I have asked about this on another forum without succes.
When opening an existing SMS thread/conversation, did you also get each time the 0,5~1sec "opening conversation" pop-up ?
(Even if the conversation history has only one or two SMS)
Didn't our phones supposed to be Ghz multi-core powered and... but has hard time displaying a few bubbles of text ?
Gmaps opens in a blink of an eye for example.
Thank you
I may be wrong, maybe this is because of SMS app operates only in .db files or something like that? I don't know it for sure but I have this on my phone too - no matter if I have two bubbles or hundrets of them - every time I open the conversation I have 0,5 sec "loading" pop-up.

Could it also be that the message app is always killed on exit? I am sure that when it is forced to stay open by some tweaks that it is instant?

Mine says opening conversation for about 0.5 seconds...it doesn't bother me though as other phones are pretty similar.
Ok thank you.
I don't know how it is on iOS but i don't remember this on WP.
I wonder why they didnt keep the whole thing in RAM

Facebook For Android is a piece of ****. I hate that people actually like it. The iPhone version is twenty times better....seems like the Android app was coded by an utter retard.
Flow is awesome: better even than iPhone official version of Facebook which - while good - suffers far more annoying bugs.
Through Flow you can set up push notifications easily through its gmail interception system. They work immediately and look brilliant. If you turn the popup on then when someone comments it shows their picture and what they said in a little window. You can scroll through multiple popups. notifies you for everything you have set up Facebook Emails to tell you about.
It supports loads of things that Facebook for Android doesn't support such as tagging, untagging, deleting posts, viewing 'likes', setting profile pictures and uploading whole albums from the gallery at full size. Not too keen on the icons on the main menu but the developer is working on it.
Also it doesn't keep you logged into chat 24/7 and drain your battery, nor does it link to the browser everytime you try and do anything. Only thing it doesn't support is inbox (owing to Facebook API I believe) but it does give push notifications of inbox messages and opens up the requisite page in the mobile site.
Flow for Facebook all the way - absolutely phenominal. Screw the official app.

Why would you want chat within the app? Its a piece of crap on iPhone too and drains battery like hell as it doesn't keep you logged in server side. You can download Beejive for Facebook for FREE. It not only keeps you logged in for as long as you choose to but its very reliable and uses c2dm so uses next to no battery.
Screw chat within the app.
For a great widget use Launcher Pro. Best Facebook widget I've seen.

IPhone Facebook app is a lot better than Facebook for Android but it still leaves a lot to be desired. Notifications are clunky and when you open up a push notification it doesn't refresh the notifications feed itself upon opening. Photo comments OFTEN don't show even though you've been sent a notification of one - often takes a number of restarts and refreshes to show them. Lots of other little bugs. Like I say, iPhone app IS better BUT just look on iTunes at reviews of the app to see that it is less than perfect!
Thanks, i just bought Flow for facebook and its great!
Flow is actually nice but the lack of a widget lets it down.
thanks everyone for responfding
i just installed flow and like it so far
gun bros
FLOW developer is working on a widget I believe.
The app now has an integrated quick reply feature so when your notification popup appears you can immediately respond to it without even leaving the screen you're in. Pretty brilliant I reckon and I've seen nothing like it on any other platform.
thanks for flow
Guys, any of you seeing the lag in auto rotate after the kitkat update? It's ridiculous to the point I've just turned it off. I'm talking like 5 secs for orientation to change. Plus when I open the messages app and the phones in portrait, it goes straight to landscape. -I'm thinking because at some point within the last 10 seconds the phone was oriented differently.
Is there a fix? Would rather not reset. ..
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
I'm not having any trouble with my auto-rotate, I just checked in like 8 apps just to make sure. But I am have a lag issue where when I am in the conversation list in messaging and open a conversation, it lags like 5 seconds until the text bubbles load.
Hmm Def strange. It's the worst for me in the messages app. I was looking on the t mobile forums and there are quite a few complaining about it there.
If it's not affecting everyone I'm optimistic that a reset might fix it...

Issue is definitely with the messages app.

Hi,
so, my LG Optimus 4X HD is about one and a half years old and it has gotten increasingly slow. To give you an idea of what I'm talking about: When I go back to my homescreen, it regularly takes about 30 seconds until I can do anything because all the apps (i.e. their symbols) on the screen disappear and my phone takes a while to "load" them again. Or when a call comes in it takes a few seconds too long until I see the screen where the number is displayed and where I can pick up and it can take a few more seconds until the name of the caller associated with that number is displayed. Once or twice I missed a call because the screen didn't pop up in time. Those are just examples, it's just in general annoingly slow.
I think the problem is/was RAM usage, it was constantly over 80%, even after uninstalling unnecessary apps, removing all widgets etc.. So I did a factory reset and installed only a handful of apps (basically only Whatsapp, Gmail, Audible, Kindle) and for now it is works how it is supposed to work but RAM usage is stil around 700-750MB. Should it be lower?
Thanks!

Thanks, I'll give it a try.
While I'm at work, I email back and forth to my girlfriend. She just switched from a Sprint S5 to an AT&T S5 and she's experienced this on both phones. After an email thread (conversation) gets a pretty good buildup of emails (today it happened in two different conversations - once after 20 emails and the second time after 40 emails), when she goes to hit reply, it will do one of two things...
1. if she has any apps open in the background, the screen will turn white and then it will switch to that app (or the last app she had open)
2. Or, if she doesn't have any recent apps, it will go to her home screen after the white screen.
Almost seems like that app is crashing, but there's no errors or anything like that stating that Gmail has stopped working or whatever. I tried searching XDA for a general Q&A help section or an app Q&A help section, but couldn't find either where I thought this would fit.
Hopefully someone is able to help out, or at least point me in the right direction. Thank you!
Bump... Anyone have any ideas? Anyone know a better place to ask? Thanks!

So I'm not sure how this started but I may have an idea. I used sms backup and restore to restore my texts to the G6. I was using Google Messages app for a couple days now until I discovered that there were themes available for the G6, so I uninstalled it. I started using the stock messaging app today and noticed I wasn't receiving any messages. So I open it up to see and now all it does it show a black screen. I fc'd it and cleared cache with no luck. I re-stalled Android Messages and they suddenly all popped up. I open the stock app and they all show up. So I uninstall the Android Messages app and I'm back where I started, with a black screen when opening the stock messaging app. Any ideas as to what is going on?

Thanks for the response. I believe it was because I had so many saved messages that it overwhelmed the phone lol. After it finally settled, it finally started working properly. Now if I can only find a good sms app...

With LG, whenever you backup/restore messages just wait for it as it might get stuck on a black screen or freeze when loading the app. I've realized this is completely normal and you kinda just have to give it time to catch up. I'm guessing in the period of time it's frozen while it's caching or something, but if you're restoring a few thousand messages it does take a bit to catch up; a few hundred messages typically come up almost instantly as I experienced this with my G2, G3, and V10. This behavior would suggest a poorly coded app in that the app isn't properly multi-threaded on that specific task - it could just be that the developers just overlooked it or something like that. On Samsung phones and other apps where that task is properly multi-threaded you can start using the app immediately but you notice conversations being updated and stuff like that.
As to a good messaging app.. It depends on what features you want. If you utilize Advanced Messaging, you're stuck with stock. If you don't mind losing Advanced Messaging then you can use practically whatever you want. A good option I used to use was Textra which offers an insane amount of custom options to make it look and feel the way you want. Android Messages is another good one, although pretty bare bones when it comes to customizations.

Yatta is a good messaging app totally customizable in every aspect.
