safestrap 3.0 - Motorola Droid Bionic

I have a question on safe strap 3 . since I have been out of the loop for a while and do not have permission to post in the safestrap thread. My question is does the size of the partition matter when you make a rom slot does it affect performance if you only make it 1 gig?

It affects the allocation for apps

It doesn't affect performance -- but you are limiting the space where you can install applications to use while running that ROM slot. I usually made it 1GB, then tested it out. If I liked it (I love Icarus as I need working BT for call audio) then I re-did it with the larger size (3GB).

G1 struggling - memory and other

so i got cyanogen's 4.2.12.2 loaded. apps on SD.
the phone is kinda slow, but the biggest concern is that it stalls/freezes for few seconds and stops responding, then works just fine. it happens a lot. it makes my overall usage experience a sluggish one. all i have left in internal memory is 27 MB ! why? shouldn't apps be on sd. is that cache that being used up every time an app is running in the background? not really sure i understand whats happening. i know i have over 100 apps on there, but i thought they should be running off of my SD.
i'm growing tired of the phone. is it possible to speed it up? can i get some memory back without sacrificing too many apps?
Try going to the android market and downloading the "overclock widget", and also snag the free task manager and then add the widget to your phones desktop so that way you can kill the apps and set the clock with over clock.
That should help your problem broski.
Cyanogenmod is a bloated pig.
Look in the dev section for enomther's "expansion pack". It basically adds on some extra features to a more-or-less stock rom. Performance is phenomenal.
my concern is the internal phone storage. i don't understand why it's dropping. i see people reporting 40 and 50 MB for internal storage while having 100+ apps.
how is that possible? what am i doing wrong.
by the way, my current internal memory size (based on taskpanel widget) is 17 MB!!!
Try a different rom....i suggest WG Build Y 2.6 or Super D, they are fast and stable.

Super D is based off of dwang/Cyan...HTCClay is the orig person that started Super-D but he stopped development and gave it to BB.
Enom's is really good, its stock and doesnt have a bunch of hacks and its still faster than cyan.Expsetup is a good addon from the expansion pack.

I would tell this guy to re-partition, wipe everything under wipe, and then flash
overall, i like cyanogen's mods. i'd like to keep it if i could.
i installed PeakMemUsage and took a look at whats using up most of the memory
- Android system/checkin service 30 MB
- Quick search box/home/google 26 MB
- better keyboard 14 MB
- weather widgets 17 MB
- My Account 15 MB
- Dialer 16 MB
is this normal?

then go with SuperD - superficially it looks the same - all the same additions from eclair, spare parts etc, but a hell of a lot faster.

Here you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=613809
I'm pretty sure Super D just uses the 10mb ram hack and compcache - no linux swap support, but I've you've already got a partition on your card (I've got 64mb myself) it won't hold it up - it just won't be used. you can keep your partition setup, just wipe everything (I use amon ra recovery - can't remember if wipe ext and cache is on cyan's build) and flash the update. I'm on an HTC magic 32B, so haven't needed to go down the SPL/radio update because stock can cope with it, but if you're on a G1 then you'll need to do it *very carefully*. if you don't follow the inx you can brick your phone.
if you want to keep your apps use backup for root users - it can be a bit iffy, so i tend to just redownload everything from the market - your downloads are remembered, so it only takes a few minutes.
i stayed with cyan's roms for ages - very user friendly and stable, but it's worth experimenting to see which you like best. if you've got a class 6 card then check out some of the eclair roms for the live wallpaper stuff, superD,m dwang and WG for speed and stability and espresso for prettiness.
Which is faster? Super D or xROM (Eclair)?

should I switch to CM7?

guys i bought a o2x recently.
I am pretty pissed off with the LG ui...not at all smooth
on stock 2.3.4
i didnt get reboots or anything like that but the feel after using O2X is not similar to the likes of HTC(my former android device) and galaxy S
I have used CM7 on HTC desire before and it was smooth as ****.but there were a few things lacking such as internet pass throught, video playback was better on stock, also mass storage transfer speed was better on stock as compared to CM7.some games didnt play as smooth on cm7 as on stockand the stock look of sense UI
I want to be on a ROM which is fast, stable(dont care bout LG UI...its already crap)and good battery life.
so should I switch to CM7? or use one of the Modaco ROMS(which are stock with few tweaks).I heard Modaco are stable and gets less app crashes than other ROMS.
what are the possible drawbacks of using CM7 over stock???if there arent any, then I m switching to CM7
CM is a good rom with good performance and reasonable battery life, especially with a custom kernel. It's really smooth, fast and not in the slightest as buggy as LG Stock. The only drawback so far is the cam quality I think, because the Stock LG cam is better. But, there are mods in the dev section which can improve the cam quality. As for all crashes, only heavy 3d games might crash, but not very often.
thnx..so wht u recommend?nightly or stable??

Can I ask something on this?
After trying a few ROMs this weekend, I decided to stick to Temasek's latest one at least until next weekend (not so much time on workdays).
My question is: when I installed that .zip, didn't I also change the kernel? Or the kernel is another story?
Thanks in advance.

Yes you did change the kernel. Every rom comes with a stock kernel, so everytime you flash a new rom you automatically flash a new stock kernel on your phone. Therefore you need to flash a custom kernel after you flash a custom rom. If you would do it the other way around you'll erase the previous kernel flash.

No 3D heavy games crashes here...and lg stock camera was ported in CM7, so no problem.
There are customized stock ROM's which work great - try Flexbomb. Don't use stock launcher, there are plenty to choose from and all popular ones are better and smoother. Like LauncherPro or ADW, GO Launcher... No bugs, everything smooth and can be customized as you prefer.
Then you can apply some patches like modded camera with higher bitrate/less compression, change kernel, remove OnScreenPhone and other apps, ..
Anyway, CM9 is here

You can actually flash CM7 or CM9 without a physical SD. Technically.
You only need to switch the sdcard/emmc mount points so the internal memory could be recognized as /sdcard and the external SD as /mnt/emmc. There's a flashable zip around on XDA that does that.
So, basically you need to 1. wipe /data and /cache. 2. Install CM7 Kang. 3. Install the mentioned zip. 4. Reboot. A very good step 0 would be backup xD.
Cheers!

Hey, have a look in the cm10 dev-thread! It has been discussed for very long now. Due to performance reasons pawitp swapped the layout of the two NAND-chips in our SGS. (System partition: 1,8GB - Data-partition: 488MB)
This was pretty clever, because people with an old SGS (slower oneNAND) have a much better performance of cm10 now, so i think it never gets reverted!
If you want the old partition layout back, look for other cm10 roms out there. There are some with the old /datadata-trick that worked pretty well in cm9.
If you want to stay at cm10 and use pawitp's new partition layout for a faster experience, you should move large apps to SD-Card
Hope this helped, Cheers

Go to Settings/Apps, there you can move apps to SD, if the developer of the app enabled it. Just click on a fat app and look for the "move to SD" button or similar
There is also an app at the playstore that's called App2SD. It lets you move your apps in a more comfortable way. :good:

ICS ROMS

So ICS ROM been out for a while for our Ace, and I need to think from moving from GB to ICS, and i'm thinking if its really worth it?
I'm using a SGA with stocklitle 7.1 and BatteryExtender v1.2 and my battery lasts for like 1.5days sending sms to girlfriend and some friends plus some calls(rarely using internet). I still charge the phone every night.
I would like some sincere opinions if i should go to ICS, considerating I have a class 4 SD Card of 16gb and 116+ apps installed(using Link2SD).
SO I have some questions:
-How is battery life on ICS?
-Will the phone be slower?
-Is it true that on ICS apps use 100% SDcard and no more internal memory?
-Whats the most stable ICS ROM? (Like StockLitle is the most GB stable)
Thanks! Its really important!
Stay on GB, the ace wasn't meant to run smooth ICS in the first place. No ICS rom will provide the stability or battery life of stock based GB.
You can always make a nandroid backup, try ICS and just see if it is good for your daily usag. No amount of opinions beats personal experience when choosing a rom.

Yes, with cwm, and a nandroid backup will keep all links made with link2sd and all information in the partition.

CM9.1 RC4.1 by Wayland_ACE is brilliant, stable and fully functional. The only lag that occurs is after start up.
Battery life is great compared to other ICS ROMs (though I cannot compare to GB since its been months since I've used it).
Phone speed is improved.
Apps will not move 100% to the SD card. And never will.
It is however missing quicksearchbox.apk (downloadable) so persistent search will not work and the Google Search app is missing.
There is no equaliser. Certain versions of DSP Manager are reported to work though.
LWPs do not currently work as livewallpaperpicker.apk is missing

The lag after startup is always there for CM7 roms too, and apps will not move 100% to SD card because if it moves the apps will take long time to start up.
DSP manager works good but Wayland didnt include it !
LWPs too, PM wayland he will do the required !

Storage Space - Internal Limitation

I have just got my hands on a Galaxy Ace S5830 It will be my spare /temporary phone for a while so I thought I would have a play with it So far it's a great little phone.
It was on the standard rom but I am greedy and I now have ROOT + CWM 5.0.2.6. and then upgraded to Kitkat For All [CWM.5.x] CM 11, Omni & Omega by Salim PS earlier today and it's much nicer than the stock stuff.
The only problem I am having is the totally crap internal storage limitation Is there anything that can be done to increase it? Once I install a few apps I am totally out of internal storage space Which is no fun at all...
I have had a look around but i really don't know what I am looking for Can you help...

You need a rom that uses a Kernel with swap support and you need to partition your sd with CWM (advanced settings). No cm11 kernel has swap support and link2sd don't work either. Some Cm 10.1 and below do. I just suggested to another member who was after a good rom to use this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2599760 Use S2 touchwizz style with cronmod. Partition your sd first. Instructions are probably on here for that but i just followed this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_U_Sp_BtzrM
I think all the reading I've recently done regarding up/downgrading the ace's software has fried my brain, So I had a couple of days off and just enjoyed using a new phone.
Anyway I can't believe how simple that was Thank you very much, I put in an 8GB SD and set my SD ext to 1GB and all is well, Running nicely too with that rom.
