure about the data transfer.
Any help is much appreciated.
You should be able to use any kind of Micro USB cable that has a big thicker width. Especially the really short ones won't work because they don't contain the correct connectors. You should just head to the store and a cable that you've got from them should work, but I doubt you would need one if you have a working cable. You have not explained what kind of modes you've tried, what you were even doing
Have you tried
1. Installing novacom driver? (Assuming you are wanting to mod)
2. Changing file transfer to transfer data (MTP)?
Thank you for the reply.
Yes, I was trying to upgrade to Lineage11 build and install Kitkat 4.4.4, with the idea to possibly upgrade it later to Android 7 Nougat. Right now I have Cyanogen 4.1.2, which I've installed a few years ago, but haven't used my TouchPad for quite a while. So, at first I had to recharge the battery which was completely discharged. I still have the original charger, but the USB cable I had didn't do a thing. The tablet was giving me a warning to use the original cable, which I don't have anymore (can't find it). I left the USB cable plugged in for 2-3 hours, and got no signs of life from the tablet. Then I remembered I had the charging dock somewhere, I luckily found it, and after only about 10-15 minutes, the tablet was back to life and started to charge.
The next day, I wanted to proceed with the upgrade. I still have WebOS installed, but this time I wanted to get rid of it. I installed Novacom driver and Toolbox v42. However, after putting the TP into WebOS recovery mode and plugging the USB cable between the computer and the tablet, I was getting the message that the connection to the TP cannot be established. I tried it on Windows 10, but also on a MacBook. Nothing worked. That's why I'm suspecting there is something wrong with the cable. It did not charge the tablet initially, and then it failed to transfer data. Since I have no idea where my original USB cable, that came with the tablet is, I ordered a new cable from Amazon. Just a regular Micro USB cable. It should arrive in a few days, and I hope it will work.
Thanks again for replying, and I'll let you know what happens when I get the cable.
I am still waiting for the new cable from Amazon. It will take another day or two, but now I really wonder if the cable I already have is bad. I just used it to successfully charge a couple of headphones. It worked just fine. But when I try to use it on my TP, no data transfer is possible, and as I said before it won't charge the tablet either. Really concerned that the new Amazon cable will do the same, which means - nothing. Quite confused, to say the least.
Sorry to bother you again folks, but this thing is driving me crazy. I don't know if it is cable related or not, but apparently I cannot install tptoolbox_v42.
Working in Windows 10, and after successfully installing Novacom driver, when I double click on the tptb_v42_win.bat file, the message I am getting is that the connection to TP cannot be established.
Then I tried running the same bat file as administrator. Now the message is that it cannot find TPToolbox-2015-01-08-v42.bin file. That binary file is sitting in the very same folder, as the executable.
What am I doing wrong? Or is it the cable?
Thanks!

The cable must provide data and charging, if the cable is charging the other phones properly then the cables is only to charge the phone and does not provide data.
The Toolbox can only be use to install an specific Android ROM and Recovery, it will not flash any other ROM version.

That has to be the problem with the cable I was using. The one I'm expecting to arrive from Amazon today is a charge/data cable. It should work...I hope.
Yup, it was the cable. Obviously what I had was a charging only cable. Just got a package from Amazon, tried the cable right away, and it works like a charm (charge and data).
