Hello,
I'm a little lost, I looked at the forum to help me, but I still can not do.
I would like to run the extension ext4 on my s5839i
At first I tried ext4 with Razodroid (but if you have another ROM do not hesitate to tell me)
as I could not do it I turned on original firmware and flash a kernel that accept ext4. But no interesting results.
So, here I am really lost....
My questions:
- What recovery do you recommend?
- How to run my Ext4 on my ACE?
Thank you very much for your help, because after trying a lot of TUTO, kernel, ROM, script (cronmod) I still do not have conclusive results. :silly:

For me I use cwm5.It's up to you.
For EXT4 flash this Format-All-Ext4.zip by Rafael.Baugis.It will reformat all partitions to ext4 except sd-ext.Make sure that you have your custom rom in sdcard for reflashing and that you did a backup of your data.

Thanks

Hi all, I just find the mount point /data is in ext4, but /cache and /dbdata both still in rfs. Can I umount /cache and /dbdata manually, then run
mke2fs -t ext4 /dev/XXXX
then change fstab, and reboot the phone?
So, what's the point in avoid using any lagfix? As far as I know lagfix will do exactly what you stated in your post, use mke2fs to convert any partition to ext4.
If /cache and /dbdata were not in ext4 maybe the lagfix you used wasn't supossed to convert those.
I already applied lagfix, and it work good, I don't want to apply another lagfix just to fix those 2 mount point.... as I never smooth to get lagfix working..... doing it step by step myself sound better

Emm, have you tried speedmode or SO kernels? Essentially it is what you are asking
OK, so what kernel have you flashed?
First, dbdata contains important system data, mke2fs would clear it,
and you would end up with unusable system. And you have no guarantee
that init script of kernel you are using actually cares what's in fstab. It's
best to do this consistently - I sugest to go back to stock FS (rfs),
and then flash Voodoo Kernel. Except for Voodoo Sound and few tweaks,
it's like stock, without useless bloatware. Seems to be fastest according
to Quadrant, too.

Just do some search, that is another lagfix, can I safely apply multiple lagfix to single device? I will search for the lagfix I used when I at home
HI, the lagfix I applied is ZSJP3 , the kernel is I9000ZSJP3-zImage
To be safe, you should remove all previous lagfix first. Afterwards, flash SpeedMod Kernel via Odin. You can find detailed instructions in the speedmod thread. To put it simply, download the Odin file, get Odin off www.samfirmware.com, put the file you downloaded into "phone". Leave everything else untouched and flash. Afterwards, go into recovery to activate the Lagfix options.

Thanks, but how to remove previous lagfix?
This script will convert your system & data partition to ext 4 filesystem
only use it when your ROM / KERNEL supports ext4 filesystem ! Read description carefully !
example for use :
use it when you try out MCR ROM FR19 (you have to convert to ext3 before) or CM (will auto convert to ext3 when installing) and want to revert back to your older backup (FR18 for example)
restoring your backup in CWM recovery will restore your data but will not convert your filesystem back to ext4, that´s why i made this zip.
so, if you plan reverting to your backup (which supports ext4), simply apply this zip in recovery & restore your backup afterwards ;
back_to_ext4
------------------------------------------------------
This script will convert your system & data partition to ext 3 filesystem
(courtesy of Paul / MoDaCo)
If you have been using a EXT4 ROM and you want to restore a stock ROM that only has EXT3 support, it's a bit of a faff. Introducing BackToEXT3.
This ClockworkMod update zip simply converts your /system and /data partitions back to EXT3. It wipes them both in the process, so you need to have an existing backup / ROM to restore to.

example for use :
use it if you are running an ext4 ROM at the moment and want to revert to your stock ROM or CM backup. (which both only support ext3 at the moment)

Anyone know if the CM7 (offical) kernel has support for EXT4? Then we could use this to convert from EXT3 to EXT4, right?

I used this backtoext3 in order to return to my nandroid stock rom v10d backup.
Restore completed, but then on boot, it stucks on the 2nd LG logo (one with blue statusbar underneath it).
Am I missing a step here?

I'm working on a universalEXT4converter. It will convert your filesystem to ext4 and edit your ramdisk (works on every rom). Currently not working and I can't bugfix it (because erm something went wrong hehe ).
But will be ready soon and p999 support will follow too

Well I'm running the latest Slick2x-G which is CM7 and I've tried a new kernel (Morfic's EXT4 Trinity Test Kernel) from OP of this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1067939
Converted to EXT4 with CM7 and it seems to be running ok, not having any problems, battery life not too bad either.
One thing I was wondering though was I was to wipe and put a different CM7 based rom on without the above kernel would it automatically convert back to EXT3?

Hi,
Sorry guys need to ask. I have checked out the forums and i think this hasnt been asked before. Again sincere apologies if it has.
I am using an incredible s, just got it s-off and rooted and was about to flash Android Revolution HD from my sd card.
As part of the process I had to flash 4XT recovery which I have.
I just need to check, whenever I go into recovery is says the following :
"You currently have some EXT3 partitions ->If you wipe/format. I will use EXT3 You can however explicitly wipe EXT4 by visiting the "ext" <-> ext menu
If you are on an EXT4 Rom, you may want to conver the partitions to EXT4. Open the ext3 <-> ext4 menu to do that"
I know I will have to flash a wipe file before flashing the new rom.
Do I need to do anything to address the details above or can I just contiune as normal?
Sorry my first time tinkering with an Android phone.
THanks
You should wipe and convert all partitions to EXT4 before flashing the new ROM.

Thanks, the wipe will be done through flashing the file "Android_Revolution_HD_Super_Wipe" am I corrent?
Also, how do I convert the partitions? I read some threads where people bricked their phones by playing around with the Partitions on the SD card. Not sure if this would mess me up as well
Any insight?
You don't have to wipe or convert! Just flash super_wipe.zip you mentioned, it will do everything for you. It cannot be easier
Thanks, it worked perfectly, running Android Revolution HS with the sense 3.0 all in one patch

Hi i'm new here and i have some question need you guys help.
1)I'm now on stock rom and kernel with ext3 file.Do i need to do anything if i want to load new rom or kernel with ext4 from cwm 5.0.2.0?
2)If my current rom or kernel is ext4 and i want to load back to ext3,what should i do?
Sorry for my bad english.
You don't need to do anything to switch to EXT4, ROMs convert on install. Take a backup of your stock setup, you can restore that to get back to EXT3 as you're using CWM v5.
Thanks you Rusty!
So the newest cwm will automatically convert it to ext4 right?!Except for ext3,i need to convert it using backtoext3 from Paul or restore back to stock.
No.
A ROMs updater-script will convert to EXT4 if it needs it. CWM v5 will convert back to EXT3 when restoring a backup of an EXT3 ROM.
Thanks again Rusty!
I get the picture now!

CronMod requires your rom to have init.d support. Stock roms doesn't have init.d enabled by default. But you can flash any custom kernels like cf root to enable init.d support. Once you have enabled init.d support, you can then install CronMod. Here is the link to cf root kernel,
CF-Root adaptation for Gingerbread
Hope I Helped

You have an ext partition on the SD Card right? If you already have an ext partition, then make sure that you have set the right permission to 40int2ext. The right permission is rwx-rx-x. If you don't have one, take a backup of the SD Card and then go to CWM> Advanced> Partition SD Card> Size (1 GB anymore than that and the system will lag)> Swap (0MB) and finally wait for it to say "Partitioning Done !!!". If you already have 40int2ext file on init.d folder, then just reboot. If you have deleted it, then mount /system from CWM and install it again. That should do it. Do post the result. Hope I Helped
