Nexus 7 tv out?

Do they sell an Hdmi cable that is compatible with this tab so I can connect it to my tv?

Last I read, the Nexus 7 didn't have MHL capabilities.

I believe this function was going to be added through the use of Nexus Q & Google TV systems. However that's officially on the back burner.

I am not sure if u can stream via hdmi fom nexus to TV, but if it is possible this is the cable u would need.

the future dock would still require the tablet to be mhl capable, therefore no, there is no and will be no way to directly plug the tablet into a television, what there is hope for is streaming via a nexus q device.

Hey folks, I'm new here. Have been lurking a bit.
I've been bugging Nexus support staff about features/upcoming features.. as I'd expected, they're pretty hush-hush
One guy even fibbed to me, saying that a USB OTG cable and peripherals such as keyboard, mouse, usb drives.. will not work with the Nexus, even if I unlock it. Maybe he just didn't know any better.
Anyhow, I love this little device, but the lack of tv-out in the form of display mirroring is flat-out pissing me off.
I'm not experienced with coding for android devices by any means, but I did have an idea. (If Nvidia doesn't certify Nexus 7 for Miracast sometime in the near future.. it IS a tegra 3 device, so I'm hoping they do. It may be the solution to our problem.)
...This idea could be too fantastic to be a realistic possibility, but I thought it was worth a share..
What if an apk could "trick" the protocol for displaying video via wifi on droid devices?
What if the receiver could detect the incoming signal as a video file, and the app on the device could trick the nexus (or other non-MHL droid device) into treating the screen display as a video file?
Since the latency between displaying video on the Nexus and displaying it on a television via wifi isn't bad (from what I know), it COULD be practical enough for gaming, if it were done correctly.
TL;DR, the app would screen-capture the display, and send it to a receiver as if it were a compatible video file.
Am I just speaking fantasy-talk? Is this feasible? Thoughts?

The tegra3 has wifi streaming similar to apples airplay. The receivers just aren't out yet. Reading up that tmobiles SGIII will have a premium pack with some kind of aircard device that streams video over wifi for $99.
I think we are also waiting on Dlink. You can already do this with a rasberryPi for a good DYI solution.
I'm waiting for someone to make a box and a roku channel that captures streams on the network.

The german translation is honest: you need an MHL-Device to use this adapter. As we know the nexus 7 isn't configured with one. It won't work.

Wireless Display (Miracast)

Has anyone actually managed to make the Nexus 4 Wireless Display option work? Not much info around the web on it. Mainly people failing miserably.
I have an LG TV (47LM6610) which (apparently) supports "Screen Share" and it detects the Nexus 4, sends it an invite, I accept on the Nexus, the TV shows the Nexus as a connected device but the Nexus still shows nothing in its Wireless Display devices list.
Tried everything! Have emailed LG support and they were pretty dismissive and simply confirmed that it "should work". Sent an enquiry to Google support but not holding my breath.
Anyone had any luck with this or is it yet another half baked feature?

What happens often with these new standards is nobody talks to each other so they all implement it slightly differently.

Hilarious (or sad?) that one of the Nexus 4's major features gets released without a single compatible device?! Even when using two devices from the same manufacturer.
I'd love to hear a success story but I highly doubt there is one out there.

Neither sad nor hilarious, just a classical case of the technological forerunner. Happened to pretty much every nontrivial technology. Some (like bluetooth profiles) did not overcome their problems till this day.
Regarding LG, their TV branch does not necessary even talk to the smartphone branch, much less to google.

Hopefully we'll see some proper miracast sinks sooner rather than later - at least there's demonstration videos showing up lately, that should be a good sign?

Latency seems quite good from what I can tell. I also like form factor!
Now the dropped frames on the other hand.. I guess the source is to blame? Let's see if the Nexus 4 does a better job at that

Obviously one product needs to be released before the other, especially one sided puts pressure to get implemented on the other side. Also its a software technology so that it's made by lg has no relevance whatsoever.
As far as I remember, Bluetooth existed on handsets long before anything used it. also TV software is a new thing, can't expect it to launch with that much implementation with phones when synergy between phones and TVs really has only been around for around two years or so.
Besides, when miracast was announced it was clear it was not backward compatible.

I've ordered the Netgear PTV3000 even that still have some bugs but I think they will update the firmware to connect with Nexus 4. There is a YouTube demonstrate it can work with Sony Phone that is Miracast support.

It is actually the other way round: Netgear PTV3000 is not known to properly support Miracast yet.

I also have an lg TV and yea it doesn't work . sees it but no . lol I guess its not miracast ? I haven't seen that word in the instructions anywhere

But LG TVs do mention WiFi Screen Share and WiDi. Its unlikely that they would mention Miracast as its not a very marketing friendly.

WiDi is Intel's standard, it supports Miracast as of version 3.5.
If it doesn't say Miracast, then assume it's not compatible.

Yes, WiDi v3.5 was announced just recently in last september.
Which means current LG TVs are likely to sport older WiDi versions which are not miracast compatible and won't connect to Nexus4 (or any other Miracast device for that matter).

Dying to find out
This is probably my most desired feature on this handset having tried for years to create software and services that would do it on all my other phones.
My flatmate has an HTC MediaLink HD, and from what I understand from the protocols and how that works, using wifi direct etc and seeing the screen mirroring work on his One X, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work with the N4, but I guess only time will tell - yep, still waiting for my "order confirmation" to be turned into a "tracking email"
As soon as I get it and tried it out I'll post back.

I have the Samsung Allshare Wireless Hub. It does not work with the Nexus 4. It pairs, but will not display audio/video at all.

Isn't it funny how the 3 new "standards" the N4 is pushing aren't really that universal?
Devices claiming Miracast devices don't work with the N4, yet
The Nokia Qi Chargers don't work with the Nexus 4
Slimport isn't as ubiquitous as MHL

That does DLNA not Miracast.

DLNA is merely a "file fetcher". A network drive interface.
Don't get me wrong that is extremely useful. I download torrents on my phone and play them on my TV all day. But you know what? I'd actually buy most movies and shows I watch if I could mirror Google TV to my TV. No, I am not gonna buy a box for that, it defeats the purpose to me. I'd buy blu-rays if I wanted to use extra hookups.

Sever Audio Chop on JVC LT-46P510

I was excited to get my Chromecast today, but not excited after testing some of the apps. I can use Netflix fine without issue, but all other apps have severe audio choppiness. For the sake of testing I moved the CC to my Vizio TV and tested the various apps and had no issues. My issue seems to be specific to my JVC LT-46P510 TV.
Anyone have any ideas on a fix? I checked for a firmware update, but nothing. Hoping someone has an answer out there.

I've heard of problems just like this. Other cases were signal issues. Use the extender that came with the cc and make sure the power is plugged into the wall and not a USB on the TV. If this doesn't work you might want to think of moving g the router if possible.

In that case, try moving the Chromecast and router farther apart. Too close/strong is also not good for signal strength - the whole constructive/destructive interference thing.

It's up to the individual app as to what it points Chromecast to, then it's up to the provider (or site) as to what format is delivered. Seems Netflix is delivering audio in a format that is problematic for your equipment. HDMI supports a few different audio formats as well as sampling rates and bit depths.

I have the opposite problem. Netflix is all jacked up like Alvin and the chipmunks underwater while other apps are fine.

Well you say the device works fine on other TVs right?
That suggests it isn't the CCast that is the problem...
Only thing left to blame is the TV. I would suggest calling JVC support.
One thing I noted from your Manual specs is the TV only supports PCM. I'm going to guess this is a very old TV as far as HDMI standards go.

Sadly, it might be. My Sony TV is 2009 and it doesn't support DLNA Video - only Pictures and Music. Not that I'd really use its interface for that anyway, but you get the point.
Manufacturers tend to lag behind the release of a standard since it takes time to design a product, acquire licenses, and bring it to market. The times when they are chomping at the bit to be first (or at least current), you get stuff like the early 802.11n "draft" hardware that didn't always get updated if there was some hardware limitation.

It's less about what year the TV was made and more about how old the design is and what technology they decided to include.
Sometimes to keep the price down they use older circuitry and outdated CPUs since they are cheap to buy at the time,
Sometimes it's all about how much time they spent on the Settings programming, and protocol support.
Still say that a call to JVC would be the best option, Just be sure to tell them that you have no problems with your unit in other areas and DO NOT under ANY circumstances tell them anything they can use to say NOT OUR PROBLEM!
Don't mention things like Signal Strength of WiFi or anything but the fact that it doesn't work with their TV but works with all the others.
Give them even an inch to say it's not our fault and you will get no help.
Hopefully your will not be the first call they get if it is a model wide problem and maybe they will come up with a firmware update to fix it.

No just that it maybe time to upgrade your TV or that there maybe something wrong with it that you hadn't noticed till now.

Only had the TV about 2 years. I did open a ticket with JVC, though have done that in the past for another issue and never heard a word from them. Poor technical support. Will see what happens with this one.

The only way to get good results from tech support is to call them and keep them on the phone until they have a decent answer....
Most of the time that means getting past the guy reading from the idiot test menu that tells you the shut off or power down the unit blah blah blah....
Normally I wouldn't blame the TV but you said the unit works fine on others but not the JVC.
The only other option I can think of is to buy a cheap Audio Amp that has at least two HDMI Inputs and plug the CCast into that and let the Amp feed the TV. Then at least your gaining some capability for the money you will be spending.
I would never buy a JVC TV (I tend to stay away from Panasonic these days as well).
Samsung is the Monitor leader along with Phillips. Samsung actually makes a lot of the LED Panels the other brands use.

Don't be afraid to politely ask for your case to be escalated.
I still remember when Sony support was adamant that I unscrew my Clie NX80V's stylus to push the reset button on the back... The NX80V's stylus didn't unscrew and its reset was on the side, pushable by the non-unscrewing stylus. I humored them and pretended to unscrew it.
You could also get an off-board decoder that will "dumb things down" to PCM, but for what you'll usually pay for that, you get a better deal getting the amp with it.

Yes don't be afraid to ask to be escalated to a higher level tech. They are available but usually only get them when you confuse the ell out of the guy who originally answered the phone by talking tech way over his head! LOL

Well Sadly I have yet to find a solution to my issue. I pretty much have a Chromecaset where only the Netflix app works on my JVC TV. Not going to upgrade my TV just to get Chromecast to work. Back to a Roku I guess.

I have not seen any specific threads addressing this, and thus far I am guessing I know the answer to my own question.. but is it possible to use my device for audio instead of my television? My specific issue is the fact that I am using an old computer monitor for my chromecast in my bedroom. It does not have HDMI, so I am using an HDMI to DVI converter (no audio). I'm fairly certain that there's no way (doubt my Nexus 7 being rooted would help) to stream the audio through my device but I thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks people.

Not really since the CCast for all intents and purposes is pulling the file from the source and while you could probably get the mbile device to pull the same file it would be next to impossible to sync the two in any meaningful way.
Your best bet is to get a HDMI to VGA Breakout cable/box that will pull the Audio out of the HDMI so you can plug into an amp or Powered Speakers.

But if you use one of those your likely to lose the ability to play some content that requires HDCP to play (I'm thinking Netflix might require this)

That was an idea I had. But that looks like a VGA when the computer monitor has DVI. To get what I'd need to get sound running with the converter price wise, it'd almost make more sense just to get something that has an HDMI input. This was only a temporary method until I get married. After that we'll have plenty of devices collectively to get anything we need working on any of our televisions. I'd use my television with my Chromecast but around 4 years ago the HDMI ports were fried by the cable guy somehow. So all I have connected now is a 360 connected through component cables. If it wasn't for my Android phone and tablet I'd be in the technological stone age.

You can get an HDMI audio extractor box but make sure it has the type of audio you need (analog, digital coax, or digital optical)
Some computer monitors allow audio over DVI, but it's still hit and miss.

Yeah I considered that. But with all things considered, a $40 price tag is a pretty steep alternative for what I was hoping. Maybe when Chromecast mirroring is released it will accomplish what I was hoping for.

True. That's why I didn't post the $99 one.
If your TV is under warranty I'd get it fixed.
Even if you got audio out of your device it would be very difficult to sync it with what's playing on Chromecast, as they'd essentially be pulling two entirely separate streams.
The same would hold for Android screen mirroring when it arrives, but that would be a delay due to having to get the screen data to Chromecast.

TV is fairly old and hasn't been under warranty for a while. It's a 47". Once we get married we'll be purchasing a 60" or so one. The 360 works fine with component cable on it for now. I'll be using the Chromecast with the newer TV. If I didn't have that engagement ring expense I'd already have that 60" along with my '69 Charger. She offered to help pay for it, but what's the fun in that?!

If we're lucky maybe Google will enable the Bluetooth so we can have some Bluetooth audio, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Now that'd be an interesting feature! Didn't think of that actually. Wouldn't they need new hardware for that like on a Chromecast 2?

Not necessarily. iFixit's teardown showed the radio is an AzureWave AW-NH387 802.11 b/g/n WLAN, Bluetooth and FM Combo Module, so it's Bluetooth 3.0 capable and compatible with North American and European FM radio bands.
In theory Google could give us Chromecast FM, hehe.
The Lytro camera had similar radio capabilities which were disabled at launch. They eventually enabled the WiFi, though in an AdHoc mode, and they've pretty much written off Android support, so it was a bit of a wash to me.

They sell the same type of box with DVI output...So just buy the appropriate box for your connections.
You can find them for under $100 (prob around $60) but then again if your going to spend that much your probably better off just saving for a good TV which would accommodate all your devices properly.

Anyone try MirrorLink?

I'm considering getting this phone.
I have a Sony head unit quick supports MirrorLink. According to various press releases, this phone is supposed to support it, but I have heard mixed things about whether or not MirrorLink actually works.
Can anyone with a compatible car stereo please give it a try and let me know if/how MirrorLink works? It's the only thing keeping me from buying this phone.

Unfortunately, I've still yet to hear anything about MirrorLink working, but I did find someone who didn't get it working, with some kind of 'no mirrorlink compatible applications found' type of error.
I'm hoping someone who has a mirrorlink compatible head unit and a Note 4 can chime in on this!

Mirrorlink Error Galaxy Note 4 and AppRadio3
I hooked up my Note 4 with my AppRadio3 and it tells me i have no supported applications. The phone starts mirrorlink and tells me it is connected and the mirrorlink icon on the stereo appears, but when i press the button, it gives me the error and has a black screen. I am using the pioneer Mirrorlink USB cables.

Thanks for that. I actually bought one before reading your comment, tried it, experienced the same problem, and returned the phone. Otherwise, was a great phone.

Called pioneer. Found out all the new phones. M8 and note 4 use mirrorlink 1.1 and pioneer uses 1.0. They don't know when they will upgrade to the new standard.

I have an M8 and it works with my XAV-601BT, which is very old and only supports MirrorLink 1.0, so I am sure that the M8 is ok, at least with my unit.
At least since you have an AppRadio, you can probably use ARUnchained or the like, but you'll have to go through rooting and finding a kernel with permissive SELinux.

Have tried connecting my Note4 to my Pioneer 6000NEX. I do get a connected screen on my phone, but a blank screen on the deck itself. I hope they fix this soon. Appradio with the MHL connector works perfectly tho, BTW.

Pioneer no plans to update flash on current radios
I spoke with Pioneer today as my 4600BH is not working with mirrorlink and Note 4.
Pioneer rep told me they have no plans to update the current flash's of their radios as they run MirrorLink v1.0 and if I want MirrorLink to work to "Go out and buy a 2015 model"
Ya.... that is what they told me...... best customer service I have ever had....
Also MirrorLink (CCC) told me that they create the MirrorLink driver and that is all, the driver is sold to Samsung, Pioneer etc.... and the contract they sign places responsability of supporting the MirrorLink with their software on the hands of the company, not MirrorLink........

Mirror link does NOT work... Currently have a note 4 with a Pioneer 2015 deck Avh-x5700bhs
... The phone says connected but the head unit screen stays black... Pioneer offered no resolution and neither did Samsung

According to a review on Amazon... Mirrorlink is supposedly working now after Note 4 lollipop update... I however think it's bull, it was posted over a month ago and I don't think the note 4 revieved Android 5.0 on any carrier at the time.. Anyone confirm this??

upside..downside... IF you have lollipop, note 4 and even the galaxy s6 WILL connect to mirrorlink, however.. it has yet to work LOL... it connects..says its connected..but the only app I have control over on the radio is my PHONE. no nav, maps ..nothing.. still cant figure out what im doing wrong..even spent money on a "special cable" that was required in order to allow connectivity

Yeah... Me too, oh well.. By the way, I had a friend over yesterday that owned and iPhone 6...and it worked perfectly with the Head unit... YouTube, GPS, PANDORA, SPOTIFY, FACEBOOK... It figures :-/

From what I'd heard, it's only the Note 4 that was having a problem. Other MirrorLink 1.1 Android Phones had no issues. No need to jump on the iPhone sheep wagon.

Hmmmn.... Samsung is for ever pissing me off... Never owned an iPhone and probably never will but everytime I try and leave Samsung they come out with something I want... The Note 5 for instance is rumored to be redesigned and incredible..

Yeah, but if they offer 128gb of internal memory...im good with that or even an 80gb version... On board memory will make for a better experience anyway..micro sd cards are great but (for me)they're not needed. I have a class 10 64gb card in my device and I've never filled it up. I'll torrent movies straight to my device but, I don't keep them, once I watch them, I delete them. + my car deck reads jump drives so I keep my music on a jump drive and it's bad ass... So for me, I'll be good...

I have the Note 4 with Lolipop 5.0.1 and a Pioneer AVH-X5700BHS head unit with the latest firmware from Pioneer (8.29) and mirror link will connect the phone to the deck, but the only app available is AppRadioLive, which in my opinion is totally useless.
