Slimport ?

Anyone know if it has this, I use it all the time on my nexus 5, a quick check shows the moto x doesn't have it

Signs are not good... the moto x 2014 doesn't have slimport or MHL

I use the slimport of N5 everyday to a TV. If there's no slimport or MHL, what options do I have for screenmirroring without wifi?

I guess we'll see if the screen mirroring technology has improved. My Nexus 5 is hit or miss. If there's no Slimport support, I hope it can mirror good. I use the crap out of my Slimport for movies & tv.

I desperately need this feature as well, MHL/SlimPort/MirrorLink, ONE of the 3 will do. I have an NEX4000 Pioneer head unit and I use my phone to display navigation on the touchscreen DAILY. With one of these 3 technologies not only does it mirror my phones display on my head unit, it also alows the touchscreen on my radio to control my phone AND my phone screen can be off. both of these are impossible with mirrorcast and other wifi video sources. This will really annoy me if all the sudden I cant use navigation in my car.

Pioneer has been pretty good about adding features through firmware updates. Since they were able to add CarPlay to the 4000NEX, they should also be able to add Android Auto when that comes out. If they do, you won't need MHL to use Google Maps on your head unit.

Yeah it does, but idk if they just make those specs up in all honesty, no where else mentions it, not even on the moto site

This is a big factory in my purchasing decision as well. Hopefully it will have SlimPort, but as many others have said, Motorola has a poor track record in this area.

I have a Nex4000 as well and I am in the same boat. Anyone know if there is a way to find a definitive answer to this question?
Edit: I talked with google play support. The person I spoke with actually couldn't find out the answer. She is going to email me back when a lead tech comes in to figure this out.

While Google does not support third-party display adapters, or guarantee that Nexus devices will work with these third-party adapters, the Nexus 6 may work with third-party display adapters.
If a recent OS update causes a Nexus device to stop working with a display adapter, contact the manufacturer of the adapter.

All that means is she didn't contact anyone like she said she would. I would follow up and simply ask, was slimport or MHL support added to the device. its a yes or no. it's impossible for there to be a maybe like she suggested. you cant ACCIDENTALLY have slim port support then ACCIDENTALLY break it. good grief.
Just push her to contact someone who will know, I work in technical support and unfortunately this is how it works

IDK, im grasping at straws until its confirmed by someone actually SHOWING it working. I still will probably get the phone, but i'll have to wait till and android Auto head unit is released first so that way I don't lose my navigation and other functions.

There is a guy who purchased a Nexus 6 off of craiglist, you could ask him if the phone has slimport, MHL, etc.

Anybody else's metadata not working with head units?

Mine doesn't work with note 4. Specifically a '14 civic si. Curious to know if anybody else's factory head unit or aftermarket stopped sending metadata once you got note4. It works fine with my HTC m8 but I'd rather not resort to carrying both to have metadata. BTW, this is important thread. There are a couple or thread on code.google.com about avrcp and metadata not working right on a few phones since 4.4.

I had the issue with my LG G3 as well, but not my Oneplus.
Hopefully this is fixed with 5.0.

Not displaying in my '15 Optima, but at least it plays, better than my last car.

G3 is also common phone with this problem. There is a fix for Spotify in app store though. Still can't find a good thread about this issue if it's strictly android or OEM related or both.

2013 Mazda 3 with the bose system.
I had a Galaxy S3 and it worked perfectly with the car's controls and displaying album info on the dash.
I just upgraded to the Note 4 and the controls work, but I can't get album info anymore.
The S3 was up to date as much as I could get it- Android 4.4.4 with the latest music apps available. The Note 4 is also 4.4.4. The default music app does look a bit different, but I also tried Google Play Music. I played with as many settings as I could with no luck. It just doesn't display the song it's playing.
Supposedly this is because the Note 4 is using AVRCP 1.4 while the head unit is 1.3?

You have to send e mails and call and contact anyway possible. The factory units don't get updated unless the factory leans on the radio builder to make a software update. Phones get upgraded and so should radio to support the latest phones.
BAD ASS NOTE 4

Everything works for me. 2013 Toyota Tundra. Get song and album info. Spotify works as well. Worked on my Note 3 before and works the same now with the Note 4.

I'm having the same issue with my 2012 Mazdaspeed 3, my Note 3 worked fine, Now I have the Note 4 I get no song or album info.

Yeah sucks. Using my my HTC m8 still as that is my main mode of music anyways. Still would rather my note4 work correctly instead of forgetting my m8 occasionally. Still can't find out if this is Samsung's fault or both Samsung and Honda.

I'll add to this and bump. 2014 Dodge Ram. No meta data on Uconnect head unit. My note 3 on my Verizon line displays just fine. It's definitely note 4 or latest android specific.

Has anyone heard anything further about a possible fix for this?

I too have a 14 Si, is yours a coupe or sedan? Also, I just jumped to the Note from a G3 and it worked prior to that. Could it be dependant on Android Version? I can't remember exactly but I want to say the G3 had 4.4.2

Coupe. DBP. m8 is on the 4.4.3/4 version. Was gonna convert to gpe again but HTC dropped the ball twice this week. I am guessing it's on Samsung side now. Everything call related has been very inconsistent and it's starting to get on my nerves.

Can't decide which Android Auto head unit to get

It seems none of the tech sites have done any real reviews these things, which makes them hard to compare.
First it looks like its between Kenwood and Pioneer. Are there any big advantages to either one? I read a comment from someone who said the kenwoods had faster cpus and dedicated GPS antennas which helped a lot with Android Auto performance and downtown GPS locks. Any truth to that?
Then I'd need to decide on a sub model. It looks like the only difference between the Kenwoods is aptx? Currently the 970 is 200 cheaper than the 990. Does aptx have any place when using Android Auto or is it just for base features?
The top of the line Pioneer has a capactive display, but is also a thousand dollars. Does anyone know if it is worth it? Does it perform any better than its siblings?
I'd also like to have a mic for voice commands and calls and add a backup camera. I will more than likely use a dedicated nexus 5 plugged in all the time. Will it automatically start with out intervention with the car?

I'm not familar with the Kenwoods, but I'm happy with my Pioneer 4100NEX.
Pioneer put out an Android Auto compatible headunit I think 3-4 months before Kenwood (or anyone else) released any.
This IMO is likely due to the fact that Pioneer HUs run Android, AND they have a good relationship with Google. These are good reasons to consider Pioneer devices.

Works perfect.
No problems thus far, no regrets.
Basic radio on the unit works well, and the Android Auto experience has been great too. Have only experienced a few minor problems with the Android Auto app itself, which have seemed to have been resolved with updates over time.

Note 8 as iPod for car head units

Hello everyone !
I have a Honda jazz/Fit and it have a usb port that support iPod.
Is there any way the unit recognise my note 8 as iPod so I can skip music from the steering wheel ?
I also have a pioneer avh4200dvd in my Mitsubishi evo X . Is there any app or any other way to do it ?

thanks for sharing the info... ordered a cable and anxious to try this with Tidal "HiFi" offline music via my car's head unit.

just ordered myself one. Unfortunately the blue tooth in my car has a 3 second delay even with my old V20 and now the Note 8. my car is on the compatibility list so fingers crossed.

Received my cable a few days ago and it works well with Google Play and USB Audio Player Pro. Unfortunately for me, when using the cable with the Tidal app, playlists/albums only play one song at a time. In other words I have to manually advance to the next song when listening to an album or play list.
Another nit is that music sometimes continues to play via the phone when a call comes in when phone is connected to Bluetooth in my car.

I was looking at new equipment and found a company called Belsee. Can anyone tell me more about these new units. It appears that Belsee is new and has the newest hardware.

Welcome new poster. These appear to be MTCD or variant of and with BC5 Bluetooth module, I'm not sure how these could possibly be called "newest hardware."
From reviewing their website, they are yet another reseller of vanilla MTCD units with the same issues as all others and possibly more with a BC5!

Interesting. I’m not sure why the Bluetooth unit would be a concern. What would you suggest as being the top of the line and newest?

If Bluetooth is a concern apparently they will upgrade the bic5 to parrot for around $60 USD.
I'd like to hear about anyone's experience with their products. Looks interesting but I'm not sure yet.
They aren't exactly cheap. But the memory is very tempting.

I have it installled on my 17 crosstrek. Works well. I have it connected to my phones (android) hotspot and bluetooth for calls. Works perfectly there just hickups when you have a new launcher, pandora, Dash cam recording and google maps running. But all in all WAY better then stock! Just needed to get my reverse camera professionally installed to get working. The rest like steering controls and everything else was plug and play. Also just fyi the radio SUCKS A** on it. So don't use it.
