Last I read, the Nexus 7 didn't have MHL capabilities.
I believe this function was going to be added through the use of Nexus Q & Google TV systems. However that's officially on the back burner.

I am not sure if u can stream via hdmi fom nexus to TV, but if it is possible this is the cable u would need.

the future dock would still require the tablet to be mhl capable, therefore no, there is no and will be no way to directly plug the tablet into a television, what there is hope for is streaming via a nexus q device.
Hey folks, I'm new here. Have been lurking a bit.
I've been bugging Nexus support staff about features/upcoming features.. as I'd expected, they're pretty hush-hush
One guy even fibbed to me, saying that a USB OTG cable and peripherals such as keyboard, mouse, usb drives.. will not work with the Nexus, even if I unlock it. Maybe he just didn't know any better.
Anyhow, I love this little device, but the lack of tv-out in the form of display mirroring is flat-out pissing me off.
I'm not experienced with coding for android devices by any means, but I did have an idea. (If Nvidia doesn't certify Nexus 7 for Miracast sometime in the near future.. it IS a tegra 3 device, so I'm hoping they do. It may be the solution to our problem.)
...This idea could be too fantastic to be a realistic possibility, but I thought it was worth a share..
What if an apk could "trick" the protocol for displaying video via wifi on droid devices?
What if the receiver could detect the incoming signal as a video file, and the app on the device could trick the nexus (or other non-MHL droid device) into treating the screen display as a video file?
Since the latency between displaying video on the Nexus and displaying it on a television via wifi isn't bad (from what I know), it COULD be practical enough for gaming, if it were done correctly.
TL;DR, the app would screen-capture the display, and send it to a receiver as if it were a compatible video file.
Am I just speaking fantasy-talk? Is this feasible? Thoughts?
The tegra3 has wifi streaming similar to apples airplay. The receivers just aren't out yet. Reading up that tmobiles SGIII will have a premium pack with some kind of aircard device that streams video over wifi for $99.
I think we are also waiting on Dlink. You can already do this with a rasberryPi for a good DYI solution.
I'm waiting for someone to make a box and a roku channel that captures streams on the network.

The german translation is honest: you need an MHL-Device to use this adapter. As we know the nexus 7 isn't configured with one. It won't work.
Has anyone actually managed to make the Nexus 4 Wireless Display option work? Not much info around the web on it. Mainly people failing miserably.
I have an LG TV (47LM6610) which (apparently) supports "Screen Share" and it detects the Nexus 4, sends it an invite, I accept on the Nexus, the TV shows the Nexus as a connected device but the Nexus still shows nothing in its Wireless Display devices list.
Tried everything! Have emailed LG support and they were pretty dismissive and simply confirmed that it "should work". Sent an enquiry to Google support but not holding my breath.
Anyone had any luck with this or is it yet another half baked feature?

What happens often with these new standards is nobody talks to each other so they all implement it slightly differently.

Neither sad nor hilarious, just a classical case of the technological forerunner. Happened to pretty much every nontrivial technology. Some (like bluetooth profiles) did not overcome their problems till this day.
Regarding LG, their TV branch does not necessary even talk to the smartphone branch, much less to google.
Hopefully we'll see some proper miracast sinks sooner rather than later - at least there's demonstration videos showing up lately, that should be a good sign?

Latency seems quite good from what I can tell. I also like form factor!
Now the dropped frames on the other hand.. I guess the source is to blame? Let's see if the Nexus 4 does a better job at that

Obviously one product needs to be released before the other, especially one sided puts pressure to get implemented on the other side. Also its a software technology so that it's made by lg has no relevance whatsoever.
As far as I remember, Bluetooth existed on handsets long before anything used it. also TV software is a new thing, can't expect it to launch with that much implementation with phones when synergy between phones and TVs really has only been around for around two years or so.
Besides, when miracast was announced it was clear it was not backward compatible.
I've ordered the Netgear PTV3000 even that still have some bugs but I think they will update the firmware to connect with Nexus 4. There is a YouTube demonstrate it can work with Sony Phone that is Miracast support.

It is actually the other way round: Netgear PTV3000 is not known to properly support Miracast yet.

But LG TVs do mention WiFi Screen Share and WiDi. Its unlikely that they would mention Miracast as its not a very marketing friendly.

WiDi is Intel's standard, it supports Miracast as of version 3.5.
If it doesn't say Miracast, then assume it's not compatible.

Yes, WiDi v3.5 was announced just recently in last september.
Which means current LG TVs are likely to sport older WiDi versions which are not miracast compatible and won't connect to Nexus4 (or any other Miracast device for that matter).
Dying to find out
This is probably my most desired feature on this handset having tried for years to create software and services that would do it on all my other phones.
My flatmate has an HTC MediaLink HD, and from what I understand from the protocols and how that works, using wifi direct etc and seeing the screen mirroring work on his One X, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work with the N4, but I guess only time will tell - yep, still waiting for my "order confirmation" to be turned into a "tracking email"
As soon as I get it and tried it out I'll post back.

I have the Samsung Allshare Wireless Hub. It does not work with the Nexus 4. It pairs, but will not display audio/video at all.
Isn't it funny how the 3 new "standards" the N4 is pushing aren't really that universal?

The Nokia Qi Chargers don't work with the Nexus 4
Slimport isn't as ubiquitous as MHL
That does DLNA not Miracast.

DLNA is merely a "file fetcher". A network drive interface.
Don't get me wrong that is extremely useful. I download torrents on my phone and play them on my TV all day. But you know what? I'd actually buy most movies and shows I watch if I could mirror Google TV to my TV. No, I am not gonna buy a box for that, it defeats the purpose to me. I'd buy blu-rays if I wanted to use extra hookups.

The problem with the nexus 4 was that the usb port didnt put out enough current to support it but i read that a guy with the 2013 model of the nexus 7 managed to pull it off
I think it really comes down to what the current over OTG is on the G2
I think the nexus 4 only output 300 mA but i could also be wrong
My G2 is currently shattered due to falling off the table so im waiting until i get my replacement to test it myself

OTG + Slimport, Its actually one of the comments on the amazon page for that cable, thats why i question it
If there is enough power to support OTG then slimport should work because i believe that slimport is powered over HDMI

Signs are not good... the moto x 2014 doesn't have slimport or MHL
I use the slimport of N5 everyday to a TV. If there's no slimport or MHL, what options do I have for screenmirroring without wifi?
I guess we'll see if the screen mirroring technology has improved. My Nexus 5 is hit or miss. If there's no Slimport support, I hope it can mirror good. I use the crap out of my Slimport for movies & tv.
I desperately need this feature as well, MHL/SlimPort/MirrorLink, ONE of the 3 will do. I have an NEX4000 Pioneer head unit and I use my phone to display navigation on the touchscreen DAILY. With one of these 3 technologies not only does it mirror my phones display on my head unit, it also alows the touchscreen on my radio to control my phone AND my phone screen can be off. both of these are impossible with mirrorcast and other wifi video sources. This will really annoy me if all the sudden I cant use navigation in my car.

Pioneer has been pretty good about adding features through firmware updates. Since they were able to add CarPlay to the 4000NEX, they should also be able to add Android Auto when that comes out. If they do, you won't need MHL to use Google Maps on your head unit.

This is a big factory in my purchasing decision as well. Hopefully it will have SlimPort, but as many others have said, Motorola has a poor track record in this area.
I have a Nex4000 as well and I am in the same boat. Anyone know if there is a way to find a definitive answer to this question?
Edit: I talked with google play support. The person I spoke with actually couldn't find out the answer. She is going to email me back when a lead tech comes in to figure this out.

All that means is she didn't contact anyone like she said she would. I would follow up and simply ask, was slimport or MHL support added to the device. its a yes or no. it's impossible for there to be a maybe like she suggested. you cant ACCIDENTALLY have slim port support then ACCIDENTALLY break it. good grief.
Just push her to contact someone who will know, I work in technical support and unfortunately this is how it works

IDK, im grasping at straws until its confirmed by someone actually SHOWING it working. I still will probably get the phone, but i'll have to wait till and android Auto head unit is released first so that way I don't lose my navigation and other functions.

Last couple of Nexus phones has been missing the Bluetooth apt-X support. The specs of Nexus 6 has no mention of it despite of Nexus 9 has it listed on its spec sheet. Majority of recent Motorola phones has had the feature what gives a bit of hope for N6. Does anyone have information is apt-X really missing from the Nexus 6? It is a important feature to us who uses bluetooth headphones,

I had to Google this because I had no idea what it was. I assume there is a licensing fee in order to use it. Did LG include it in their non Nexus devices like the G2?
If Moto can include it in the X, I see no reason why they couldn't in the N6.

According the past discussion of Nexus 5 apt support, it needs both hardware support and license.

I dont think the Galaxy nexus had support for APT-X, at least not out of the box. Maybe it was added in later but I remember a few people asking if it was possible to mod into the phone back when I used to use a Galaxy Nexus.

Now that some people have the phone in hand, is there more information about this?
For those who have an aptx receiver and an aptx capable phone or tablet, logcat can be used to determine aptx is working.
Install catlog.
Run catlog.
Enable Bluetooth.
Pair devices.
Unpair.
Stop catlog.
Search catlog log in the catlog app for aptx.
It is pretty easy to tell when looking at the log. You can see when the devices pair in the log and what protocol it uses to connect.
Aptx FTW!
Let's hope the Nexus 6 supports it.

Where in these links do you see someone saying that the Nexus 6 does not support AptX? The only mention of it was two random people discussing the importance of AptX in relation to the Nexus 7 and Moto X.
I did not see any conclusions or affirmations of the Nexus 6 not having AptX.

I enabled it by using the latest Lineage OS that dates from yesterday, Magisk 14 and the Magisk APTX module. That worked for me and was able to confirm it by using the Catlog which shows that there is a thread working for the btif_a2dp_encoder_init Selected Codec: aptX.
