Do I have to have permission from the original creator? I want to port a sensation ROM but the op never messaged me back
sent from my HTC Vivid
I was also thinking of porting an miui ROM just for xda since the one I update is only for somewhere else
sent from my HTC Vivid
Generally yes, you do need permission to use someone else's work. Some developers will state outright that you can use their work for whatever, but not often.
What are you trying to port?

If you want - just start with a Sensation RUU, rather than a custom ROM. Grab the RUU, extract the temporary rom.zip that's created when you run it, put it in dsixda's kitchen, root/deodex/etc and make a build. Now you have a "custom" sensation ROM that you created. Port it. Profit?

I was wondering why the senseless ROMs for the vivid are all ports. I wanted to make one and add a theme to it. It'd be easier to make one with the stock deodexed vivid ROM wouldn't it

Yes.
Well..depends. Are you a better themer or porter? If you can't theme to save your life, then it might be easier to port a ROM that has themes readily available. If you know how to theme, it's hands down easier to use a Vivid base.

Theming is generally easy but you need to have TONs of patience...I've only made one theme and it took me 2-3 weeks and it still wasn't finished...
You have to edit easily over a thousand images...then to some XML edits for text color...
And that's just for a simple change the color of things kinda theme...I guess a skilled computer graphics guy could crank out a theme fast...but for the average guy it takes a while...then again I do have a short attention span lol

Ok, i have started this thread because of peoples interest in SENSE so i thought we could port it.
Someone in th SE X8 section ported quite a few ROMS and i have his ported legend downloaded to take a look.
If you are interested in getting involved in development then post what you know here and we can get started.
I am trying to see if i can get this to run at all on our device and how to make it work with our harware.
If we work from a legend ROM we could get this to work.
If we can get more variety then cm and other rom builders might support our phone. Also this might be teaching us all of what other ROM builders do and we will have more in depth knowledge to create our own ROMS and become DEVS
I love your idea but my knowledge of deving doesn't stretch far enough to be any help, but yes, I can't wait to see a sense ROM!
Good i would like a sense Rom

Anything is possible mate, it's just the difficulty in porting such roms. Lets hope these Sense and MIUI Rom's are not too difficult to port.

Great miui will be great. Thanks ZduneX25 you would be a great help and sense is allready mdpi so no worries everyone has their own taste.
everyone go and do your studying and report back here for some discussion.
Thanks
Hey thanks for moving the thread,
yes i like both miui and sense but..
do you guys think miui would look good on mdpi?
i don't think so..,
if we port sense then a 2.2 rom cuz i want to move my apps,
without all the app2sd ****,
Hmm.....I don't really like Sense that much...prefer TouchWiz, Motoblur or Timescape.
Yes now go look around for some peeps who have done this and ask them where they got sense or miui parts from.

If you like that stuff then go study on it and come back here.

Hey guys. I was thinking of Rooting/Flashing my Incredible S, but have a couple of questions first?
1. If I Root/Flash, can I go straight back to stock firmware without any Goldcard or anything?
2. What's the best Sense 3.0 Rom with good battery life?
Thanks guys
First: there is always a chance that something goes wrong. But as you read in different posts, that's rarely the case.
And second: there is no "best" Rom. Take a look at some Roms and decide for yourself. I would recommend Revolution HD But only because I haven't tried anything else yet. I assume that other ROM can be better or worse.

revolution hd isn't sense 3.0 like he asked though (although I definitely agree it is the best rom on here)

Hi.
Thanks for the reply, but I wasn't asking if anything went wrong, I was just asking if I'd be able to flash an RUU Over a custom ROM, or how I could go back to stock firmware from a custom ROM
Also, is this guide the one for windows that I could use to Root/Flash? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1137008
It is possible and easy to use sense 3.0 with revolution. Anyway, I don't know any reason why it wouldn't be possible to flash back to a stock Rom.
BTW: the link you posted is the same guide that worked for me.

One more thing, has anyone got the link to this Revolution Sense 3.0 ROM? Can't find it in the Android Development section.

only the lockscreen and weather, though you are still on sense2.1....
Hmm, what's the battery life like on Revolution?
I'm looking for Sense 3.0 and hopefully Improved or pretty much the same battery life I have on stock
(I'd prefer an actual Sense 3.0 ROM to get the Homescreen Transitions)

battery life is great....
it is the best rom on here imo.
like I said though it is sense2.1 (though I think sense 2.1 is better. smoother and less of a resource hog )
if it is imperative you have sense3, try virtuous unity
The battery life is at least the same. The developer says its better but I don't think so. Since you are going to root it anyway you can make use of some more tutorials on how to improve your battery. You will find them in the forum.

How hard would it be to port this to the Vivid after obtaining permission from the devs? I see Inquisition has been ported over and is looking quite good.
I know Sense 4 is causing issues but is this the only difficult problem to overcome? Or the RIL? Or are these combined?

I'm not so sure that's going to affect anything, since Sensation ports are already being handled with relative ease due to the Sense-based ROM -> Sense-based ROM idea. AOSP will help to port completely diverse images like CM9 and AOKP,
It has been mentioned before the sense 4 works perfectly except for ril. Asop will not help advance this since the framework is completely different. Our ril needs to be manual programmed into the smali code in framework.

They are all solid, it depends on what features, themes, etc you are looking for.
Rooted within 3 hours. Started on a different Rom but switched to vipers and never looked back. Incredibly close to stock with just some basic visual upgrades and a lot under the hood

I enjoy d3rpONE. Its a sense based rom with good a good looking theme, full functionality and lots of under the hood tweaks and fixes.
D3rped out Beastmode! HTC ONE!
d3rpROM, ViperROM, and TrickDroid are the best ones out there atm. I am currently running TrickDroid because it has tons of mods selectable in AROMA, it is quite nice. (you can find it in the international forum, it will give you the option to flash the Sprint version from the .zip)
Im running Viper's... Super Nice!

Have you tried RENOVATE? Using RENOVATE ROM, Wolfpack Kernel and OJM MODs.....ultimate device. Viper ROM is very nice....but Quadrants and Antutu scores suffer greatly. Renovate also includes PureXAUDIO , battery optimization, and it flys. It's mostly stock unless you choose their theme
I think he meant he rooted in 3 hours and not it took all of 3 hours.
It took me about 2 hours to root. It would have been faster but I used the HTC One (M7) All-In-One Toolkit V1.2, and while it got me started, it didn't work as advertised, left off steps, and then just stopped working. I had to do most of the work manually myself, but I did it.
theres an easy video to follow on youtube if you search "htc one root" look for the one posted by qbking77. it doesnt use the all in one toolkit so if something goes wrong its easier to figure out what you did wrong...
