I am having an intermittent problem with my phone going from 4G LTE data to no data at all. When it loses the 4G LTE connection it does not connect to 4G, 3G, or E. I lose all data connections. I can still make a phone call. The only way i can fix it is go away from all of the LTE towers shut off the phone. this is the only way i can get the phone to reset. any help would be appreciated.
I'm kind of having the same problem. When 3G signal drops it doesn't reconnect to another tower automatically. After I refresh it with OpenSignalMaps, it reconnects to another tower but now there is no data (i.e. no EDGE). Wonder this is a common problem with the phone?
EDIT: On further research it appears that there is a possibility that this is a FastDormancy issue. Does your network support FastDormancy?

Sorry not sure what that is. The network is ATT.

dumb question.... but i was under the impression you could make a phone call and access the internet at the same time. Is this not true?
I was on the phone and tried to access the internet and was told NO. i am on a 3G connection.
Well ofcourse I do not know exactly what happened with you, but some providers have 'buggy' setups that can cause this. Most of those providers are working hard fixing that problem right now.
You can turn 3G off somewhere, I know I've seen it, but now I can't find it. Change the type of connection from UMTS to GPRS/GSM, there's a setting _somewhere_. If you do that, you will only get GPRS connectivity. Try calling and getting data at the same time then, if it works, your provider is not really ready for 3G yet.
Interesting. I am with ATT and 3G seems to be full power in all locations I am using it in.
I cant find where / how to turn 3G off and only use GPRS.
I can tell you that I have tested 3G with internet sharing to my notebook over bluetooth. I was able to talk with a BT headset, and access the internet with the laptop thru the phone, all at the same time. When connected the phone shows "H" or "3G". This is with a Kaiser but I would expect the same from a Tilt. AT&T in Southern Calif. I installed "Schen's 10 button comm manager" and with it's 3G button I can hold off 3G, then the display shows "E" and no simul connections are possible.
You can only use voice and data with HSDPA. GPRS/Edge does not allow this, they use the same band for data as the voice band. If you see the "H" icon they you are picking up the extra data bands needed for this to work. I have tested this will streaming live tv to my phone from my media center via webguide. Even with the "3G" icon i was not able to stream video and talk at the same time, the video would pause while i was on the phone then resume connection when i hung up or the "H" icon appeared.
I can confirm that I'm seeing this bug. There is no 3g towers in my area. I'll be showing the edge icon and be talking and when i try to load a web page, Opera will complain that a data connection does not exist.

It's not a bug... GPRS/Edge is not capable of simultaneous voice/data. You will not be able to do both until 3G is available in your area (though this doesn't explain the OP's issue).
Hi Guys
well did a search and couldn't find a topic about this, however if there is Sorry.
Anyways got my 02-Uk simplicity yesterday and set 3g and MMS up all fine, and was working fine, however today I came to work which is a bit out in the sticks so hard to get a 3g signal, and because of this i noticed I lost all signal.
after playing around I noticed that switiching it to "2g networks" i managed to get a full edge connection. My question is how come if it loses the 3g connection does it not revert back to a 2g network? I know there is a 2g connection beacuse if i do it manually it works. is there a way to do it automaticly?
also i do have data roaming connection active, and can post my APN details if anyone thinks that will help reslove the issue.
Thanks
matt
Brought mine in to t-mobile to ask the same question. they said just stick to 2g only when you're not in a known 3g area. They also recommended just turning data roaming off
I have the same problem with my Goophone Y6.
2 solutions I know:
1) Flightmode on/off
2) Reboot
This is very anoying, because the bug apperas again. One question: Do you lose signal when you turn your display off or after approximately 5 minutes?
Guys I have an odd problem.
Where I live, the signal on the HTC One switches erratically and constantly between H+, H and 3G. At every switch of course the data connection goes offline. It's driving me crazy.
Is there a way to force the phone to one of the three: 3G or H or H+?
Please see image 01.
I've tried going into *#*#4636#*#* but the choices baffle me (see image 02). I've tried a few of the available choices but it seems that 3G, H and H+ fall into the same category.
It's probably a dead end, I can't imagine what else to do ..... has anyone else had the same issue?
The 3G logo means it's on voice only, and H+/H means there's data incoming/outgoing. They're using the same radios and frequencies, it's more like an idle state when it shows 3G. 3G will still periodically go up to H+/H to check for any incoming data then goes back to sleep at 3G.
I have the same problem with my connexion. It is only stable when I have the "3G" symbol. I did not find a way to force "3G". It seems the switch to "H" is on demand...

It's normal behaviour, if you have a good H connection it will switch to this when there is data traffic but when there isn't it will switch between 3G and H
I have a sprint HTC one unlocked to run on T-mobile. I live in south west Washington, and I am having a very strange issue with my data. I select a data mode from the *#*#4636#*#* menu, and about half the time I connect to data. The other half of the time, it stays on UMTS, and no gsm logo pops up next to the signal. Other times, I will go to HSDPA, and have a very speedy data connection. Is there any way to disable UMTS? Could this be a rom issue, or a APN issue? I can almost always get an edge connection, but HSDPA is much better to use. I have done the R-UIM patch. I'll try to answer any questions, but I dont have tmobile service at my house, so I cant be sure

You can't "disable" UMTS. From my tests on this variant of the One, setting it to "GSM auto (PRL)" will get me on HSPA. It will keep me on HSPA until the network kicks me off. (Fast Dormancy, it puts you down to UMTS when you aren't actively using data to conserve energy.) [Maybe you can disable Fast Dormancy, who knows.]
Anyone else with a Nexus 6 on Verizon using a network extender? It works fine for voice. However, I cannot get a data connection through the extender. I assume its an APN issue. All other Verizon phones are getting data fine through the extender.
Ideas?
Thanks!
I don't think mine is connecting at all to the extender at work. There is no icon change.
It works for voice. I get the beeping before a call. But it is not utilizing the extender for data. Its killing me because I'm in a fringe area for coverage and its killing my battery.
I'm running cm12 and whenever I connect to a network extender I loose LTE after I connect back to the network directly. I have to backup, flash stock ROM, let the phone activate then restore my twrp backup. Major PITA...
Sorry for resurrecting this thread, but has anyone found any resolutions to this issue?
I'm right at the edge of 3 towers, without my extender, I can barely text... Don't get me started on MMS... I will often miss calls also.
According to the Network Signal Info app, I'm always connected to the extender, but I get very weak signal. I rarely get 3G, if I do, it's even more rare for me to get data despite it showing 3G.
Usually it's 1x that eventually connects where I get data.
Sure, I can use WiFi, but text and especially MMS are issues. Who knows if I'm missing calls also...
Hopefully the Verizon firmware/radio files will work better when Verizon eventually releases it?
Try setting your phone to 3g instead of lte. Should jump on the extender for data. On mine it won't switch automatically.

I did try that a few times, I haven't went too in depth with that. But if I recall correctly, changing that setting just left a "!" in the signal bars, no data. How's your signal strength on the extender?
It's half way up the triangle. Orange on the signal strength under battery. But it works.

That doesn't work for me. 3G is HSPA on the N6, not EvDo like the extender requires. My workaround is connecting at home via wifi, then switching data to 1X. That solves calling, data, and SMS/MMS issues.
From what I've read in other posts regarding Verizon extenders, they are only for basic text and calls, NOT Data. Call Verizon support to confirm if you want a definite answer though.

Not true. It does data fine at both 1x and EvDo 3g. As I said, problem is, the N6 doesn't appear to work with 3g EvDo data.

Correct. I've had my extender since 2011. Without data, MMS as well as certain other Verizon features would not function.
EV-DO working now!

I just flashed the Android 5.1 radio on my 5.0.2 ROM running Chroma.
I can confirm that EV-DO Rev. A works now on the Verizon Network Extender.
When I have the network mode set to Global or LTE it keeps falling off 3G. I've set the network mode to 3G and it has stuck for a solid 30 minutes now.
Hopefully the stock 5.1 ROM will fix the 3G issue in LTE or Global modes, so it doesn't try to connect to the weak outside signals. But at least we get EV-DO now instead of just 1x!

So are you on a VZW device?
My device says call cannot be completed when I #48 from my Google N6

Bought my N6 from Motorola around February.
Dialing #48 tells me I'm under network extender coverage.

hmm, thanks, no 3G option in my preferred network types on the stock rom.
I wonder if the network extenders actually validate the IMEI and that's why its not working. It worked on my old XT926.
I also have been fighting with this since getting my Nexus 6 last week...they say dial *48 and it will tell you if you are under extender coverage...which I am, yet a tier 4 tech tries to call me and it goes direct to vm.
I have changed units...still same....frustrated as heck.
I'm confused. If you have a network extender, you have Wi-Fi within the same range as the network extender. Why would you want to use 3G for data instead of Wi-Fi? Even the slowest Wi-Fi would be better than 3G data.
